Joan Greenwood

Joan Lane Greenwood, 68, of Jacksonville died Thursday morning (May 3, 2001) at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. She was born on June 8, 1932, in rural Shelby County, the daughter of Joseph Paul and Lois Barbee Lane. She married Marion Glenn Greenwood on Oct. 24, 1957, in Decatur.
Surviving are four sons, Stanley (wife, Sheri) Greenwood of Centralia, Allen (wife, Janet) Greenwood of Woodson, Roger (wife, Mary) Greenwood of Jacksonville and Jeff (wife, Terri) Greenwood of Woodson; one daughter, JoEllen Greenwood of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, one great grandson; two brothers, Charles (wife, Nancy) Lane of Shelbyville and Bill (wife, Mary) Lane of Sarasota, Fla.; and three sisters, June (husband, David) Allen of Jacksonville, Judy (husband, Jon) Hubbard of Blue Mound and Mary Frances (husband, Raymond) Miller of San Antonio, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Norma Jean Lane.
Mrs. Greenwood was a homemaker and had been secretary to the Dean of the College at Illinois College from 1958-1962 and had also been employed at Belobradjdic Bookstore. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crafts, and most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 7 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial in Diamond Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon on Sunday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, Shriner's Children's Hospital or St. Louis Children's Hospital.

Fred Shuster
Moweaqua
Fred M. Shuster, 93, Moweaqua, died 8:40 a.m. Saturday (May 5, 2001) in St. Mary's Hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Moweaqua. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Shelby County 4H and Junior Fair Association or Moweaqua American Legion.
Mr. Shuster was born Sept. 28, 1907, in McLeansboro, the son of Mansfield and Bertha Hawthorn Shuster. He married Marie M. MePeak May 11, 1946, in McLeansboro. She preceded him in death Oct. 25, 1997.
Surviving are his sons, Carl (Carol) Shuster of Mattawan, Mich.; Robert (Diana) Shuster of Shelbyville, Tenn. Don (Evelyn) Shuster of Moweaqua; daughters, Mae Shuster (Bob) Hays of Moweaqua; Vickie Shuster (Louis) Egyud of Coraopolis, Pa.; sons, Dean (Cecile) MePeak of Troy; Val (Jan) MePeak of St. Charles; Curtis (Margie) MePeak of Dalton City; daughter, Norma MePeak Brehm of Carmi; brother, Ed (Virginia) Shuster of McLeansboro; sister, Edna Eckels of McLeansboro; 31 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter, Mary Jo MePeak Parker, parents and brothers, Frank and Joe.
He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Primitive Baptist Church, charter member of Moweaqua Lions Club and Melvin Jones Fellow and was Outstanding Farmer of Shelby County in 1973. Mr. Shuster was a member of Loyal Order of Moose of Shelbyville, one of the organizers of the Shelby County 4-H and Junior Fair board for 44 years, Shelby County Farm Bureau board member for 22 years, Shelby County Extension Council for nine years and was a member of Shelby County Milk Association 1949-1964. He was a past member of Moweaqua Farmers Co-op board and current member of Moweaqua Community Development Committee.
Fred Shuster was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather to his family. He left us on May 5 and will be missed by family and friends. Most will remember him as "King Seller" of raffle tickets for benefits. Fred also loved his games of rook at the rookery.

Donald Dance
Moweaqua
Donald E. Dance, 78, of Moweaqua, died 5:15 p.m. Saturday (May 5, 2001) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua, with Mark Weber officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with 8 p.m. Masonic rites. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Moweaqua, with military honors by Moweaqua American Legion Post 370. Memorials can be made to Kemmerer Village, Assumption.
Mr. Dance was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Paris, the son of Glen and Della Gross Dance. He married Elaine Cook Dec. 22, 1961, in Crown Point, Ind. She preceded him in death Feb. 24, 1998.
Surviving are his sons, David, Donald and Russell, all of Moweaqua; daughter, Donnette Beekett of Moweaqua; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sons, Robert and Richard, and daughter, Donna Sue.
He retired from A.E. Staley Mfg. Co. in 1981. He was a member of Moweaqua First Christian Church, Stephen Decatur 979 AF & AM, Springfield Consistory, Ansar Shrine, Springfield, Decatur Council 16, Macon Chapter 21 RAM, Beaumanoir Commandry 9 and American Legion Post 370 in Moweaqua. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Bertha Burrus
Assumption
Bertha M. Burrus, 94, formerly of Assumption, died 1:15 p.m. Saturday (May 5, 2001) at Heritage manor in Pana.
Arrangements are incomplete at Wallace-Carrol Funeral Home, Herrick.

Richard Vail
Moweaqua
Richard L. Vail, 70, of Moweaqua, died at 8:40 p.m., Saturday (May 5. 2001) in his residence.
Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at Westside Cemetery, Moweaqua with full military honors by the Macon County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Dawson & Wikoff Colonial Chapel North Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Hospital Home Health Services.
Mr. Vail was born on June 4, 1930 in Decatur, the son of Joseph and Marie (Betzer) Vail. He married Linda Sue Weakly on May 17, 1969. She preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 2000.
Surviving are his sons: Michael Vail and his wife Brenda of Springfield and Corey Vail and his wife Cathy of Bloomington; granddaughters, Nicole and Emily Vail of Springfield and Madison Vail of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
He was a retired engineer for A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company, a U.S. Air Force Korean War Veteran, and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Sharon Maxheimer
Pana
Sharon Kay Green Maxheimer, 58, Pana, died 1:45 p.m. Thursday (May 3, 2001) in her residence.
Services will be Saturday May 12 in First United Church at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Walter B. Carlson officiating. Visitation is Saturday form 2 p.m. until service time at First Methodist Church. Arrangements are by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the First united Methodist Church in Pana or the Pana Community Hospital Foundation for Hospice.
Mrs. Maxheimer was born Feb. 2, 1943 in Mt. Pulaski, the daughter of Samuel Gayland and Emagene Pearl Veech Green. She married Donald Ralph Maxheimer on Oct. 2, 1964 in Mt. Pulaski. He survives.
Also surviving are parents; children, Douglas R. Maxheimer and wife Rachelle of Taylorville, Michelle Wortel and husband Brian of Carbondale; grandchildren, Allison and Ashley Wortel; sisters, Brenda Carthel of Denton, TX. and Jacqueline Kapper of Illiopolis.
She lived in Pana since 1965. She was a Registered Nurse and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pana.

Charles Spears
Tyler, TX.
Charles Ainsworth Spears, MD, 93, of Tyler, TX., died Monday (May 7, 2001) at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, TX.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, May 11, in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville, MO. The Rev. Raymond Schultz will be officiating. Arrangements will be by Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville. No visitation is planned and the service will be closed casket.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
Dr. Spears was born Oct. 11, 1907 in Champaign, IL., the son of Charles Henry Spears, MD, and Nellie Elizabeth Ainsworth Spears. He married Mary Frances Turner at Bloomingdale, Ind., on Aug. 2, 1934, and she survives.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cole of Aurora, MO.; three sons, Charles T. Spears, DVM, Anna, IL., John H. Spears, of Tyler, and Joseph W. Spears of Austin, TX; one brother, David K. Spears of Reno, Nev.; 10 grandchildren, Sharon Davis of Overland Park, KN., Christopher Cole, Phoenix, Ariz., Cathy Williams, Sebring, Fla., Amy Smith of Anna, IL., John G. Spears of Garland, TX., Bradley Spears of Hallsville, TX., Rebecca Bledsoe of Allen TX., Lori Spears of Cedar Park, TX., Michael Spears FC2, U.S. Navy - Virginia Beach, Va., and Tonya Stroud of Nashville, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren, Cole Davis, Overland Park, Kan., Philip Davis of Overland Park, Randy Jo Williams, Sebring, Fla., Jessica Williams, Sebbring, Fla., Travis Smith of Anna, IL., Wyatt Smith of Anna, and Kirsten Allums of Hallsville, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Richard Spears; and sister, Rozanne Johnson.
He received a degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana, and his medical degree from St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO. Dr. Spears practiced medicine in Cassville, Billings, and Pierce City, MO., and Cowden and Shelbyville. He retired in 1972.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Tyler. He was a member of the Pierce City Masonic Lodge, Pierce City, MO.

Bertha Burrus
Assumption
Mrs. Bertha M. Burrus, 94, Assumption, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday (May 5, 2001) at Heritage Manor, Pana.
Funeral services will beat 11 a.m. on Friday, May 11 at Wallace-Carroll Funeral Home, Herrick, with the Rev. Lawrence Gibson officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time on Friday, May 11 at Wallace-Carroll Funeral Home. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery, Bowling Green Township Fayette County.
Memorials may be made to Assumption Christian Church.
Mrs. Burrus was born Thursday, Oct. 11 1906, in Hauwaert, Belgium, the child of Louis and Marie Goethuys. She married Paul G. Burrus in Vandalia on Saturday, Sept. 13, 1947.
She worked in defense plants in Chicago during W.W. II. Mrs. Burrus and her husband had resided in Assumption since 1936. She was a member of Assumption Christian Church and was member of Assumption Garden Club. Mrs. Burrus was known for her quilting and won many awards for her quilts. She and her husband were also active in the restoration of antique furniture.
She is survived by husband; son, Ronald, and wife, Shirlee Koetz of Marianna, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Sandy Burrus of Madison, Wis.; grandchildren, Val Rhodes of Shelbyville, Mrs. Steve (Linda) Gastelum of Vista, California, Kevin (wife, Beverly) Koetz of Joshua, TX., Mrs. Tim (Kathi) Goodwin of Ocean Springs, Miss., Kurt (Susan) of Tallahassee, Fla., Mitchell and wife, Amber, Burrus of Ohio, Danielle Burrus of Milwaukee, Wis.; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Valerie Helen Koetz, and son, John Paul Burrus; sister, O'Dell Kramer; brothers, Raymond and Robert Goethuys.

Irene Camfield
Shelbyville
Irene Camfield, 86, of Shelbyville, died at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday (May 9, 2001) in Shelbyville Manor.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with the Rev. Robert Litteral officiating. Visitation is from 1:30 p.m. Saturday until time of service. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Lincolnland Hospice.
Mrs. Camfield was born on Sept. 18, 1914 in rural Shelbyville, the daughter of John and Elsie Gilmore Rexroad. She married Birney H. Camfield on July 4, 1936,
Surviving are her husband, Birney; son, Rex Loneil Camfield and wife Judy of Mt. Zion; sister, Imogene Kull and husband Jim of Jeffersontown, KY; grandson, Mike Camfield and wife Diana of Decatur; granddaughter, Nikki Walker and husband Brit of Arlington, TX; and two great granddaughters, Sydney Kay Camfield and Elena Marie Walker.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a homemaker, enjoying her garden and her flowers.
