Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on February 2, 1922
Departed on August 26, 2010. Resided in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Family Gathering: Thursday, September 2, 2010
Charles W. Teply, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died August 26, 2010 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following an extended illness. Per Charles’ wishes he was cremated. A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.

Surviving are his wife Wilma; his daughter, Rita G. Best and husband Dennis of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Tammi Heaton and husband Bill of Cedar Rapids and Kelly Best of Gilbert, Arizona; great grandchildren Brooke and Cody Heaton; as well as several nieces and nephews including his favorite nephew Sam Tvrdik of Gowrie, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Robert, 4 half brothers, and 2 half sisters.

Charles was born February 2, 1922 in Cedar Rapids. He was united in marriage to Wilma B. Trachta on August 29, 1941 in Missouri. He was a devoted husband of 68 years. He served his country honorably in the United States Army in WWII, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre assigned to 89th Station Hospital. He owned the McKinley DX Gas Station for several years. He later worked in mechanics at Rapids Chevrolet and Allen Motors, a machinist at Iowa Manufacturing, and retired at Rockwell Goss as the Maintenance Foreman. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, and above all time spent with family. He will be remembered by family and friends for his sense of humor, willingness to lend a helping hand, and a generous heart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or to the National Czech and Slovak Museum.

Lola E. Thomas
Born in Rural Shellsburg, IA on December 11, 1913
Departed on October 12, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Lola E. Thomas, 95, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Monday, October 12, 2009 at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. Karen Young officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the chapel.

Survivors include a daughter, Norma (Don) Hentges of Sahuarita, CA, daughter in law Linda Thomas of Cedar Rapids, and grandchildren Theresa (Stephan) Messal, Christine (Christopher) Adam, Don (Sara) Hentges, Peter (Nandiara) Hentges, RuthAnn Hentges, John (Kate) Matthews, and Sara Matthews. Also surviving are ten great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, a very good friend Mannie Kaufman, and several nieces & nephews.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents, husband LeRoy Thomas, son Martin, an infant son and daughter, two sisters, and six brothers.

Lola Emmaline Gillis was born December 11, 1913 in rural Shellsburg, IA to Porter and Della Gillis. She married LeRoy Thomas in 1930 and he would precede her in death in 1962. She would later marry George Rosewall in 1974 and later separate.

Lola worked 38 years in downtown stores and would retire from Armstrong’s as a buyer and served on their Board of Directors. After retirement Lola enjoyed volunteer work, and spending her free time traveling, fishing, sewing, reading and gardening. She was a member of Lovely Lane Methodist Church, St. Luke’s Auxiliary, Moose Lodge, VFW Lodge, and a former Woman of the Year with American Business Women.

John Leonard Stark
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on July 19, 1916
Departed on September 16, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

John Leonard Stark, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday September 16, 2004 in Northbrook Manor following a short illness. There will be no service or visitation. His body was cremated. Cedar Memorial is in charge of gements.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marcia Kopecky Stark, a son, Michael Mary of Anacortes, Washington, a daughter, Marcia of Splendora, Texas, two grandsons, Brian and Jamie, a sister, Lenore Topinka of Denver, Colorado and a great great grandchild, Brody.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was born July 19, 1916 in Cedar Rapids, the son of George and Helen Kacena Stark. He married Marcia Kopecky on December 31, 1941 in Cedar Rapids. John graduated from the University of Iowa in 1938 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. John was a design engineer and owner /operator of Advance Service Printing for 33 years and started Selective Engineering Design in 1984.
He began scuba diving in 1956 and taught for the YMCA in 1958. John was noted for being the first certified scuba instructor in Cedar Rapids. In 1961 he was the director of the first certifying institute in Iowa, certifying nine candidates from Cedar Rapids. John was a charter member of the now Hawkeye Scuba Club in 1958. He served in various offices, on the board and was president in 1963. In 1984 he was named National YMCA Instructor Emeritus. John loved to do stand up comedy at Comedy Diver at Steel Pier in Atlantic City.
John served in many offices of the Tuesday Noon Optimist and was Honor Club President in 1954-1955. He was instrumental in starting the Optimist Christmas Club Program. John's interests included swimming, bowling, the Optimist Club, reading and idea development.

Geraldine 'Geri' M. Yock
Born in Olin, Iowa on November 2, 1923

Geraldine "Geri" M. Yock: 80, of Cedar Rapids, lately of Pennington Square in Monticello, died Tuesday morning, July 6, at St. Luke's hospital following a brief illness. Please join us in celebrating Geri's glorious life Friday, July 9, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Pastor Lynn Thiede officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and at the church after 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Geri is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clarence Yock of Monticello, a daughter, Jayne Billington and husband John of Santa Rosa, California, a son Thomas Yock and wife Jane of Hiawatha, Iowa, a sister Florence Baldwin of Monticello, a brother Clifford Dirks and wife Sandy of Wyoming, Iowa and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Geri was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Ann Jones on March 25, 2004, two brothers, LeRoy Dirks and Donald Dirks and a sister, Dorothy Hurst.
Geri was born November 2, 1923 in Olin, Iowa the daughter of Gerd and Augusta Husmann Dirks. She married Clarence R. Yock on October 2, 1943 in Glendale, California. Geri was proudly employed at Kirkwood Community College from 1968 to 1987 retiring as the bookstore manager. She also worked at Fannie Farmer's for many years. She was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was active in the "Kirkwood Oldies" and a member of the VFW Auxillary. Geri enjoyed games, music, sewing and gardening. She dearly loved and cared for her family and friends. Her spirit of love and caring made a tremendous impact on all those who knew her and loved her. Memorials may be made in Geri's memory to the American Diabetes Association; the Alzhemiers Association or Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Raymond C. Struble
Born in Iowa County on February 10, 1913
Departed on August 13, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Raymond C. Struble, 91, of 3960 Johnson Avenue NW, died Friday, August 13, 2004, as a result of an auto accident. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Turner West Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Ruppert. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and after 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Survivors include a brother Charles; and two brothers-in-law, Ronald and Everett Harrelson.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen in 1978.

Raymond was born February 10, 1913 in Iowa County. He married Kathleen Harrelson in Cedar Rapids on April 18, 1953. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. Raymond was a member of the Moose Lodge # 304, Elks Lodge #251, Crescent Masonic Lodge # 25, El Kahir Shrine Temple, VFW Post # 788, and Eagles Aerie # 2272.

Memorials may be sent to the Shriners Hospital For Children.

Doris O. Youmans
Born in Maynard, Iowa on November 4, 1914

Dora O. Youmans, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died at Mercy Medical Center, Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. Interment: 11 a.m. Monday at St. John’s cemetery, Sumner, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.

Dora is survived by her daughter, Janice Basemann of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Renee Camblin, Michael and Nicole Robertson, and Robert Basemann; and great grandchildren, Phillip Robertson and Mykala Mazzocco; and great great granddaughter, Annabelle Robertson. Also surviving are her two cats and her canary. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; three sisters; and three brothers.

Dora was born November 4, 1914 in Maynard to Fred and Clara Hoeger. She married George Youmans there on April 6, 1941. Dora loved to garden, follow the Hawks, watch CMT, and play Rummikscube. She was very hard to beat. She had a solid belief in her Lord and wanted others to believe and be baptized. She always worried about others. Dora was known for her Christmas fudge and sugar cookies.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Helen M. Walenczyk
Born in Garfield, N.J. on April 11, 1931
Departed on October 19, 2002. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Helen M. Walenczyk, 71, of 4245 Westchester Dr N.E. died Saturday October 19, 2002 in the University of Iowa Hospitals following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St Pius X Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald Klein will officiate. Friends may call on Cedar Memorial Funeral Home today from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years Ben Walenczyk, a son, Bruce Walenczyk and wife Elizabeth of Bethesda, Maryland, a daughter, Eileen Solomon of Cedar Rapids, a brother, Michael Lupichuk of Wayne, New Jersey, and 2 grandchildren, Leadra Solomon of Chicago, Illinois and Ryan Solomon of Cedar Rapids.
Her parents and 2 brothers preceded her in death.
Helen was born April 11, 1931 in Garfield, New Jersey, the daughter of Michael Lupichuk and Julia Ianitician Lupichuk. She married Ben H. Walenczyk on October 1, 1949 in Garfield, New Jersey. Helen was a loan officer at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey. She was a member of St Pius X Catholic Church, and a member of the Rosary Society in New Jersey. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, reading, sewing and cooking.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the St Pius X Church building fund.
