Marie Larsen, nee Shatlain, 93, of Waterloo, died April 22, 2013, in Belleville. She was born Sept. 30, 1919, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late George Dewey and Thelma Marie (nee Nicodemus) Shatlain. Mrs. Larsen is survived by her children, Barbara (Jerry) Rachell and Terry (Pam) Larsen; grandchildren, Michael (Jill) Larsen, Gary Larsen, Eric (Melissa) Larsen, Reed Larsen, Jena (Drew) Guldner, Steven (Lara) Schmidt, John Schmidt, Ryan Schmidt, Amanda (Patrick) Fromme, Raina (Dan) Lewis and Guinevere Larsen; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Larsen; a son, Kenneth Larsen; and granddaughter, Erin Schmidt. Mrs. Larsen attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo, where she was a member of the Mary and Martha Society. She was active in Babe's and the Waterloo Senior Center. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Osang Idagbo officiating. Mrs. Larsen was buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Grade School.

Donald H. Schrader, 89, of Evanston, died April 22, 2013. He was born April 12, 1924, in Valmeyer, the son of the late Louis and Bertha (nee Wilde) Schrader. Mr. Schrader is survived by his children, Cheryl Schrader-Chukwu, Donna Schrader, Julia Schrader, MaryLee Reid and Peter Schrader; a sister, Dorthy Rick and Lorraine Obst; a brother, Lester (Bonnie) Schrader; and eight grandchildren; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian (nee Rick) Schrader; and brothers, Howard and Raymond Schrader. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Zoar UCC in New Hanover with Pastor R.J. Morgan. Memorials may be made to the Stroke Association.

Clara Mae Reinhold, nee McNeil, 69, of Hornbeak, Tenn., died April 28, 2013, in Red Bud. She was born Feb. 7, 1944, in Fairfield, the daughter of the late Millard and Jessie (nee Finley) McNeil. Mrs. Reinhold is survived by her husband, Kenny Reinhold; children Gerald, Roberta, Karen, Karl, Kim and Kelly; a sister, LaDonna (Harold) Beck; brother, Robert (Darlene) McNeil; and sister-in-law, Jackie McNeil; along with grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brothers Alva and Jerry McNeil. Mrs. Reinhold attended the Wynnburg Baptist Church. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Benjamin Chapman officiating. Memorials may be made to Wynnburg Baptist Church.

Joseph C. Vilmer, 84, of Waterloo, died April 29, 2013, in Waterloo. He was born Oct. 20, 1928, in St. Louis, the son of the late Abb and Allie (nee Fischer) Vilmer. Mr. Vilmer is survived by his children, Brenda (Will) Allgood, Pat (David) Fortner, Michael Vilmer, Sheila (Jerry) Bone, Kathy (Tom) Cox, Jeffrey Vilmer and Kevin Vilmer; and a niece, Joy (Irv) Wineger; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-brothers and step-sisters. Mr. Vilmer was retired from Emerson Electric, Machinist Local 1102 AFL-CIO. He enjoyed fishing, pool, bowling, movies, music and reading. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Oak Hill.

Dorothy E. Stemler, nee Schroeder, 89, of Columbia, died April 27, 2013, in St. Louis. She was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Columbia, the daughter of the late Herman and Bertha (nee Rey) Schroeder. Mrs. Stemler is survived by her children, Patricia (Walter Jr.) Wetzel, Bettylou (Robert) McNiel and Kenneth (Luann) Stemler; grandchildren Julie (Brian) Branson, Ronald (Maria Fernanda) Wetzel, Colleen Stemler, Aaron McNiel, Nicole (Brian) O'Connell, Jason (Paula) McNiel and Kimberly McNiel; great-grandchildren Kendra and Trent McNiel, Alexis and Kallie O'Connell, Valerie and Jessica Branson and Ela Fernanda Wetzel; along with nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Stemler. Mrs. Stemler was a 60-year member of Monroe County HCE, Monroe County Farm Bureau, co-founder and director of Bluffside Educational Foundation For Valmeyer Community School, Monroe County Fair Association, Holstein Association, St. Paul UCC – Waterloo and a past member of the Mid America Dairymen. After the Flood of ‘93 Dorothy and her husband sold 500 acres for the relocation of New Valmeyer. She enjoyed doing things to benefit the community. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Friday, May 3, at 11 a.m., at St. John UCC in Valmeyer with Pastor Ivan Horn officiating. Mrs. Stemler will be buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to the Valmeyer Bluffside Educational Foundation.

Arlene Post, nee Hoelker, of St. Louis, died April 30, 2013. Mrs. Hoelker is survived by her husband of 59 years, George Post Jr.; children Richard (Paula) Post of Waterloo, Cindy (Eugene) Morgenthaler of St. Louis, Diane (Russell) Gregson of Waterloo and James Post of St. Louis; grandchildren Rick Jr., Regan, Riley and Riva Post, Christine, Julie, Eugene III, Adam and Ben Morgenthaler, Helen Gregson and Ellen Post; sister, Joan (Walt) Gemmer; and sister-in-law, Carol Ann (Dan) Venverloh; along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Mrs. Post was a 30-year volunteer at St. Anthony’s Medical Center. Visitation is Thursday, May 2, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Kutis Funeral on Lemay Ferry Road. Funeral is Friday, May 3, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home.

David A. Asselmeier Sr., 73, of Columbia, died April 2, 2013, at St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born Oct. 8, 1939, in Belleville, the son of the late Alfred and Caroline (nee Krone) Asselmeier. He married Shirley (nee Deffenbaugh) Asselmeier in 1962 in Columbia. In addition to his wife, Mr. Asselmeier is survived by his son, David “Buzz” Asselmeier Jr. of Springfield; sisters-in-law Doris (David) Bound of Conway, Ark., and Carol (Ben) Bergmann of Columbia; and a brother-in-law, Charles (Kim) Deffenbaugh of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Asselmeier; and a brother, Carl Louis Asselmeier.After graduating from Columbia High School, he earned a degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Mr. Asselmeier was a teacher at Wirth Junior High School in Cahokia. He was also a longtime banker at Roosevelt Savings and Loan in St. Louis, Mo., and Monroe National / First Bank of Columbia. David attended St. Paul UCC in Columbia. He was a member of Columbia Sister Cities, the Maeystown Preservation Society, Columbia Chamber of Commerce, Columbia Rotary Club, Columbia Police Pension Board and the Columbia Revolving Loan Committee. Mr. Asselmeier earned the Columbia Chamber’s Pillar of the Community award in 1999. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. Paul UCC in Columbia with Rev. Kristofer Avise-Rouse officiating. Mr. Asselmeier was buried at the Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery. Memorials may be made to his church’s Elevator Fund or the G.A. Friz Scholarship Fund.

Jody Eileen Laut, nee Walker, R.N., 53, of Belleville, formerly of Florissant, Mo., died April 4, 2013, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville. She was born Feb. 12, 1960, in Florissant, the daughter of Joann Myrt Walker and the late Jack Walker. Mrs. Laut is survived by her husband of 32 years, Kenny B. Laut; children, Keith Laut of Belleville and Kevin Laut of Long Beach, Calif.; and siblings, Jo Ann (Mike) Pipitone of St. Peters, Mo., Sue (Steve) Holcomb of Olathe, Kan., Jack (Sandy) Walker of Princeton, Tex., Barb (Gerard) Henke of Florissant and Jill (Doug) Blasdel of Villa Ridge, Mo.; along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Besides her father, Mrs. Laut was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Walker of Tulsa, Okla. Mrs. Laut never missed a K-SHE Blood Drive. She enjoyed her trips with the Paderborn Girls and the annual sisters' weekend. Visitation and funeral were at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Belleville with Rev. Doug Stewart officiating. Mrs Laut was buried at the Hecker City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Belleville Area Humane Society.

Gerald R. Erickson, 80, of Columbia, formerly of Lake St. Louis, Mo., died April 6, 2013, at Garden Place of Columbia. He was born Dec. 21, 1932, in Detroit, Mich., the son of the late Helmer and Signe (nee Tengman) Erickson. Mr. Erickson is survived by his sons, Lee (Pam) Erickson of Waterloo and Scott Erickson of Manchester, Mo.; and a grandchild, Courtney (Greg) Venker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (nee Anderson) Erickson; and a grandson, a Justin Erickson. Mr. Erickson served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and later was a major in the Air Force Reserves. He was a career military civil servant. Gerald was a long-time volunteer at the James S. McDonnell U.S.O. at Lambert International Airport in St. Louis. Private services were held. Lawlor Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Mr. Erickson was buried at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the U.S.O.

Jeffrey A. Englerth, 44, of Waterloo, died April 6, 2013, in Waterloo. He was born Feb. 19, 1969, in St. Louis, the son of Allan and Paulette (nee Sondag) Englerth. Besides his parents, Mr. Englerth is survived by his sisters, Jennifer (Brad) Whelan and Jamie (William) Riechmann; grandmother, Clara (bee Bade) Sondag; and nieces and nephews Cole Matzenbacher, Emily Whelan, Evan Riechmann and Lily Riechmann; along with aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Frank and Viola (nee Einwich) Englerth and Paul Sondag. Mr. Englerth attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Valmeyer. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Ronald Weber officiating. Mr. Englerth was buried at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to the church or Oak Hill.
