MARION RUTH HOWERY
Of Niles

A funeral service for Marion Ruth Howery, 80, of Niles, took place in early October. Interment took place at Ridgewood cemetery. Born in Wausau, Wis. on Dec. 2, 1923, Mrs. Howery served in the Navy. Mrs. Howery died Oct. 3 at her home. Mrs. Howery is survived by her husband, Donald L. Howery.

JOSEPH S. KOZIOL
Of Niles

A funeral service for Joseph S. Koziol, 83, of Niles, took place in early October at St. John Brebeuf Church. Interment took place at St. Adalbert cemetery. Born in Chicago on April 11, 1921, Mr. Koziol worked making tools and dyes. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Koziol died Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Resurrection Medical Center. Mr. Koziol is survived by his wife, Eleanore Koziol.

CHARLENE A. SIEPKA
School teacher

A funeral service for Charlene A. Siepka, 67, of Park Ridge, took place in early October at St. John Brebeuf Church. Interment took place at Maryhill cemetery. Born in Chicago on Nov. 28, 1936, Mrs. Siepka worked as a school teacher. She died Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Resurrection Medical Center. Mrs. Siepka is survived by her husband, Len; sons, Mark, Scott (Peggy); daughter, Kim (John) Nale; and five grandchildren.

KENNETH W. SHEEHAN
Of Niles

A funeral service for Kenneth W. Sheehan, 68, of Niles, was held in the Skaja Terrace Funeral Home on Oct. 7. Interment was in Memorial Park cemetery. A native of Chicago, he died Oct. 3 in St. Matthew Home. He was the owner-operator of a delivery service and was a veteran of U.S. Army service. Surviving are his widow, June O.; children, James (Jennifer) Clark and Sandra (Joe Benson) Elkins; grandchildren, Kevin and Meghan Clark; brothers-in-law, Robert Knudsen, Ronald Pales, and Jerry (Abbie) Niewiadowski; a nephew, Joseph (Amy) Niewiadomski; great-niece, Amanda Ordway; niece, April (Peter) Ordway; nephews, Kenneth and Michael Wieda; and brother-in-law, Michael (Janice) Wieda.

ROY J. REESE SR.
Retired Machinist

A very active member of Moose Lodge #660 and the father of four, Roy J. Reese Sr. passed away at his home Nov. 19 at the age of 64. Mr. Reese was a native of Morgantown, W. Va. and a resident of Des Plaines. Visitation was Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect, and interment was at Memory Gardens cemetery. Mr. Reese is survived by children, Lisa (Doug) Jameson, Roy J. Jr., Edward Russell ( Ericka) and Daniel (Christine) Reese, in addition to fiancee, Shirley Cox; and grandchildren, Laura, Brian, Megan, Erin, Melissa and Jacob. Surviving also are sisters Katie Eldred, Betty Dean and Louise Hoard. Mr. Reese was preceded in death by brothers Arthur and Ray.

ARLYNE J. KAISER
Park Ridge Native

Arlyne J. Kaiser, 89, died Nov. 14. Ms. Kaiser was sister to Joan (Henry A.) Scandrett and the late Betty (Neil) Gazel. Her nieces and nephews included Christine Ballard, Marcia (Stanley) Murton, Barbara (Stuart) Kauffman, Janet Hunt, Sherry (Daniel) Summers, Sandy (Will) Ellender and Charles (Sandra) Scandrett. Ms. Kaiser was employed prior to her retirement by Central Telephone Co. in Des Plaines and Raymond Wright Insurance in Park Ridge. Donations may be made to the Greater Illinois Alzheimer's Association in Skokie. Arrangments were handled by Cooney Funeral Home.

JOHN PAUL CARROLL
Age 62

Born Oct. 17, 1942 in Chicago, John Paul Carroll passed away Nov. 9 at Lutheran General Hospital. A service was held at St. Juliana Church before burial at Maryhill cemetery. Visitation was at Skaja Funeral Home in Niles. Mr. Carroll, an electrical engineer, was preceded in death by his father, William Carroll. He is survived by mother, Johanna; wife, Sandra V.; daughter Jackie; brother, Bill; and sister-in-law, Jean Graf.

HELEN S. IZYKOWSKI
Age 75

Helen S. Izykowski passed away Nov. 7 at Lutheran General Hospital. The Niles resident was born Dec. 30, 1928 in Chicago. Services were held at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles and St. John Brebeuf Church before burial at Maryhill cemetery. Mrs. Izykowski worked as a personnel director for AT & T. She leaves behind husband, John J.; and chilren, Andrea and John Michael; in addition to granddaughters, Emily and Ingrid Izykowski.

DOROTHY MARY DILLMAN
Des Plaines

Dorothy Mary Dillman passed away Nov. 14 at St. Matthew Lutheran Home. She was 81. Mrs. Dillman, who was a homemaker, was buried at Maryhill cemetery after services at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles and Our Lady Of Ransom Church. She was preceded in death by husband, Eugene Dillman; brothers, Bernard, Daniel, Edward, James, Lawrence and Thomas O'Connell; and sister, Margaret O'Connell. Surviving are her son, Floyd Dillman of Chicago; and sister, Rosemary O'Connell.

SOPHIE TRANCHITELLA
Of Niles

Mass was celebrated for Sophie Tranchitella, 89, of Niles at St. John Brebeuf Church. Interment was in Ridgewood cemetery. Tranchitella was born Dec. 8, 1914 in Chicago and passed away Oct. 3, 2004 in Resurrection Medical Center. Survivors include her son, Robert; and brother, Joseph Fedrick.

MARY KAPUSTKA
Park Ridge, 99

Services were held for Mary Kapustka, 99, Oct. 4 at St. Paul of the Cross. Interment was in St. Adalbert, 6800 N. Milwaukee. Kapustka, who was born March 6, 1905 in Poland, passed away Oct. 1, 2004 in Resurection Pavillion Nursing Center. Survivors include her son, Eugene (Janet); and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen; and her son, Norbert. Arrangements by Skaja Terrace Funeral Hoome, Niles.

LaVERNE COOPER
Age 76

Park Ridge resident LaVerne Cooper passed away Nov. 19. She was the wife of Wilmer Cooper for 54 years and the mother of Earl (Marie) Cooper and Kari (Ron) McKee. Mrs. Cooper is also survived by her grandchildren, Nichole, Kevin, Kyle, Ronald and Kristi, and was preceded in death by siblings, Arthur Splatt and Mitzi Bardo. Visitation took place Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

WILLIAM JOSEPH HAHN
Served in World War II

A memorial service for William Joseph Hahn, 83, a 44-year Glenview resident, was held Oct. 29 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Born Dec. 2, 1920, in Wilmette, Mr. Hahn passed away Oct. 22. He was a former resident of Wilmette and Morton Grove. Mr. Hahn attended St. Mary's College in Winona, Minn. for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Forces near the start of World War II. He served as a staff sergeant in the 462nd Bomb Group stationed in India, which flew missions over the Himalayas to China and Japan. Mr. Hahn then served in Tinian until the war's end. After completing his service, Mr. Hahn worked in the family insurance business, Hahn Agency, Inc., for 40 years, and retired as president. Two of his children, Robert J. Hahn and Marcia Johnson, are now owners of the firm.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and George (Therese) and his sister, Adeline. Mr. Hahn is survived by his wife, Charlotte (nee Langill), whom he married Sept. 20, 1947; his children, Julia (Richard) Medlock, William (Laurie), Charles (Lea), Elizabeth (Mark) Giffin, Marcia (Dale) Johnson, Robert (Kathy), Daniel (Kerry) and Marie (Daniel) Marks; his 17 grandchildren; a sister, Marguerite (Edward) Resch; his brothers, James (the late Sally), Richard (Barbara) and Robert; along with many nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Sister Paulanne's Needy Family Fund, 1775 Grove St., Glenview, IL 60025.

HUGH JOSEPH BRENNAN
World War II Veteran

A funeral Mass for Hugh Joseph Brennan, 85, of Glenview, was celebrated Nov. 12 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Interment in All Saints cemetery. Visitation took place at Cooney Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Born Mar. 31, 1919, Mr. Brennan passed away Nov. 8. He was a World War II Navy veteran having served in the South Pacific, and a member of the Tatler Post 973. Mr. Brennan was also past commander of Chicago Board of Education Post 471 and fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus, Brownson Council. He was a member of Chicago School Engineers Local 143 as well. Mr. Brennan is preceded in death by his brother, Rev. William V., C.M. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Mary (nee Oppenheim); his sisters, Margaret Mary (the late John) Robberson, Colette C. and Virginia Marie; his brother, Edward P. (Elsie); along with many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.

PATRICIA RUTH BALSAMO
She had a fantastic sense of humor

A funeral Mass for Patricia Ruth Balsamo (nee Dorynek), 68, of Hoffman Estates, formerly of Northbrook, was celebrated Nov. 15 at Queen of the Rosary Church. Interment was private. Visitation took place Nov. 14 at Grove Memorial Chapel. Born in Chicago, Mrs. Balsamo passed away peacefully Nov. 11 after a long illness. She was strong and spirited with a fantastic sense of humor. Mrs. Balsamo will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Dorynek and Ruth Litzow. Mrs. Balsamo is survived by her three daughters, Mary Alice (Isabella Wilson) Balsamo, Jeannine Balsamo and Sally (David Jagielski) Balsamo; her brother, John Dorynek; her twin sister, Marie Gonzalez (Davis); her grandchildren, Ian and Dante; and her many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WTTW Channel 11 Chicago.

BETTY ANN MEYER
Loved to entertain

A funeral Mass for Betty Ann Meyer (nee Smith), 74, of Melbourne Beach, Fl., formerly of Skokie and Northbrook, was celebrated Nov. 15 at St. Zachary Church in Des Plaines. Interment in All Saints cemetery. Visitation took place Nov. 13 at Oehler Funeral Home. Born Oct. 11, 1930, in Chicago, Mrs. Meyer passed away Nov. 10 in Viera, Fl. A homemaker, Mrs. Meyer was a great cook, who loved to entertain. She enjoyed gardening as well. Mrs. Meyer is preceded in death by her husband, Henry E. Meyer. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Dave) Meyer; her brothers, William M. (Pat), Robert E. (Mary Pat) and John J. (Linda); her nieces and nephews, Karen (Aaron) Gold, Susan (Paul) Collin, Robert Smith, Kelly (Randy) Dettloff, Jeanine (Craig) Stantesly, Kristine (Roger) Wise and Thomas Smith; along with her three great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.

J. RONALD MURRAY
Involved, warm gentleman; WWII Vet

A memorial service for J. Ronald Murray, 88, of Glenview, was held Nov. 22 at Church of the Holy Comforter in Kenilworth. Burial was private. Born June 9, 1916, in Minneapolis, Mr. Murray passed away Nov. 16 in Hospice of the North Shore in Skokie. He was a former resident of Kenilworth and Evanston. Mr. Murray was a merit scholar and graduate of Oak Park River Forest High School. In 1938 he graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Purdue he was in the ROTC and a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honorary Fraternity and the Triangle Fraternity, where he was president. He served in the U.S. Army for four years during World War II. Mr. Murray was the regional manager at Babcock and Wilcox in Chicago, where he worked for 42 years. He was also on the Board at Westmoreland Country Club and a senior warden at St. Matthew Episcopal Church in Evanston, and on the Vestry at Church of the Holy Comforter in Kenilworth.
He was a warm and outgoing gentleman, who loved golf, sailing, bowling and dancing. Mr. Murray loved his friends. He is survived by his wife, Marilynn Murray (nee Miller), whom he married Apr. 12, 1947; his children, William (Laura) Murray and James (Jean) Murray; and his grandchildren, Daniel, David, Carolyn and Nathan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Center, Hospice of the North Shore, 2821 Central St., Evanston, IL 60201, or to House of Welcome, North Shore Senior Center, 161 Northfield Rd., Northfield, IL 60093.

WALTER J. HIRSCH
POW In World War II

A memorial service for Walter J. Hirsch, 82, of Winnetka, will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 3 at the North Shore Senior Center. Born Oct. 11, 1922, in Chicago, Mr. Hirsch passed away Nov. 4. He grew up in Winnetka and graduated from New Trier High School and has since organized several reunions. The last one was his 64-year reunion held in October. Mr. Hirsch enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 after two years at Bradley Tech College. He became a pilot/co-pilot on a B26 Marauder airplane. He flew bombing missions in the Mediterranean over Sardinia and Corsica, and was shot down, injured and became a POW in September 1944. Mr. Hirsch was released from POW camp VIIA in Mooseburg, Germany on Apr. 29, 1945.
When he returned to Winnetka, Mr. Hirsch went to Roosevelt College and earned a degree in 1947. The day afterwards he was married . Mr. Hirsch worked in sales and founded Innovative Marketing in 1974. An active member of the North Shore Senior Center, he enjoyed Ravinia and golf and many longtime friends. He was a charter member of the B26 Marauder Historical Society. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Marge Abrahms. Mr. Hirsch is survived by his wife, Dori Strong, whom he married in 1980; his sons, Steven (Marianna) and James (Michelle); his two grandchildren, Michael and Claire; one stepson, Allen (Nancy) Strong; one step-daughter, Kimberlee Ann (Bill) Moir; and six step-children.

JOHN 'E. 'JACK' O'BRIEN, JR.
WWII Army Veteran

Mass for John E. "Jack" O'Brien, Jr., 82 will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 31 at St. Mary Church in Des Plaines. Visitation will be on Sunday, Jan. 30 at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St., Des Plaines. Mr. O'Brien died at Holy Family Medical Center on Jan. 26. Born on May 4, 1922, Mr. O'Brien was an electrician for Electrical Union Local 134, Chicago, for 35 years. He was a WWII Army Vet, a member of Des Plaines Elk Club #1526 and Northbrook Sportsman Club. He is survived by his wife, Rita A. (nee Cummings), brothers Dan and Don O'Brien and many nieces and nephews.
