Peggy L. Schulze, 82, of 650 34th St. SE died Tuesday November 30, 2010 at her home after a short illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include her husband, David, two daughters, Janet (Michael) Evans of Cedar Rapids and Luanne (Brian) Carter of Swisher; three sons, Gary of Phoenix, AZ., John and Bob both of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Nicki Evans
Peggy was born on May 20, 1928 in Columbus Junction, the daughter of Arthur and Rachel Green Hanson. She married David E. Schulze on May 2, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. Peggy was a homemaker and a member of First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed their cabin in Delhi with family and friends for many years, was an avid Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed watching the birds in the back yard feeders.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Peggy’s name.

Robert Clarence Smith
Born in Hof/Saale, Germany on January 3, 1949
Departed on November 30, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Service: Saturday, December 4, 2010
Robert Clarence Smith, 61, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. The Pastor Del Bear will officiate. Friends may call 1 hour before the service.

Survivors include his wife Karlene of Cedar Rapids; children Eric and Kesa Smith; brothers Steven, Victor (Diana), and Kenny Smith; sister Pam (George) Rusk; in-laws Kevin (Val) Snyder and Karen (Tim) Buelow and families; and a dear friend and care giver Jim Huston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law Kay Snyder and Connie Smith; and his mother and father-in-law.

Robert was born January 3, 1949 in Hof/Saale, Germany, the son of Robert and Elfriede (Wolfrum) Smith. Robert attended Marion High School and was veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam. He married Karlene Snyder on September 5, 1981 in Mt. Vernon. He was employed for many years with Mount Mercy College in the maintenance department. Robert’s greatest joys in life were his family and trout fishing.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family.

Eddie Lee Swayze
Born in Natchez, MS on January 11, 1953
Departed on December 17, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Eddie Lee Swayze, 57, of Cedar Rapids passed away peacefully in his home Friday December 17, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held in Natchez, Mississippi at his request.

Eddie is survived by 2 children; Antoine Mearday and Lakeitha RaShawn Luster; 2 grandchildren; 3 brothers; Riley (Clara) Swayze of Cedar Rapids; Louis Swazy, Fird (Laura) Swazy of Natchez, MS; 8 sisters; Mamie Washington, Doris Holmes, Cassie Elery, Shirley Elery, Georgia (Milton) Dobbins all of Natchez, MS; Bimkubwa (Clyde) Davis, Dazie Swayze, Sarah (Darel) Swayze of Cedar Rapids; and a host of other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie Hall Swayze and Clarence Swayze.

Eddie was born January 11, 1953 in Natchez, Mississippi. He was employed by Quaker Oats Company. He loved fishing, playing pool, music, and celebrating life with his friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

David Dean Schmoldt
Born in Cedar Rapids on December 3, 1954
Departed on December 20, 2010. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

David D. Schmoldt, 56, of Marion, died Monday, December 20, 2010. A public visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. on Wednesday December 22 at Cedar Memorial. Funeral services will be held Thursday December 23 at 1 PM at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Bill Harnish will officiate.

David was born December 3, 1954 in Cedar Rapids, IA to the late John and Doreen Moorman Schmoldt. He was a 1973 graduate of Washington High School. He attended the University of Iowa and was a member of the marching band. He graduated in 1977 with a teaching degree. He taught school for several years but ultimately decided to make a career change. He became involved with computers and joined the IT department at the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

He worked as a sound man for Theatre Cedar Rapids since 1980. David was involved in Washington High School theater productions and was later elected to their Hall of Fame. In addition, he spent time producing for the Liar’s Theater.

David is survived by his sister Barbara (Robert) Hasley, an Aunt, Uncle, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and paternal and maternal grandparents.

Memorial contributions in David’s honor may be made to Theatre Cedar Rapids 102 3rd Street SE Cedar Rapids, IA 52401-1246.

Marie Molesse Stookey
Born in Silver Spring, Nebraska on October 4, 1914
Departed on December 21, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Marie M. Stookey, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died December 21, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 8, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family after 1:00 PM. Officiating will be Julie Freese, Certified Celebrant with Cedar Memorial.

Surviving are her children David Stookey and wife Janelle of Council Bluffs, Gail Moes and husband Bob of Pasedena, TX, and Melissa Chamberlain of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; sister, Virginia Brockman of California; brother-in-law Dr. Stanley D. Stookey of Pittsford, NY; as well as many wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David, and two brothers, Donald and Douglas.

Marie Molesse Stookey was born October 4, 1914 in Silver Spring, NE the daughter of Art and Hazel (Lewis) Burgoyne. She was united in marriage to David K. Stookey on September 3, 1937 in Ida Grove. He preceded her in death in 1990. Marie and David moved various places throughout their lives and enjoyed entertaining and throwing parties for friends and family. Marie had a great love of art and was an accomplished and creative oil painter. Her greatest focus throughout her life was her family. From teaching painting to the grandchildren, having parties, or simply spending time together, she was devoted to her family. Her life will continue to live on in the love she shared with family and her many beautiful paintings she created.

Bessie Lucile Zvacek
Born in Moscow, Iowa on May 18, 1908
Departed on March 29, 2012. Resided in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Bessie Zvacek, 103, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died March 29, 2012 in Oklahoma City, OK after a short illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” Zvacek; two sisters, Florence and Helen; two brothers, Lester and Donald; grand daughter Tracy Lee; daughter in law, Cindy Zvacek.

Survivors include son Charles Zvacek of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Karen (Allan) Fluke of Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Shirley Shanahan of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Bessie was born May 18, 1908 in Moscow, Iowa to Charles C. Hipple and Lena Olson Hipple. She married Dick Zvacek on August 21, 1933 in Chicago, IL. Bessie and Dick owned and operated the Nite Owl grocery store from 1954 to 1972 in Cedar Rapids. Bessie’s hands were never idol; they were spent knitting, crocheting, sewing and making special Christmas ornaments. Every child, grandchild, great grandchild and great great grandchild received their own special tree ornament every year. She also loved to sew and crochet outfits for dolls that were also often given as gifts to family and friends. At age 95, Bessie moved into her daughter Karen’s home in Oklahoma City. She continued her crafts to the very end.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
