Betty C. Gerards
Betty C. Gerards, 72, of Wadsworth died Thursday, September 12, 2002 as a result of an auto accident.
She was born February 1, 1930 in York, PA and came to Illinois for basic training in the Navy where she met and married Fritz Gerards on May 2, 1953. She was employed by the Globe Department Stores until they closed.
She is survived by her four children, Jackie (Karl) Stever of Germany, Patricia (Jerry) Mauser of Wadsworth, Joseph of Lindenhurst, Mary Jo (Hiram) Bryant Jr. of Waukegan; her sister, Shirley (Kenneth) Bowman; her sister-in-law, Joanna Berwager of Hanover, PA; three grandchildren, three step grandchildren; a great grandson; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz in 1969; her parents, Russell and Stella Berwager; and a brother, Russell Berwager.
Funeral Services will be held at MARSH FUNERAL HOME, 305 cemetery Rd, Gurnee.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9 AM until the time of Services at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association, St. Luke's Medical Center or the Newport Township Rescue Department would be appreciated.

Mr. Harvey L. Harris, Jr.
Mr. Harvey L. Harris, Jr. passed away September 8, 2002 at his home in North Chicago.
Mr. Harris, loving son of the late Harvey Harris, Sr. and the late Thelma Harris was born in Cameron, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tillson College in Austin, Texas, and served our country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force.
He lived and worked in North Chicago for over 50 years. In 1990, he retired from the position of Chief Reutilization and Marketing Officer at Great Lakes, after 39 years of honorable Federal service.
Harvey was a member and former Trustee of Trinity AME Church in Waukegan. He also belonged to the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
Preceding Harvey in death were his wife of 48 years, Lottie Mitchell Harris, his aforementioned parents, and his brother, Don Harris.
His only child, Michael "Mike" Harris, daughter-in-law Georgann "Gigi" Harris, and two grandsons, Michael, Jr. and Matthews of Plainfield, New Jersey survive Harvey. He is also survived by his two sisters, Billie Washington of Waukegan and her daughter, Renee Washington, and Ila Brown of Waukegan and her sons, Robert and Walter; a brother, Joe Harris of Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Harris of North Chicago and her four daughters; and Mary Southard of Alabama; one brother-in-law, Richard Mitchell of California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at the BRADSHAW AND RANGE FUNERAL HOME, 2513 Dugdale Road, Waukegan, at 11:00 AM Monday, September 16, 2002, with Rev. Charlene Mills (Harvey's Goddaughter) officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial follows at North Shore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be directed to STAR Hospice, 2615 Washington St., Waukegan, IL 60085.

Charles John Laurance
Charles John Laurance, 50, of Grayslake, IL passed away Thursday, September 12, 2002 at his home.
He was born February 7, 1952 in Berlin, Germany and came to America at the age of nine. He was a 1970 graduate of Libertyville High School and was employed at International Harvester in Libertyville for 19 years. He enjoyed his employment at Dill Brothers in Zion for the past seven years and loved sports, gardening, woodworking and life. Chuck loved his family above all.
He was the dearly loved husband of Linda (nee Hendon) Laurance; beloved and cherished father of Nicole Wright; dear son of Oscar and Edna Laurance of Libertyville and Walli Goldfub of Germany; dear brother of Robert Laurance of Libertyville. He will also be loved and missed by aunts, in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, September 16 at the BURNETT-DANE FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Park Ave (Rt. 176), Libertyville.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 221 Rosecrans Ave, #131, El Segundo, CA, 90245.

Shirley Hobbs Martin
Shirley Hobbs Martin, 69, of Lake Bluff, died peacefully at home September 13, 2002. She was born March 28, 1933 in Washington, D.C. and lived in Maryland until 1969 when she moved to Lake Bluff. Shirley was an avid golfer and long time member of Lake Bluff Golf Club and the Ladies Golf League. She was a former member of the Lake Bluff Women's Club.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 46 years, Donald; four children, Sharon (Mike) Hatch of Waukegan, Donna of DeKalb, Donald "Skip", Jr. (Laura) of Lake Bluff and Daniel (Denise) of Lake Forest; seven grandchildren, Sean, Amy, Joseph, Courtney, Jessica, Alexis and Quinn; and mother Mary A. Hobbs of Sandy Spring, MD. She is also survived by a sister, Charlotte (Isaac) Kirk; brothers Donald R. (Ruth Ellen) Hobbs, Jr., Thomas Hobbs, David (Cathy) Hobbs and Steven (Joan) Hobbs all of Maryland and by many other family members. Her father, Donald R. Hobbs, Sr. preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 16 at The Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest. In lieu of flowers, donations to Pan Can (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network) 2221 Rosecrans Ave., #131, El Segundo, CA 90245 would be appreciated. Info - WENBAN FUNERAL HOME, Lake Forest

Richard "Dick" Moran
Richard Moran, age 63, of Fox Lake, IL passed away at Northern Illinois Medical Center on Wednesday, September 11, 2002.
He was born in Burlington, WI on May 2, 1939, the son of the late Bernice and Leo Edward Moran. He was a resident of Fox Lake for the past 30 years. He was employed at Eagle Foods in McHenry and Lindenhurst. He was a member of the Antioch Moose Lodge and a member of Ducks Unlimited where he also belonged to DU's Greenwing Program in Antioch. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, including duck hunting, fishing, and gardening. He married the former Carol Clary on May 6, 1961.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his children: Patrick of Wisconsin, Dawne Stanton of Johnsburg, IL, and Chanyn (Phil) Winfrey of Long Lake, IL; his grandchildren: Steve and Mallorie Moran, Amber (Lance) Lonski, Tylar and Riley Stanton, Brytne, Phillip, Megan and Sean Winfrey; his sisters: Kathleen (Howard) England, Marilyn Vynalek, and Patricia (Robert) Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Moran.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2002, at RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. Rt. 83, Lake Villa, IL 60046. Interment will be at Windridge cemetery, Cary, IL. Visitation will be on Sunday, 2-6 p.m. and Monday, 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the Illinois Math and Science Academy, Aurora, IL and may be sent in care of Chanyn Winfrey, 34981 Augustana Ave., Ingleside, IL 60041.

Olive E. Ostrander
Olive E. Ostrander, 80, of Waukegan, stepped into the arms of the Lord on September 12, 2002 at Midwest Regional Medical Center. She was born October 21, 1921 in Zion but resided in Waukegan for most of her 80 years. Her hobbies included crocheting, ceramics and bowling.
She was married on June 12, 1948 to Richmond Ostrander and is survived by him and their children, Rick (Donna) Ostrander of Covena, CA, Lynn Jakubowicz of Zion, Dale (Darce) Ostrander of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Bruce Ostrander of Waukegan and Scott Ostrander of Waukegan; 8 grandchildren, Eliah, Chris, Melissa, Michele, Shawna, Tarah, Haley and Lauren; 1 great grandson Micah; 1 sister Gerry (Paul) Thomas of Zion; and 2 brothers, Dr. Walter (Bonnie) Hendricks of Gurnee and Silas (Clarice) Hendricks of Zion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Si and Ruth Hendricks.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN, 1521 Washington St., with Rev. Dr. Gehl DeVore officiating. Burial will be at North Shore Garden of Memories. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Irene V. Przyborski
(nee Michalowski)
Irene V. Przyborski, 85, formerly of Gurnee died Friday, September 13, 2002 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado.
She was born July 18, 1917 in North Chicago, Illinois.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah M. Spicer; two adoring grandchildren, Jamie and Alexis Spicer; her dear sister, Sandra Kraemer; compassionate niece, Bonnie (Thomas) Hill; and caring nephew, Gerry (Terri) Kraemer and Adam and Kristin Curtis; a grandniece, Shannon (Rob) Gordon; grandnephew, Stephen Kraemer; and her dear friend and caregiver, Maria Pawlaszek.
She was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband, Thomas G. Przyborski; her son-in-law, Mark Spicer; parents, Stephen and Caroline Michalowski; a sister, Stephanie Tomich; and brothers-in-law, George Tomich and Francis Kraemer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, September 16, 2002 at 11 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 910 14th Street, North Chicago, IL with Father James Merold officiating. Interment will be at Ascension cemetery, Libertyville, Illinois.
Visitation will be from 10:30 AM to time of Service in the church.

Leon S. Puchlevic
Leon S. Puchlevic, 86, of Waukegan passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at his home.
He was born December 1, 1915 in Chicago, IL.
He was a member of Trinity United Lutheran Church and retired from Abbott Laboratories in 1976 after 37 years.
He is survived by his four children, Raymond (Chiyoko) Radke, Leona Patty, William (Sandra) Puchlevic and Katherine Haubrick; two step sons, Eugene (Patricia) Macki and Michael (Lina) Macki; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; four brothers and sisters, Antionette Ehresman, Ann Kole, Berniece Rosenbaum and Frank Puchlevic; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Sue Davis.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine and his second wife, Jean.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, September 16, 2002 in the MARSH FUNERAL HOME OF WAUKEGAN with Pastor Kelly officiating. Interment will be in North Shore Garden of Memories.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Monday, September 16, 2002 in the Marsh Funeral Home of Waukegan.
Memorials may be made to STAR Hospice or the National Kidney Foundation.

Sister Mary Schueneman R.S.M.
Beloved member of the Sisters of Mercy for 72 years; loving daughter of the late Albert and Margaret, nee: Schaeffer; dear sister of Marcella, Mary Jane Walder, Betty Beyer, Sister Mary Margot RSM and the late Gregory, Lawrence, Helen and Joseph; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Visitation Friday, September 13, 2002 at McAuley Chapel, 400 West Sullivan Road Aurora from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM and at Mercy Convent, 3701 West 99th Street, Chicago from 3:15 PM until 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, September 14, 2002 10:00 AM at Mercy Chapel. Interment Holy Sepulchre cemetery, Worth, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sisters of Mercy would be appreciated.

L.J. (Jim) Theisen
L.J. (Jim) Theisen, 79, of Estelien, South Dakota, passed away September 12, 2002 in the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was born in Erwin, South Dakota on June 3, 1923.
Jim grew up on the farm and was an outstanding basketball player at Erwin high school. He served in the U.S. Navy as a deep sea diver. He came to Waukegan in 1951 working as an apprentice plumber at the Great Lakes Navy Base. In 1955 he opened a plumbing contracting business, known as Theisen Plumbing. After 32 years, sold his shop to Ernie Petersen Plumbing and retired to his native state, South Dakota.
He is preceded in death by his father, John and mother, Goulda (nee Hoffmann). He is survived by his brother, Orville, of Spokane, WA and four sisters: Marie Pedersen, Arlene Gomer, both of Watertown, S.D., Maxine (Peaches) Ray of San Antonio, TX, Rose Lynn (Roney) Sullivan, Washington State.
Jim was a former member of the American Legion and City Club in Waukegan.
Memorial services will be held for family members in South Dakota.
