Brandon J. Hacker, 22, of Anita, formerly of Cedar Rapids died Sunday near Atlantic, the result of an auto accident. Services at 3:00 PM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Bill Randles will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Jeff and Stacey of Anita, his mother and step-father, Denise and Tim Yuengel of Belleville, Illinois, three sisters, Holly (Joe) Nassif and Kira Hacker all of Cedar Rapids and JoAnn Hacker of Anita; three brothers, Jesse of Cedar Rapids, Jeffery and Aidan both of Anita and a step- brother, Brandon Jayne of Belle Plaine. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Sondra Cantrell of Lisbon, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, an uncle and an aunt.
Brandon was born on Nov. 25, 1986 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Jeffery and Denise Cantrell Hacker. Brandon worked for R& R Insulation in Manning. He was a member of NORML and a volunteer for Hospice. Brandon was an artist as well as a very talented and avid guitar player. He enjoyed photography, the beauty of nature and time spent with his many many friends and beloved family.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Brandon’s name.

Fern Hatfield
Born in Linn County, Iowa on June 11, 1914
Departed on October 18, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Service: Thursday, October 22, 2009

Fern M. Hatfield, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died October 18, 2009 following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Ellis Park Church of God. Friends may call from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her niece Rita Moore of Vinton, nephews Dwight Sanders of Vinton and Doyle Sanders of Johnston; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, sister Culah, brother Fay, and an infant sister.
Fern Mildred Hatfield was born June 11, 1914 in Linn County the daughter of Clarence and Cora (McVay) Evens. She was married to Charles Hatfield in 1940, he preceded her in death in 1988. She was employed as an Industrial Property Inspector by the United States Government for many years. Aunt Fern’s greatest joy was time spent with her family at gatherings, and vacations. She enjoyed league bowling, going out with family and friends which she was still enjoying just prior to her death. She will forever be remembered for being full of life up until her passing. She was a loving aunt to many, and friend who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Fern’s honor may be made to the Oak Grove Church Youth Center.

Donna Lynn Huff
Born in Louisville, KY on November 11, 1959
Departed on December 24, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Donna L. Huff, 51, of 3227 Soutter Ave SE, died Friday, December 24, 2010 following a short illness. Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 28, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories beginning at 2 PM with funeral services at 3 PM. The Rev. Sonda Kirsteatter will officiate. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Survivors include her mother Marie; her cousin and very best friend Susan Shain from Smithfield, KY; a half brother, Woody Huff of Louisville, KY; and several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. She also leaves behind her loving pets, Izzy and Buddy.
She was preceded in death by her father, Woody Huff, a half brother, Eddie, and all of her grandparents.
Donna was born on November 11, 1959 in Louisville, KY to Woodrow W. “Woody” and Annetta Marie Huff. She later relocated to Cedar Rapids in 1966 and graduated from Washington High School. Donna went on to become a CNA and worked for Elder Care for 11 years in Louisville before moving back to Iowa in 2002. Donna was a very special daughter and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Leona Alice Smothers, 101, a resident of Heritage Nursing & Rehab, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday January 5, 2008. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. William B. Harnish and the Rev. Linda Bibb. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be today at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel 1221 First Ave S.W. from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Survivors include her two daughters, Alice Barta and husband Robert L. of Cedar Rapids, and Laura Ruble of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Steve, Karen, Sue, Kathy, Scott, Loretta, Edward and Cynthia, 21 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.
Her husband Joseph Smothers, two sons, Joe Smothers Jr. and Edward Smothers, a son in law, Charles Ruble, a great granddaughter, Kaitlin and two grandsons, Joe and Richard preceded her in death.
Leona was born July 29, 1906 in Galveston, Texas. She married Joseph Smothers on May 19, 1924 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Leona was a waitress for the Killian's Tea Room for 25 years before retiring. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and the Jolly 60's Senior Citizen's Club, Caleb Friendship Club at Good News Baptist Church, Friendship Fellowship Senior Citizens Club at Trinity United Methodist Church and Witwer Senior Citizen's Club. She volunteered at Mercy Medical Center, St. Luke's Hospital and Council of Aging.

Robert O. Bradley, 85, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died there Sunday, January 6, 2008 following a long illness. Services with military honors will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. Ken Glandorf, chaplain at Mercy Medical Center officiating. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 10 AM on Thursday.
Survivors include his children, Bobbi Bob Colby and Kathy Bradley all of Cedar Rapids, Scott Diane Bradley of Florida, Rod Bradley of Chicago, and Kurt Marlene Bradley of Tennessee, 13 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal, on January 20, 2003.
Robert was born June 22, 1922 in Lamont, Iowa. He was raised by his mother, Hattie Wolfe. On December 31, 1945 he was united in marriage to Opal A. Parkis, who he cherished for 62 years. The couple raised their five children in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Robert was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving with the 113th Red Horse Calvary as a Captain. Next to his family, his service to his country was one of his greatest sources of pride. Among his decorations were the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, and three Purple Hearts. Robert was Knighted by the government of Belgium for his role in liberating their country. He was a founding partner of Engineering Associates until he retired in 1983. He served on the board of the Jayne Boyd Community Center, was a member of the Masons, the El Kahir Shrine Temple, the VFW, the American Legion, and the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
The children of Robert would like to extend special thanks to Jim Hynes, a former business partner and friend that demonstrated a committed and faithful friendship to their father; Kent Walton and the staff at Hiawatha Care Center for all the kindness and care give to Robert and the family; and to our 29th Street gang for the good memories.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital.

Faith E. Burris, 82, of 104 Wilson Ct. in Anamosa, died Monday, January 7, 2008, in the Jones County Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, following a short illness. Memorial services will be held at 1 PM Thursday in the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Rev. Bryan Crousore of First Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include two sons David Larson and wife Patti of Anamosa, and Steve Bammert of Mason City, Iowa, a daughter in law Sue Larson of Anamosa, two step daughters Connie McAnally of Ridgecrest, California, and Faira Sens and special friend David of Palisades, Colorado, three step sons Greg Burris and wife Marla of Marion, Iowa, David Burris and wife Kathy of Kansas City, Missouri, and Bob Burris and wife Betty of Manchester, Iowa, twenty two grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Phillip Larson, a great granddaughter Madison Larson Tallman, and a brother Carlton Latta.
Faith was born September 30, 1925 in Anamosa to Claude and Mertie Smith Latta. She graduated from Anamosa High School in 1943. She married Donald E. “Bunny” Burris on June 13, 1970 in Iowa City, Iowa. He died February 17, 2007. She worked in production for Wilson and Company for 25 years retiring in 1983. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Anamosa. Faith and Bunny spent many years traveling in their motor home to Texas, and Florida.
Faith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

David L. Packingham I, 61, of Cedar Rapids died Monday, January 7, 2008 following a brief illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday from 4 PM to 9 PM. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate.
Surviving are two daughters, Tamara S. Lardie Dennis of Boise, Idaho and Shirley J. Packingham of Marion; a son, David L. Packingham II Coree of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren, Trey, Caleb, Kaytlyn, Tanner, Brittany, Brandy, Ashley, David III, Lilly, and Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a twin brother.
David was born January 18, 1946 in Cedar Rapids the son of Earl and Ruth Johnson Packingham. David was a Solid Waste Employee for the City of Cedar Rapids for 36 years. David enjoyed bowling, was an avid sports fan, enjoyed softball and loved his Double Maduro’s.

Phyllis Almeda Carter, 86, of 327 Nassau St. SE, died Monday, January 7, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a heart attack. Services with Eastern Star Services at 3 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. David Hohmann of First Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include her husband Robert M. Carter, two step-sons Richard Carter and wife Mary of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Barry Carter and wife Nicole of Cedar Rapids, brother Lloyd Andre of Anamosa, two grandchildren Kevin Carter of Cedar Rapids, and Sarah Carter of West Des Moines, great grandson Mickey Carter of West Des Moines, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Donald, two sister in laws, and two nephews.
Phyllis was born October 31, 1921 in Cedar county Iowa to Leo and LaVena Walker Andre. Phyllis and Robert M. Carter were married June 9, 1984 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She retired from Square D Corporation after 28 years. She was a 60 year member of the Cedar Chapter Order of Eastern Star #184. and served as Worthy Matron in 1984. She was a member of the Sisterhood of P.E.O. chapter I.F., and a member of First Congregation United Church of Christ of Cedar Rapids.
The Lord was Phyllis’ Shepherd. She shall not want. He maketh her to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth her beside the still waters. He leadeth Phyllis in the path of righteousness for his name sake. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow her all the days of her life. Phyllis shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen.
Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Laurine Kathryn Taylor, 90, of 3031 Canton Drive SE in Cedar Rapids died Sunday, January 6, 2008 at her home following a sudden decline in her health during a determined battle with cancer. Graveside Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 14th at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Osterhaus of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church will officiate. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry of Salt Lake City, Utah and Tom of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George N. Taylor, in 2003.
Laurine was born to John and Clara Badding in Urbana, Iowa on February 21, 1917. After graduating from St. Patrick’s High School and Cedar Rapids Business College, she was employed at Hawkeye Lumber Company until her marriage on August 16, 1941. She moved to her home on Canton Drive at that time and became a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. In the intervening years she raised her family and was a dedicated homemaker while greatly enjoying the nearby wildlife and outdoors in this hilly, wooded part of town. She was an active member and served as an officer in the Marion Chapter of TOPS since joining the group in 1970. Friends and family will remember her love of flower gardening, careful craftsmanship, and fascinating collection of owl figurines. Those experiencing her loss will miss her inspirational attitude in meeting life’s challenges while being a supportative companion and loving mother.
Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous of Iowa.

Kathryn Ilien Metzger Bowen, 87, of Bickford Cottage in Marion died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Bickford Cottage following a brief illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday from 1PM to 4PM.
Surviving are a daughter, Sylvia Copler Daryl of Marion; a sister, Leona Lange of McGregor; a brother, John Metzger of Shellsburg; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Metzger of Greenwood, SC and Mable Bowen of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold in 1999; a sister, Louise Lockwood; and two brothers, Dwayne Metzger and Glenn Metzger.
Kathryn was born December 5, 1920 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Harry and Sylvia Petrick Metzger. She married Harold E. Bowen on August 16, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. Kathryn worked at Quaker Oats after high school. After her marriage, she and her husband farmed in the area until 1994. She was a 4-H Garden Club leader for several years. Kathryn was a member of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Farm Bureau.
Kathryn was a very special woman who will be missed dearly. Those experiencing her loss will remember her smile and sense of humor. Kathryn enjoyed quilting, scrapbooking, jigsaw puzzles, card games, gardening and her family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established.
