George D. Rusk Jr., 90, of Crestview Acres died there on Sunday November 14, 2010 from complications of old age. Memorial services at 1:00 PM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 12:30 PM. Rev. Dr. T. Edwards Breed will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery where there will be military rites. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Verlien, his children; Ron (Teri) Clarke of Cedar Rapids, Jackie (Nancy) Clarke of Castle Rock, Colorado, Sheila (Jackie) Miller of Marion, James Rusk of East Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, George III (Pam) Rusk of Center Point and Cynthia (Bill) Thomas of Anamosa. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Geraldine and a great grandson, Michael.

George was born on January 6, 1920 in Belle Plaine, the son of George and Eva VanDoren Rusk Sr. He married Verlien M. Sigmund on September 25, 1948 in Iowa City. George was a machinist at Cherry-Burrel for over 22 years, retiring in 1982. He proudly served in the Navy during WWII aboard the USS Laffey from 1943 to 1945 in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

“The family would like to thank the staff at Crestview Acres, Mercy Hospital and Hospice for the wonderful treatment and care they provided in his last five months. Again thank you from the bottom of our hearts. May God bless you all.” George will be greatly missed by all, being the close knit family as we all are.

James Henry Robinson Jr.
Born on October 2, 1962
Departed on November 25, 2010. Resided in Iowa City, Iowa.

James Henry Robinson, Jr., 48, of Iowa City, IA passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (380 Lincoln Hwy, Mt. Vernon, IA). Neil Gilbert will officiate with burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 PM Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

James H. Robinson Jr. of Iowa City, IA has passed away from a sudden illness on November 25, 2010 in his home.

James H. Robinson Jr. was born October 2, 1962 to James and Freda Robinson. His survivors include two daughters Melissa Robinson and Kaylin Robinson; son Corey Robinson; siblings Valerie (Tim) Willard, Donna (Brian) Palmershiem, Kevin (Jessica) Robinson; nieces Anna Robbins, Desiree Bettmeng, Ava and Gretta; three grandchildren Mercedes, Allyson and Anthon; two dogs Snowy and Buddie that he loved very much.

Jimmy was an outspoken person who loved the holidays and to sit back and watch Christmas shows and sing Christmas songs. Jimmy also loved to go fishing.

Though this life may be gone, you will forever be alive in the hearts of those who love you and will live forever in heaven until we see each other again in the presence of our Holy God and Savior Jesus.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Betty Ann Rue
Born in Parkersburg, IA on April 20, 1939
Departed on December 15, 2010. Resided in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Betty Ann Rue, 71, of Hiawatha, died at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Celebration of Life: 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bali Hi Rec Center, 250 Tiki Terrace, Hiawatha by Hospice of Mercy Chaplain Linda Streit. Private graveside services: Waterloo Memorial Park cemetery.

Betty is survived by children, Kevin of Waterloo and Theresa (Tom) Lemon of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Joseph Rue, Aaron, Jared, and Anna Lemon; two sisters; and a brother. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.

Betty was born April 20, 1939 in Parkersburg to Fred and Emma Kusian. She married Richard Rue there on October 2, 1959. She worked for Allen Hospital for many years and later did in-home care in Cedar Rapids. She and her husband owned and operated Action Pest Control. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family and friends. She loved to work in her flower garden and decorate her home.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Steven Roman
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on April 9, 1964
Departed on April 9, 2011. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Steven Roman, 47, of 321 5th St. NW died Saturday April 9, 2011 at St. Lukes Hospital after a sudden illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Patti, a step-daughter, Andrea (Jeff) Slaymaker, step-son, Nathan Farmer, his father George and step-mother Cecelia all of Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Susan (Tom) Roeder of Iowa City, Deborah Roman of Marion, Diane Holt of Davenport and Nicole (Marco) Garcia of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by 5 step-grand children and his dog, Pugs Magoo. He was preceded in death by his mother, a brother George and a sister Rebecca.3

Steve was born on April 9, 1964 in Cedar Rapids, the son of George and Lavida Mundy Roman. He married Patti J. Farmer on September 29, 1996 in Linn County. Steve worked in shipping at Electro-Coatings for several years.

He was a member of American Legion Hanford Post No.5 and proudly served in the Army during Desert Storm. Steve enjoyed animals, long walks, playing golf, reading, listening to music and traveling with Patti. Steve was a wonderful son, husband, father, and brother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial fund has been established in Steve’s name.

Donald E. (Brague) Routson
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on July 24, 1933
Departed on June 5, 2011. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

Donald E. (Brague) Routson, 77, of Marion, died Sunday June 5, 2011from complications of Diabetes. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Mike Morgan. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Patricia, nephews; Bud and Sandy Norris of Mauldin, SC, Mick and Gina Norris of Greenville, SC, Roxan Norris of Greenville SC, Tim and Patty Seltrecht of Cedar Rapids, Tammy Seltrecht of Alburnett, Traci and Jason Fine of Cedar Rapids and other nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Brague and his mother and stepfather, Donald and Lea Routson and a sister, Evelyn Norris.

Donald was born July 24, 1933 in Cedar Rapids. He served in the Navy from 1951 until 1954 and served aboard the destroyer USS Waller DDE 466. He married Patricia Ann Henry on September 10, 1995. He worked at Cherry Burrell for over 40 years before retiring in 1995. He was very active in the Cherry Burrell & Evergreen Retires monthly luncheon. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Benton City 81 in Shellsburg for 40 plus years. He also belonged to the Marion American Legion Post 298. Don and Pat spent the next 11 years wintering in their Florida home Ocklawaha, Florida. Donald loved to play golf and go fishing.

Martha M. Marti Rupp
Born in Roswell, New Mexico on August 7, 1934
Departed on June 16, 2011. Resided in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Martha M. “Marti” Rupp, 76, of 2717 Goldfinch Lane in Hiawatha died Thursday died Thursday June 16, 2011 at Mercy Medial Center after a long illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday.
Survivors include her husband, Nathan, two sons Robert Waddell of Cedar Rapids and Shelly Rupp of Des Moines; four daughters, Lisa Noethe of Cedar Rapids, Heidi (Buck) Miner of Belle Plaine, Nicole of Cedar Rapids and Lori Cooperider of Washington, Iowa; one sister, Beatrice Bell of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Ruben Rodriquez of Las Vegas, Nevada and her two pet dogs, Pinky and Honey. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son Brian.
Marti was born on August 7, 1934 in Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of Margarito and Rosie Morales Rodriguez. She married Nathan B. Rupp on Aug 7, 1976 in Davenport. Marti was a waitress at several local restaurants, most recently at Michaels Restaurant where she worked for several years.
Marti enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, cooking and especially the time she spent with her beloved family and many many friends.
A memorial fund has been established in Marti’s name.

Elizabeth Gail Roesch
Born in Monmouth, Illinois on June 29, 1927
Departed on August 14, 2011. Resided in Des Moines, Iowa.

Elizabeth “Gail” Roesch, 84, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday August 17, 2011 at 10:30 AM at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with burial following at Cedar Creek cemetery in Little York, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.

Gail was the only child born to Meinrad and Mary Glas on June 29, 1927. Gail graduated from Monmouth High School in Monmouth, Illinois and graduated from Monmouth College in 1948. She taught for a year in Morrison, Illinois. She married Jack Roesch on July 23, 1949 whom she met while attending Monmouth College.

Gail and Jack lived in Cedar Falls and Independence before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1958. There they raised their daughter Jill. Gail was a resident of Cedar Rapids for 44 years before moving to Des Moines to be closer to her daughter Jill and family.

Gail’s passion was being a devoted and loving wife and mother. Gail was also a member of First Lutheran Church being active in KeenAgers, Wednesday Circle and Sunday School. She enjoyed gardening, music, sewing and baking. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Matthew and Abigail (Abby).

She is survived by her daughter Jill and husband Mark Burch, grandchildren Matthew and Abigail, all from Des Moines and other family and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Roesch; her parents Meinrad and Mary Glas, cousins and other family members.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the American Heart Association.
