Goldie Mariner

SULLIVAN - Goldie M. Mariner, 73, of Lovington formerly of Sullivan, died at 10:48 a.m. Tuesday (April 3, 2001) in Sullivan Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan, with the Rev. Dr. David Leslie officiating.

Burial will be Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to donor's choice.

Goldie was born September 17, 1928, in McLeansboro, Illinois, the daughter of Renna and Imogene Weaver Taylor.

She had been a secretary at the Moultrie County ASC office and was a member of the Sullivan First Christian Church.

She married John W. Mariner on April 5, 1952 in Sullivan.

Surviving are her husband John W. of Lovington; sons, Kent Allen Mariner of Sullivan, Scott Lee Mariner of Peoria, Illinois; sisters, Mrs. Don (Judy) Beebe of Peoria, Arizona and Mrs. Dick (Patty) Cast of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Donald Mingus

CHARLESTON - Donald Mingus, 23, of Charleston, died at 2:39 a.m. Tuesday (April 3, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Caudill-King Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Mound Cemetery.

No visitation is planned.

He was born Dec. 11, 1927, in Coles County, the son of Byon and Shelly LeGrand Mingus.

Surviving are two sisters, Mary Agnes Scott of Byron and Viola Janes of Chatham.

He was preceded in death by four brothers.

Mr. Mingus had been a resident at Prairie View for many years.

Mary Myers

GREENUP - Mary Lois Myers, 73, of Greenup, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday (April 3, 2001) at her residence.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday (April 5, 2001) at the Barkley Funeral Home in Greenup.

Burial will be in Greenup Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born May 28, 1927, in Hidalgo, a daughter of Frank and Barbara (Shotts) Carrico.

She married Golden Myers on August 14, 1946; he preceded her in death in 1974.

Survivors include sons, James and Mark Myers both of Greenup; two sisters, Mamie Isley of Casey and Thelma Keller of Greenup; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Stephen Myers in 1998, five brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Myers retired from Kern Manufacturing Company in Neoga and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Greenup VFW Auxiliary.

BARBARA A. PROCTOR

CHARLESTON, IL - Barbara A. Proctor, age 63, of Charleston, was embraced by her Heavenly Father on Monday, April 2, 2001 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Services celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 6 at the Bushton Christian Church with Reverend Don Pruiett officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston.

Following the services, interment will be held at Fairland Cemetery in Fairland, Illinois.

Barbara was born January 25, 1938 in Fairland, Illinois the daughter of Oliver C. and Ellen Wells.

She married Kennard D. Proctor on November 20, 1960 in Oakland, Illinois.

She is survived by her husband Kennard of Charleston; one son, Ken D. Proctor, Jr. and his fiance Debbie Koffman of Lake Worth, Florida; one daughter, Megan Przygoda and her husband Don of Charleston; four grandchildren, Gabe Przygoda, Isaac Przygoda, Noah Przygoda and Sam Przygoda, all of Charleston; three sisters, Mary Davis and her husband Bob of Newman, Illinois, Joan Thomas and her husband Charlie of Longview, Illinois and Lois Bryant and her husband Roy of Crawfordsville, Indiana and one brother, James Wells and his wife Judy of Fairland.

She was preceded by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Barbara was a Registered Nurse and most recently, was on the staff at Odd-Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon.

Previously she worked for Dr. C. E. Whalen, Dr. L. R. Montemayor and Dr. Charles Ramsey.

She was a graduate of Villa Grove High School and received her R.N. at the Mercy School of Nursing in Urbana.

Barbara was a member of the Bushton Christian Church and was actively involved with Project Life.

She was a devoted member of the nursing profession, and received great satisfaction from helping others.

She enjoyed family celebrations, traveling, camping and planting trees and flowers.

Her family will warmly remember her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Barbara's family requests that memorials in her honor be made to the Bushton Christian Church.

Memorials may be made at the service or visitation, or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

Roy Wheeler

NEOGA - Roy Edward Wheeler, age 98, of Neoga, formerly of Elkton, Ky., died at 3:27 a.m. Tuesday (April 3, 2001) at the Heartland Christian Village in Neoga.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Latham Funeral Home in Elkton, Ky., with Dr. Michael Simonella officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, rural Elkton, Ky.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The Schilling Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

He was born Oct. 8, 1902, in Todd County, Ky., the son of Edward Albert Wheeler Jr. and Maggie Stratton Wheeler.

He married Ola Groves in 1927; she died in 1999.

Surviving are three sons, Alton Wheeler of Greenville, Ky., Jim Wheeler of Beaver Dam, Ky., and Ed Wheeler of Mattoon; two daughters, Dorothy Laster and Sue Clark, both of Mattoon; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, three brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Wheeler was formerly employed with the Kentucky State Department of Transportation.

He had retired from farming in 1966.

He was a member of the New Hope Church in Clifty, Ky.

Memorials may be made to the Heartland Christian Village in Neoga or to the Central Community Church in Mattoon.

Winifred Bingaman

NEOGA, IL - Winifred "Winnie" Bingaman, 100, of Neoga, IL, died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Convalescent Care Center in Mattoon, IL.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today, April 3, at the Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home, Neoga, IL, with the Rev. Richard Coen of Neoga officiating.

Burial will be in Zion Hill Cemetery, Paradise Twp., Coles County, IL.

Visitation will be 2 hours before the service at the funeral home.

She was born June 22, 1900 in Cumberland County, IL, the daughter of Fred N. and Lucy (Hunter) Buchanan.

She married T. Clifford Bingaman on May 1, 1922 in Neoga, IL; he died on May 14, 1954.

Survivors include former daughter-in-law, Earnestine (Bingaman) Brown of Windsor, IL; brother, Louis Buchanan and wife Lois of Neoga, IL; granddaughters, Rebecca Hancock and husband John of Mattoon, IL, and Mrs. Brenda Tull of Decatur, IL; great-grandchildren, Heather Wright of Mt. Zion, IL and Kim Hancock of Mattoon, IL; step grandchildren, John Knox of Sullivan, IL, Jim Knox of Windsor, IL, Phyllis Seymour of Arthur, IL and Sandra Phipps of Sullivan, IL; seven step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Miles Bingaman; two brothers; three sisters; and one great-grandson.

Mrs. Bingaman was the first lady to be elected Township Clerk and held that office for over 20 years, she also taught school for three years.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Neoga, IL, was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Neoga, IL where she had been a member for 40 years, was a former member of the Azure Rebekah Lodge in Neoga, IL.

Memorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church in Neoga, IL or to Heartland Christian Village of Neoga, IL.

Idella Bunten

MATTOON - Idella Wilma Bunten, 82, of Mattoon, formerly of Oakland, died at 5:51 a.m. Monday (April 2, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Taber Funeral Home, Oakland, with Russell Witmer officiating.

Burial will be in Embarras Cemetery, west of Redmon.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

She was born Dec. 28, 1918, in rural Edgar County, the daughter of Harry E. and Helen Martin Fulwider.

She married John Armstrong in 1940; he died in 1968. She married Russell Kincade in 1971; he died in 1995.

She married Archie Bunten in 1998; he survives.

Also surviving are two sons, David Armstrong of Springville, Tenn., and Stephen Armstrong of Charleston, and two grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son and one brother.

Mrs. Bunten had worked as a dental assistant for several years.

She was a member of the Redmon Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to the Redmon Christian Church.

Edward Costello

PORT ORANGE, Fla. - Edward "Bud" Costello, 81, of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Trilla, died Monday morning (April 2, 2001) at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home.

Harold Ghere

ARCOLA - Harold Garber Ghere, 83, of Arcola, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday (April 2, 2001) at Mattoon Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Edwards Funeral Home, Arcola, with the Rev. Donald Winch officiating.

Burial with military rites by Arcola VFW Post 7862 will be in the Arcola Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born July 20, 1917, in Douglas County, the son of Perry Ward and Florence Garber Ghere.

He married Rilda Virginia Bright in 1942; she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Kenneth Ghere of Cerro Gordo; one daughter, Virginia "Jenny" Osborn of Arcola; one brother, Bob Ghere of Arcola; three sisters, Joyce Hancock of Arcola, Margaret VanCleave of Tuscola and Evelyn Swisher of Martinsville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Mr. Ghere worked at the Thomas Monahan Co. in Arcola and operated Arcola Shoe Repair for a short time.

He retired in 1981 as a maintenance supervisor from Equistar Chemicals, formerly USI, in Tuscola.

Mr. Ghere then worked at Bulk-Tek in Arcola.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the First Christian Church of Arcola.

Memorials may be made to the Arcola Sports Boosters.
