Winona K. "Nonie" Lampe

MATTOON - Winona K. "Nonie" Lampe, age 65, of Mattoon, passed away 10:30 a.m. Sunday, February 4, 2001 at her residence.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2001 at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, with Reverend Richard Coen officiating.

Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to services.

Winona K. Lampe was born March 12, 1935 at Mattoon, Illinois.

She married Eugene R. "Red" Lampe September 15, 1961 at Alameda, California, he survives.

Also surviving are her children, Ivan Lampe of Mattoon, Stephen Lampe and his wife Brenda of Mattoon and Theresia "Teri" Lampe of Phoenix, Arizona.

A brother, George Floyd and his wife Rita of Gays and grandchildren, Jacob, Cory, Molly, Brandon, Natasha and Kaylynn also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Esther Floyd and one sister, Iona Hughes.

Mrs. Lampe was a member of the Smyser Christian Church.

She was a member of the Women of the Moose, the VFW Auxiliary and the ALANO Club.

She was a former employee of the Brown Shoe Company and was a loving homemaker.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincolnland Hospice.

Estaline Miller

Estaline Miller, Age 96, of Greenup, Illinois passed away at 8:45 PM - Saturday, February 3, 2001 at Heartland Manor Nursing Home in Casey, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM - Thursday, February 8, 2001 at the Bishop Funeral Home in Greenup, Illinois with Rev. Tim Schautz officiating.

Burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery in Greenup, Illinois.

Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at the Bishop Funeral Home in Greenup, Illinois.

Estaline was born in Cumberland County, Illinois on September 22, 1904 the daughter of David and Gertrude (Mattoon) Miller.

Miss Miller was a third Grade Teacher for 45 years, she taught at the Little Brown School near Hazel Dell for two years and at Montrose.

Estaline was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenup, Illinois.

She was also a member of the Cumberland County Historic Society, Greenup Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and a charter member of the Civic Club.

Estaline is survived by: Sister, Marjorie Tracey of Geneva, Illinois; Nephew, Michael Tracey of Sheridan, Illinois; Great-Nieces, Sara Tracey of Batavia, Illinois and Elizabeth Tracey of Greenup, Illinois.

Estaline was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Ralph Tracey.

Robert O'Donnell

MATTOON - Robert E. O'Donnell, 63, of Mattoon, formerly of Chicago, died at 3 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 4, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

A graveside service will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Palestine Cemetery with Father Richard Weltin officiating.

The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born June 17, 1937, in Chicago, the son of Henry O'Donnell and Estelle Novak O'Donnell.

He married Audrey Biggs in 1978; she survives.

Also surviving are one brother, Thomas O'Donnell of Burbank, and two sisters, Carol Krupowicz of Oaklawn and Elaine Zahorsky of Berwyn.

Mr. O'Donnell was manager of a motel in Chicago for several years.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

Memorials may be made to the Robert O'Donnell memorial fund c/o the Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine.

Robert Swisher

MARTINSVILLE - Robert "Gene" Swisher, 77, of Martinsville, died at 11:43 a.m. Monday (Feb. 5, 2001) at Mattoon Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwell Funeral Home, Martinsville, with Pastor Dan Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, with military graveside rites by Martinsville American Legion Post 515.

No visitation is planned.

He was born Jan. 21, 1924, in Hindsboro, the son of Frank and Sylvia Hale Swisher.

He married Evelyn Ghere. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, David Swisher of Marshall; three daughters, Brenda Littlejohn of Omaha, Neb., Barb Harris of Springfield and Deb Wineinger of Clinton, Ind.; one brother, Jack Swisher of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Margaret Combs of Hindsboro and Phyllis Rose of Plant City, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Swisher was a retired building contractor and a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Martinsville American Legion Post 515, the Greenup VFW Post and the Greenup Sportsmen's Club.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

James B. "Jim" Upchurch

MATTOON - James B. "Jim" Upchurch, age 66, of Mattoon, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2001 at Douglas Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2001 at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. to service time.

James B. Upchurch was born July 17, 1934, at Taylorville, Illinois, a son of Paul and Edna Alexander Upchurch.

He married Sue Ryan (Pridemore) April 26, 1974, she survives as well as a step-daughter, Lisa Williamson of Champaign.

He also leaves a brother, George Upchurch and his wife Natalie of Taylorville; sisters, Bea Buchanan and her husband Alan and Joyce Ann Miller and her husband Gerald all of Taylorville and three grandsons, Phillip and Vinny Upchurch at home and Derek Williamson of Champaign as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert and one sister.

Mr. Upchurch founded Upchurch and Associates in 1970 operating offices in Mattoon, Hillside and Decatur and attended St. John's Lutheran Church.

He was a graduate of the University of Illinois where he was a member of the Triangle Engineering Fraternity of architects, scientists and engineers.

Jim was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Springfield, Ansar Shrine of Springfield and the Cornbelt Shrine Club.

He was a member and served on the boards of numerous engineering, environmental and surveying organizations.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Lincolnland Hospice in lieu of flowers.

James Buckley

James R. Buckley, 71, of Mattoon died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday (February 3, 2001) in his residence.

Mr. Buckley was born December 18, 1929 in Moultrie Co., IL the son of A.D. and Belle Hollenbeck Buckley.

He married Ellen Bence January 20, 1950 in Shelbyville and she preceded him in death August 18, 1977.

He then married Ramona Mize February 1, 1984 in Urbana.

He was a radio maintainer for the New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail railroads for 43 years retiring in 1994.

He was a veteran of the US Army, member of the American Legion of Mattoon, the Eagles of Mattoon, member of the Blue Lodge and the Cornbelt Shrine Club of Mattoon and the Ansar Temple of Springfield.

He was also a member of the Illinois State Stock Horse Association serving as assistant director for this area for many years.

He participated in over 25-100 mile trail rides and enjoyed camping and riding his faithful horse BO.

Surviving are his wife, Ramona; daughter, Julia Abell and husband Jeff; granddaughters, Kimberly and Katie of Humboldt; son, Jim Buckley, Jr. of Colorado Springs, Co.; grandson, Ryan Wertz of Morton and granddaughter, Ashley Wertz of Pekin; step-daughters, Julie Howard and husband Russ; grandsons, Troy and Travis of Effingham, Brenda Tennill and husband Marc, grandsons, Ryan and Chad of St. Joseph and Christine Mize of Murphysboro; sisters, Fern Thompson of Shumway and Hollice Yunker of Sullivan and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Daisy Seeley Buckley; two brothers; and a daughter, Jacki Park.

Family and friends may gather at the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor by 11:00 a.m. Wednesday for a brief prayer service before graveside services at Ash Grove Cemetery, near Windsor by Rev. Ron Dickinson and Rev. Eugene Black.

There will be no visitation.

The family requests no flowers and donations may be made to the Lincolnland Hospice or the Camp New Hope, 1364 Co. Rd. 100 E., Mattoon, IL

Jack Crockett

SULLIVAN - R. Jack Crockett, 76, of Sullivan, died at 2:00 p.m., February 3, 2001, in the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be with military rites in Green Hill Cemetery, Sullivan.

Memorials: Moultrie County Chapter American Heart Association or the Sullivan Civic Center.

He was born on March 10, 1924, in Sullivan, the son of Blonson and Maurine Wilson Crockett.

He was a WW II Army veteran. Retired Supervisor of the Illinois Department of Transportation, member of American Legion Post #68, Sullivan, Lifetime member of Teamsters Local #26.

Surviving are sons, Allen Crockett and wife Carolyn, Mike E., Bob and Lance Cockett all of Sullivan; brother, Frances Crockett of Sullivan; sister, Peggy Fleming of Sullivan; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Holly Cutts

TOLEDO - Holly E. Cutts, 89, of Toledo died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 4, 2001) at Cumberland Nursing Center, Greenup.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Barkley Funeral Home in Toledo.

Lola Davis

WEST UNION - Lola May Davis, 95, of West Union died at 11: 50 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 4, 2001) at Burnsides Nursing Home in Marshall.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the West Union Christian Church with Tom Cooperider officiating.

Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel in West Union and one hour prior to the service at the church.

She was born July 30, 1905, in Clark County, the daughter of Harry S. Ogle and Kattie Saiter Ogle.

She married Harold R. Davis; he died in 1984.

Survivors include one daughter, Margie Martin of rural West Union; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son.

Mrs. Davis had worked at Colonial Kitchen in Marshall, TRW, Inc. in Marshall and with in-home nursing care.

She was a member of the West Union Christian Church and the Clark County Republican Women's Club.

Charles Esgar

Charles Henry Esgar, 86, of Arcola, IL, formerly of Tuscola and Verona, IL, passed away at 6:20 a.m. Sunday, February 04, 2001, at his residence rural Arcola, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2001 at the Park Street Congregation United Church of Christ in Mazon, IL.

Rev. Robert Nolen will officiate.

Burial will be in the Mazon Brookside Cemetery in Mazon, IL.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2001 with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home 221 E. Main St., Arcola, IL.

A visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church in Mazon, IL.

Charles was born on December 10, 1914, in Verona, IL.

He was a son of William J. and Alice (Harper) Esgar.

He married Carolyn Estelle Jewett on Sept. 27, 1942 in Verona, IL at the Zion Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Carolyn Esgar of Arcola, IL; four sons, John W. Esgar and his wife Kathy of Ely, MN, Daniel C. Esgar and his wife Sandy of Lafayette, IN, James R. Esgar and his wife Beverly of Charleston, IL, Ralph W. Esgar and his wife Cheri of Champaign, IL; two daughters, LuAnn Victor and her husband Joseph of Tuscola, IL, Adele Shafer and her husband Steve of Arcola, IL; ten grandchildren, Janelle, Jenni and Jeff Esgar, Amy and Dave Esgar, Jenna and Benji Esgar, Erin and Carrie Victor, Lauren Shafer; two brothers, William J. Esgar and his wife Ethel of Lockport, IL and Paul W. Esgar of Morris, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Edward, George and Ralph Esgar.

Charles was a member of the First Christian Church in Tuscola, IL.

Charles raised his family on a grain and livestock farm in Verona, IL until 1973.

He and his family moved to Arcola in 1973 and a year later moved to Tuscola, IL, where they lived for 22 years.

He worked at Rockome Gardens and later at Tuscola First National Bank as a custodian.

Charles was an avid gardener. Raising cucumbers and turnips and many other vegetables he found great joy in sharing the harvest with his family and friends and some restaurants.

He also enjoyed raising pets and livestock.

Charles was a strong man of faith making it easy to be a living husband, father and grandfather.

He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Memorials may be made to Lincolnland Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
