William C. Beckman
William C. Beckman, 69, of Sioux City died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at his residence.

Memorial services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Dillinger officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with a rosary said by the Catholic Daughters of America at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mr. Beckman was born May 5, 1928, in Sioux City. He attended Sioux City schools and Morningside College. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

He married Mildred Wiechelman on March 4, 1946, in Hartington, Neb. He was employed as a realtor and antique dealer.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, William O. and Mary Jo of Huxley, Iowa and Dr. Robert and Lisa of Muskegon, Mich.; two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Rick White of Sioux City and Patricia and Todd Feese of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and eight grandchildren, Annie, Liz, Melissa, Emily and Kristin Beckman, Jonathan and Matthew Beckman and Alex Feese.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mollie (Moe) Noakes and his grandparents, who raised him, Olav and Jennie Moe.

Ramone J. Burnett, 93, of Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday; Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home.

Rose M. DuVal
ONAWA, Iowa - Rose Mariam (Hadden) DuVal, 64, of Onawa died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran church in Onawa, with the Rev. Steven C. Hetzel officiating. Burial will be in Jordan Cemetery at Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a pryaer service at 7 p.m., at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mrs. DuVal was born May 13, 1933, in Jordan Township, near Soldier, the daughter of Roy and Mariam (Carritt) Hadden. She graduated from Soldier High School in 1951. She attended Iowa State University, Wayne State College, Northwest Missouri State College and graduated from Morningside College on Aug. 20, 1970, with a bachlor of science degree in elementary education and library science.

She married Larry DuVal on Aug. 15, 1954, in Soldier. She taught in Glenwood, Madrid, Red Oak and Soldier, Iowa, before teaching fifth and sixth grade math for 26 years at Maple Valley School in Mapleton, Iowa.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she was treasurer and belonged to the evening circle. She was also a member of the Jordan Sunshine 4-H Club, the Monona County and Woodbury County Genealogical Society, the Iowa Genealogical Society, the Northwest Iowa Computer Genies, the National Education Association, the Iowa State Education Association, the Maple Valley Teachers Association, the Iowa Decorative Painters and the Crossroads Chapter of the National Society of Tole and Decorative Painters, Inc. She was a 4-H project leader for Monona County.

Survivors include her husband; three sons and their wives, David and Deborah of Ankeny, Iowa, Dean and JoAnn of Kobe, Japan and Dale and Julie of Ashton, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Diane and Dan Foss of Onawa; 12 grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Ruth and Harley Beall of Sioux City; her mother-in-law, Geneva DuVal of Tabor, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Don and Darlene Hadden of Castana, Iowa; and two brothers-in-law and their wives, Jay and Sharon DuVal of Huntington Beach, Calif. and Bruce and Esta DuVal of Tabor, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Dorothy Eischen
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Dorothy Eischen, 85, of Cherokee died Saturday at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery at Maryhill, Iowa. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m., at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Charles L. Ewoldt
STORM LAKE, Iowa - Charles Lee Ewoldt, 70, of Storm Lake died Sunday at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Correctionville, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m., at the church. Barker Funeral Home of Alta, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Russell E. Hultgren
IDA GROVE, Iowa - Russell E. "Russ" Hultgren, 81, of Ida Grove died Sunday at the Morningside Rehabilitation and Care Center in Ida Grove.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. Burial will be in Ida Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Marian H. Isom
DANBURY, Iowa - Marian H. Isom, 62, of Danbury died Sunday at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Danbury Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cushing, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will resume from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home of Ida Grove is in charge of the arrangements.

Jerry Kenney
LE MARS, Iowa - Jerry Kenney, 61, of Carson City, Nev., formerly of Le Mars, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, in Carson City.

Services and burial where held in Carson City.

Mr. Kenney was born Jan. 18, 1936, in Le Mars, the son of Pat and Florence (Keegan) Kenney. He attended school in the Le Mars and Remsen, Iowa area.

He married Gay Swetman. He was employed as a detective on the Los Angeles Police Department for 20 years. He was currently employed as head of security for the Nevada State Capitol Legislature in Carson City.

He served in the U.S. Marines Corps.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jim of Ventura, Calif.; a daughter, Kathleen Hughes of Reno, Nev.; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Tom Letsche of Remsen and P. Wayne Kenney of Rapid City, S.D.

Albert Kuiper
SANBORN, Iowa - Albert "Bert" Kuiper, 79, of Sanborn died Saturday at the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Christian Reformed Church in Sanborn. Private family burial will be in Roseland Cemetery prior to the service. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Sanborn Funeral Home.

Beulah E. Onnen
WHITING, Iowa - Beulah E. (Pilcher) Onnen, 72, of Whiting, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at a Onawa, Iowa hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Craig Mellendorf, pastor of Central Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Onnen was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Milo, Mo., the daughter of Thomas and Nettie (Douglas) Pilcher.

She married Lloyd Walter Onnen on July 3, 1955, in Nogalis, Mexico. He died Dec. 24, 1996, in Onawa. She was employed at Zenith Radio Corporation in Sioux City, until it's closing. The couple owned and operated a grocery store in Climbing Hill, Iowa, then owned and operated a restaurant and bowling alley in Hornick, Iowa. She then was a nursing assistant at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting until retiring. She had also lived in Luton, Iowa.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Robert D. and Diana Pilcher of Omaha, Neb.; two grandchildren, Shelly Prall and Robert A.T. Pilcher; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Pilcher; two brothers, Joseph and Olin Pilcher; and two sisters, Luada Menard and Margaret Barger.

Pallbearers will be Rob Pilcher, Brad Prall, Tom and Milford Menard, Gary Petz, Wally Onnen, Jewel Ferdig and George Douglas.

Steven B. Selk
SUTHERLAND, Iowa - Steven B. Selk, 44, of Gelena, Ill., formerly of Sutherland, died Saturday at his residence.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina, Iowa. Burial will be in Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland. There will be no visitation.

Evelyn Sitzmann
LE MARS, Iowa - Evelyn Sitzmann, 83, of Le Mars died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church-Neptune at rural Hinton, Iowa, with the Rev. Mark Stoll officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery-Neptune. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary said by the Catholic Daughters of America at 4 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mrs. Sitzmann was born March 16, 1914, in Le Mars, the daughter of John and Ethel (Franklin) Becker. She was raised near Le Mars and graduated from Central High School in Le Mars.

She married Venard Sitzmann on Oct. 10, 1938, in Le Mars. The couple farmed in the Kingsley, Iowa, in Elkhorn Township. He died in 1979. She moved to Le Mars in 1991.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Cheryl and Ron Wiltgen of Le Mars; two sons, Wendell of Le Mars and Lew and his wife Jean of Kingsley; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Becker.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ryan, Robb, Rik and Erik Wiltgen, Greg and Matt Sitzmann.

A memorial will be established in her name with Life Skills Training Center, Inc.

Alvin Zenk
SIBLEY, Iowa - Alvin Zenk, 72, of Sibley died Sunday at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sibley. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., a rosary at 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 8 p.m., at the Walton, Roste and Vogel Funeral Home in Sibley.

Clyde L. Ballard
Clyde L. Ballard, 74, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, in Sierra Vista.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Village Meadows Baptist Church in Sierra Vista.

Mr. Ballard was born Jan. 18, 1923, in South Sioux City, the son of Etna E. and Mabel E. Ballard. He attended Sioux City Public Schools and the National Electronics School in Chicago.

He served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II.

He married Grace Legan in July 1957, in South Sioux City.

Mr. Ballard was employed by the Department of Land Management on the west coast and later transferred to the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Parker, Ariz. Following his retirement, he worked for the Arizona Zoning and Planning Commission in Cochise County for several years.

He was a member of Village Meadows Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a stepson and his wife, Larry and Cheryl Legan of Sierra Vista; a sister and her husband, Hazel and Jay Frazeur of Sioux City; and seven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl M. amd Wayne F. Ballard.

Harry B. Belding
Harry B. Belding, 70, of North Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thurs day at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Glenn Schacht officiating. The body will be cremated. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Berkemier Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 6 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church.

Mr. Belding was born Feb. 14, 1927, in Sioux City, the son of Harry E. and Mable (Johnson) Belding. He attended Sioux City Public Schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Topeka.

He married Joan Waggoner on Dec. 9, 1954, in Sioux City.

He was employed with Guarantee Roofing Company for several years before joining the Sioux City Police Department. He was a patrol officer and was on the K-9 Unit from 1953 to 1967. He was then employed with Sioux City Truck Sales Company as a parts manager for 20 years, after which he operated Belding Process Service.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Rick and Lori of Sioux City; two daughters, Ronda and her husband, Mike D'Amato, and Barbara McDermott, all of Sioux City; three sisters and their husbands, Mardella and Jerry Wilson and Connie and Danny Caster, all of Sioux City, and Pam and Bob Cottrell of Alcester, S.D.; eight grandchildren, Jamie and Nick Lewis, Lindsey D'Amato, Brent and Nicole Belding and Travis, Adam and Ryan McDermott; and seven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harold, Denny and Eddie Belding.

Pallbearers will be members of the Sioux City Police Department.

Nancy D. Craig
Nancy D. (Butcher) Craig, 62, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, in Wheat Ridge, Colo.

Private services were held in Denver.

Mrs. Craig was born Oct. 3, 1935, in Sioux City. She graduated from East High School in 1954.

She was employed as an executive secretary.

She was a member of The Mother Church, the First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston, Mass., and the Sixth Church of Christ Scientist in Denver.

Survivors include two daughters, Lauri D. and Virginia L. Craig, both of Denver; a brother, Allen Butcher of Mercer, Wis.; and two grandchildren.

Mildred M. Keil
Mildred M. Keil, 86, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday at First Christian Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visit ation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Nelson-Berger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Keil was born Sept. 2, 1911, in Castana, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Ora (Simpson) Grant.

She married S. Gifford Keil on Aug. 14, 1938, in Canton, S.D. He died June 15, 1983.

She was employed as a music teacher with the South Sioux City Public Schools before teaching third grade at Crescent Park Elementary School.

She was a member of First Christian Church, where she was an elder and active in Christian Women's Fellowship and the choir. She was an organist for Whitfield United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church and First Christian Church. She was a member of the Organist Guild and the Sioux City Chorus for many years.

Mrs. Keil was a volunteer at the St. Luke's Gift Shop. She enjoyed traveling and participated in Elder Hostel activities.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Priscilla and Dave Alfredson of Sioux City and Sharlene and Roger Johnson of Sergeant Bluff; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Myrtle Larson of South Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger and Vern Polly.

Memorials may be directed to Frist Christian Church.

Mary L. Little
Mary Louise Little, 67, of Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Sitzmann, chaplain at Marian Health Center, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Little was born July 28, 1930, in Adaza, Iowa, the daughter of Patrick "Lawrence" and Minnie G. (Kelly) Mackey. She moved with her family to Sioux City in 1942.

She married Russell W. Little on Nov. 22, 1948, in Sioux City.

She was employed as a nurses' aid at St. Joseph Hospital for several years and later at the Ingleside Nursing Home until retiring in 1975.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Larry and Vicki of Sioux City; two daughters, Gertrude "Sis" Gee and Karen and her husband, Jim Foster, all of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Betty Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Foster, Russell and Donald Little, Paul Desy, Wilmer Johnson and Jeff Duerkson.

Kenneth Rogers II
Kenneth E. Rogers II, 46, of Sioux City died Friday at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Rosie J. Roost
Rosie J. Roost, 92, of Dakota City died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thurs day at Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Gary Klatt officiating. Burial will be in Silver Ridge Cemetery at rural Ponca, Neb. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Mrs. Roost was born Dec. 17, 1905, in Wynot, Neb., the daughter of John T. and Rose J. (Riibe) Johns. She was raised in the Wynot area.

She married Otto Roost on March 9, 1927, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple farmed in Thurston and Dakota counties in Nebraska. He died Dec. 3, 1948, in Newcastle, Neb. She then moved to Dakota City.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons, Dewayne of Tennessee Ridge, Tenn., and Clifford and his wife, Nina, of Dakota City; four daughters, Doris and her husband, Sylvester Beckman, of Mission, Texas, Leona Porter of South Sioux City, Joyce Rechkemmer of Pittsburg, Mo., and Yvonne and her husband, Charles Emmons, of Hubbard, Neb.; a son-in-law, Ray Severson of Emerson, Neb.; two daughters-in-law, Donna Roost of Greshan, Ore., and Delores Roost of Shepherd, Texas; 40 grandchildren; 121 great-grandchildren; and 35 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Louis and James; a daughter, Threasa Severson; two grandchildren, Daniel Engel and Faben Roost; two brothers, George and Emil Johns; and two sisters, Lucille Miller and Pearl Sorenson.

Pallbearers will be Kelvin Graves, Rick Engel, David Roost, Steven Emmons, Larry Severson and Noah Porter.

Beulah Webb

Beulah Webb, 102, founder and first executive director of the Siouxland Senior Center, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Matney Westside Manor.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thurs day at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The Rev. Marvin J. Boes will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mrs. Webb was born Jan. 27, 1895, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Jackson and Nancy (Walden) Williams.

She married Charles E. Webb in June 1922. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1924. He died in December 1968.

She first became active in community affairs in 1927, when she organized the Hour of Pleasure Club which promoted civic, cultural and educational activities and the development of a well-rounded social life.

She also was a founder of the Booker T. Washington Club and served on the board when it became the Sanford Community Center. She also served on the boards of the Mary Treglia Community House, Red Cross, YWCA and Girl Scouts. She was a charter member of the Wall Street Mission, associate director of the Sioux City USO during World War II and served as president of the Woodbury County Council on Aging.

In 1971, she was named by Iowa Gov. Robert Ray to the White House Commission on Aging and was assigned to the commission's housing committee.

She was the recipient of many honors and awards, including the Rotary Club's Service Above Self Award, the Kiwanis Club's Outstanding Citizenship Award, the Governor's Leadership Award, Briar Cliff College's Community Service Award and the Women of Excellence Award sponsored by Women Aware. She was named Iowa's Outstanding Senior Citizen at the 1974 Iowa State Fair and was inducted into the Iowa Women's Hall of Fame in August 1997.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Leah and Harold Bryson of Sioux City; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Thelma Warner; and a grandchild, Cynthia.

Calvin DeBuhr
ELLSWORTH, Minn. - Calvin DeBuhr, 84, of Ellsworth died Monday at Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Reformed Church in rural Ellsworth. Burial will be in Bethel Reformed Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Cleo D. Duryea
DAWSON, Neb. - Cleo D. Duryea, 94, of Dawson, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at her residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wherry Funeral Home in Humboldt, Neb. Visitation will be from 2 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Duryea was born Sept. 2, 1903, in Salem, Neb., the daughter of Charles and Helen Cooper.

She married Chester C. Duryea on March 25, 1921, in Abilene, Kan. The couple had lived in Sioux City from 1943 to 1949, then moved to Dawson, where they owned a grocery store for many years.

She was a member of the Methodist Church, the Eastern Star and the Crescent Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine "Kay" Haller; six grandchildren, Steve Haller, Debbie Sturzl, Barb Griffith, Patty Walters, Cathy McClary and Carrie Knapp; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles; her husband; and a son-in-law, Frank Haller.

Jeanette Larson
HAWARDEN, Iowa - Jeanette Larson, 94, of Hawarden died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Big Springs Baptist Church in rural Alcester, S.D., with the Rev. Daryl Runion officiating. Burial will be in Big Springs Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mrs. Larson was born July 21, 1903, in Union County in South Dakota, the daughter of Charles and Nannie (Erickson) Anderton. She was baptized in the Baptist faith. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1921 and taught for one year at Mount Hope Country School in Union County.

She married Aljie U. Larson on July 31, 1923, in Denver, Colo. The couple farmed in Union County until moving to Hawarden in 1955. He died in 1959. She entered Hass Hillcrest Care Center in January 1995.

She was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Loyle and Roxanne of Hawarden; two daughters, Phyllis Grotewold of Mesa, Ariz., and June and her husband, Richard Newman, of Alcester; a daughter-in-law, Thelma Larson of Humboldt, Iowa; a brother, Clifford Anderton of Alcester; a sister and her husband, Mary Ann and Herbert Johnson of Akron, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Aljie Jr.; a sister, Vernice Lundgren; and a brother, Milford Anderton.

Mildred M. Montgomery
CHEROKEE, Iowa - Mildred M. Montgomery, 96, of Cherokee died Sunday at her daughter's residence in Cherokee following a brief illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, with a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m., at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a Carnation Chapter 165 of the Order of the Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m., at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Michael J. Mullally
LE MARS, Iowa - Michael Joseph Mullally, 88, of Le Mars died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mr. Mullally was born April 30, 1909, in Ponca, Neb., the son of Thomas and Eleanor (Barrett) Mullally. He moved with his family to Fremont, Neb. He was raised in Fremont and graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic School.

He began his career as a professional boxer and was ranked first in the state. He was an accomplished pool player and had played against Willie Masconi and Minnesota Fats.

He married Marie Ann Hames on Oct. 2, 1939, in Le Mars. The couple operated several pool halls, including the Paramount in Le Mars. They also operated M&M Produce and later opened Eastside Restaurant and Catering, which they operated for several years. She died Jan. 9, 1979.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Michael P. and Judy, Ronald J. and Nancy and Thomas P. and Patty, all of Le Mars, and Lawrence T. and Jo Ellen of Storm Lake, Iowa; seven daughters and their husbands, Margene and Joe Geary of Hinton, Iowa, Susan and David "Rocky" Bunjes, Jo Ann and Dan Singer, Margaret and Dave Davis, Malea and Kim Penne and Laura and Dave Klave, all of Le Mars, and Karen and Michael Pommier of Winterset, Iowa; 43 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Art of Boston, Mass.; and two sisters, Cecelia and her husband, Louie Lombardi, of Orlando, Fla. and Marie Ladenburg of Burke, Va.

He was preceded in death by a son, Peter Thomas; and a granddaughter, Mariah Jean Davis.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Brian Singer, Pat Mullally, Michael Pommier Jr., Tom Mullally Jr., Michael "M.J." Mullally, Dan Bunjes, Ryan Klave and Susie Geary.

Rachelle L. Schmidt
IDA GROVE, Iowa - Rachelle L. Schmidt, 24, of Ida Grove died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Services were held Monday, Jan. 5, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. John Schauer and the Rev. Anderw Currao officiated. Burial was in Ida Grove Cemetery. Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home of Ida Grove was in charge of the arrangements.

Ms. Schmidt was born Sept. 30, 1973, in Ida Grove, the daughter of Richard and Judy (Heilman) Schmidt. She was raised in Ida Grove and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1992. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

She was employed with Ida Sheltered Industries in Battle Creek, Iowa. She enjoyed fishing, animals and going to the sale barn in Denison.

Survivors include her parents of Ida Grove; a brother, Kevin of Ida Grove; maternal grandmother, Sylvia Heilman of Ida Grove; and paternal grandmother, Bette Schmidt of Battle Creek.

She was preceded in death by three infant sisters, Nancy, Jacqueline and Kristina; an infant brother, Randall; maternal grandfather, John M. Heilman; and paternal grandfather, Richard Schmidt.

Pallbearers were Jeff Miesner, Troy Bengford, Nathan Heilman, Jamie Schmidt, Dustin Schiernbeck and Heath Hinkhouse.

Ruth Schneider
DENISON, Iowa - Ruth Schneider, 80, of Denison died Monday at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a Legion of Mary rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish wake service at 7 p.m., at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Duane Sullivan
SPENCER, Iowa - Duane "Sully" Sullivan, 78, of Spencer died Monday at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon today, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral chapel.

Henry W. Tammen
CRAIG, Iowa - Henry W. Tammen, 88, of Craig died Tuesday at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. Burial will be in St. John Evangelical Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Opal Tillotson
BATTLE CREEK, Iowa - Opal Tillotson, 72, of Battle Creek died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at Morningside Rehabilitation and Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, with Dr. Herb Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time today at the church. Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home of Ida Grove is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Tillotson was born July 31, 1925, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Hunter C. and Florence (Devine) Van Houten Jr. She graduated from Anthon, Iowa High School in 1942.

She was employed as a secretary with Erickson's Implement in Battle Creek.

She married Clifford B. Tillotson on Jan. 27, 1951, in Battle Creek. The couple farmed in Ida County until his death in 1988. She entered Morningside Rehab and Care Center in January 1996.

Survivors include four sons, Jeff and Burdette, both of Battle Creek, LeRoy of Kiron, Iowa, and Tilden of Nashville, Tenn.; and two brothers, LaVerne Van Houten and his wife, Lola, of Battle Creek and Arlo Van Houten of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Russell Van Houten.
