Michael Firburn O'Donoghue
Born in Sioux City, IA on December 12, 1963
Departed on July 24, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Michael F. O’Donoghue, 75, of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away on July 24, 2010 at his home following complications of lung cancer.

Survivors include his daughter Nicole and husband, Barry Carter of Cedar Rapids; and one grandson, Kevin. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann, parents Archibald and Helen O’Donoghue, and his sister Janet Yancey.

Michael was born December 5, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Archibald and Helen (Daugherty) O’Donoghue. On July 28, 1956, he married Margaret Ann Marshall in Sioux City. Ann passed away on May 28, 2009. Mike graduated high school from Shattuck School in Faribault, MN. He attended Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1960 with a B.S.M.E. Degree.

Michael was employed by Collins Radio from 1960 to 1971. In 1972 he purchased Toman Flowers and Gifts which he owned and operated till 1978. The same year he purchased Atlas Fire Safety Co. which he operated until his retirement in 1994.

He was a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, Theta Tau Engineering Fraternity, Cedar Rapids Country Club, University Athletic Club in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids Art Museum and Cedar Rapids Garden Club. Michael enjoyed building his model railroad and sharing it with his family and friends.

Memorials may be sent to Shattuck School, Faribault, MN or Cedar Rapids Hospice of Mercy.

Inurnment will be at a later date at Memorial Gardens cemetery in Sioux City, IA.

Michelle A. Niles
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on August 16, 1958
Departed on March 26, 2007. Resided in Center Point, IA.

Michelle A. Niles, 48, of 4195 Carole Ct, Center Point, died Monday March 26, 2007 from an automobile accident. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Urbana. Burial: Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. David Ambrosy will officiate.

Survivors include her husband John, two daughters, Kelsey Niles, attending University of Northern Iowa, and Lindsey Niles at home, her parents, Dewain and Donna Fluckiger of Marion, father in law, Harvey Niles of Marion, a brother, Dan Fluckiger Julie of Stratford, and a sister, Jill Jeff Hopkins of Bettendorf and sister in law, Debbie Jerry Ozburn of Marion. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Kim Andrew, Kari, Paige, Spencer and Carter, and a great nephew, Jacob and great niece, Megan.

She was preceded in death by her mother in law, Jean Niles, and an infant brother George Fluckiger and grandparents.

Michelle was born August 16, 1958 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Dewain and Donna Doyle Fluckiger. She married John Niles on October 12, 1985 in Marion. Michelle was a Dental Lab Technician for Tyler, Berkhof & Link Dental Office in Cedar Rapids for 28 years. She graduated from Marion High School in 1977 and Kirkwood Community College in 1979. She enjoyed gardening and attending the girls school activities. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and friend. She will be greatly missed by all. A memorial fund has been established in lieu of flowers.

Vernon L. Meisinger
Born in Madison, Nebraska on February 8, 1933
Departed on February 13, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Vernon L. “Mike" Meisinger, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday February 13, 2009 after a five year battle with cancer. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O’Connor. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m., where a vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; three sons, Michael of Parker, Colorado, Robert (Julie) of Cedar Rapids, Kenneth (Kathy) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and one daughter, Susan (John) Morgan of Parker, Colorado; two brothers, Willard and Earl of Norfolk, Nebraska; and six grandchildren, Patrick, Megan, Matthew, Alison, Kayla, and Charlie. His parents, a sister, LaVerna, and two brothers, LeRoy and Arlan, preceded him in death.
Mike was born February 8, 1933 to Ernest and Emma Meisinger in Madison, Nebraska. He married Rosemary Bender, November 21, 1956 in Norfolk, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict and graduated from Iowa State University in 1960 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in sales management for 28 years with FMC Link-Belt and for 7 years with Highway Equipment Company.
Mike was an avid reader and golfer, who enjoyed exchanging friendly banter with his fellow retirees over breakfast at Hy-Vee and Perkins. Mike will be missed immensely and will be remembered most for his great sense of humor, his caring ways, and his dedication to family and friends.

Maxine M. McLaughlin
Born in Centerville, Iowa on September 23, 1913
Departed on April 3, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Maxine M. McLaughlin, 95, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community, died there Friday, April 3, 2009, following a short illness. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday in Central Church of Christ with Dr. Terry Seufferlein officiating. Private inurnment in Oakwood cemetery, Monticello, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Monday at the Church. Arrangements are with Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Surviving is a son John of Cedar Rapids, daughter in law Gena McLaughlin, 2 granddaughters, Victoria (Chad) Chihak of Denver, Iowa, and Meredith (Matthew) Finnie of Boston, Massachusetts, 2 great grandsons Riley Chihak and Bradley Chihak of Denver, Iowa, 2 sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Casady of Cedar Rapids, and Myrna McLaughlin of Monticello, and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families, all of whom were dear to Maxine. They will long remember her for the work she did on family history, which blended a far-flung family of many members into a close-knit one, although separated geographically.

Born the daughter of Samuel Stuart and Ella Kenyon Menefee on September 23, 1913 in Centerville, Iowa, she was married to Howard A. McLaughlin in Ottumwa on December 20, 1937. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1993.

She was a graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1931 and the University of Iowa in 1935. Following graduation from the University, she was employed as a physician’s assistant in Ottumwa until her marriage.

Following the war, Maxine and Howard moved from Los Angeles to Omaha, where Howard was a realtor and where their son was born in 1948. They moved to Cedar Rapids in December 1954, where Howard was sales manager with the Skogman Company. Maxine was manager of the Coe College Bookstore from 1964 to 1971.

As a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Maxine was active, having served as Sunday school superintendent, and held several offices in the Presbyterian Women’s Association. She became a trustee, and later an Elder as well as Clerk of Session at the church. She was a member and past president of the Cedar Rapids College Club, the Cedar Rapids-Marion Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae Association, the Wednesday Shakespeare Club, and Chapter JT of PEO.

Her hobbies included writing, reading, golfing, oil painting, needlework, playing bridge, and enjoying the fellowship of her many friends.

Maxine’s family wishes to thank Dr. Mary Ann Nelson, Hospice of Mercy, and the staff at the Meth-Wick Community for their Loving Care of Maxine.

Memorial donations may be made to the Meth-Wick Foundation, Hospice of Mercy, or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Lawrence "Larry" H. Muskat

Lawrence “Larry" H. Muskat, 77, of 518 31st St SE, died Wednesday June 10, 2009 in the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Deacon Mike Klappholz will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call on Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home today from 4-8 p.m. where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Survivors include his wife Deb, his daughter, Kelly Harold of New Carlisle, Ohio, his siblings, Sister Mary Monica Muskat of Campbellsport, Wisconsin, Raymond (Beverly) Muskat of Duluth, Minnesota, Rose (Dave) Marcou of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Zita (Ed) Pretasky of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Kathline (Cal) Grise of Columbia Fall, Montana, his in laws, Donald (Arlene) Graver of Dubuque, Iowa, Sherry Wilson of Wisconsin and Diane Henthorne of Marion. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, a brother, Joseph Muskat and a sister-in-law, Charlotte De Kayer preceded him in death.

Larry was born March 21, 1932 in Cross Plains, Wisconsin, the son of Roman and Ida Brunner Muskat. He married Deborah Graver on March 11, 1961 in Marion, Iowa. Larry was owner and operator of Muskat Barber Shop for 52 years. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Fleet Reserve Association Branch #216 and a volunteer for ARC. He enjoyed fishing, yard work and birds. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and Navy Reserve for 20 years.

Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous, All Saints Catholic Church or Hospice of Mercy.

Florence S. Miller

Florence S. Miller of Cedar Rapids, Iowa died Saturday, June 13, 2009.

Memorial service: 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Marilyn Buchanan of Buffalo United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids officiating. A memorial gathering will be held for one hour prior to services at the chapel on Tuesday. Inurnment will be in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Barry L. of Thornton, Colorado, Mark A. of Phoenix, Arizona and Randy C. of Hot Springs, Arkansas. A sister Ruth Ann Krebs of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother, Robert L. Stout of West Chester, Iowa three grandchildren, Jason C. Miller of Phoenix, Arizona, Amanda M. Gates of Japan and David Walsh of Danville, IL; three great grandchildren, Trinity Mikaula Gates & Kylie Elizabeth Gates & Gabriella Gates in Japan.

Florence was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and one grandchild, Angela M. Miller.

Florence began life on March 28, 1921 when she was born on a farm south of Westchester, Iowa to Lafayette & Annie Bertha Brown Stout. She was the 7th of 9 children. She had many jobs during her lifetime and the last one was with Vector Corporation of Marion, IA where she worked from 1973 thru 1987 when she retired,

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed in her name to Buffalo United Methodist Church, 4009 Blairs Ferry Rd, Cedar Rapids, IA 52411
