John J. Nitzschke
John J. Nitzschke, 52, of Marshall, Mo., formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, June 29, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Marshall, with the Rev. Louis E. Dorn officiating. Visitation will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m., at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.
Mr. Nitzschke was born Nov. 21, 1945, in Remsen, Iowa, the son of Elmer T. and Florentine C. (Stoos) Nitzschke.
He attended St. Mary's Grade School in Remsen, until he moved with his family to Sioux City in 1957. He attended Epiphany Grade School and graduated from Heelan High School in 1964. He received his bachelor degree from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1968. He received his master's degree in social work from the University of Nebraska.
He married Janice L. Johnson on June 27, 1970. He began his social work career at the Boys and Girls Home in Sioux City in 1969. The couple moved to Marshall in 1976, from Lincoln, Neb.
He was employed as a social worker at the Butterfield Youth Services in Marshall since 1976.
He was of the Catholic faith and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 876 in Marshall.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael and his wife, Allyson, of Belton, Mo., and Patrick of Marshall; a daughter, Stephanie Nitzschke of Marshall; a grandson, Michael Gage Nitzschke; four brothers and their wives, Elmer and Karen of Gettysberg, S.D., Ron and Ann of Longwood, Fla., Dale and Linda of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Dave and Cindy of McCook Lake, S.D.; three sisters, Shirley McLaughlin and Mary and her husband, Thomas Lindblom, all of Sioux City, and Norma Hall of Waterloo, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to the Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice in Marshall.

Milton Olson Sr.
Milton H. Olson Sr., 72, of Sioux City died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Olson was born May 15, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Arthur and Vida (Stockwell) Olson. He attended Central High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
He married June E. Spindler on Oct. 19, 1946, in Sioux City. She died May 24, 1994, in Sioux City.
He was employed with Chicago Northwestern Railroad from 1949 to 1965. He was a carrier with the U.S. Postal Service from 1965 until his retirement in 1989.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Harbor Club.
Survivors include two sons, Milton Jr. and David and his wife, Katie, all of Sioux City; three daughters, JoAnn and her husband, Roger Godlevsky, of Glendale, Ariz., Terri Stolpe of Stratham, N.H., and Jeanne and her husband, Kenneth Barnes, of Robbinsdale, Minn.; his twin brother, Melvin of Hornick, Iowa; two sisters, Shirley Anderson and Gwendolyn Plantz, both of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Jr.; and an infant sister.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.

Doris M. Briegel
Doris M. Briegel, 80, of Sergeant Bluff died Monday at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sergeant Bluff United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

June E. Gehrts
June E. Gehrts, 74, of Sioux City died Monday, June 29, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Donohue Sarff officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Mrs. Gehrts was born Nov. 23, 1923, in Sioux City, the daughter of Frank and Bernice (Adams) Bursick. She graduated from Sioux City schools.
She married Henry M. Gilbertson on June 7, 1947. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker. She married Galen Gehrts on Jan. 17, 1970, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Hank and Vesta Gilbertson of Jefferson, S.D.; two daughters, Melissa Gilbertson and Julie and her husband Jerry O'Connor, all of Sioux City; six stepchildren, Marsha and her husband, Paul Ratashak, of Des Moines, Eldean Gehrts of Sioux City, Nancy Mohr of Plattsmouth, Neb., Tom Gehrts and his wife, Suzanne, of Fredricksburg, Va., Susan and her husband, Paul Flemming, of Correctionville, Iowa, and James Gehrts and his wife of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters and their husbands, Janice and Sarge Ebbensgaard and Sherrie and Merton Chmelka, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Susan E. Woods
Susan Elaine Woods, 36, of Sioux City died Monday, June 29, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Mike Anderson officiating. Family graveside services will be at a later date in Ridgeview Cemetery, Fremont, Neb. There will be no visitation.
Ms. Woods was born June 28, 1962, in Osceola, Neb. She attended Sioux City schools.
Survivors include a daughter, Ashley; her parents, Lawrence and Ruth Bales; four sisters, Deb and her husband, Mike Mayer, Marie Gerard, Joyce and her husband, Jim Young, and Jackie and her husband, Dan Jasper; a brother, Dan Meyer; her grandmothers, Loas Doose and Viola Bales; her special friend, Ted Schulz; and many aunts and uncles.

Eugene H. Buehre
Eugene H. Buehre, 77, of Holstein, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City and Akron, Iowa, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Riverside Cemetery at Akron, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Mr. Buehre was born May 20, 1921, in Sioux City, the son of Herbert W. and Augusta R. (Popken) Buehre. He resided in Akron until moving to Sioux City at the age of 30.
He was employed with Container Corporation for more than 23 years. He then moved to the nursing home in Holstein.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde W. Buehre.

Susanne K. Minar
Susanne Kay (Madison) Minar, 33, of Tipton, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died of cancer Monday at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, Ill.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. Burial will be in Tipton Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nola Schoelerman
EVERLY, Iowa - Nola Schoelerman, 94, of Everly died Monday at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Marlin Johnson
DOON, Iowa - Marlin LeRoy Johnson, 45, of Doon died Monday at Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church in Doon. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

Gerrit E. Slothouber
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Gerrit E. Slothouber, 85, of Sioux Center died Monday, June 29, 1998, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Brad Langstraat officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Township Cemetery, Boyden, Iowa. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Mr. Slothouber was born Nov. 2, 1912, near Boyden, Iowa, the son of Gerrit Sr. and Minnie (Langstraat) Slothouber. He graduated from the eighth grade at Boyden Public School.
He married Jennie Vanden Bosch on Dec. 14, 1939. The couple farmed near Boyden and he also was employed at the Farmers Co-op Society of Boyden. She died Nov. 10, 1987.
He married Nancy Pluim on June 17, 1990. They moved to Sioux Center in 1992.
He was a member of Central Reformed Church and served on the Regency in Sioux Center.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Gerald and Adeline of Sioux Center and Donald and Norma of Hull, Iowa; three stepdaughters, Tracy and her husband, Clifford De Boom, of Lynden, Wash., Lucille Brotherton of St. Augustine, Fla., and Nancy and her husband, Roger Visser, of Sioux Center; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 23 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two brothers and their wives, Corneluis and Johnanna and Anthony and Sophia, all of Boyden.
Pallbearers will be Michael and Brian Slothouber, Brian Lee Vanden Brink, Jeff Visser, Greg DeJong, Jeff TeBrink and David De Boom.
