Ricky R. McGeorge
Ricky Ray McGeorge, 52, formerly of Sioux City died of a sudden illness Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, in Davenport, Iowa.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Paul's Methodist Church in South Sioux City. Burial will be at a later date.

Mr. McGeorge was born July 14, 1946, in Omaha, Neb. He graduated from Lynch High School in O'Neill, Neb., in 1964, and attended Norfolk Community College in Norfolk, Neb.

He was a veteran of the Armed Forces and of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include four daughters, Tracy McGeorge and her fiancee Leif Larson, Wendy and her husband, Robert Olson, Corey and Amy McGeorge, all of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Alex Quinlain, Abby Jons and Robert Olson Jr.; his mother and stepfather, Gladys and Louis Storey; a brother, Robert McGeorge; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond McGeorge.

Helen L. Gilmore
Helen L. Gilmore, 94, of Sioux City died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:45 a.m. today at Holy Spirit Chapel, with the Rev. Gerald A. Hartz officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Gilmore was born June 10, 1904, in Webb, Iowa, the daughter of Frank L. and Clara A. (Hagerty) Gowen. She graduated from Spencer (Iowa) High School in 1922. She moved to Sioux City in 1923 and graduated from Morningside College in 1927.

She married Roy Gilmore on Sept. 15, 1934, in South Sioux City. He died June 2, 1965, in Sioux City. She was employed as a social worker with Family Services for 27 years, prior to her association with Easter Seal Society for seven years. She retired in 1977.

She was a member of Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Linwood Gowen; a sister, Lucy Derham; and a niece and long time companion, Catheryn Twohig.

Mary Norris
Mary Norris Tipton, 81, of Tallahasse, Fla., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday at her residence.

There were no services. Arrangements were under the direction of Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahasse.

Anna Elbaum
Anna Elbaum, 89, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Mount Carmel Cemetery, with Rabbi Yossi Zylberberg of Congregation Beth Shalom officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mrs. Elbaum was born Feb. 25, 1909, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Morris and Sarah (Cohen) Bernstein. She was employed as a seamstress with a garment manufacturer in New York City.

She married Sidney Elbaum in New York City. He died in the early 1980s, in New York City. She then moved to Sioux City.

Survivors include four nephews, Norman and Jack Bernstein, both of Sioux City and Stanley and Stewart Bernstein, both of New York City; and four nieces, Elaine Berlind of Mount Kisco, N.Y., Susan Friedman, Adrian Gold and Roberta Bernstein, all of New York City.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel, Harry and Lewis Bernstein; and a sister, Lena Friedman.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Congragation Beth Shalom.

Arthur M. Anderson
Arthur M. Anderson, 93, of Sioux City died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Chancellor Baptist Cemetery, Chancellor, S.D. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Cornelius Dykstra
Cornelius "Case" Dykstra, 85, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at his residence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Donald C. Cameron II officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Dykstra was born Feb. 7, 1913, in Boyden, Iowa, the son of Eeltje and Mary (Vander Maten) Dykstra. He graduated from Boyden High School and attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.

He married Theresa C. Bloemendaal on Aug. 31, 1936, in Orange City. He was employed as a territorial sales manager with Kent Feed for 27 years, retiring in 1978.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and SCORE, where he was a past chairman, for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Douglas and Carolyn of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Diann and Phillip Grillet of Sioux City; four sisters, Wilma and her husband, Lambert Bouma of Hull, Iowa, Mathilda Vander Schoor of Rogers, Ark., Lyda Houtsma of Redlands, Calif., and Mary Ann and her husband, Harold DeBoer, of Kansas City, Kan.; and six grandchildren, Michael Sweisberger, Benjamin and Casey Grillet, Michelle, Kelliann and Cynthia Dykstra.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank.

Pallbearers will be Benjamin Grillet, Greg DeBoer, Terrance and Phillip Dykstra, Bernie Karssens and Greg Thousand.

Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church.

August V. Kowalski
August V. Kowalski, 90, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Lawrence McCarty of St. Michael's Catholic Church officiating. Graveside services will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Scotland, S.D., with the Rev. John Maliyekal of St. George Catholic Church, Scotland, officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Kowalski was born Feb. 14, 1908, in Scotland, the son of August and Emilia (Lembeke) Kowalski. He farmed near Scotland briefly, then moved to Detroit, MIch., where he was employed as a carpenter for many years. Upon retirement, he moved to Sioux City, where he was a part-time carpenter.

He married Lois C. Cuthrell on Jan. 6, 1981, in Elk Point, S.D.

He was a member of Carpenter Union 998, Eagles Lodge in Detroit, and Moose Lodge in Yankton, S.D. He built a stagecoach, which he entered in parades.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Bill and Rita of Boise, Idaho, and John and Pamela of Trenton, Texas; a stepson and his wife, Eldon and Nancy Cuthrell of Early, Iowa; three stepdaughters, Colleen Steele of Houston, Texas, Jean and her husband, Danny Smith, of Gold Canyon, Ariz., and Connie K. and her husband, John Anderson, of Omaha, Neb.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Chris, Bernard and Antoine; and a sister, Ann Dawson.

Pallbearers will be Dean, Dan and David Cuthrell, Roger and Bob Anderson and Randy Carlson.

Harold Wasson Sr.
Harold L. Wasson Sr., 83, of Sioux City died Wednesday at Casa de Paz following a brief illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Tho Van Luong
Tho Van Luong, 74, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mornigside Lutheran Churchm with the Rev. Tom Lo Van officiating. The body will be cremated following the service. Burial will be at a later date in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Mr. Luong was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Sonla, Vietnam.

He married Doy T. Luong in Vietnam. The couple lived in Laos from 1954 to 1980. He served in the Loatian military. They moved to the United States in 1981. They lived in Rock Rapids, Iowa until moving to Sioux City in 1985. She died Jan. 8, 1996, in Sioux City.

He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Ike and Chen Luong and Oune and Nenett Luong, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; four daughters, Bing and her husband, Lot Louan of Worthington, Minn., Neuay and her husband, Keo Luong, of Kansas City, Mo., Phiou Cam and Amphay and her husband, Ha Lo, all of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchlildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Sam Luong.

Pallbearers will be Ike and Oune Luong, Vichith, John and Teen Lo and Savath Cam.

James E. Huigens
James E. Huigens, 82, of Sioux City died Thursday at Casa de Paz.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 9 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Ronald E. Delier
Ronald E. Delier, 69, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Thursday at his residence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Berkemier Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

William W. "Bill" Broer
William W. "Bill" Broer, 54, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday; Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. 

Kathryn Double
JEFFERSON, S.D. - Kathryn (Beauchemin) Double, 79, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Jefferson, died May 17, 1998, in Clearwater.

Services were held by Dunedin Chapel of Clearwater.

Peter E. Blom
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Peter Edwin Blom, 85, of Orange City died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Revs. Raymond E. Weiss, Leon Roggen and C. Orville Kool officiating. Burial will be prior to the service Saturday in West Lawn Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Blom was born Nov. 6, 1913, in rural Alton, Iowa, the son of John and Tillie (Van Es) Blom. He attended Newkirk (Iowa) High School, Northwestern College in Orange City and National Business Training School in Sioux City.

He married Margaret Oordt on Nov. 23, 1939, in Newkirk. The couple lived in Sioux City for a few years, where he was an accountant. They then lived in Newkirk for several years. In 1947, they moved to Hull, Iowa, where he was engaged in the implement business and later employed with Kooiker Manufacturing. In 1958, they moved to Orange City, where he sold Pioneer Seeds and farmed. He retired in 1979. They wintered in Arizona for 20 years.

He was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, where he served as deacon, treasurer and elder. He was a former member of First Reformed Church in Hull. He also was a member of Orange City Planning and Zoning Commission for 20 years. He enjoyed singing in barbershop quartets.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Mary Lou and Vernon Bomgaars of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Carol and Kim Spradling of Maryville, Mo.; four grandchildren, Rachel and Brent Bomgaars and Ian and Sarah Spradling; and two sisters, Edna Roggen of Bella Vista, Ark., and Anna Lyftogt of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Reformed Church.

Robert E. Schultze
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Robert E. Schultze, 83, of Cherokee died Wednesday at Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, Iowa following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, with a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Richard Allen
CROFTON, Neb. - Richard Allen, 58, of Crofton died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton. Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. and a rosary at 7:45 p.m., at Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton.

Hattie Hinrichs
LITTLE ROCK, Iowa - Hattie Hinrichs, 87, of Little Rock died Thursday at Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m., at Bolin Funeral Home in Little Rock.

Leslie H. Baak
CHARTER OAK, Iowa - Leslie "Les" Herman Baak, 86, of Charter Oak died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak.

Mr. Baak was born Jan. 19, 1912, in Wolsey, S.D., the son of Herman and Marie (Penker) Baak. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended rural school near Wolsey. He was employed as a driver for wholesale grocery stores in Sioux City.

He married Leone Hinrichsen on Feb. 6, 1938, in Charter Oak. The couple lived in Sioux City briefly, before moving to the Ute, Iowa, area and farming. In 1950, they purchased their farm near Berne, Iowa. They retired in 1978 and moved to Charter Oak. She died in 1990.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where he served in various offices. He was also a member of Lutheran Layman's League and Aid Assocaiation for Lutherans. He enjoyed refinishing and repairing furniture and caning chairs.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Darrell and Charlotte of Rapid City, S.D., Larry and Nancy of Urbandale, Iowa, and Arlyn and Susan of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter and her husband, Cheryl and John Smith of Pocahontas; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Viola Green of Talent, Ore.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Helmut and Herbert; and two sisters, Carolyn and Rose.

Carlton Van Peursem
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Carlton Gerald Van Peursem, 87, of Orange City died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Revs. David Ter Beest and Steven Vander Molen officiating. Burial will be prior to the service Saturday in Sherman Township Cemetery, rural Maurice, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 12:15 p.m. Saturday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a Masonic service at 8:15 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Van Peursem was born March 20, 1911, near Maurice, the son of Martin and Anna (Duven) Van Peursem. He graduated from Maurice High School in 1928. After farming for two years, he received his degree in mathematics in 1934 from Morningside College in Sioux City. He then taught school in Shelby, Iowa.

He married Vida Aschenbrenner on June 27, 1935. He taught school in Glenwood, Primghar, Audubon and Laurens, Iowa. In 1952, he began farming near Woodstock, Minn. He returned to teaching including 10 years at Fulda, Minn. She died Jan. 15, 1974. He retired in 1976, and moved to Maurice. In 1977, he moved to Orange City.

He married Neva (Phipps) Buckwalter on April 2, 1984. The couple lived in Orange City.

He was a member of First Reformed Church and Floyd Masonic Lodge 537 of Orange City. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Gerald and Wilma of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Stanley and Linda of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren, Cheryl Ritter, Nancy Rankin, Janelle Erickson, Dustin Van Peursem and Heather Folks; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two stepsons, Dan Thompson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Gary Thompson of Detroit, Mich.; three stepgrandchildren; and three sisters, Nelvye Sallie of Sioux Falls, S.D., Marguerite Barber of Portland, Ore., and Bernice Spark of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd.
