Maurine Cole Dains
Maurine Dains, 90, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Macomb, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Janaro Health Care in Scottsdale.
She was born May 14, 1911, the daughter of George and Mary Ellen Guy Cole. She married Robert Dains Dec. 28, 1937. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, Dan, Vail, Colo.; one daughter, Mary Lou, Mesa, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews, including Kenneth Cole and Lois Bigham, Macomb.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Dains attended Western Illinois University and was a retired teacher.
Services were held Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in Scottsdale.
Memorials may be made to Janaro Health Care, 5937 E. Cactus Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85254.

Cleone B. Rawson
Cleone B. Rawson, 83, of Monmouth, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2001 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Abingdon, the daughter of Renalt J. and Almyra Bowton Barnes.
She married Robert Tubbs Rawson on Dec. 2, 1942, in New York City. He died Aug. 1, 1994.
Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia (Bill) Gillen, Monmouth, and Rebecca (Barry) Troup, Camp Hill, Pa.; and four grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She attended school in Monmouth and at Christian College, Columbia, Mo., and graduated from Monmouth College.
She reviewed books for several years for Viking Press, was a substitute teacher at Monmouth and Warren high schools and helped her husband operate Barnes Super Value in Monmouth.
She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and its Alumnae Club and was a member of Chapter E, P.E.O. and O G M Club.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Turnbull Funeral Home with the Rev. Stafford Weeks officiating.
Burial was in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Extended Care Unit at Community Medical Center Monmouth.

Shirley Lorraine Baumunk
Shirley Lorraine Baumunk, 65, of Macomb, died at 6:40 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at McDonough District Hospital. She was born Sept. 1, 1936, in Macomb, the daughter of John Lloyd and Lola Mae Cannon Baumunk. She married Jerry E. Vincent Jan. 24, 1954.
She is survived by two sons, Randy (Laine) Vincent, El Paso, and John Vincent, Colchester; one daughter, Jennifer (Herb) Burns, Cameron; three grandchildren, Eva Vincent, Blake Burns and Carrie Burns; three sisters, Lola Mae Cannon, Lufkin, Texas, Norma Jean Keepper, Decatur, and Virginia Krueger, Burlington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Shirley lived most of her life in the Macomb area. She belonged to various Methodist churches. She had worked in clerical positions for several area businesses before her retirement.
Cremation rites were accorded. Private disposition of ashes will take place at a later time.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.

Betty E. Pearce
Betty E. Pearce, 88, of Macomb, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 1, 1913, in Colchester, the daughter of Cecil and Lela Parnell Belshaw. She married George I. Pearce April 20, 1935. He preceded her in death Sept. 23, 2000.
She is survived by one son, Richard L. Pearce, Monmouth; three daughters, Sally S. Cottle, Kansas, Georgia A. Beltz, Charleston, and Roxilee Vawter, Industry; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter and four sisters.
She was a bookkeeper at the former Montgomery Ward in Macomb and Supreme Radio Communications in Macomb.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ron Green officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to McDonough District Hospital home health care program.

Robert L. Cunningham
Funeral services for Robert L. Cunningham, 72, Roseville, were held Friday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. at Corman Memorial Home, Roseville, with the Rev. James Oliver officiating. Interment was in Roseville Cemetery, where military rites were accorded by Lawson Babbitt Post #614 American Legion.
Mr. Cunningham died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at 4:49 p.m. in Community Medical Center, Monmouth. Masonic Rites were held at the funeral home prior to visitation on Thursday. Memorials may be made to The American Legion Post’s Nurses Scholarship Fund or to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Fund.
A son of Chester and Helen Rankin Cunningham, he was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Roseville. He married Sharyn Waymack on Aug. 1,1953, in Berwick, who survives.
He also leaves: three daughters, Debbie (Dan) Taflinger and Lisa (Mark) Mills, both of Roseville, and Sue (Robin) Harshbarger of Abingdon; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
His parents and a brother, Richard, preceded him in death.
Mr. Cunningham grew up, received his education in Roseville, where he was a lifelong farmer, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of Lawson Babbitt Post #614 American Legion; Roseville Lodge #519 AF&AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; Mohammed Temple Shrine in Peoria; and West Central Illinois Shrine Club.
Mr. Cunningham also served on the Roseville Farmers Grain board of directors, the Warren County Fair Board, the Roseville State Bank board of directors, and the Roseville Township Board.

J. G. "Bud” Quinn
J. G. "Bud” Quinn, 78, Macomb, died at 10:56 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 20, 1923, in East St. Louis, the son of George and Miriam Dowling Quinn. He married Joanne Stringfield Oct. 27, 1951, in Springfield. She survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Greg Quinn, Macomb, and Jeff Quinn, Naperville; two daughters, Mickey Elliott, Pittsfield, and Denise (Tom) Canavit, Troy; seven grandchildren, Andrea and Tracey Elliott, Savannah Canavit, and Britney, Ryan, Kaitlyn and Hailey Quinn; and his mother-in-law, Helen Stringfield, who made her home with the Quinns.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Theresa Church and Rose Quinn.
He served in the Air Force from 1942 to 1946. He was a graduate of Bradley University. He was a civil engineer for the State of Illinois for 25 years and worked for several private firms for several years. He was a member of St. Paul Church, a fourth degree Knight of Columbus and a member of American Legion Post #6.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at St. Paul Church in Macomb, with the Rev. Richard Pricco officiating. Burial,with military rites, was in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Pauls Church Building Fund or American Diabetes Association.

Merlyn E. Peters
Merlyn E. Peters, 71, Macomb, died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Heartland Healthcare Center.
He was born April 6, 1930, in Mason City, Iowa,the son of Henry and Vesta Sarah McElroy Peters. He married Shirley Bell Jan. 28, 1951, in Mason City, Iowa. She survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Ed (Cathy) Peters and Gene (Sonya) Peters, both of Macomb, and Jerry (Dawn) Peters, El Paso; one daughter, Nancy (Fred) Brokaw, Raritan; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dick Peters, Boise, Idaho, and Lloyd Peters, Marshalltown, Iowa; and two sisters, Lucille Cooper, Boise, Idaho, and Marion Smed, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Everett, Don and Walter.
He had worked as a wholesale meat salesman and had also worked for Keebler as a cookie salesman. He drove a laboratory route for McDonough District Hospital and drove a bus route for Western Illinois University. He had also driven a school bus route for many years in the Macomb area. He had lived in Macomb since 1965 and was a member of the Macomb Eagles Club. He had served in the Army National Guard from 1947 until 1950.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private burial of ashes will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb at a later time.
Memorials may be made to the McDonough District Hospital hospice program.

Commodore W. "Bill" Meeks
Commodore W. "Bill” Meeks, 82, of West Point, Ill. died on Thursday, November 22, 2001 at 1:45 a.m. at his home in West Point after a brief illness.
He was born December 23, 1918 the son of Douglas and Laura (Whitlock) Meeks in Rockbridge, Ill. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1937. In January of 1941 He joined the Army Air Corp at Chanute Field, Ill. He served until his honorable discharge in December of 1943 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. On December 23, 1942 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Hudson. After his discharge he worked at Caterpillar in Peoria for 5 years. He held several other jobs before moving to West Point in 1953 where he was employed by Hancock Grain Company. He was then employed by the Electric Wheel Company in Quincy, Ill. until his retirement in 1981 as a foreman. He was a member of the American Legion in Bowen, Ill. and was past Commander. He was also a member of the West Point Christian Church for many years.
He is survived by: one daughter, Sandra Borneman of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Larry Meeks (wife Cheryl), and Stacy Meeks (wife Lienne), both of West Point; six grandchildren, Chanel Marshall, Wayne Borneman Jr., Chris Meeks, Craig Meeks, Kirsten Meeks, and Lindsey Meeks. Six great grandchildren also survive. He is also survived by three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis in 1993; twin sons in infancy; three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2001 at the West Point Christian Church with burial to follow in the West Point Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Neiser-Printy Funeral Home in Bowen from 3-8 p.m. Saturday with the family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials can be made to the West Point Christian Church or Blessing Hospice-Hancock County.

E. Caroline Markham
E. Caroline Markham, 81, Macomb, died at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 19, 1920, in McDonough County, the daughter of Hugh B. and Luella Wisslead Jeffries. She married Edgar L. Markham Jan. 29, 1941, in Macomb. He preceded her in death March 6, 1970.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann (Richard) Carlile, Macomb, and Sue Ellen (Rodney) Hodges, Augusta; eight grandchildren, Julie (Barry) Graves, Jeffrey (Melissa) Markham, Jill (Bobby) Jones, Mark McKee, Jason McKee, Caryn (Jamie) Kerker, Jerry (Trisha) Hodges and Kelly (Preston) McPeak; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Roger Markham, and one sister, Lawies Cusick.
She was a member of Blandinsville Chapter 108 of the Order of the Eastern Star, in which she served as Worthy Matron 13 times. She was a State Grand Officer in the OES and was a member of the Bushnell Rainbow Girls. At the time of her death, she had been serving as the Grand Representative of OES of Iowa. She was a member of the Bardolph Methodist Church and had managed the Kirlin's store in Macomb for many years.
The funeral and Order of the Eastern Star services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Sargent-Worthington Funeral Home, Macomb, with the Rev. Ron Green and OES Lodge officers officiating. Burial will be in the Glade City Cemetery in Blandinsville.
Memorials may be made to Blandinsville Chapter 108 OES Scholarship Fund.
