Loretta C. Schnaubelt (nee Breen)
Loretta C. Schnaubelt, formerly of Elgin, IL, died peacefully in her home in So. Burlington, Vermont on Feb. 10, 2004 after a brief illness. She was born in Chicago on September 10, 1910 to Michael and Victoria Lohmiller Breen.
She graduated Chicago Teachers College and Loyola University, and taught second grade for eight years, and English Literature at Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park, IL. She particularly liked reading French and tutoring French students. She was a member of St. Thomas More Parish in Elgin, IL from 1971 to 1997. Loretta was an avid aviator as well as a teacher and homemaker. She began flying in 1933, became a licensed pilot in 1935, and was one of the early members of the National Women Pilots Association, the Ninety-nines. Her husband was a barn stormer and airline pilot, and they both belonged to the OX-5 Club of Illinois. Together they raised their family with frequent excursions into the sky in single engine planes, giving the children a special bird's eye perspective on life. Her son is a retired airline pilot, and her daughter is a teacher, married to a teacher. Three of her grandchildren are pilots. Three are educators. Loretta found many new friends in Vermont, and she relished her annual tours over Vermont in a Cessna 172, including last Fall's celebration of her 93rd birthday. She passes on her zest for life, her enthusiasm for learning, and her love of family and friends to all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, John and his wife Beth, of Lake Geneva, WI, and by her daughter Ann Earle, and her husband Peter, of Richmond, VT, and by 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded by her husband of 56 years, Jack Schnaubelt, in 1993, by a daughter Kathleen in 1982, and a son James in 1993.
A funeral mass was held in So. Burlington, VT on Thursday Feb. 12, 2004. Friends are welcome to join the family for an interment service at the River Valley Memorial Gardens in West Dundee, Illinois on June 23, 2004, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may go to Hospice of the Champlain Valley VNA, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446.

Arnie Powell
Arnie Powell, 88, of Elgin died Friday, June 8, 2001 in Rosewood Care Center.
He was born January 24, 1913 in Tiptonville, TN, the son of Willie and Minnie Powell.
He was been a resident of Elgin since 1945.
Surviving are two daughters, Juanita (Walter) Spann, Sr. of Schaumburg, IL and Jacquelyn Powell of Elgin; three step daughters, Josephine Washington of Chicago Heights, IL, Ruth (Ronald) Cowles of Chicago Heights, IL and Sally Evans of Chicago Heights, IL; a step son, Fred (Joleen) Evans of Park Forest, IL; five grandchildren, Michael (Sharlet) Spann, Walter Spann, Jr., Christopher Spann, Ricardo Spann and Tonya (Steve) Hames; four great grandchildren, Tracie Spann, Christian Spann, Sarah Spann and Ceczar Spann; a sister, Pearl Powell of Paducah, Kentucky; an aunt, Sylvester Clemons of Tiptonville, TN; a special sister, Laverne Johnson of Elgin; and many step grand and great grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents; his wife, Fannie in 1987; and a grandson, Robert David Spann.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11 AM in the Second Baptist Church with Rev. Shirley Hare officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery.
Friends may call in the Second Baptist Church of Wednesday from 9 AM until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Salvation Army.
Laird Funeral Home in Elgin is in charge of services.

Thelma K. Gilles (Herrin)
Thelma K. (Herrin) Gilles, 92, of Streamwood, IL passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2003. She was born March 13, 1911 in Black Rock, Arkansas.
She was a member of the Congdon Ave. Church of Christ. She is survived by her brother, L. B. Herrin, her nieces and nephews, Julia Nelson, Bill Ferro, Jack Herrin, Carol Ferguson, Mike Werden, Terry Ferro and many other nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ersle T.; her son, Wilbur; and her siblings, Lulu Groves, Opal Sniff, Pauline Herrin, Zemeru Snell, Ernest Smith and Harris Herrin.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 13 at 10:00 AM at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd (at Barrington Rd), Streamwood/Schaumburg with Rev. Shane Scott officiating. Interment will take place at Evergreen cemetery, Evergreen Park. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 12 from 3:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements made by Countryside Funeral Home. Violet L. Hesselbacher
Violet L. Hesselbacher, 87, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Monday, June 9, 2003 at the Galena Stauss Hospital, Galena, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, June 12, 2003 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Elizabeth with Reverend Harvey Nicholson officiating. Burial will be in Massbach cemetery, Massbach, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday, June 11 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. A memorial fund has been established in Violet's name for the Elizabeth Community Ambulance Service.
Violet was born September 26, 1915 in Guilford Township on the family farm, the daughter of Wilmer and Minnie (Wolford) Winter. She was a Galena High School Graduate. Violet married Ralph F. Hesselbacher February 15, 1936 in Galena, Illinois. He died July 28, 1978 in Rochester, Minnesota.
Violet was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Elizabeth. She was a homemaker and had farmed with her husband near Elizabeth. Violet especially loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilt piecing, canning, playing golf and euchre.
Survivors include three sons, Eugene (Vivian) of McConnell, Ronald of Penbroke Pines, Florida and Wayne (Lynne) of Elizabeth; two daughters, Verlee Kassel of Rockford and Kay Hesselbacher of Elgin; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Fred Winter of Scales Mound, Carl Winter and Clarence (Rita) Winter both of Galena; and five sisters, Helen Bell of Galena, Lucille Brown of Apple River, Mona Bodell of Hazel Green, WI, Virginia (Edmond) Berlage of Elizabeth, Sarah Werner of Scales Mound and Clara Westphal of Elizabeth. Violet is preceded in death by her husband; a son, Ralph Jr.; a brother, Michael; a son-in-law, David; and a daughter-in-law, Peggy.

Francis "Frank" J. Logue
Francis "Frank" J. Logue, age 65 of Streamwood. Francis was born January 20, 1938 in Chicago, and passed away June 9, 2003 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Loving father of Chris and Catey Logue of Marengo. Dear brother of Jerry (Mickey) of Streamwood and Edward (JoAnn) of Rolling Meadows. Dear partner of Jo-Anne Nelson and her loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ann.
Visitation will be at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 485 S. Bartlett, Streamwood, IL Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Friday, June 13 8:30 a.m. to St. John the Evangelist Church, Streamwood, Mass 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven cemetery, Hillside. Kathleen Rose Millard
Kathleen Rose Millard, 84, of Streamwood, IL passed away Monday, June 9, 2003. She was born November 1, 1918 in Owen, Wisconsin.
Kathleen was a retired school teacher for The Wisconsin Public School System where she worked for over 35 years.
She is survived by her son, Scott (Donna) Millard; three grandchilren, Laura, Courtney and Ashley; and her sister-in-law, Delores Linjer of Manawa, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar B. Linjer and Rose Nellie (nee Wing) Linjer and her husband, Laurence.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, June 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd (at Barrington Rd), Streamwood/Schaumburg. Burial will be at Rock Church cemetery, Livingston, WI. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 12 from 9:00 until the time of service at the funeral home. Herbert Ernst Pflueger
Herbert Ernst Pflueger, 72 of Elgin passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born July 10, 1930 the son of William and Erna Meldau Ernst. He had been a resident of Elgin all his life and was a graduate of Elgin High School Class of 1948. He was employed by School District U-46 for 21 years before retiring in 1996.
He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Elgin, and a past member of Carpenters Union Local 363 for 26 years. He had been a Boy Scout Leader of Troop #29 at Coleman School in Elgin for 14 years and had received the Order of The Arrow. He had been active with the Big Timber Dancers.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Fillmore Pflueger whom he married on June 23, 1951; a daughter, Patty (John) Blakely of Huntley; two sons, Craig (Peggy) Pflueger of Elgin and Gary (Peggy) Pflueger of Elgin; six grandchildren, Craig Pflueger, Jr., Christy Pflueger, Nichole (Jake) Pflueger-Bennett, Theo (Rita) Davis, Richard and Ryan Blakely; a great-grandson, Norman (Virginia) Pflueger of Gold Canyon, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Ernst; his mother, Erna Ernst Pflueger; his step-father, Ernest Pflueger; and his brother, Heins Pflueger.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 13, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division St., Elgin with Rev. Olin Sletto officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services in the church. Memorials may be given to The Foundation Fighting Blindness, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, The American Lung Association or the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois.

Loretta H. Schumacher
Loretta H. Schumacher, 86, of rural Maple Park, IL passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin, where she had made her home in recent months. After many battles with declining health, Loretta was released in peace to the Heavenly home.
She was born March 17, 1917, in Delavan, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Behnke) Feabrance.
When Loretta was a child, her family moved to Elgin, IL where she grew up and attended public schools.
On June 1, 1935, she was united in marriage to Arthur F. Schumacher and they made their hoem in Elgin for several years. Moving to rural Maple Park in 1941 they became members of St. John's Lutheran Church, Burlington, IL.
She loved gardening and enjoyed the beautiful outdoors. Loretta was especially fond of Cardinals and learned to imitate their call. A devoted wife and mother, she also enjoyed the pleasure of sewing and creative stitchery.
Loretta had a soft spot for animals and was dearly fond of Mochey, Lucky and Rusty. Mochey was a pony who provided hours of riding fun for the Schumacher children and grandchildren. "Lucky" was was, ironically, the family's hapless German Shepherd who followed Loretta everywhere and Rusty was the trusty family cat.
She is survived by four children, Shirley (Cliff) Gahlbeck of Burlington, IL, Gordon (Sandra) Schumacher of Scandinavia, WI, Larry Schumacher of Elgin and Linda Schumacher of Maple Park; eight grandchildren, Steve (Linda) Gahlbeck of Burlington, Mike (Crystal) Gahlbeck of Genoa, Greg (Mary) Schumacher and Sherrie (Greg) Seuubert both of Wisconsin, Gary (Mary) Schumacher of Michigan, Keith (Cory) Getzelman of Illinois, Kevin Getzelman and Trish (LeJon) Meteer both of California; thirteen great-grandchildren, Andrew and Adam Gahlbeck, Samantha, Katie and Joshua Gahlbeck, Jon, Brandon, Justin and Bryan Schumacher, Austin Getzelman and Jordon, Carson and Peyton Getzelman; one former daughter-in-law, Peggy (nee Becklinger, Schumacher) Getzelman; one brother-in-law, Warren Schumacher of TN and one sister-in-law, Helen Lichtardt of Elgin, IL. In addition, Loretta leaves behind a family of friends, among whom are many members of the staff at Rosewood Care Center. Loretta was especially blessed by her roommate, Helen Stiffic. Helen was truly Loretta's "Guardian Angel", and the two became very close friends. Through the bright days and dark nights, they shared both prayers and memories together.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur (1991) and one son, Roger Lee Schumacher; four siblings, Margaret, Mary, Charles and Bud Feabrance as well as several siblings in infancy.
A memorial visitation will be held at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, Saturday, June 14, 2003 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. Howard Gleason, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Burlington, IL will officiate and committal services conclude at Baker cemetery, Rt. 47, Plato Twp.
Memorials in her memory may be made to the family and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, IL 60119.

Una E. Benson
Una E. Benson, age 85, of Venora, Wisconsin, formerly Algonquin, died on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at the Four Winds Manor, Venora, Wisconsin. She was born on August 31, 1918 in Plymouth, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Steele.
Mrs. Benson was a resident of Elgin, Illinois for 25 years. She and her husband Russell belonged to the Lords and Ladies Square Dance Club. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, Illinois.
She is survived by a son, Richard (Kristine) Benson of Algonquin, Illinois; a daughter, Sharon Whitehurst of Wausau, Wisconsin; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Mary Steele; her husband, Russell Benson in January 1990; a son, John (Carol) Benson; a grandson Christopher Benson, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
A Memorial Service will be held at a at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. 357 Division St. Elgin, IL. Saturday June 19th, at 1:00pm. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Church or the American Diabetes Assoc.

Shawna Lynn Morris Henk
Shawna Lynn Morris Henk, of Chicago, died Monday, June 7, 2004 in Chicago following a tragic vehicle accident.
Eight days before her death, Shawna married her true love, Gregory Henk. The marriage ceremony was a testimony to the creative, loving, and caring person that Shawna was. Shawna and Greg celebrated their marriage surrounded by loving and devoted parents, sisters, other family members and close friends. Participating in the ceremony was their energetic Yorkie, Maximillian, the ring bearer at the wedding.
Shawna was born August 7, 1974 in Belleville, IL, to Debbie and Duane Morris. She graduated from Belleville Township High School East in 1992 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Fashion Merchandising from Rosary College in River Forest, IL in 1996. She had worked as a manager of Hancock Fabrics for eight years, where she could share her talents in sewing and crafting. Most recently, she worked for Mack and Assoc. of Chicago. Her most recent energies were focused on planning every detail of their unique wedding as well as decorating the home she and her husband would share together.
Shawna is survived by her husband, Greg Henk, a native of Elgin, IL; her parents, Debbie Morris and Duane Morris of Fairview Heights, IL; her sisters, Kara (Derek) Borgsmiller of St. Joseph, MO and Annie Morris; her maternal grandmother, Ruby Bradley; two aunts, Paula Corbin and Claudia Rynkowski, all of Fairview Heights, IL; and one uncle, Bobby Corbin of Lutz, FL.
Funeral arrangements, being handled by Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home of Joliet, IL, are incomplete. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
