Rebecca R. “Becky" Nelson, 75, of 1441 Miami Dr. NE went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday November 19, 2010 at Mercy Medial Center. Memorial services at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry, and two daughters, Chris Nelson of Cedar Rapids and Geri (John) Kearney of Ottumwa. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Thomas, Sarah and Rose. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Becky was born on June 18, 1935 in Farnhamville, Iowa the daughter of Walter and Ruth Knott Heddrich. She graduated from Coe College and taught elementary school for several years. She married Jerry D. Nelson on September 30, 1961 in Buckeye. Becky was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for several local companies.
She was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir as well as being a member of several prayer groups both in Iowa and Florida where she and Jerry spent their winters.
Becky was a wonderful wife, mother and especially enjoyed the special relationship she had with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
A memorial fund has been established in Becky’s name

Gordon Eugene Mullin, 75, of Potosi, WI, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died July 10, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held 1 PM Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Deacon Laverne Flagle of All Saint's Catholic Church will officiate. Friends may call after 12:00 Noon on Saturday at the chapel. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Military Rites performed by Swisher American Legion.

Survivors include daughters Cherel Bryant, Cynthia Mullin and Kenneth of Ely, and Carol Sims and Gary of FL; his brother Louis McEnroe; sister Barbara Rowley; and grandchildren Randee and Tamee Hoose, Helmut Hoch, Jack Sims and Abby Lu Ralston.

preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, sister Dixie Waters, and his longtime companion LaVonne Brown.

Gordon Eugene Mullin was born October 1, 1931 in Hardy, Iowa the son of Ivan and Luella Gunder Mullin-Wagner. He was united in marriage to Joyce Dochterman. He was employed as a carpenter. Member of the Carpenters Local Union # 308. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be missed.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Larry R. Moe
Born in Taopi, MN. on August 8, 1944
Departed on July 16, 2007. Resided in Marion, IA.

Larry R. Moe, 62, of 1805 Valleyview Dr. in Marion died Monday July 16, 2007 at St. Lukes Hospital of esophageal cancer. Services at 11 AM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 10 AM on Thursday. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Carlene, a daughter, Alison and a son, Aaron both of Marion, a brother, Karl and a sister, Betty Ann Kempee both of Minnesota. He is also survived by one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law, Kay Moe and a brother-in-law, Karl Kempee.
Larry was born on Aug. 8, 1944 in Taopi, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Sigrid Wangensteen Moe. He married Carlene J. Johnson on July 3, 1965 in Grand Forks, ND. Larry was a test technician at Rockwell Collins for 37 years, retiring in 2004. He was a member of local amateur radio and telegraph clubs. He did volunteer work at the North Freedom Train Museum, was a member of the Sons of Norway and proudly served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society in Larry's name.

Dale Grant Newport
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on March 5, 1924
Departed on October 10, 2006. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Dale Grant Newport, 82, of Cedar Rapids died in his home after a short illness on October 10, 2006. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Parker Knoll will officiate. Burial at the Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4-8pm Thursday. Dale is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and children Elaine Lanz of Cedar Rapids, Barbara Hoffmeier of Northville, Michigan, Paul Close of Iowa City, and Loris Arnold of Tallahassee, Florida. He leaves behind eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Dale was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
Dale was born on March 5, 1924 in Cedar Rapids to Leonard G. and Edith Reichwein Newport. On July 14, 1948 he married Dorothy Hemmer Close in Cedar Rapids and they raised four children together. Dale's greatest passion was gardening and he loved it so much that he never retired from growing produce. Following in his grandparents' footsteps, he was a well known truck-farmer and sold produce at the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Farmers' Markets. Dale was often featured in news articles related to his contributions to the markets in both cities. He will be remembered for his work ethic, integrity, and willingness to help others.

Russell Thayer Owens
Born in Leon, Iowa on February 25, 1932
Departed on April 16, 2006. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Russell Thayer "Russ" Owens, 74, of 741 30th Street SE, died at home, Sunday, April 16, 2006 after an extended illness. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O'Connor. Burial: Mt. Calvary cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Patricia; five sons, Russell "Dan" and Denise Owens of Iowa City, Mark and Karen Owens, Phillip and Lori Owens, Patrick and Jennifer Owens, and Anthony Owens, all of Cedar Rapids; five daughters, Theresa and Robert McGlashing, and Deanna Owens, all of Cedar Rapids, Lisa and Brian Eastwood of Solon, Regina and Joe Smith of Davenport, and Mary and Richard Wells of Center Point; two sisters, Marie and George Jones of Clinton, and Kay and Terry Craig of Indianapolis, IN; a half brother, Larry Owens of Leon; a half sister, Eleanor and Jerry Gage of Osceola; a sister-in-law, Connie Owens of Seattle, WA; a brother-in-law, Clate Vanderpool of Des Moines; 31 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; a brother; and a half sister.

Russ was born February 25, 1932 in Leon to Russell and Louise Toney Owens. He graduated from high school in KoKura, Japan, returning to Iowa with his mother and siblings. He enlisted in the Army and went to Korea where he spent all of 1952 on the 38th Parallel with the 3rd Infantry Division. After returning home he married Patricia Klopp "Patty Cake" on September 24, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. He worked as a conductor and engineer on the Rock Island Railroad, the Iowa Northern and Iowa Interstate for 32 years, retiring in 1992 because of health. He was a member of the VFW #788, the United Transportation Union, and All Saints Catholic Church. Russ was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Mercy for the wonderful care Russ received.

Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Ralph H. Roberts
Born in Yankton, South Dakota on April 23, 1911
Departed on July 27, 2004. Resided in Waterloo, IA.

Ralph H. Roberts, 93, a resident of Mercy Hallmar, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center, following a short illness. Services at 10:30 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Pastor Roger White of the Gladbrook United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after 10 AM on Friday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include a son John and wife Pat of Cedar Rapids, a daughter Becky Fish and husband Charles of Gladbrook, Iowa, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a sister Susan Roberts Hammett.
Ralph was born April 23, 1911 in Yankton, South Dakota to Judson Amos and Viola Griffiths Roberts. He married Mary Marquis on April 10, 1942 in Bethany, Missouri. Ralph was the bandleader of "Howdy Roberts and WMT Rangers, " and was an announcer for the Musical Clock retiring in 1974 after over forty years on the radio.
He graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and was a WW II US Army Veteran.

Elfrieda E. Meek
Born in Benton County, IA on August 26, 1916
Departed on July 17, 2007. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Elfrieda E. Meek, 90, went home to be with her Lord Jesus, Tuesday, July 17, 2007. She suffered three strokes in 14 months, the last one causing paralysis and heart failure. A special thank you to St. Luke's Hospice Unit for making her final days peaceful and to Dr. Timothy Quinn for his wonderful care and compassion.

Elfrieda was born on a farm in Benton County on August 26, 1916 to Anna and Albert Schultz who had come to this country from Germany. She was married to Joseph E. Meek, December 7, 1935. They were married for 58 years until Joseph passed into his Heavenly Home in 1993. Elfrieda managed school cafeterias in Cedar Rapids for 33 ? years, and had a heart for all the children who touched her life during those years. Elfrieda and Joe enjoyed trips to Minnesota and Canada, and all those tasty walleye. She loved working in the yard, caring for her flowers, feeding and watching the birds; cardinals being her favorite. She enjoyed crocheting, and teaching grandchildren how to cook. Elfrieda was a great fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, and was very excited when they would make it to the Rose Bowl.

She is survived by one daughter, JoAn Dostal David of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Shelley Brisson of Seattle, WA and Teresa Sutton of Houston, TX. Also, six great grandchildren; Angela Mosshamer Steve of Chicago, IL, Joseph Arne Leanne of Oak Creek, WI, Jennifer Brisson of Seattle, WA, Travis Sutton, stationed with the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, WA, Victoria Sutton, attending Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX, and Megan Brisson of Seattle, WA. Also two great great grandchildren, Benjamin David Mosshamer of Chicago, IL and Isabella Leigh Arne of Oak Creek, WI.

Elfrieda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers and one sister.

She was blessed with the friendship of caring neighbors. Our special thanks to Greta Jost and her husband Jim who is with the Lord, and Les and Alma Happel for all you did to help Elfrieda and Joe when it was needed. Also, love and thanks to all the nieces, nephews and other relatives who have been part of her life. She always appreciated the visits and times of sharing. Thanks to Connie Schultz and Tom Jost for bringing Mom pleasure through your e-mails.

Funeral Services will be at 3:00 P.M. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1363 1st Ave SW, with burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday from 4PM to 7PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Luke's or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
