Adam Fulk

Adam Ross Fulk was born on September 21, 1985, in Seoul Korea.

He came to live with his forever family on April 17, 1986, in Belleville, Illinois, Adam died Saturday, October 21, 2000, while playing roller hockey, one of his true enjoyments in life.

Adam is survived by his parents, sisters, family members and friends who love him dearly.

He is sadly missed by his parents, Bill and Cindy Fulk of Belleville; sisters, Sarah and Elena, both at home; grandparents, J. Wallace Bingaman of Mattoon, Illinois; Arthur and Joanne Fulk of Noble, Illinois; Uncle Mark and Aunt Debby Ferguson and cousins Jay, Katherine, and Jennifer Ferguson, all of Mattoon, Illinois, Uncle Gary and Aunt Kate Fulk and cousins Josh, Chris, Kyle, Jessie, and Chelsea all of Noble, Illinois; Uncle Kevin and Aunt Cindy Rhoads and cousins Austin and Haley, all of Noble, Illinois.

Adam also is missed by Aunt Lisa and Uncle Doug Kessler and Grandma Jean Anderson.

He is especially missed by his best friend since pre-school, Kristopher Uptmore Bingaman.

Adam was an honor student and was proud to be a freshman at Belleville East High School. He was a graduate of Belleville East High School. He was a graduate of the Belle Valley School system. He was a member of the Spanish Club, the Mustangs Roller Hockey Team of Oak Hill, and assistant coach at Fun Spot Roller Hockey and a member of St. Peter's Cathedral Catholic Church.

Adam love playing roller hockey, soccer, and N64, listening to music, going to school, watching WWF, and spending time with family and friends. His special interests were animals, math, and science.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bensenville Home Society Foreign Adoption Program 406 May St. Bensenville, IL 60106, or memorial masses at St. Peter's Cathedral, Belleville, IL.

Visitation: 4:00 PM­9:00 PM Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at the George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at St. Peter's Cathedral.

Burial will be in Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

Helen Jacobsen

SHELBYVILLE - Helen Hovey Lloyd Jacobsen, 96, of Shelbyville, formerly of Mattoon, died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 21, 2000) in Heartland Christian Village in Neoga.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Dr. Bruce Owens officiating.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. till time of service.

Interment will be at a later date in Oak Mound Cemetery in Santa Rosa, Calif.

She was born Nov. 17, 1903, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Charles C. and Grace Auld Lloyd.

She married William McKinley Jacobsen in 1948; he died in 1955.

Survivors include a brother, Charles Walter Lloyd of Shelbyville; and a sister, Virginia Lloyd Whitcomb of Santa Rosa, Calif.

She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Mrs. Jacobsen was a nurse in Colorado, California and at the geriatrics department at Shelby Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heartland Christian Village in Neoga or a church of donor's choice.

George Maxey

OLNEY - George Allen Maxey, 69, of Olney, died at 2:25 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at his residence.

The funeral will be 7 p.m. today at the Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, with Brother Don Houdesheltd officiating.

A graveside service with military rites will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, with the Rev. David Beerbower officiating.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born Jan. 27, 1931, in Casey, the son of Jesse James Maxey and Flora Ethel Biggs Maxey.

He married Norma Faye Miller in 1951. He later married Georgia Loy.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Maxey Sr. of Olney and Rick Maxey of Patoka; three daughters, Linda Michl of Oblong and Sheryl Park and Connie Maxey both of Olney; one brother, Victor Maxey of Casey; two sisters, Ester Grant of Casey and Naomi Bradford of Kansas; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister.

Mr. Maxey was a heavy equipment diesel mechanic and truck driver for Dittamore at Teutopolis, Atkins and Duframes at Newton and for Parker Brothers in Oblong.

He was a member of the Willis Chapel Church of God in Martinsville and the Eagles Club in Olney.

He was a former member of the Newton VFW, the Robinson Moose Lodge 1369.

Memorials may be made to the George Allen Maxey Memorial Fund.

Zedla F. Phipps

MATTOON - Zelda F. Phipps, age 81, of Mattoon, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2000 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2000 at Dodge Grove Cemetery with Dr. Mark Prevo officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Zelda F. Phipps was born February 10, 1919 in Richland County, Illinois, a daughter of Edgar and Carrie Avice Leist Crites.

She married her husband of 63 years, Vernon T. Phipps June 26, 1937 at Olney, Illinois, he survives.

Also surviving are her daughter, Shelby Runyen and husband Loy of Dundas, Illinois; grandchildren, Debbie Weiler and husband Bill of Claremont and Dewayne Runyen and wife Pam of Olney.

Two great-grandchildren, Erin Weiler and Derek Weiler also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

Mrs. Phipps was a member of First Christian Church, Mattoon and was a former employee of American Pad and Paper in Mattoon.

Dean Slater

CASEY - Dean Slater, 91, of Casey, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 22, 2000) in Heartland Manor Nursing Home, Casey.

No service is planned.

Burial will be in Baird Cemetery, Martinsville.

The Greenwell Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

He was born April 13, 1909, in Martinsville, a son of Charles and Neoma Weir Slater.

Survivors include one brother, Dale Slater of Marshall; and one sister, Opal Washburn of Casey.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Mr. Slater was retired from the Marathon Oil Company and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II.

Mary Binford

MATTOON - Mary A. Binford, 94, of Mattoon, died at 4:05 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 19, 2000) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Dodge Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Wilford Stevenson officiating.

No visitation will be conducted.

The Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born May 9, 1906, in Mississippi, the daughter of Willie and Millie Alexander Johnson.

She married Sam Binford; he preceded her in death.

Surviving are five grandchildren, Roxie Dixon, Robert Jones, and Murray, Arthur and April Dixon, all of Mattoon, and five great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two daughters and two sisters.

Mrs. Binford was a member of the Second Baptist Church.

Phyllis Ann (Waggoner) Ferguson

CHARLESTON, IL - Phyllis Ann (Waggoner) Ferguson, age 65, of Neoga and formerly of Charleston, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2000 at her Lake Mattoon home.

Services celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 23 with Reverend Lana Robyne officiating.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 -5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 22.

Services and visitation will he held at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston.

Interment will be in Zion Hill Cemetery, near Lake Paradise southwest of Mattoon.

Phyllis was born February 19, 1935 in Mattoon, Illinois the seventh of ten daughters of Glen Waggoner and Olive Ruth Coen Waggoner Golden.

She married Richard Dale Ferguson in Coles County, Illinois on January 19, 1954. He survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Deb Pauls and her husband Hank of Charleston and Paula Ferguson of Mattoon; nine grandchildren, Alisha Brown, Morgan Brown, Tyler Dulumback, Amanda Barker and Brandon Barker, all of Charleston, Justin Brown, Samantha Coen, Octavia Uella Mae Swango and Octavian Trenton Dale Swango, all of Mattoon; two great grandchildren, Evan Barker and Brenden Barker, both of Charleston; eight sisters, Virginia (Genny) Rackley and her husband Clarence of Onarga, Illinois, Rita (Bede) Brniak of Chicago, Delores (Dodo) Hart of Mattoon, Irma Swierk of Neoga, Illinois, Pauline (Birdie) Ariel of Decatur, Michigan, Audrey Alford and her husband Robert of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Doris Wenzel and her husband Harry of Mahomet and Vera Barber and her husband William of Anchorage, Alaska; two sister-in-laws, Beatrice Waggoner of Mattoon and Shirley Waggoner of Rockford, Illinois.

She was preceded by her parents, one sister, Mary Margaret (Margie) Hickmott and two brothers, Carl Waggoner and Jesse Waggoner.

Phyllis was very involved in her church and its activities, from working with the young in Vacation Bible School to the various women's organizations. Her and Richard were generous to others including serving as foster parents for a number of years. Their home was often referred to as a "revolving door," always ready to feed family and friends, and many were served on many occasions as family meals were treasured by her as some of her most meaningful and joyful times.

She was a Co-Author of "The Ten Sisters," a true story of her and her sisters lives.

She was an Elvis Presley fan who also enjoyed sewing and gardening. Many will remember her from her days of employment at Family Pharmacy and Prahl's Greenhouse. Phyllis was dearly loved, will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her family, friends and spiritual family.

Memorials in honor of this special woman may be made to Lincolnland Visiting Nurses, Lincolnland Hospice, Cunningham Children's Home or the family, in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

Emma Haslett

SULLIVAN - Emma D. Haslett, 98, of Sullivan, died at 6:20 a.m. Friday (Oct. 20, 2000) at the Illinois Masonic Home, Sullivan.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Illinois Masonic Home Chapel, Sullivan.

A graveside service will be noon Monday at the Maplewood Cemetery, St. Elmo.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the Masonic Chapel.

The Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan, is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born Feb. 27, 1902, in Fayette County.

She married Harold F. Haslett; he died in 1989.

Surviving are two sons, Revis D. Haslett and Randel Haslett.

Ione Jeffries

NORTHBROOK - Ione Jeffries, 100, of Northbrook, formerly of Charleston, died Thursday (Oct. 19, 2000).

A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Indian Cemetery, Charleston.

A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brandel Care Center Chapel, Northbrook.

The Hanekamp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born Sept. 7, 1900, in Charleston, the daughter of Thomas Allison and Martha Louella Miller.

She married John H. Jeffries; he preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, John Allison Jeffries of Chicago; one daughter, Patricia Hagman of Rockford; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jeffries was a teacher.

Memorials may be made to the Covenant Village, Northbrook, in her name.

Rev. Dorfus May

HINDSBORO - The Rev. Dorfus A. May, 87, of Hindsboro, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 19, 2000) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

His body was donated to science.

No service will be conducted.

The Taber Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born March 27, 1913, in Metropolis, the son of Harry and Lillian Wilkins May.

He married Edith L. Bashford in 1943; she survives.

Also surviving is one sister, Gail Woods of Kankakee.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

The Rev. May was a minister for 55 years, pastoring 12 different churches in Illinois. He was pastor of the Hindsboro Chapel for 30 years.

Memorials may be made to the Haven of Rest, Repair Fund, Hindsboro.
