Jeffrey R. Hasara, 16, of 3725 Monarch Ave, Marion, died Monday, August 16, 2010 in his home with his family around him. Services: 7:00 p.m. Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4300 Trailridge Rd SE, where visitation will be at 3:30 p.m. Burial: Orem City Cemetery in Orem, Utah. Bishop Kent Schaerr will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his parents, Mark and Valerie Hasara, his sister, Rachel L. Hasara, his brothers, Ryan A. Hasara, of Mt. Vernon, Washington, John R. Hasara and Travis R. Hasara both of Marion, his grandparents, Robert and Vickie Hasara of Provo, Utah and Nathan and Marilyn Hill of Sandy, Utah.

Jeffrey was born November 24, 1993 in Okinawa, Japan, the son of Mark and Valerie Hill Hasara. He was a sophomore at Linn-Mar High School. He loved long boarding, surfing by the ocean and being with his friends. Jeffrey was tender hearted and was more interested in helping his friends than doing his school work. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he was active in his church and a strong believer in his God. Jeffrey was also active in Boy Scouts. His favorite thing was spending time with his family. He was a great friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

Phil E. Holt
Born in Malden, Massachusetts on January 12, 1934
Departed on December 19, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Phil E. Holt, 76, of 2142 Chandler Street SW, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10 Am Thursday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Private entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife Debbra, two sons Nat Evan Holt and Paul Steven Holt, a daughter in law Diane Dibrell, and two grandchildren Kasey Carolyn Holt and Nicholas Hunter Holt all of California. He was preceded in death by his parents Abraham and Carolyn Holt.

Phil was born January 12, 1934 in Malden, Massachusetts. He married Debbra Galland on August 23, 1981 in Los Angeles, California. Phil was an electrical engineer for The Aerospace Corporation in California. He had been a member of the Rotary Club, and enjoyed sailing, scuba diving, and running.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

LaDonie Marie Helm
Born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on November 17, 1926
Departed on December 2, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

LaDonie Marie Helm, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, December 02, 2010 at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Celebration of Life: 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Community of Christ Church by Brenda Mitchell and David Loy. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church.

Survivors include her children, Jeanne (Allen) Baker and Russell Reinhold, all of Cedar Rapids, Richard Reinhold of Apache Junction, AZ, and Randy (Lynn) Reinhold of Iowa City; a step-daughter, Shirlee Coy of Meeker, CO; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty-eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Francis Helm, parents, Vern and Patricia Walker, and grandparents, Wilbur and Donie Tharp.

LaDonie was born November 17, 1926 in Sapulpa, OK to Vern and Patricia Walker. After age two she was raised by her grandparents. She married Richard Harry Reinhold on May 13, 1948 in Tulsa, OK. They were later divorced. She married Howard Francis Helm on December 31, 1977 in Las Vegas, NV. He died in 2009. LaDonie was in the cadet nursing program where she received her RN license. She was a registered nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital and a nursing instructor at Kirkwood Community College. LaDonie was the Executive Director of Professional Medical Coverage an in home nursing service for two years prior to her retirement in 1979.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 – 18th Avenue, Hiawatha, IA 52233.

John E. Hobel Jr.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 7, 1943
Departed on November 29, 2010. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

Service: Friday, December 3, 2010
Cemetery: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery
John E. Hobel, Jr., 67, of Marion, passed away at his home on Monday, November 29, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Pastor Ken Koske will officiate. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 PM Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Marion; three sons Ronnie Hobel of Marion, Ernie (Denise) Hobel of Cedar Rapids, and Tony (Kelli) Hobel of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren Madalyn, Jason, Rachel, and Joey; his father John Hobel, Sr; one brother Frank (Norma) Hobel; two nieces Lisa Moon and Jennifer Lein; and a nephew Rob Hobel.

He was preceded in death by his mother Wilma and brother Dennis.

John was born March 7, 1943 in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Wilma (Gage) Hobel. He married Betty Pauley on June 25, 1971 in Marion. John was a 1961 graduate of Jefferson High school and a veteran of the United States Marines. He was employed by Cryovac and Cedar Rapids Toyota. John was a member of the Twin Pines Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching the Dallas Cowboys, working on his motorcycles and helping his father with his racecar. John was a fan of anything with wheels.

Wilma Lucille Hobel
Born in Mount Vernon, Iowa on May 8, 1922
Departed on November 24, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Wilma Lucille Hobel of Cedar Rapids, IA went to be with her lord on Nov. 24th, 2010. Wilma was born May 8th, 1922, to Frank C. & Addie (Butler) Gage, of Mt. Vernon, IA. She married John E. Hobel, Sr. on Feb. 8th, 1942, she and John have three wonderful sons, John E. Jr., Dennis J. & Frank C. Hobel. She has 6 grand children, and 8 great grand children.

Wilma enjoyed her life, family and being her husband's #1 race car fan. She has always been proud of being a good homemaker and raising her three sons. Wilma and John were very happily married for 68 years.

Per Wilma's request there will be no service. She has been laid to rest at Wilcox Cemetery in Viola, IA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice.

Jean Hauter
Born in Winfield, Iowa on July 24, 1918
Departed on November 23, 2010. Resided in Washington, Iowa.

Jean Pierre Hauter, 92, of Washington, IA died November 23, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Home. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 10, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church, Marion, Iowa, 802 12th Street. A luncheon will be served immediately following the memorial service at the church and family is inviting everyone stay for a time to visit.

Surviving are his children Walter Hauter and wife Margaret of Pacifica, CA, Bea Miller and husband Ken of Le Claire, IA, Jeanette Minor and husband Marvin of Urbandale, IA, and John Hauter and wife Kia of Kenosha, WI; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and his sister Gwen Converse of Ft. Wayne, IN.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marie and his parents.

Jean Pierre Hauter was born July 24, 1918 in Winfield, IA the son of Lewis W. and Marjorie (Gurney) Hauter. He enlisted in the United States Army and served during WWII as a Chaplain holding the rank of captain. He was united in marriage to Marie E. Smith on August 25, 1943 in Evanston, IL. He was a Presbyterian Minister serving the communities of Cedar Rapids, IA, Perry, IA, Marion, IA, Kenosha, WI, and Ames, IA. He was a member of Racine, WI Astronomical Society, Lions Club International, Kiwanis International, Masonic Lodge, and Rotary International.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Marion, Iowa and Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Lois Irene Hill
Born in Dealware Co. on March 24, 1923
Departed on November 12, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Lois Irene Benson Hill, 87, died on November 12, 2010, at the Woodlands in the Meth Wick Community. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors. Rev. John Albertson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 PM on Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Surviving to honor her memory are her husband, Elroy; her children, Steven (Christine) Hill of Lakeville, MN; Debora (Craig) Aldrich of Cedar Rapids; Susan (Robin) Engelbart of Marion; a brother, Robert Benson of Wellington, FL; eight grandchildren; Ryan Dagon, Kelley Blair, Brian Hill, Peter Skow, Alicia Ruhkala, Jeffrey Kiley, Michelle Vaughan, Joshua Engelbart, and twenty great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jack Benson; a sister, Mildred Boe; and a great-grandchild, Oliver Hill.

Lois Irene Hill was born March 24, 1923, in rural Delaware County, the daughter of John and Agnes (Gienapp) Benson. After attending Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, Lois attended Coe College, followed by nursing school in Chicago. She entered the Army Nursing Corps in 1945 and served in Okinawa at an Army Field Combat Hospital. She was united in marriage to Elroy Hill on July 20, 1947, in Cedar Rapids.

Lois devoted her life to her husband, her children and their families. She will be remembered for her faith, her nurturing and especially her brownies.

Memorial donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church in Marion or the Linn County Genealogical Society.
