David Schroeder

Services for David H. Schroeder, 61, of Kankakee, were held July 25 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Kankakee. Rev. Walter Griesmeyer officiated.
Mr. Schroeder died July 21, 2002.
Burial was in Danforth cemetery. Pallbearers were Dennis Millirons, Phil Kambic, Dick Diepeveen, Bill Dion, Roy Wilkin and Darik Rademacher.

Trent Griffith
high school athletic director

DIETERICH -- Trent W. Griffith, 25, of Dieterich, athletic director at Crescent City High School, died Tuesday (July 23, 2002) from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, three milies south of Dieterich, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Joe Briseno will officiate.
Burial will be in Dieterich Village cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Trent Griffith Scholarship Fund.
Wright Funeral Home, Dieterich, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Griffith was a teacher, coach and athletic director at Crescent City High School.
He was born May 7, 1977, in Effingham, the son of Burl and Audrey Weiffenbach Griffith.
Suriviving besides his parents of Dieterich are one brother, Ty Griffith of Dieterich; and one sister, Tori Griffith of Dieterich.
His grandparents are deceased.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Teutopolis.

Vonnie Henshaw
X-ray technician

PEOTONE -- Vonnie D. Henshaw, 67, of Peotone, died Thursday (July 25, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Manteno, where he was a member. Rev. Earl Larson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Peotone cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Manteno.
Mr. Henshaw was a retired X-ray technician at Manteno State Hospital.
He was born Oct. 29, 1934, in Harrisburg, Ill., the son of Ernest and Pearl Jenkins Henshaw. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dolores Strubhar, whom he married Aug. 12, 1956, in Peotone; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Timothy and Linda Henshaw and Kevin Henshaw, all of Peotone; one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Jeff Benoit of Lowell, Ind.; six grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Charles and Phyllis Henshaw of Manteno, Dean Henshaw of Vienna, Ill., Carl and Mary Henshaw of Mesa, Ariz., Garry and Donna Henshaw of Marquette, Mich.; and one sister and brother-in-law, Floetta and Jesse Hill of Golconda.

Helene Konecki

WATSEKA -- Helene C. Konecki, 84, of Watseka, died today (July 26, 2002) at Magnolia Woods Healthcare Center, Watseka.
Arrangements are pending at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka.

Mabel Krapf
teacher

MANHATTAN -- Mabel A. Krapf, 92, of Manhattan Township, died today (July 26, 2002).
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Forsythe Funeral Chapel, Manhattan, and from 10:30 a.m. Monday until the 11 a.m. services at the Green Garden United Methodist Church. Rev. Penny Hoffman will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Garden Greenview cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Green Garden United Methodist Church or Manhattan Library.
Mrs. Krapf taught in the Peotone School District and led the Green Garden Snip 'n Snack 4-H Club, which she founded.
She was born on her father's farm in Green Garden Township and had been a lifelong resident.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Dorita Krapf of Wilton Township; and two grandchildren, Alexis and Skyler.
Her parents, John and Lulu Pfeifer Stauffenberg; her husband, Norman Krapf; and one sister, Edith Barr, are deceased.
She had served the community in many capacities through her church, Green Garden United Methodist, the Manhattan Library Board and the Will County Home Extension.

Lois McAloon
former magazine publisher

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Lois Ann Mattingly McAloon, 56, of Michigan City, Ind., and a former area resident, died Wednesday (July 17, 2002) of cancer.
A funeral Mass was celebrated July 20 at Notre Dame Catholic Church. Rev. Richard Ameling officiated.
Mrs. McAloon was a former publisher of "Pet Pourri" magazine.
She was born Sept. 14, 1945, the daughter of Thomas and Kathryn Yanasko Mattingly. Her father died in 1988.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth McAloon, of Michigan City; one son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Christine McAloon of Michigan City; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Todd Peterson of Crystal Lake, Ill.; her mother, of Bradley Royale Health Care Center; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Kay and John Eickoff of Tamarac, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Bishop McNamara High School.

Rose Miller

MONTICELLO -- Rose L. Miller, 96, of Monticello, formerly of the Cissna Park area, died Monday (July 22, 2002) at the Piatt County Nursing Home in Monticello.
Services were held July 25 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Monticello, where she was a member.
Graveside services were held at Trinity Lutheran cemetery, Cissna Park.
Mrs. Miller was born April 15, 1906, in Cissna Park, the daughter of Henry and Emma Paul Schumacher.
Her first husband, Martin Miller, whom she married Jan. 24, 1926, in Ash Grove, died Dec. 22, 1974. She later married Fred Miller in Sandwich, Ill. on December 13, 1981. He died on May 18, 1992.
Surviving are five daughters, Arlene Warnock of South Daytona Shores, Fla., Viola Olsen and Evelyn Thomas, both of Sheridan, Wyo., Carol Clark of Anchor Point, Alaska and Janet Shonkwiler of Bement; one stepson, Leroy Miller of Sandwich; one stepdaughter, Mary Underwood of Sandwich; 19 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bertha Koester of Gilman, Clara Hofer and Velma Cluver, both of Cissna Park.
Two daughters, four sisters and one brother are deceased.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the Cissna Park American Legion Auxiliary and the Love Circle.

Relmond Norris

Relmond H. Norris, 81, of Bourbonnais, died Tuesday (July 23, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Graveside services will be held in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Elwood.
Mr. Norris was a meat cutter for Eckerts Brothers Company for 35 years.
He was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Pinckneyville, the son of Ira E. and Mable Huggins Norris.
He married the former Florence M. Diamond Jan. 29, 1945 in England.
Surviving are one sister, Nancy Kincaid of Duquoin; and one brother, Kenneth Norris of Duquoin.
One brother, Norman D. Norris, is deceased.
Mr. Norris was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
He enjoyed hiking in his early years.

CaNisha Vanderbilt

CaNisha Marie Vanderbilt, 12, of Bloomington, and the relative of area residents, died Saturday (July 20, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee, from injuries received in an auto accident.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday until the 11 a.m. services at the Second Baptist Church, Kankakee. Rev. Tyler Prude will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Jones Funeral Home, Kankakee, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born March 25, 1990.
Surviving are her parents, William Vanderbilt of Joliet and Connette Henderson of Bloomington; one sister, Yakiena Green of Bloomington; two brothers, Kashus Vanderbilt of Kankakee and Santana Vanderbilt of Joliet; maternal grandmother, Corine Burke; paternal grandmother, Louise Vanderbilt; and uncle and aunt, Larry and Candace Grandberry; one cousin; and special friend, Jasmine Peters.
Her paternal grandfather, William Vanderbilt and great-aunt, Loretta Whitelow, are deceased.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bloomington.
She enjoyed dancing, drawing and listening to music.

Vera Voigt

BONFIELD -- Vera Mae Voigt, 87, of Bonfield, died Thursday (July 25, 2002) at her daughter's home.
Arrangements are pending at Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, Kankakee.

William Wilken

DANFORTH -- William F. "Bill" Wilken, 90, of Danforth, died Thursday (July 25, 2002) at the Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth after a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman, and from 10 a.m. Monday until the 11 a.m. services at St. John's Lutheran Church, Danforth, where he was a member. Rev. James Gerth will officiate.
Burial will be in the Danforth cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Danforth, Prairieview Lutheran Home, Danforth, ShowBus of Kankakee, Provena St. Mary's Dialysis Center, Kankakee or Iroquois Memorial Hospice, Watseka.
Mr. Wilken farmed west of Ashkum, retiring in 1976.
He was born Sept. 10, 1911, in White, S.D., the son of Harm G. and Margaret Gerken Wilken. His parents are deceased.
His wife, the former Hilda Sparenberg, whom he married May 26, 1936 at the home of the bride's parents, died May 22, 2000.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Elsie and Dennis Evelsizer of Forrest, Linda and Steve Sweeney of Manteno; five grandsons, Joel and Tammy Evelsizer of Fairbury, Jason and Jodi Evelsizer of Champaign, Nathan and Jenny Sweeney of Grayslake, Ryan and Stephanie Sweeney of Wheaton, Aaron Sweeney of Champaign; four great-grandchildren, Mark, Leah, Alex and Morgan Evelsizer; and one sister, Margaret Peters of Clifton.
One son, Billy Wilken; and seven brothers, Eibe, Henry, Sebo, Herman, George, John and Eino Wilken; and four sisters, Mary Schriefer, Lena Sjuts, Minnie Sjuts and Hannah Tammen, are deceased.
He moved from South Dakota to Illinois in 1912. He lived in Papineau from 1938-1945, then in Ashkum from 1945-1976 and then in Danforth from 1976-2002.
He was raised in rural Danforth and attended Danforth schools.
He was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Lutheran Brotherhood of the church and past church council member and president.
