Theresa Rudisill

BRITT - Theresa F. Rudisill, 96, of Britt died Thursday (April 16, 2010) at the Summit House in Britt
Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M., Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt with Fr. Henry Huber officiating. Burial will be at Bingham Township Cemetery south of Woden.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt with a rosary at 7 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Theresa Frances Rudisill, the daughter of Albert and Anna May (Heinen) Weishaar, was born June 14, 1913 in Dallas Township, Marion County, Iowa. She attended school in Marion County. She moved with her family to the Woden area where she worked for several families. She eventually was employed as a nanny by her future husband, John Rudisill, following the death of his first wife, Margaret. John and Theresa were married September 19, 1934 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt. They lived their entire married life in Woden. Theresa worked at the Wapello Produce and later the Woden library for many years. After her husband's death in 1993, she continued to lived in Woden. On March 15th of this year she moved to Summit House in Britt. Theresa enjoyed crocheting, dancing, morning coffee with friends and playing cards.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woden; and after it closed, St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt. She was active with the Ladies Guild and Woden Senior Citizens.
Theresa is survived by her children, Marjorie (Myrle) Cushman, Titonka; John R. (Lynn) Rudisill, Des Moines; Shirley (Richard) Myers, Mesa, AZ; Maryann (Roger) Alphs, Buffalo Center; Janice (Dale) Dillon, Thief River Falls, MN; Charles (Donna) Rudisill, Woden; Elizabeth (Frank) Lara, Ventura, CA; and James (Laurie) Rudisill, Wapello; 32 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd (Dottie) Weishaar; Algona; and four sisters: Gladys Stalzer, Algona; Pauline (Carl) Peter, Algona; Geraldine Weishaar; Algona; and Bertha Engstler, Seattle, WA.
She was preceded in death by her husband John; daughters Gladys McClanahan and Darlene Swartz; parents; son-in-law Bob McClanahan; grandsons David Cushman and Robert McClanahan; granddaughter Beverly Lewis; great-great grandson Jayden Robinson; sister Dorothy Warehime; and brothers Carl and Edwin Weishaar.

Elda Hopkins
Jun 6, 1927 - Jun 11, 2010
Elda Hopkins, 83, passed away at her home on June 11, 2010, after a lengthy battle with multiple myeloma. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Foster's Chapel with Jeff Thayer and Greg Willert officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening 5:00 – 8:00 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.
Elda Rina Baroni, daughter of Angelo and Giulia (Tonoli) Baroni, was born June 6, 1927, in Pozzolengo, Italy. At the age of six, she moved with her family to Argenteuil, a suburb of Paris, France, where she lived until after World War II and the German Occupation of France. She received her education in Argenteuil and Paris. She was employed by the U.S. Army as an interpreter, where she met Keith Hopkins, who was stationed at the same Army facility. They were married on December 14, 1946. She immigrated to the United States in 1947 and became a naturalized citizen in 1950. Keith and Elda lived in Colorado, California and Nebraska before moving to Iowa in 1954. In 1958, the family settled in Webster City.
Elda's early years in the U.S. were spent raising her family and assisting with her husband's farming operation. She later earned a Master's Degree in French from Iowa State University and taught French and Spanish at Webster City High School for 19 years, retiring in 1990. She enjoyed teaching French and sharing the culture, history and art of France with others. She led tours for more than two hundred students and others to France and Spain as part of her teaching career, and into retirement.
After retiring, she volunteered in many ways in the community, but was most passionate as a French teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas School and as the coordinator of the Kendall Young Library annual book sale and girls' formal tea parties. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, gardening and being with family and friends. She was a member of a nondenominational Christian fellowship for many years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Bill (Nina) Hopkins of Gilroy, California; daughters Michelle (Chan) Kershner of Tucson, Arizona, and Josi (Bill) Greenley of Webster City; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, and one grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be given to the Kendall Young Library or Hamilton Hospice.

Melissa Standard
Sep 14, 1960 - Sep 5, 2010
Melissa (Hingst) Standard, 49, of Burlington died at 4:39 a.m. on Sunday, September 5, 2010, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines as a result of injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Born September 14, 1960 in Burlington she was the daughter of Paul Lewis and Alice Lucile Bright Hingst. On November 24, 1989 she married Tim L. Standard in Burlington.
Melissa was a 1979 graduate of Notre Dame High School and attended Southeastern Community College. She worked for the Burlington Community School System as a teacher’s associate.
Melissa and her family belonged to the West Burlington United Methodist Church, where she was a lay speaker and lay leader. Melissa also served on the staff parish, the church council, the finance committee and was instrumental in youth group. She enjoyed scrapbooking, stamping, crafting and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Her biggest enjoyment was her family, especially her daughters, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her husband, Tim Standard of Burlington; two daughters, Emma Standard and Molly Standard both of Burlington; her parents, Paul and Alice Hingst of Burlington; six brothers, Thomas (Pat) Hingst of Waukee, Mark (Mina) Hingst of Tucson, Arizona, David Hingst, John Hingst, Roger Hingst and Eric Hingst all of Burlington; six sisters, Mary Bright Hingst of Bloomfield, Jane Hingst of Bettendorf, Barbara Hingst of Iowa City, Sally Hingst of Iowa City, Rebecca Hingst of Burlington, Michelle (Bob) Turnbull of Bellevue, Nebraska and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Teah Allyn Standard; two sisters, Christina and Christal and one brother, Gregory.
Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
The memorial service for Melissa will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 8th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Jackie Bradford will officiate. Interment will be at a later date. Cremation has been accorded.
A memorial has been established.

Opal Clauz
Feb 4, 1929 - Sep 6, 2010
Mrs. Opal Fern Clauz, 81, of Burlington died at 7:52 AM Monday, September 6, 2010, at Great River Hospice House.
Born February 4, 1929 in Newtown, MO she was the daughter of Burton and Della Opal Miller Long. In 1947 she married Charles Bartimus and he preceded her in death .On October 13, 1973 she married Louis J. Clauz in Burlington. He preceded her in death on October 20th, 1997.
She graduated valedictorian from Milan High School Class of 1945 in Milan, Missouri
Mrs. Clauz worked for Murray Ironworks, Mississippi Valley Bank in Burlington and then Valley Bank in Reno, NV 1974-1976 before retiring and moving back to Burlington. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, word search puzzles, watching her favorite Soap Operas, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Vickie (Bill) Malcom, of Mediapolis; one son Craig (Pam) Bartimus of Burlington; two granddaughters, Trisha (John) Hager and Tonya (Chad) Wissinger of Burlington; five great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren and one step great great grandchild; one sister Phyllis(Jug)Fulks of Milan, Mo; numerous nieces and nephews.
Her husbands, parents, and one sister Mary Cleo Chiatovich preceded her in death.
The funeral service for Mrs. Opal Fern Clauz will be 11 AM Wednesday, September 8th in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Randy Langner officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Ernie Cupp
Apr 1, 1926 - Jan 10, 2009
Ernest Earl Cupp, son of Reuben and Grace Hubbell Cupp, was born April 1, 1926 at Dows. He graduated from Blairsburg Public School. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the L.S.T. 576 as a motor machinist mate.
Following his discharge, he returned to Iowa and farmed with his father, north of Clarion. He moved to Webster City in October of 1947. He married Geneva Alexander and to this union two children were born, Karilyn and Keith. The couple were later divorced. Ernie owned and operated a Phillips 66 Service Station on Second Street in Webster City for 29 years. On October 21, 1974, he married Cleta Watters Johnson at Sioux Falls, SD. The couple owned and operated Webster City Floral for 17 years, he retired in 1993. He drove a school bus for the Webster City school system for 20 plus years.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Cleta; daughter, Karilyn Cupp of Webster City; step-children, Gary and Janna Johnson of Perry; Marty and Gloria Johnson of Webster City; Ranae Mortenson of Ames; grandchildren, Joshua and Danielle Johnson; Jordan Johnson; Cody and Katie Johnson; Austin Johnson; Zachary and Tammy Mortenson; Nicholas and Tina Mortenson; Alex Mortenson; Lindsey Mortenson and Rylee Mortenson; great-grandchildren, Ali, Jadyn and Jason Mortenson.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents and son, Keith Cupp in 1999.
He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and was past president of the Webster City Lions Club.
