Paul Ryan Kenney, 42, died unexpectedly on Friday Oct. 2, 2009 in Santa Fe, NM. Funeral Mass by All Saints Catholic Church held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St Matthew Catholic Church by Rev. David O'Connor. Inurnment at 11:00 AM on Friday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. Friends may also call after 9:30 AM on Thursday at the Church.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Thomas James Kenney, on November 14th, 2008.

Paul will be dearly missed by his mother, Mary Ellen Kenney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and his seven siblings: CAPT Patricia Kenney, USN (Ret.) and Christina Joy, Bethesda, MD; Jeanne and Matthew Brandes, Molly and Edward Kempf, Thomas and Robin Kenney, Jack and Margaret Kenney, Eileen and Tony Foxhoven, all of Cedar Rapids, IA and Anne and Jeff Smart, Oak Park, IL.

His large and loving family includes nieces and nephews: Kate Beihl(Aden), Martha Farrell (Ronan), Laura Ebinger (Tom), Sarah Colony (Drew), Dan Kempf, Marcus and Joe Kenney, John, Michele and James Kenney, Tom Hayes, Michael, Grace and Liam Smart, Matt, Kristin and Greg Foxhoven, Lincoln and Archer Beihl; special friends, Lisa and Jason Hingst, Stephen Plank, Tim Miller, Jody Kurtt and his beloved uncles, aunts and cousins.

Paul was born August 28, 1967 in Rockford, Illinois to Thomas and Mary Ellen Kenney. He was a graduate of Regis High School and the University of Iowa. After graduation Paul moved to Los Angeles and worked as an accountant in the film and television industry, Paul's work took him to China, St. Martin, New York, San Francisco, Minneapolis, and his last film site, Santa Fe, NM. Paul saw a lot of the world and made friends wherever he went. Although he traveled extensively, Paul always considered Cedar Rapids home. He regularly returned and maintained close relationships with his family and friends here. Paul leaves many dear friends who will remember him as a kind man, a true friend and a real gentleman.

Our love for you “ Buzz” will never end. We will always be with you, arms around you, and forever the eight of us.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Community Health Free Clinic, All Saints Church, or the Cedar Rapids Public Library.

Norma J. Kirkley
Born in Latimer, Iowa on August 26, 1932
Departed on September 30, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Norma J. Kirkley, 78, of 7396 Council Street, N.E., Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday September 30, 2009 after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear palsy. Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Marion, by the Rev. Mike Morgan. Visitation is today from 4-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Mound Cemetery, Watkins. Military Rites: Hanford Post # 5.

Immediate survivors include her son, Thomas E. Kirkley of Vinton and a daughter, Carol J. Kirkley of Cedar Rapids, her brother-in-law, Richard A. Knock, and two nieces, Roxanne Stone and Leslie A. Knock, all of Cedar Falls.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Harry E. and Christina (Madsen) Hampel, and her sister, Doris A. (Hampel) Knock.

Norma was born August 26, 1931, in Latimer, Iowa the daughter of Harry E. and Christina Hampel. She was united in marriage to William L. Kirkley on July 3, 1953 on Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, Louisiana. They later divorced.

Norma graduated as class valedictorian from Allison High School in 1949. She then served in the United States Navel Reserves from November 9, 1949 until March 13, 1951. She served in the United States Air Force form March 14, 1951 until July 3, 1953. She then served in the United States Army Reserves from October 3, 1973 until October 10, 1975. She was employed by the Department of Defense, Defense Logistics Agency (Defense Contract Management Agency), for Thirty Two years, retiring in 1993 as the Small Business Specialist. She was active professionally serving as Treasurer to North Central Small Business Council form 1989-1993. Norma found her work with the Department of Defense to be important and fulfilling.

Norma was an avid sports enthusiast. She followed the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Chicago Bears with great enthusiasm. She was an avid golfer and bowler as well. She was a life time member of the American Legion, Hanford Post #5 holding various offices including Adjutant and Commander. She was particularly active in the legion baseball and was instrumental in bringing the regional and national baseball tournaments to Cedar Rapids.

Norma enjoyed making a difference in people’s lives and had any number of special relationships throughout her life. Among the special relationships that were treasured by her throughout her life, were the longstanding relationship that she had with the Banks, Fosdick, Huggard, Munson, Stansberry, Gillian, Gouchee and Lucas families. Norma felt that it was important to contribute to the Well-being of others and to the community as a whole. She will be dearly missed by her family, her friends, and the many individuals and organizations she helped.

Charles E. Krejci
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on September 5, 1909
Departed on September 21, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Charles E. Krejci passed away peacefully on September 21, 2009 at 100 years of age, probably still reminiscing about his treasured childhood in Czech Village. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Bob Voels of Trinity United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday.

In later years he was part of the core group that was responsible for holding on to the Czech Village area as a bit of important history of culture, music, customs, and language.

He was born to Anton “Tony” and Bessie Klekar Krejci on September 5, 1909. He was the third of five children, Wesley Krejci and Lucille Bloom being his older siblings and Estella Baxa, Mildred and Edwin Krejci to follow. All have since passed away.

Charles was widowed in 2002 when his wife of 69 years passed away. Martha was Czech also and was a lost treasure. David, his son, died in September, 2008 following a long illness. Charles is survived by his daughter, Ann Krejci Downs, ; daughter-in-law, Diane Krejci; grandson, Douglas (Becky) Krejci; granddaughter, Heidi (Brian) Peck; and great granddaughter, Madison who gave him three years of joy.

Although Charlie is primarily remembered as “the banker” he was involved and interested in many things. His banking years began at age 16 years as a messenger at Peoples Savings Bank. At that time messenger service was on foot and later by bicycle through muddy lanes and roads of old Cedar Rapids. He graduated from the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Through the years the city grew, the bank changed names a few times and Charles worked through the banks to retire as Sr. Vice President and Head Cashier after 47 years. The bank was then Norwest and now, Wells Fargo.

Aside from banking, Charles had a Czech band and played the accordion and fiddle.
It was at one Sunday afternoon dance he met his wife, Martha. They married December 24, 1933 at the height of the Great Depression. Son David was born September 3, 1939 and they lost an infant daughter, Kathryn, in 1941 with Ann being born in June, 1943.

As young marrieds, they found fellowship and friends of a lifetime at Trinity Methodist Church where he was in the choir, and was the treasurer of Benevolence as well as for smaller fellowship groups. The children’s school events were fully supported be it music, drama, or fieldtrips. Charles was fully involved with Boy Scouts of America from den master to troup master. He was involved in many other groups as board member, chair, or treasurer. He was past president of Linn County Bankers Association and the Iowa Federation of County Bankers. He organized the local chapter of National Association of Bank Auditors. He was a past member of the Chamber of Commerce, Cedar Rapids Community Chest Review Committee, the Knights of Pythias, the Loyal Order of Moose, the Elks Club, P.T.A., the West Side Civic Club, and the W.S.C.C Committee that created Morgan Creek Park. Charles was past Chairman of Linn County March of Dimes, the predecessor of Mother’s March, championing birth defects. He was past Chancellor Commander of Macabees and past charter member of the Exchange Club. Charles was the past treasurer of the Cedar Rapids Community School District and Linn County Red Cross. He was awarded “Boss of the Year” by the Secretaries Association. He was instrumental in organizing the Czech Village Association and became the treasurer of the Czech Heritage Foundation.

He was a self taught musician; playing the piano and button accordion and organized his own band, “Chic”. He performed in radio at WSUI, Iowa City; KRNT in Muscatine, and WJAM, WKAA, and KWCR in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed travel, fishing, hunting and woodworking and was fond of flowers and trees. He crafted all sorts of items from little cars and boats when he was young to painting birdhouses, crosses, and stamping notes, and holiday decorations as recently as this year. He was often heard to say “Never enough time”.

In lieu of flowers, a tree may be planted or donations made to the Czech National Museum and Library Building Fund, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Dale E. Kisner
Born in Oelwein, Iowa on June 14, 1937
Departed on September 5, 2009. Resided in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Dale E. Kisner, 72, of Hiawatha, Ia., died Sept. 5th in St. Luke’s Hospital following a short illness. There will be no visitation. Services will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha, at 10 AM Wednesday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years Evelyn, two daughters Laurie Burnside of Marion, Ia., Connie (Wendell) Stepanek of Cedar Rapids, Ia., one granddaughter Kimberly Burnside of Marion, Ia., three brothers John Kisner, Floyd Kisner, Lawrence Kisner, and three sisters, Beverly Dvorak, Gina Bergman, and Dorothy Lehmkuhl. One special pet Max. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mable and Peter, and one sister Shirley.

Dale was born June 14th, 1937, in Oelwein, Ia. the son of Peter and Mable Kisner. He graduated from Loras College. He was employed by Cargill in Cedar Rapids for 36 years as a logistic manager for the East and West soybean plants in Cedar Rapids. He served in the United States Army for 4 years. He was very proud to have supported his country. He also was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic church. Dale enjoyed fishing, Iowa Hawkeye’s, St. Louis Cardinals, and going to the casinos to pass the time away. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all the hearts that he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the St. Luke’s Hospice Foundation.

Betty Ann Krug
Born in Keystone, Iowa on December 9, 1928
Departed on August 6, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Betty Ann Krug, 80, of 4773 Dewees Ct, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, August 6, 2009, in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Private services will be held. Rev. Daniel Krueger of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Surviving to honor her memory are her husband of 62 years George, two daughters, Pamm (Richard) Ruhberg of Cedar Rapids, and Sheryl (Dennis) Dunston of Woodland, California, two sons George Krug Jr. her devoted and loving caregiver of Cedar Rapids, and Kevin (Barbara) Krug of Swisher, Iowa, four grandchildren, Chad Ruhberg, Danielle (Kent) Perleberg, Sean Dunston, and Jennifer (Tom) Markt, and her aunt Pearl Lehr of Shellsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and his wife Marvin and Lorraine Knipp, and a grandson Trent Van Lengen.

Betty was born December 9, 1928 in Keystone Iowa to Louis and Lillian Thede Knipp. She married George A. Krug on June 1, 1947 at East Dubuque, Iowa. She was a bookkeeper at Borden’s Dairy and at Krug Carb.

Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial fund has been established in care of Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
