Russell William Peck, 79, of Dupo, died May 18, 2008, in Belleville. He was born Jan. 15, 1929, in East St. Louis, the son of the late Harry and Clare Peck nee Durnberg. He was married to Dorothy Peck nee Ross. Mr. Peck is survived by his wife; children Brian (Debbie) Peck of Collinsville, Kathy Pierce of Texas, Theresa Peck of Maryville, and Kathy (David) Simeral of Dupo; step-children Michael (Laurie) Stein of Hartland, Wisc., and Chris (Dianne) Stein of Columbia; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brothers Richard Peck and Norman Peck; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife June Peck; and brother Randy Peck. Mr. Peck was a member of First Baptist Church in Dupo. He retired from Granite City Steel and later worked for 10 years and retired from the local labor union. Visitation was at Dashner-Leesman Funeral Home. A funeral service was at First Baptist Church in Dupo, Rev. Rick Lay officiating. He is buried at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Dupo Building Fund.

Arlou Koch, 75, of Columbia, died May 21, 2008, in Columbia. She was born Aug. 25, 1932, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Frank and Hilda Weilbacher Huch. She married August Koch in 1949. Mrs. Koch is survived by her husband; sons Larry (Caty) Koch of Wilton, Conn., Marty (Janet) Koch of Arnold, Mo., and Kevin (Cindy) Koch of Columbia; five grandchildren; sister Frances Foster of High Ridge, Mo.; and brother, Joseph (Arleen) Weilbacher of Columbia; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Willard Weilbacher and Norman Weilbacher; and sister Mary Ann Stahlmann. A memorial Mass was held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia, Fr. Carl Scherrer and Fr. Steve Gira officiating. According to her wishes, Mrs. Koch donated her body for scientific study. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception School Education Fund.

Grace Lenhardt nee Muskopf, 88, of Waterloo, died May 23, 2008, in Waterloo. She was born Dec. 19, 1919 in Columbia, the daughter of the late Irwin and Mathilda Muskopf nee Werner. She was married to the late Robert Lenhardt. Mrs. Lenhardt is survived by her son David (Bridget) Lenhardt of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren Michelle (Marco) Calavita and Meghan Lenhardt; great-grandchildren Elizabeth Calavita and Lucas Calavita; and son-in-law Dick McAnern of Las Vegas, Nev. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Robert “JR” Lenhardt Jr., and daughter Betty McAnern. Mrs. Lenhardt was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo and the Eastern Star of Columbia. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. She is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to her church of the Salvation Army.

Mae M. Limestall, 82, of Columbia, died May 23, 2008, in St. Louis. She was born May 3, 1926, in Columbia, the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Juengling nee Dannehold. She married Roy “Joe” Limestall in 1946. Mrs. Limestall is survived by her husband; children Ann Kleinschmidt of Millstadt, Dennis (Nancy) Limestall of Schaumburg, and Gary Limestall of Columbia; grandchildren Don Kleinschmidt, Tyler Kleinschmidt, Courtney (Matt) Craig, Blake Limestall, Ryan Limestall and Chad Limestall; siblings James P. Juengling of Columbia, and Pearl Landgraf of Columbia; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Vernet Juengling, son-in-law Gary Kleinschmidt, and daughter-in-law Claudia Limestall. Mrs. Limestall was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, and had been active with the Altar Sodality and the quilting group. She was a member of Columbia Senior Citizens, Columbia Gymnastic Association Auxiliary, and had volunteered with the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral Mass was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. She is buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception School Education Fund.

Dorothy Ebersohl nee Jehling, 84, of Waterloo, died May 24, 2008. She was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Waterloo, the daughter of the later Charles and Frieda Jehling nee Wetzel. She was married to the late Oscar Ebersohl. Mrs. Ebersohl is survived by her children Sharon Ebersohl and Dennis Ebersohl, both of Waterloo; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Carl Jehling, along with sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Mrs. Ebersohl was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo. She was a charter member of the Waterloo VFW Auxiliary, a past president of the Waterloo American Legion Auxiliary, Bud Light Brigade and a board member of Deer Hill Cemetery. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was at St. Paul UCC, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. She is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to Hoyleton Children's Home or the Deer Hill Cemetery.

Michael Thies, 42, of Ruma, died May 25, 2008, in Indianapolis, Ind. He was born Oct. 19, 1965, in Red Bud, the son of Arthur and Glydys Thies nee Schmidt. He was married to Kathy Thies. Mr. This is survived by his children Sarah, Kelley and Nathan Thies and Cody Melliere; father-in-law Charles (Debbie Buss) of St. Libory; mother-in-law Marlene Buss of Red Bud; brothers- and sisters-in-law Karla (Spanky) Williams of Freeburg, Kurt (Amanda) Buss of St. Libory, Jaime (Mike) Finck of St. Louis, Scott (Jaime) Dressler of Highland, Katie (John) Feder of New Athens, Amanda Dressler of Freeburg and Eric Dressler of St. Libory; and step-grandfather Clarence Wisckamp of Freeburg; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Sigmund and Clara Thies and Carl and Olga Schmidt. Mr. Thies was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ruma. He was on the Ruma zoning board and park board, was a former Ruma alderman and a member of the Red Bud Chamber of Commerce. He was a tee-ball coach for his son's team, volunteered with the Boy Scouts and was a member of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation. Visitation was at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. A funeral Mass was at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Father Clyde Grogan officiating. He is buried at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Ruma. Memorials may be made to his children's educational fund.

James “John” Otten, 69, of Modoc, died May 27, 2008, at his residence. He was born Aug. 27, 1938, in Evansville, the son of the late John and Mary Otten nee Siebold. Mr. Otten is survived by his sisters Margaret Vaughn of Prairie du Rocher, Mary Lou Loehr of Belleville, Mary (Rogers) Donjon of Prairie du Rocher, and Ruth (Jerry) Baker of Red Bud; along with nieces and nephews. He worked as a deck hand on the ferry boat in Modoc and then was employed for 24 years at Gilster Mary-Lee in Chester. Visitation was at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. A funeral Mass was at St. Leo Catholic Church in Modoc, Father Clyde Grogan officiating. He is buried at the church’s cemetery.

Ethel Caroline Althoff nee Rahn, 79, of Waterloo, died May 28, 2008, in St. Louis. She was born Jan. 24, 1929, in Red Bud, the daughter of the late Oscar and Ardelle Rahn nee Gregson. She married Paul Althoff 55 years ago. Mrs. Althoff is survived by her husband; daughter Angela (Gary) Most of Waterloo; grandchildren Phillip Most and Olivia Most; brothers Albert (Faye) Rahn and Gerald (Joan) Rahn, both of Red Bud; and brother-in-law Robert Althoff of St. Louis; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Althoff was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo, the Women's Guild, Consistory, Monroe County Homemakers Extension and Monroe County Zoning Board. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral was at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. She is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Sadie Henson, 97, of Dupo, died May 28, 2008, at her residence. She was born Dec. 16, 1910, in Fountain, the daughter of the late Theodor and Louisa Schellhardt nee Ludwig. She was married to the late John Henson Mrs. Henson is survived by her children Donald (Marilyn) Henson of Columbia, David (Carol) Henson of Mt. Vernon and Robert (Joyce Ann) Henson of Columbia; grandchildren Dr. DeeAnn Stroop, Ltc. AF J.D. Henson, Karri Mize, Rev. Mike Henson, Suzanne Teske, Wendy Hedin, Janelle Moore, Julie Nelson and Ryan Henson; and 20 great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Jack Schellhardt, Oscar Schellhardt, Emil Schellhardt, Otto Schellhardt, Elenore Leister, Freida Muehlhauser and Annie Rusteberg. Mrs. Henson was a member of Christ United Church of Christ of Dupo, the quilter’s group, women's guild, bible study and home extension. She retired as a licensed practical nurse in 1975. She was the grand marshal of the Dupo Centennial Parade in 2007. Visitation and a funeral service were at Christ UCC of Dupo, Rev. Kim Kelly officiating. She is buried at Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Pine Log, Ga. Memorials may be made to Christ UCC of Dupo.

Dorothy Adams nee Srock, 91, of Waterloo, died May 29, 2008, in Columbia. She was born Oct. 19, 1916 in Tibbe, Miss., the daughter of the late Arthur and Louise Srock nee Meisenholder. She was married to the late Thomas Adams. Mrs. Adams is survived by her children Carol Warren of Matewan, W.V., Edward (Melba) Adams of Buffalo, Mo., James (Helen) Adams of Springfield, Mo., Barbara Adams Mallory of Columbia, Candy (John) LaCroix of Dupo, Wendy (Dan) Descher of Highland, Matt (Denise) Adams of San Clemente, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister Esther Bryan of Laurie, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Roger Adams; daughter-in-law JoAnn Adams; son-in-law William Mallory; a sister and brothers. Mrs. Adams was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Columbia and the Bible Study Group. She was a Sunday school teacher and was a 26-year breast cancer survivor. Visitation and a funeral service were at Quernheim Funeral Home. She is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to her church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Rosemary Virginia Burns nee Steinheimer, 73, of Dupo, died April 1, 2008. She was born Feb. 4, 1935, the daughter of the late Ervin and Virginia Steinheimer nee Klein. She was married to the late Frank E. Burns. Ms. Burns is survived by her special friend and companion William Brueter; children Judith (Clifford) Meddows of Fairview Heights, Richard Taylor of Breese, Donna J. (Ted) Bickl of Cahokia, Johnny (Clara) Taylor Sr. of Marissa, Charles Adams of Belleville, and Brian (Kim) Burns of Dupo; step-son Tim Burns of Rockford; grandchildren Roberto Vinluan, Raquel Smith, James Asher, Joshua Bickl, Melissa Smith, Johnny Taylor Jr., Amanda Hornbostel, Ashley Wittenbrink, Dennis Jones Jr., Chad Stein, Danielle Stein, Tiffany Stein, Derek Burns and Dane Jordan; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Erwin (Alice) Steinheimer, Edith (Roger) Dericks, Bernard (Karen) Steinheimer, Jannette (Dennis) Bayer and Arthur (Lola) Steinheimer; aunt Lillian Favor; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son Mark Francis Burns. Mrs. Burns was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Cahokia. Visitation was at Dashner-Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo. A funeral Mass was at Holy Family Catholic Church, Fr. Paul Wienhoff officiating. She is buried at St. Peter's United Church of Christ Cemetery in Lenzburg. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association of Stroke Prevention. Visitation and a funeral service were at Dashner Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo, Fr. Paul Wienhoff officiating. He will be buried at Jefferson Barracks Memorial Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Whispering Pines at Oak Hill Care Center.
