Gerald W. 'Gerry' McCarville, 68, of Viola, died Monday, July 7, 2003, in the University Of Iowa Hospital following a courageous battle with Leukemia. Services at 10:30 AM Thursday in St. Isidore Catholic Church in Springville. Burial in Springville cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday with a wake service beginning at 6:30 PM.
Survivors include his wife Sherry, daughter Stacy Shanks and husband Jeremiah of Decorah, Iowa, son Wayne McCarville and wife Jill of Kendallville, Iowa, step son Scott Walton and wife Teresa of Anamosa, two step daughters Meg Busch and husband Tom of Marion, and Lori Tracy and husband Mike of Seattle, Washington, three brothers Harold and wife Dorothy of Des Moines, Irvin and wife Marian of Marion, and Charley and wife Ardith of Brownsboro, Texas, two grandchildren Jennifer McCarville and Missy Mayer, two step grandchildren Andrew and Matthew Walton, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gerald was born August 29, 1934 in Howard County, Iowa to Raphael and Hazel Eldridge McCarville. After graduation from Cresco high School he farmed with his parents until he was called to serve in the US Army in April of 1957. After serving two years with the 47th Infantry in Fort Lewis Washington, he returned home and upon the retirement of his parents assumed management of the McCarville home farm, which was settled in 1869 by his great-grandparents Phillip and Elizabeth Woods McCarville.
In 1962 he married Marian Aegler and they had a son Wayne and daughter Stacy. Gerald and Marian were divorced in 1991. On December 28, 1993 he married Sharon 'Sherry' Largent Walton at Cresco, Iowa, and they moved from the McCarville farm to Viola. He then was employed in the mailroom at MCI in Cedar Rapids, and later worked as a substitute rural mail carrier in nearby Springville.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Isidore Catholic Church in Springville.

Mildred R. O'Brine
Born in Sheridan, Wyoming on February 6, 1919
Departed on April 12, 2009. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

Mildred R. O'Brine, 90, of 2255 Edwin Dr. Marion died Sunday April 12, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a short illness. Memorial services at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Grace Episcopal Church where friends may call from 10:00 AM until service time. Mildred’s body was donated to the University of Iowa for medical research. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Robert “Larry" (Val) of Cedar Rapids, and James (Anthony) of Marion and a daughter, Rebecca (Walter) Cheney of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Jeremy (Terri), John (Denise Pinchotti), Kerry, Heidi (Scott), Lacie (Shaun), Lindsey, Daniel, and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother.

Mildred was born on Feb. 6, 1919 in Sheridan, Wyoming, the daughter of Walter and Anna Fait Roe. She married Robert L. O’Brine on Nov. 14, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. He died in 1980. Mildred was a homemaker. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, New Encounters, Shrine Auxiliary, St. Ann’s Guild and Mercy Fitness.
Memorial donations may be given to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or Grace Episcopal Church in Mildred’s name.

Carol J. Myers
Born in Fairfield, Iowa on June 19, 1933
Departed on November 23, 2003. Resided in Marion, IA.

Carol J. Myers, 70, of 2616 Fields Dr., Marion, died Sunday, November 23, 2003, in Mercy Medical Center following a long courageous battle with cancer. Services at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Ed Powers of the Asbury United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include three sons Larry and wife Jo of Cedar Rapids, Gary and wife Jan of Ely, and Ronald and wife Nancy of Cedar Rapids, a daughter Teresa Reedich and husband Michael of Cedar Rapids, two brothers Dale McIntire and wife Mary Jane of Florida, and Steve McIntire and wife Becky of Des Moines, four sisters Arlene Haifley and husband Robert of Fairfield, Iowa, Pam Cubbage and husband James of Libertyville, Iowa, Marilyn Kane of Fairfield, Iowa, and Mary Helen Vorwerk and husband Jim of Burlington, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, a sister-in-law Marilyn McIntire of Des Moines, and a brother in law Doug Dickey of Packwood, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Harold Jr. a sister Janet Dickey, and a grandchild.
Carol was born June 19, 1933 in Fairfield, Iowa to Harold and Elsie Irene Olson McIntire. She married Jack E. Myers on June 20, 1950 in Fairfield. He died October 9, 2001. Carol worked at Square D as a machinist for 25 years retiring in 1992. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the Twirling Travelers, and the Good Sam Club. She enjoyed Dancing, camping, and greatly enjoyed time with her family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Asbury United Methodist Church.

Elizabeth A. ''Birdie'' Mengler
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA. on June 10, 1934
Departed on December 17, 2003. Resided in Hiawatha, IA.

Elizabeth A. 'Birdie' Mengler 69, of 1255 Emmons Street, Hiawatha, lost her battle with cancer Wednesday, December 17, 2003, in Mercy Medical Center. Services at 3 PM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Saturday.
Survivors include her husband Evan, two daughters Terri Mengler of Cedar Rapids, Julie Flitsch, husband Mark, and twin grandsons Jaxon and Jacob Flitsch of Alburnett. Sister Dorothy Ferguson and husband David of Lisbon. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Birdie was born June 10, 1934 in Cedar Rapids to James and Marguerite Bradley. She married her loving husband Evan Mengler on April 3, 1954 in Cedar Rapids. She was a secretary for American Family Insurance for 18 years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and taking care of her twin grandsons.
Birdie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established.

Gary A. Morehouse

Gary A.Morehouse, 58, of 1620 Hidden Hollow Lane NW died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City from complications following hip surgery. Services at 11 AM on Sat. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories where there will also be military rites. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Friday and at the Chapel after 10 AM on Sat.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, a son, Richard and his wife, Tonya of Marion, a daughter, Stephanie Pinter and her husband, Don of Muscatine, his mother, Mary Wenger of Bradenton, FL., two brothers, Terry of St. Petersburg, FL. and Greg of Bradenton, FL. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Sydney, his father and mother in law, George and Lorraine Prastka, a brother in law, Mark Prastka all of Cedar Rapids and two grand dogs, Dually and Roxy. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard and grandfather, Alden.
Gary was born on Jan. 16, 1945 in Cedar Rapids. He married Patricia J. Prastka on Sept. 10, 1976 in Cedar Rapids. Gary was the owner and operator of Portraits Unlimited for 18 years. He served in the Air Force. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Gary's name. Military rites by American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.

Frederick Melvin Melton
Born in Centerville, IA. on June 20, 1929
Departed on January 12, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Frederick Melvin Melton, 74, of 1618 Hollywood Blvd. NE died Monday Jan. 12, 2004 at Living Center West after a short illness. Services at 3 PM on Sat. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Per Fred's request, the casket will be closed at all times. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Fred was born on June 20, 1929 in Centerville, the son of Albert and Carrie Irene Parcel. He graduated form Centerville High School in 1947. On July 6, 1948 he joined the US Army and served in the Japanese Occupation as a military policeman and administrative clerk. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Japanese Occupation Metal, National Defense Service Medal and an Honorable Discharge on June 10, 1952 after serving 47 months.
He was employed at Collins Radio, retiring in Dec. 31, 1985. He married Carolyn Ann Harvard in 1957 in Cedar Rapids. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Dr. Jon Melton and his wife Donna of Mechanicsburg, PA., Brian Melton of Cedar Rapids, a brother, Robert Melton and a sister, Mary Louise Doggett of Numa, Iowa. He is also survived by a grandson, Daniel Frederick Melton of Mechanicsburg, PA. and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was a good husband, father and grandpa. He had a beautiful smile and great sense of humor. He was an avid photographer, operating his own dark room and developed many black and white photos. He was member of Crescent Lodge and Amber Grotto.
Fred trusted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. One of Fred's favorite bible verses was, John 14:6 'Jesus said; I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me'.

Evelyn M. Nye
Born in Rural Linn County, Iowa on February 13, 1920
Departed on September 8, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Evelyn M. Nye, 83, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, passed away there Monday, September 8, 2003, following a short illness. Services at 1PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Pastor Clinton Jeffers will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after noon on Thursday.
Survivors include two daughters Carol Lehman and husband Robert of Swisher, and Norma Spangler and husband Jack of New Castle, Indiana, a son Keith Nye and wife Ingrid of Farmington, New York, a sister Elsie Main of Coggon, a brother Bernard Evers of rural Coggon, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Merle Evers, and two sisters Esther Murphy and Eleanor Price.
Evelyn was born February 13, 1920 in Rural Linn County to Clarence and Lois Fay Evers. She graduated from Coggan High School and Cedar Falls Teachers College. She taught at Fairview School in Linn County. She married George W. Nye on June 8, 1941 in the Spring Grove Methodist Church, North Linn County. He died in 1984. She was a member of Hillside Wesleyan Church and a former member of the Ellis Park Church of God.
A memorial fund has been established.
