MARTHA THOMPSON

Martha J. Thompson 69, of 1617 A St. S. W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died
Tuesday (Oct. 16, 2001) at St. Lukes Hospital following a short illness.
Services will be 3 p.m. today at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories
by Rev. David Young of Hope Lutheran Church. Friends may call at the
Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories after noon today. Arrangements are
with the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.

Surviving are her husband Roger; 2 daughters, Linda Henselmeier and
husband Gary of Martinsville, Indiana and Kathleen Inman and husband
Donald of Mattoon, Illinois; 2 brothers, Glen Murphy Sr. and Bill Boaz,
both of Charleston, Illinois; 8 grandchildren, Joseph Inman, James Inman,
Barry Inman, Ana Inman, Andrew Inman, Elizabeth Inman, Douglas
Henselmeier and Christopher Henselmeier, and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Naomi Ely and
Nancy Potter.

Martha was born January 22, 1932 at Charleston, Illinois and was married
to Roger Thompson on November 23, 1974 in Mattoon, Illinois. She
formerly was employed by Al's Alley Inn and Merchants National Bank.

A memorial fund in her name has been established.

Wilbur Tipsword

CHARLESTON - Wilbur Merle Tipsword, 79, of Charleston, died
Thursday (Oct. 18, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Arrangements are incomplete at Adams Funeral Chapel.

Electa Williams

KANSAS - Electa Marie Williams, 82, of Kansas, died at 10:45 a.m.
Wednesday (Oct. 17, 2001) at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Kansas Christian Church. Burial
will be in Harmony Cemetery north of Kansas. Visitation will be 4 to 8
p.m. Sunday at the church. The Sutton and Son Funeral Funeral Home is
in charge of arrangements.

She was born March 9, 1919, in Kansas, the daughter of James Wilbur
Honn and Winona Honnold Honn. She married Kenneth Williams in 1946;
he died in 1989.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Williams of Kansas; two daughters, Kenda
Bond of Washington and Linda Freeman of Lake Towaway, N.C.; eight
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one brother.

Mrs. Williams was a retired teacher. She had taught in Newman,
Edwardsville and Kansas. She was a member of the Kansas Christian
Church, the D.A.R of Paris and the Edgar County Farm Bureau.

Memorials may be made to the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Charleston, c/o
Sutton and Son Funeral Home, Paris.

Phyllis Abrams

MATTOON - Phyllis Elaine Abrams, 63, of Mattoon, died at 1 p.m.
Wednesday (Oct. 17, 2001) at Provena Covenant Medical Center in
Urbana.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Schilling Funeral Home. Burial
will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m.
Friday at the funeral home.

She was born July 20, 1938, in Lawrenceville, the daughter of Marley and
Iva Newlin Waldrop. She married Tom Abrams in 1958; he survives.

Other survivors include one son, Rick E. Abrams of Mattoon, and one
daughter, Terri A. Stabler of Mattoon.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Mrs. Abrams worked as the finance manager for Midwest Auto.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church.

Cynthia Bassett

TUSCOLA - Cynthia Clarice Bassett, 35, of Tuscola, died at 8:10 p.m.
Tuesday (Oct. 16, 2001) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral
Home, Tuscola, with the Rev. Joe Carter officiating. Burial will be in
Tuscola Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born May 5, 1966, in Mattoon, the daughter of John Ervin and
Judy Dallas. She married David Bassett in 1997; he survives.

Other survivors include her father of Mattoon; her mother, Judy Adams of
Tuscola; one son, Chase Bassett of Tuscola; two daughters, Tisha Bryson
and Chantelle Bassett, both of Tuscola; two stepsons, Blake and Jesse
Bassett, both of Tuscola; one brother, Richard Ervin of Tuscola; two
sisters, Jennifer Clark of Tuscola and Crystal Adams of Rantoul; maternal
grandmother, Clarice Dallas of Tuscola; and paternal grandmother, Leone
Ervin of Mattoon.

She was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandfathers.

Mrs. Bassett was a registered nurse for Carle Home Services, Champaign.
She attended the Tuscola Church of the Nazarene.

Memorials may be made to the Bassett Children's Memorial Fund c/o
Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola.

FLOYD "SHORTY" BUNCH

CHARLESTON, IL - Floyd Duane "Shorty" Bunch, age 73, passed away
on Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October,
20 (2001) with Pastor Robert Younts serving as officiant. Visitation will be
held Friday evening from 5-7. Services and Visitation will be held at Adams
Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston. Interment, with Military
Rites conducted by the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul
McVey Post 1592, will follow the services at Roselawn Cemetery,
Charleston.

Shorty was born October 8, 1928 in Coles County, Illinois, the son of
George and Stella (Lanham) Bunch. On March 1, 1958, he married Millie
Gilbert in Cumberland County, Illinois.

He is survived by Millie his loving wife of forty-three plus years; one
daughter, Jayna Hall and her husband Ray of Mattoon, Illinois; two
grandsons, Brett Hall and Adam Hall, both of Mattoon; one sister, June
Ray of Mattoon; and three brothers, Sam Bunch and his wife Ruth of
Charleston, Preston Bunch and his wife Jean of Decatur, Illinois and
George "Junior" Bunch and his wife Charlotte of Pahrump, Nevada. He
was preceded by his parents; one grandson, Zachary Hall; and two
brothers, Glenn Bunch and Byrum Bunch.

Shorty never knew a stranger, was widely known for always handing out
jelly beans when meeting someone and was most capable of playing pranks
and did so, in most instances, with success. He was a happy man with a
tremendous capacity for humor whose trademark was his laugh. Those
fortunate enough to know him quickly realized the power of a good laugh, a
characteristic certain to kindle warm and pleasant memories of him for
many years to come. Yet, his ability to laugh and make others enjoy the
moment were overshadowed by his genuine respect for others and his love
and compassion for his family.

He was a member of the First Church of God in Charleston and a lifetime
member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post 1592 of
Charleston. Many will remember him as a Sidelaster with the former
Charleston Brown Shoe Company facility or as a 20 year Building Service
Worker at Eastern Illinois University. He was a Military Veteran, having
served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed fishing,
hunting and attempting to spoil his grandsons.

Shorty's family requests that memorial gifts in his honor be made to the
Sarah Bush Lincoln Cancer Center or the First Church of God of
Charleston. Memorial gifts may be made at the Visitation or Services, or
mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL
61920.

Freeda Beaumont-Wampler

BLOOMINGTON - Freeda M. Beaumont-Wampler, 89, of Bloomington,
died Tuesday (Oct. 16, 2001) at Bloomington Hospital.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Liberty Church of Christ with
Brother Robert Fenton officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery,
Hendricksville. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Allen Funeral
Home and from noon until service time Friday at the church.

She was born May 12, 1912, in Monroe County, the daughter of Omer and
Gladys Keller Hendricks. She married Raymond Beaumont; he died in
1983. She married Alva L. Wampler; he survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Russell D. Beaumont of Bloomington
and Jerry W. Beaumont of Mattoon; two daughters, Peggy Langley and
Marsha Jolly, both of Bloomington; one sister, Roxie Yearly of
Bloomington; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Beaumont-Wampler worked at Sarkes Tarzian Corp. and the
Highland Village Laundry in Bloomington. She was a member of the
Liberty Church of Christ in Hendricksville and the Cross Roads
Community Workers Home Economics Club.

Memorials may be made to the Liberty Church of Christ in Hendricksville.

Kathryn Robertson

CHARLESTON - Kathryn C. Robertson, of Charleston, died at 7:18 p.m.
Tuesday (Oct. 16, 2001) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Caudill-King Funeral Home.

Electa Williams

KANSAS - Electa Marie Williams, 82, of Kansas, died at 10:45 a.m.
Wednesday (Oct. 17, 2001) at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Sutton and Son Funeral Home, Kansas.

MARGARET WILLIAMS

Margaret Grace Williams, age 90, of Palm Bay, Florida, formerly of
Mattoon, passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at
the I.H.S. of Palm Bay, Florida.

Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at
the Schilling Funeral Home with Captain Fred Wakefield officiating. Burial
will be in the Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00
p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Margaret was born August 3, 1911, in Mattoon, a daughter of William
Harrison and Leona Anne McNeely Lewis. She married Ova L. Williams
on October 24, 1930. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1978. She was
also preceded in death by three sons, Russell Lowell Williams, Cecil Glenn
Williams and one infant son, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and
one brother.

Survivors include two sons, Morris Wesley Williams and wife Esther of
Palm Bay, Florida and David L. Williams and wife Rose Mary of Windsor;
three daughters, Mary Page and husband Ray of Pinson, Alabama, Ruby
Helm and husband James of Mattoon, Martha Brown and husband Clifford
of McCleansboro; one brother, Richard Stark of West Braden Springs,
Indiana; one sister, Delores Bullock of New Mexico; twenty-six
grandchildren, fifty-seven great-grandchildren, and ten
great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Williams was a homemaker. She was a soldier of the Salvation Army
and was also a member of the Home League of the Salvation Army.
