Lucas Wray Pikey, 21, formerly of Waterloo, died May 28, 2009, in Danville, Va. He was born July 3, 1987 in Belleville, the son of David Wray Pikey of York Haven Penn., and Michael Theresa Pikey nee Murdock of Danville, Va. Lucas is the grandson of Dr. Edward E. Pikey, the former Pastor of First Baptist Church of Waterloo, and the late Carol Ann (nee Spies) Pikey. While in Waterloo, Luke attended the Waterloo Public Schools before moving to Edwardsville. In addition to his parents and grandfather, Mr. Pikey is survived by his step-mother Rose Pikey; a son, Codie Hangelia; siblings Catrina Michael Pikey and Jack Edward Pikey, both of Danville, Va.; step-sister, Stacey Weber of York Haven, Penn.; a nephew, Jordan Michael Pikey; step-niece, Shaylin Weber; grandfather, Jack Murdock of Detroit, Mich.; uncles Sam Pikey Pasquin of San Pedro, Calif., and James (Tracy) Murdock of Detroit, Mich.; an aunt, Carla Lea Pikey of Etters, Penn.; and cousins Noah and Seth Pasquin of San Pedro, Calif. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Frannie Murdock (nee Barraco) of Detroit, Mich. Mr. Pikey was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Quernheim Funeral Home handled the local arrangements.

Mary Johnson, nee Davis, 78, of Hooker, Okla., formerly of Waterloo, died June 6, 2009 in Amarillo, Tex. She was born Aug. 25, 1930 in Ridgeway, the daughter of the late Arvel and Marie (nee Heath) Davis. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Dean Johnson Sr.; children William Michael (Christine) Johnson of Peabody, Ma.; and Diane Johnson and Dean (Sonia) Johnson Jr., all of Hooker, Okla.; grandchildren Steven Johnson, Lisa Johnson, Charles "Hank" Harrison Jr., Amy (James) Stafford, James Nicholas Johnson, Dean Johnson III and Mia Leslie Byrd; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, John William Davis. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Friz officiating. Mrs. Johnson was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Carman Greenhill, 73, of Waterloo, died June 8, 2009, in Glen Carbon. She was born April 4, 1936 in Dupo, the son of the late Daniel and Florence (nee Lutker) Greenhill. Mr. Greenhill is survived by his wife, Colleen Greenhill, nee Barfield; and children Daniel "Mitch" Greenhill (friend Annette Riechmann), Michelle (Bob) Macal and Craig (Lisa) Greenhill; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a step-father, Charles Stone; and a sister, Mary Ann (Chuck) Gastelum. Mr. Greenhill was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo and the St. Louis University Alumni Association. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral service was at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Waterloo with Father Osang Idagbo officiating. Mr. Greenhill was buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Belleville. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc-iation.

John Elliott, 84, of Columbia, died June 11, 2009 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Carmi, the son of the late Chandos and Ada (nee Brockett) Elliott. He married Lola (Sailer) Elliott in 1952 in Carmi. In addition to his wife, Mr. Elliot is survived by his children, Jane (Ken) Hill of Maryland Heights, Mo., Janet Drake of The Woodlands, Tex., Michael (Joni) Elliott of Wheeler, eight Grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Pat) Elliott of Carmi; sisters Genell Howell of Carmi and Mary Lou (Robert) Veatch-Mars of Cave Creek, Ariz. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Mr. Elliot served in the Navy during World War II. He was a retired Salesman with Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners and was a member of Concord Baptist Church in St. Louis, Mo. Visitation was Monday, June 15 at Concord Baptist Church in St. Louis, Mo. A funeral followed with Rev. Gene Moniz officiating. Mr. Elliot was buried at Jefferson Barracks National in St. Louis, Mo. Arrangements were handled by Lawlor Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Edwin Stechmesser, 91, of Waterloo, died June 11, 2009. He was born May 14, 1918 in Valmeyer, the son of the Fred and Katherine (nee Hergenroeder) Stechmesser. Mr. Stechmesser is survived by his wife, Pearl (nee Rusteberg) Stechmesser; a son, Arlin (Diane) Stechmesser of Waterloo; grandchildren Shane (Leanna) Stechmesser and Brad (Christine) Stechmesser; a step-grandchild, Amy Elder; and great-grandchildren Nikolas, Christian and Olivia Stechmesser; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by sisters Hilda Fults, Amanda Mehrtens, Elaine Langsdorf and Alma Stechmesser (in infancy); and brothers Alvin, Arnold and Leland Stechmess-er. Mr. Stechmesser was a member of St. John UCC in Valmeyer, Metzger Crook VFW Post 6504 in Waterloo and the Monroe County Farm Bureau. Visitation at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. John UCC in Valmeyer with Pastor Dana Schindler officiating. Mr. Stechmesser was buried at the church's cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. John UCC in Valmeyer or the VFW National Home.

Dorothy Schmitt, nee Wild, 80, of Waterloo, died June 13, 2009, in Red Bud. She was born Feb. 3, 1929 in Fults, the daughter of the late Harry and Meta (nee Boersch) Wild. Mrs. Schmitt is survived by her children, Joel (Cheryl) Schmitt of Waterloo, Thomas (Susan) Schmitt of Waterloo, William (Jane) Schmitt of Waterloo, Christine (Dennis) Lutz of St. Louis, Mo., Judi (Duane) Hergenroeder of Waterloo, Fredric Schmitt of Waterloo and Jeffrey (Beth) Schmitt of St. Louis, Mo.; and grandchildren Cadi Russell, Jeff Ries, Brian Schmitt, Sarah Schmitt, Jessica Harris, John Henry Schmitt, Adam Martin and Glee, Jimmy and Roxy Schmitt; along with three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Hubert "Hugh" Schmitt; a son, John Charles Schmitt; brother, Melvin Wild; and sister, Bernice Pflasterer. Mrs. Schmitt was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Waterloo. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral service was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Osang Idagbo officiating. She was buried at the church's cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dora Wild Benefit.

Kenneth "Mole" Whitford, 51, of Waterloo, formerly of Columbia, died June 20, 2009, at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was born June 15, 1958, in St. Louis, Mo. Mr. Whitford is survived by his wife, Shireen "Kim" (nee Wiles) Whitford; children Shireen "Shiney" Whitford and Ian Whitford, both of Waterloo; mother, Kattie (Moss) Whitford of Burksville; sisters Barbara Brooks of Columbia and Pat (Tom) Toenjes of Belleville; a brother, Calvin (Jill) Whitford of Burksville; mother-in-law, Beverly Wiles of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and father-in-law, Vernon Wiles of Pinckneyville; along with brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ivy "Woody" Whitford; and a brother, Ronnie Whitford. He was an avid Cubs fan, loved fishing and was a member of MENSA. Visitation was Tuesday, June 23 at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral service followed at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Audrey Horn, nee Williams, 86, of Waterloo, died June 20, 2009 at her residence. She was born Oct. 15, 1922 in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Albert and Adele (nee Burkhardt) Williams. Mrs. Horn is survived by her children, Carol (Donald) Matzenbacher and Leslie (Cherry) Horn, both of Waterloo, and Jim (Lori) Horn of Fenton, Mo.; grandchildren Rodney Matzenbacher, Jeffrey (Jodie) Matzenbacher, Heidi Matzenbacher and Matthew Horn, all of Waterloo; and Christina Horn and Nicholas Horn of Fenton, Mo.; and step-great-grandchildren Kyle and Jenna; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Horn; and a sister, Jackie Kleinschmidt. Mrs. Horn was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral service was at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo with Pastor Matt Clark officiating. Mrs. Horn was buried at the Waterloo City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to her church.

Helen Lena Marie Smith, nee Armbrecht, 89, of Murphysboro, died June 20, 2009, in Carbondale. She was born Oct. 13, 1919, in Monroe City, the daughter of the late Adolph Jr. and Ida (nee Heintz) Armbrecht. Mrs. Smith is survived by her children Gerald Smith of Murphysboro and Charles (Brenda) Smith of Red Bud; along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Smith; and a daughter, Pearl Smith. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor Matt Friz officiating. Mrs. Smith was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.

Eugene Dann, 75, of Chesterfield, Mo., died June 20, 2009. He was born Sept. 29, 1933 in Wartburg, the son of the late Henry and Edna (nee Thorburg) Dann. Mr. Dann is survived by his wife, Vicki Dann, nee Boesch; a son, Tim Dann; and sisters Mary Ann (Roger) Fischer and Susan (Bernard) Little; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dann; and a daughter, Sharon Dann. Mr. Dann served in the U.S. Army and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Des Peres, Mo., Camp Wartburg Board of Directors and the Golf Foundation of Missouri. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wartburg with Pastor Tim Seban officiating. Mr. Dann was buried at the church's cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Camp Wartburg Chapel Fund.
