Donald Edward McAlister, 83, of 515 Crimson Dr. NE, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service with military honors will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, July 23, 2010, in St. James United Methodist Church with Rev. Beth Straw officiating. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Don was born on October 1, 1926, in Brush, Colorado to Elton and Helen Douthitt McAlister. He grew up in Brush and Sterling, Colorado, and served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He married Harriett Rolph on February 5, 1945. She died in 1965. He and Mary Joan (McNeill) Ferguson were married on October 4, 1969 in Cedar Rapids. He was employed by Iowa Electric Light and Power for 42 years, both in Sterling and Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1984. He earned a degree from Kirkwood and attended Coe College where he was President of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Fraternity.

Don was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, and Sociables. He was also a member of Marion American Legion Post No 298. He enjoyed traveling, walking at Lindale Mall, following Iowa Women’s Basketball, playing cards, and was an avid reader.

Don is survived by his wife of 40 years Mary Joan (Mary Jo), two sons Glenn McAlister of Iowa City, and Steven (Anita) Ferguson of Dixon, California, two daughters Patricia Williams of Stewartsville, New Jersey, and Penny (Dan) Crespin of Aurora, Colorado, five grandchildren, Todd (Tammy) Ferguson, of Denver, Colorado, Donald Williams of Merrill, Iowa, Christina Lamothe of Chicago, Illinois, Evan and Ilana Ferguson, of Dixon, California, and two great grandchildren, Dakota Ferguson, of Denver, Colorado, and Jake Williams of Merrill, Iowa. He is also survived by a sister, Sandra (George) Tuman of The Villages, Florida, a sister-in-law Judith Nesper of Hiawatha, a brother-in-law James Q. (Dee) McNeill, Jr. of Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and two sisters.

Don’s family would like to thank Dr. John Banks (and staff), Dr. Nasar Payvandi, Dr. James Boddicker, and the nursing staff of 3 Center at St. Luke’s Hospital, for the wonderful care they gave Don for the 34 years he fought heart problems and COPD.

Military honors by Marion American Legion Post No 298.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 1430 Ellis Blvd. NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Mary Mueller
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on May 4, 1973

Mary Mueller, 37, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. David Grandon with military honors by the National Guard. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Mary is survived by her husband, Kelly; a daughter, Mariah Hunter at home; a son, Triston Lambert of Virginia Beach, VA; mother, Maryann (James) McCallon of Albuquerque, NM; siblings, Sherry, Sheila, and Pat Ulibarri, all of Albuquerque, NM, and Pete Ulibarri of WI; her father-in-law, Gary Mueller of Cedar Rapids; her mother-in-law, Dixie (Russell Perkins) Mueller of Fairfax; sister-in-law, Brandy (Mike) Silver; brother-in-law, Kenny (Erica) Mueller; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was born May 4, 1973 in Albuquerque, NM. She married Kelly Mueller on March 9, 2008 in Las Vegas. She received her LPN from Hamilton College in 2007 and was an Organ Recovery Coordinator for the Iowa Donor Network; a job she loved. She served with the Air Force in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008 and continued to be active in the Iowa Air National Guard. She was an avid runner. Her greatest love was for her family.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Mary Grace Matousek
Born in St. Paul, MN on January 8, 1920
Departed on November 17, 2010. Resided in Independence, IA.

Mary Grace Matousek, 90, of Cedar Rapids formerly of Independence died Wednesday November 17, 2010 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence. Burial at Oakwood cemetery in Independence. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday and at the Church after 10 AM on Monday.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith Matousek of Hiawatha and Barbara Matousek of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four siblings.
Mary Grace was born on January 8, 1920 in St. Paul, Minnesota the daughter of Guy and Grace Wilson Wiley. The family moved to Milwaukee and she graduated from Milwaukee Downer College in 1941. Mary Grace joined the WAVES in the United States Naval Reserve in 1943 and was discharged as Lieutenant Jr. Grade in 1949. While in the Navy she was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Long Beach, California where she established the Occupational Therapy Department.
Mary Grace married O. Edwin Matousek on July 25, 1945 in Long Beach, California. He died in 1990. They lived in Newton, Mason City, Oelwein, Cedar Rapids and Independence.
Mary Grace was the head of the Occupational Therapy Dept. at the Iowa Mental Health Institute in Independence for over 28 years, retiring in 1985. She was recognized by the Iowa Occupational Therapy Association in 1982 for 40 years of dedicated service.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, Peoples Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a lifetime member of the Iowa Occupational Therapy Association, and proudly served in the Navy during WWII.
Memorial donations may be given to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.

Bart I. Mere
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on January 4, 1962
Departed on July 1, 2010. Resided in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Bart I. Mere, 48 of 104 19th Ave. Ct. in Hiawatha died of cancer on Thursday July 1, 2010 at St. Lukes Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Memorial Mass: 10:00 AM on Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Reasoner will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon, three sons, Ben, Caleb and Zach and one daughter, Emily all at home; his father, Duayne of Morley, three brothers, Ronnie (Brenda) of Fremont, Ohio, Frank (Peg) of Monticello and Steve of Morley; three sisters, Linda (Gerry) Tenney of Cedar Rapids, Marie Havel and Renada Schoon both of Geneseo, Illinois. He is also survived by 69 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Stefanie and a brother-in-law, Brad Schoon.
Bart was born on January 4, 1962 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Duayne and Stefanie Jankovic Mere. He married Sharon K. Kehrli on May 9, 1992 in Cedar Rapids. Bart was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service for 19 years. He was a member of the VFW and the N.A.L.C.
He enjoyed coaching and watching his children’s sporting events as well as being an avid Kennedy Cougar fan. Bart served in the US Navy and enjoyed all sports. He loved the Oakland As, Raiders and Iowa Hawkeyes. Bart was quite a history buff; especially the events surrounding the Civil War.
He was truly a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Bart’s name.

Donald M. Mann
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on February 23, 1929
Departed on July 1, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Donald M. Mann Jr., 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday June 30, 2010. Services: 6:00 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel where visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.

Survivors include his wife Alice JoAnn Mann, his daughters, Jean Ann (Larry) Hartke of Emporia, Kansas, Amy (Phil Butterfield) Schloss of Cedar Rapids and Kristin Marie (Dave) Sherzer of Cedar Rapids, his grandchildren, Hallie Jo Schloss, Anthony Ray Schloss, Jonah James Sherzer, Jacob Russell Sherzer and his great granddaughter, Maliah Shea Carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Phyllis Harris.

Donald was born February 23, 1929 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Donald and Dorthea Babcook Mann. He married Alice JoAnn Mc Clarrinan on March 21, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. Donald was a draftsman for Turner Microphone. He was a lifetime musician and a member of the Musicians Union. At the age of 15 he started playing in bands and played with Kenny Hoffer and the Howdy Roberts Band. When younger he was an active swimmer in school competition and later built houses. He was very handy and could fix anything. Donald loved attending dances with Alice. He enjoyed spending time with his family and teaching his grandchildren music. Donald was a strong willed person and took good care of his family and was very proud of them. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. William Carl Minney
Born in Monticello, Iowa on June 6, 1923
Departed on June 5, 2010. Resided in Hiawatha, Iowa.

William (Bill) Carl Minney, 86, of Hiawatha, died Saturday June 5, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha.
Services: 10 am. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha by the Rev. Daniel Krueger. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the church after 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine; children, Douglas (Joan) Minney, Diane Minney, Patricia (Alan) Hanson, step-daughter Linda (Tom) McGrath, 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two wives, Ruth Grieff, 1946 and June Knapp, 1978.
William was born June 6, 1923, the son of Fred and Olive (Rickels) Minney, in Monticello, Iowa. On Mar 27, 1982, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Oakes, Waterloo, IA. William worked for Gerber Plumbing for 40 years, retiring in 1985. William enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hiawatha.
Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or the Dennis and
Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, in William’s memory.
