Susie Davila nee Lozano, 74, of Columbia, died June 30, 2005. She was born February 5, 1931, in San Antonio, Tex., the daughter of the late Benito V. and Amada Lozano. She was married to the late Edward L. Davila; he preceded her in death in 1992. She is survived by her sons Anthony Hernandez of St. Louis and Dino (Vicki) Lozano of St. Louis; daughter Mandy (Michael) Dougherty of Columbia; grandson Joseph Edward Johnson of St. Louis; brother John (Angelina) Lozano of Pico Rivera, Calif.; sister-in-law Dora (Sheve) Villareall of San Antonio, Tex.; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and seven brothers and sisters. Mrs. Lozano attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at Immaculate Conception Church, Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. She is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice in Alton.

Hilda C. Grab, 92, of Waterloo, died June 30, 2005, in Belleville. She was born February 16, 1913, in St. Louis County, the daughter of the late Andrew C. and Mary Grab nee Noll. She is survived by her nieces and nephews James (Lou Ann) Feurer, Darlene (Thomas) Sandheinrich, Clyde Hoepfinger, David (Francis) Grab, Larry (Susan) Grab, Dale (Linda) Hoepfinger, Pat (Jim) Ford, Beverly (Douglas) Nauman, Janet (Edward) Hoerner, Kenny (Ginny) Grab, Charles Grab and Christine Morski. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Elvera Hoepfinger and Agnes Feurer, and brothers Alvin Grab, Norman Grab, Sylvester Grab and Clarence Grab. Ms. Grab was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pastor Kyle Sandersfeld officiating. She is buried at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Arnold, Mo. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

Doris E. A. Ritzel nee Mueller, 64, of Waterloo, died May 1, 2005, in St. Louis. She was born December 21, 1941, in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Erwin W. and Luella Mueller nee Henke. She was married to Richard A. Ritzel. She is survived by her husband; children Allan Ritzel of Waterloo, Jeff (Nancy) Ritzel of Waterloo and Jason Ritzel of Waterloo; grandchildren Amber, Megan, Cody and Tanner; sisters LaVerne (Dale) Schutt of Waterloo and Linda Hard of St. Louis; brother Paul R. (Kathy) Mueller of Texarkana, Tex.,; aunt Luella Mueller of Columbia; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Ritzel was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo. She retired as a secretary in the Waterloo School District. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo, Pastor Mark Buck officiating. She is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo.

Martin E. Doyle, 83, of rural Waterloo, died May 1, 1005, in Belleville. He was born May 1, 1922, in Monroe County, to Ambrose J. and Irene E. Doyle nee Kelley. He was married to Dardanella Doyle nee Scheibler. He is survived by his wife; daughters Judy (David) Rudwick of Belfontaine Neighbors, Mo., and Mary Ann (Roy) Brand of Maeystown; grandchildren Michelle Crawford, Klaudia Davis, Terry Helmers, Jacob Brand, Jessica Brown, Juliet Brand and Johanna Brand; six great-grandchildren; sister Bernice (Bill) Winkelmann of Steeleville; brother Donald (Marcellia) Doyle of Granite City; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Patrick R. Doyle, and sisters Dorothy Dougherty and Delores Roberts. Mr. Doyle was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was a retired farmer and road commissioner. He was also a member of the American Thresherman Association, Peters Town Heritage, and Monroe County Democratic Club. Visitation was at DeFabio Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at SPPS, Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Grade School.

Ruth C. Foster nee Ashton, 92, of Waterloo, died May 3, 2005, in Waterloo. She was born December 31, 1912, in Paragould, Ark., the daughter of the late Clarence and Winnie Ashton nee McCullough. She was married to the late Roy Foster. She is survived by her son Lee (Sue) Foster of Waterloo; step-son John Foster; grandchildren; sister Pat Tyner of Arkansas; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Mrs. Foster was a member of First Baptist Church in Waterloo. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes.

Wilbert G. Macklin, 84, of Columbia, died May 7, 2005, in St. Louis. He was born June 15, 1920, in St. Louis, the son of the late Jacob and Myra Macklin nee Messer. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Ruth Macklin nee Kirby in 1998. He was a retired truck driver. Visitation and funeral services were at DeFabio Funeral Home. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Cletus Eschmann, 73, of Fults, died May 17, 2005, in Waterloo. He was born July 7, 1931, in Madonnaville, the son of the late John Sr. and Rosa D. Eschmann nee Schaefer. He was married to the late Mary E. Eschmann nee Woll. He is survived by his children Jean (Don) Voelker of Waterloo, Alan (Maribeth) Eschmann of Fults, David (Tammi) Eschmann of Waterloo, and Michael Eschmann of Fults; grandchildren Daniel Voelker, Brianna Voelker, Jada Voelker, Stephanie Eschmann, Alicia Eschmann, Ashley Eschmann, Brittany Eschmann and Courtney Eschmann; brothers Joseph Eschmann of Waterloo, Norbert (Kaye) Eschmann of Waterloo, George (Judy) Eschmann of Waterloo, Steven (Ramona) Eschmann of Waterloo, and Wilbert (Karen) Eschmann of Columbia; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers Bernard Eschmann, Leo Eschmann, Sylvester Eschmann and John J. Eschmann. Mr. Eschmann was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Madonnaville. He was a member of Ironworkers Local 392 and the Monroe County Farm Bureau. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Madonnaville, Fr. John Ssebitosi officiating. He is buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Madonnaville. Memorials may be made in the form of masses or to Alzheimer’s research.

Bernice V. Zeiger nee Hergenroeder, 85, of Prairie du Rocher, died May 17, 2005, in St. Louis. She was born April 3, 1920, in East St. Louis, to the late Emil and Elsie Hergenroeder nee Agnew. She was married to the late Herman Zeiger. She is survived by her children James (Mary Ellen) Zeiger of Prairie du Rocher, Ruth Ann (Bill) Gallagher of Adrian, Mich., Richard (Joyce) Zeiger of Prairie du Rocher, and Mary Ellen Steibel of Prairie du Rocher; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister-in-law Rosemary Hergenroeder of Waterloo and Roy Stoeckel of Columbia; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son William Zeiger, son-in-law Joe Steibel, granddaughter Kimberly Kirkley, sister Blanche Hergenroeder, and brothers Leroy Hergenroeder and Woodrow Hergenroeder. Mrs. Zeiger was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel of Renault, where she was involved with Alter Sodality and Our Lady of Good Counsel Quilters. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Fr. Roger Karban officiating. She is buried at St. Mary Cemetery in Renault. Memorials may be made in the form of masses to Our Lady of Good Counsel of Renault, or to the church.

Dallas A. Bowen, 62, of Columbia, died May 18, 2005, in Columbia. He was born October 26, 1942, in St. Louis , the son of the late James A. and Martha J. Bowen nee Whitecotton. He married Theresa Bowen nee Linder in 1991; his first wife, Diane H. Bowen nee Mueller, preceded him in death. He is survived by his children David (Joelle) Bowen of MacClenny, Fla.; Jeffrey (Heather) Bowen of Belleville; Christina Simons of Quogue, New York; Jennifer Simons of West Hampton Beach, New York; and Matthew Simons of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren Brittnie Bowen, Coree Bowen, Morgan Bowen and Lillian Simons; brothers Ralph (Dorothy) Bowen, Robert (Wanda) Bowen and Basil Bowen; sisters Mary Jeanette Stephens and Bea Gregg; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and five brothers and sisters. Mr. Bowen was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. He was retired from Steamfitters Local #439 of East St. Louis. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia, Fr. Steve Gira officiating. He is buried at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Keith A. Hoffmann, 40, of Fults, died May 18, 2005, in Fults. He was born March 19, 1965, in Belleville, the son of Lloyd and Bette Hoffmann nee Fauss. He was married to Amy Hoffmann nee Thien. He is survived by his parents, wife, children Derek Hoffmann and Claire Hoffmann; father- and mother-in-law Wilbert and Jane Thien of Fults; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Harold and Lorene Fauss and Ferd and Leona Hoffmann. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo. He worked as a commercial sprayer for Gateway FS. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. He is buried at St. John Cemetery in Maeystown. Memorials may be made to his children’s college fund.
