Josephine P. Lamb
Josephine P. Lamb, 79, DuQuoin, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at 5:38 a.m. at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.

Mrs. Lamb had been a cook at Fair Acres Nursing Home and a member of First Christian Church. She was born September 25, 1921 at DuQuoin, the daughter of Carl and Pearl (Elder) Jones. She married Edward Joslin on December 23, 1937 at Cape Girardeau, Mo. and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1971.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Laverna Joslin of Coal City, Ill. and Jimmie and Jennifer Joslin of Tamaroa; two daughters and son-in-law, Judy and Rollie Kirby of DuQuoin and Donna Beckam of DuQuoin; two brothers, Clarence Jones of DuQuoin and Carl Jones of DuQuoin; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Carl; one brother, Gene; one sister, Maude and one grandson, Troy.

Funeral services were in the Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel on Saturday, May 26 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jackie Davison officiating. Interment was in the IOOF cemetery at DuQuoin.

Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home Friday, May 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from7:30 a.m. until time of service.

Woodrow Glenn Maloney
Woodrow Glenn Maloney, age 88, of Pinckneyville, passed away Saturday morning, May 26, 2001 at 3:42 a.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Woodrow was born October 20, 1912, the son of Walter Scott and Matilda (Kuhn) Maloney in Murphysboro. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Himmelspoch October 31, 1937 in Paducah, Ky. and she preceded him in death on January 25, 1991. Woodrow was a veteran of WW II in the U.S. Air Force, received his Bachelors degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and his Masters Degree form Vander Cook College of Music. He worked for the Pinckneyville School District as a music teacher and band director from 1948 until 1971 and was also employed by the music department at Southern Illinois University for 35 years. He began his music career by playing in dance bands around Southern Illinois and surrounding states. Woodrow was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Pinckneyville, an avid golfer and a lifelong resident of Southern Illinois.

Woodrow is survived by two daughters, Peggy McEnary and husband Gene of Edwardsville and Jean Eder and husband Jeff of Cumming, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Michael McEnary, Nancy Agee and her husband Marty, Stephanie, Bryan, Andrew, Joshua and Jonathan Elder; two great grandchildren, Kristin and Kaitlyn Agee and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers, Paul, David, Freddy and Robert Maloney and two sisters, Kathrine Adkins and Rosanna Maloney.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 29 at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville at 11 a.m. with Pastor Russell Helbig officiating. Interment was in the IOOF City cemetery in Pinckneyville.

Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. and again on the day of service from 8 until 11 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the Woodrow G. Maloney Music Scholarship Fund.

Russel R. Oestreicher
Russel R. Oestreicher, 80, of DuQuoin, passed away Friday, May 11, 2001 at 5:40 a.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Mr. Oestreicher was a farmer and a coal miner. He was of the Protestant faith.

He was born May 27, 1920 at DuQuoin, the son of Adolph 'Butch' Joseph and Dora Della (Clark) Oestreicher. He married Margie Peters on June 1, 1942 at Perryville, Mo.

Surviving are his wife, Margie Oestreicher of DuQuoin; two sons, Darrell Oestreicher of Mulkeytown and Dale Oestreicher of DuQuoin; one brother, Dwight Oestreicher of Oswego; one sister, Mary Combs of Coffeen; four grandchildren, Kevin Oestreicher of Elkville, Traci Haney of DuQuoin, Kerry Oestreicher of Elkville and Lennet Jo Clover of Tamaroa; great grandchildren- Michael Clover, Briana Oestreicher, Gabrielle Weis and Grace Haney and two step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lennet Joe; brother, Robert and sister, Anna Cook.

Funeral services were Sunday, May 13 at 1 p.m. at Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Silas Morgan officiating. Interment was in the IOOF cemetery at DuQuoin.

Friends called at Neal-McClure Funeral Home on Saturday, May 12 from 6 to 8 and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. until time of service.

Memorials donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mary Ellen Roach
Mary Ellen (Punkin) Roach, 61, of DuQuoin, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.

Punkin had worked as a packer at Turco Mfg. and had been a restaurant owner.

She was a member of the Sunfield United Methodist Church.

She was born June 19, 1939 at Sunfield, the daughter of Lavern (Tweed) and Bernice (Toad) (Bishop) Bailey. She was married to Carlie Roach and he survives of DuQuoin.

She is also survived by two sons- Bobby Walters and wife Robin of Tamaroa, David Roach and wife Lisa of DuQuoin, two daughters- Robin Hastings and husband Gary of DuQuoin, Paula Walters of DuQuoin, step-son- Carlie Roach Jr. and wife Robyn of DuQuoin, mother- Bernice (Toad) Bailey of Sunfield, one brother- George Bailey and wife Sherry of Sunfield, one sister- Naomia Cooper and husband Ed of Camillus, NY, sister-in-law- Diana Bailey of Sunfield, several nieces, nephews and cousins, 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother- Jim Bailey.

Funeral services werre at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Jerry Dunn officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.

Interment was in the IOOF cemetery at DuQuoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Barnes Lodge at St. Louis, Mo.

Mae I. Sgroi
Mae I. (Rodely) Sgroi passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 4:30 a.m. in the Seabridge Retirement Center in Carson, California.

Mae was born April 24, 1924, the daughter of Carl and Della Rodely in Steeleville. She was united in marriage on December 29, 1951 to Joe Ferro-Sgroi and he survives.

Mae is also survived by her stepdaughter, Joan Isom; step-grandson, Scott Isom; step-great-granddaughter, Laura Isom; a brother, Carl of Albuquerque, N. Mex.; five sisters, June Smith, Cecile Melvin and Paulette Wheatley of DuQuoin, Gledith Chapman of Pinckneyville and Janet Cavins of Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Loris and one sister, Marcine.

It was her wish to be cremated and have no services conducted.

Marion M. Shepard
Marion M. Shepard, age 86, of Elkville, passed away at her home Saturday evening, May 5, 2001.

Marion was born in Pinckneyville on April 4, 1915, the daughter of Harry and Stella (Cross) McCrary. She was united in marriage May 4, 1953 to Edward Hamilton Shepard in the Concord Baptist Church in Rice and he preceded her in death. Marion enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and was a member of the N.R.A.

Marion is survived by a stepson, Mike Shepard, two step grandsons; Billy and Emmitt Shepard, six nieces; Faye Jones, Virginia Valentine, Mary Ann Thomas, Shirley Risley, Melba Dunihoo and Janet Harris and one nephew, Junior Owen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, a stepson, Bill Shepard, two nephews, Ernel and Billy Owen and seven brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 8 at 2 p.m. at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville with Reverend Kenny Owen officiating. Interment was in the Elkville cemetery.

Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until services.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charles Wade Jr.
Charles "Cabby' Wade Jr., age 76, of Pinckneyville, died Friday, May 4, 2001 at 2:45 a.m. in the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Cabby was born in Pinckneyville on February 15, 1925, the son of Charles K. Wade Sr. and Lorraine B. (Clergy) Wade. He married Nancy Ann Rushing on June 11, 1949 at the United Methodist Church in Pinckneyville and she survives. He was a coal miner for over 40 years, a member of the United Mine Workers of America and of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife: Nancy of Pinckneyville, two sons: Charles M. Wade and his wife Paula of Carbondale and Thomas "Bart' Wade of Cutler, a daughter: Pamela Folden and her husband Tom of Pinckneyville, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside funeral services were held on Saturday, May 5 at 1 p.m. in the IOOF cemetery, Pinckneyville, with Dr. Robert Smith officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Pinckneyville Health Care Center Activity Fund.

Arrangements were by Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville.

Cleo T. House
Cleo T. House, 91, of DuQuoin, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2001 at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.

Cleo was a homemaker and had assisted her husband in the operation of House's Ideal Cleaners for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of DuQuoin.

She was born June 27, 1910 at Elkville, the daughter of Fred and Stella (Brown) Thornton. She married Kenneth House on March 5, 1938 at DuQuoin and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of DuQuoin; daughter-in-law, Shelly House of DuQuoin; grandson, Tighe House of DuQuoin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Butch House, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park at DuQuoin.

Friends called from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Fair Acres Nursing Home Activity Fund.

Roger E. Knapp
Roger E. Knapp, age 64, of Pinckneyville, died Friday, July 20, 2001 at 3:06 a.m. in Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.

Roger was born in DuQuoin on December 25, 1936, the son of Nelson C. and Ella Marie (McElroy) Knapp. He married Shirley J. (Anderson) Swain on June 15, 1974 in DuQuoin and she survives. During his lifetime, he attended Pinckneyville Community High School, served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, wa a retired State of Illinois Department of Agriculture Animal Health Investigator, was a former Supervisor of General Assistance in Perry County, a self-employed real estate business person, a member of the American Legion Post #2504 in Pinckneyville, was a lifelong member and very active in the Democratic Party and was a member of the Metro-East Landlord's Association.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; brother, Roy Knapp and his wife Betty, all of Pinckneyville; step-children, Terry of Orland Park, JoAnn of Olney, the late Tom, formerly of San Francisco, Calif.; Karlene of Crete, Mike of Steger, Tammy of Vincennes, Ind. and Dan of Vincennes, Ind., formerly of Pinckneyville; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nephew, Ted Knapp and his wife Susan and their children, Jared and Megan, all of Mt. Vernon, and an uncle, Calvin Knapp of Pinckneyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Eileen at birth and Roberta Vinyard.

Friends called at the Beaucoup Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, on Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 24 at 1 p.m. in the Beaucoup Baptist Church with Reverend James O. Mathenia officiating. Interment was in Mueller Hill cemetery, Pinckneyville.

Graveside Military rites were provided by American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville.

Memorials may be made to the Mary Kuykendall Carpenter Heart Fund or Hope Lodge, sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements were by Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, Pinckneyville.

Henry Carrol Jackson
Henry Carrol Jackson, 94, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Henry was a retired employee of Blue Bell Packing with 25 years of service. He was the oldest living resident of Sunfield. He was of the Protestant faith.

He was born January 9, 1907 at Tamaroa, the son of Fred and Martha (Davis) Jackson. He married Mary Viva King on December 4, 1929 in Perry County, IL she passed away December 6, 1998.

He is survived by three daughters, Eileen Jackson of Du Quoin, Betty O'Keefe of Du Quoin and Patty Bruns of Pinckneyville; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one infant sister.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2001 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Steve Bareis and Rev. Jerry Dunn officiating.

Friends alledfrom 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Interment was in the Paradise cemetery at Tamaroa.

Friends may make memorials to the Marshall Browning Hospital or the Perry County Health Dept. home health care.

Karl Pflanz
Karl Pflanz, 91, of Salem, died at 5:02 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2001 at Doctors' Health & Rehabilitation Center in Salem.

Mr. Pflanz was born May 11, 1910 in Benton, the son of Charles C. and Della (Johnson) Pflanz. He married Helen E. "Liz" Pflanz on September 13, 1931 in Macon, Ill. and she preceded him in death.

Mr. Pflanz was a manager for St. Clair & Salem Ice Co. and for Blue Bell meat packing company in Decatur, Ala. He also owned Karl's Portion Meats in Huntsville, Ala.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Karole and Robert Meyer of Salem and Sheila and Don Taylor of California; a sister, Melita Pflanz of Du Quoin; a sister-in-law, Shirley Kindele and husband Charlie of Macon, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services were held on Monday. Interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Belleville. Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene C. Przygoda
Eugene C. Przygoda, 59, of Tamaroa, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001 at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.

Eugene had been employed as a laborer at Turco Mfg. Co. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois.

He was born November 2, 1941 at DuQuoin, the son of Daniel and Veronica (Walkowiak) Przygoda.

He is survived by his mother, Veronica Przygoda of Tamaroa; sister, Shirley Trader and husband John of Scheller; two nephews, Keith Trader, Kevin Trader and wife Melinda; niece, Kim Lowery and husband Danny; great-niece, Mackenzie Trader; great-nephew, Matthew Trader and aunts.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in DuBois with Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa. The Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Interment was in the St. Charles cemetery at DuBois.

Friends may make memorials to the St. Charles Church Renovation Fund or the St. Charles cemetery.
