Joan Fritch

Joan Fritch, 63, of the Glendale community of Simpson, died 10:35 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2000 at Harrisburg Medical Center. She was born Feb. 3, 1937, to Melvin and Murial (Manderschide) Ryan.
She married Dale Fritch April 6, 1963. He survives.
She was a homemaker, and attended three years of college following high school. She was a member of Glendale United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Douglas Fritch and wife, Diane of Centralia and Ryan Fritch and wife, Misty of Rosebud; a daughter Yvonne and husband, Don Straeter of Carlyle; one brother, John Ryan of Dubuque, Iowa; one sister, Marce Welsh of Dubuque, Iowa; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. today, Monday June 19, 2000, at Glendale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Abel officiating. Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 18 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville and 9:30 to 11 a.m. today at Glendale United Methodist Church. Burial was in Glendale Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Glendale United Methodist Church or Glendale Cemetery.

Charles F. Weaver

Charles F. Weaver, 71, of Wayne City, died 1:27 a.m. Sunday, June 18, 2000 at his residence. He was born Aug. 20, 1928.
He was a retired machinist who worked many years at Western Electric in Chicago. He was a Baptist by faith and a veteran of the Korean conflict.
He married the former Christine Lemmons Dec. 23, 1960, in Aurora. She survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Vivian Houk and companion Bill Benefield of Chester, Nancy Weaver of Harrisburg and Janet Chmelik and husband, James Lawrence of Christiansburg, Va.; three sons, Steven Weaver and wife, Lisa of Bolingbrook, Robin Weaver and wife, Carolyn of Wayne City and Keith Weaver and friend, Malinda Caquelin of Wayne City; 22 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Thelma.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Thomason Cemetery under the direction of York Funeral Home of Wayne City with the Rev. Chuck Smith officiating.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today at York Funeral Home in Wayne City.

Gerald W. Minder

Gerald W. Minder, 52, of McLeansboro, died 11:59 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2000 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.
He was born Feb. 11, 1948, in Collinsville to William and Chilish (Wilson) Minder. He was raised by John and Marjorie Wilson.
He married Nancy McDuffy. He later married Virginia Lane Holland on Dec. 16, 1978. She survives.
Mr. Minder worked for Farrar Oil Company as a driller. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the McLeansboro American Legion Post No. 106. He attended Hopewell Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Holland) Minder of McLeansboro; his foster mother, Marjorie Wilson of McLeansboro; his birth mother, Chilish Minder; one son, John W. Minder and wife, Talasha of Pensacola, Fla.; one stepson, Eugene "Jamie" Holland and wife, Chris of McLeansboro; one daughter, Tammy and husband, Greg Provost of Pensacola, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Jacqueline and husband, Scott Johnson of McLeansboro; three brothers, William "Bill" Minder of Granite City, Kenneth Minder of Norris City, John Minder of Enfield; four sisters, Linda Graham of Carmi, Mary Alice Tom of Carmi, Debbie Allen of Enfield, Maggie Harmon of Lexington, Ky.; three foster brothers, Lenny Wilson of McLeansboro, Jimmy Wilson of McLeansboro, Sherman Wilson of Livingston, Texas; one foster sister, Becky Elliston of Olney; and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his birth father, William Minder; his foster father, John Wilson; and one sister.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is in Hickory Hill Cemetery, near Broughton, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post No. 106.

Arnold Blake

Arnold Blake, 87, of 6544 U.S. 45 South, Carrier Mills, died 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg.
He was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Dugger, Ind., to the late Guy and Grace (Gray) Blake.
He married the former Elizabeth Meeks Sept. 30, 1931. She survives.
He retired after 47 years as a prospect driller for Peabody Coal Company.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Delice Felty and husband, Ernest L. of Shawneetown, Arrawhanna Yates and husband, Jeff of O'Fallon and Delola M. Maciel of Redmon, Wash.; a son, Darwin Blake and wife, Ann of Summit; eight grandchildren, Terry B. Felty of Carrier Mills, Tracy L. Felty of Carrier Mills, Sherry Williams of Lockport, Elizabeth A. Yates of O'Fallon, David Maciel and Theresa Conrath, both of Colorado, Danny Maciel of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and Tony Maciel of Redmon, Wash.; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Blake.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills.

Velma (Buechel) Lyon

Velma (Buechel) Lyon, 81, of St. Louis died 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Truman Care Center in St. Louis.
She was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Fair Grove, Mo., to the late Troy and Nora (Bridges) Alexander.
She married Charles J. Buechel, who preceded her in death, then married Chalmer Lyon, who also preceded her in death. She was a retired licensed practical nurse.
She is survived by four sons, Charles "Chuck" Buechel and Frank Buechel, both of Arnold, Mo., William "Bill" Buechel of Troy, Mo., and Patrick Buechel of Manchester, Mo.; a daughter, Dorothy Ainsworth of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a sister, Bethal Steward of Springfield, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers and one sister.
Graveside services will precede burial at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Durham Cemetery near Galatia under the direction of Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Tuesday until the service time at Gholson Funeral Home.

Sylvia E. Tenney

Sylvia E. Tenney, 91, of Wayne City, died 12:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Way-Fair Restorium in Fairfield.
She was born Feb. 12, 1909, in Wayne County to the late Oscar and Emma Bell (Koger) Buchanan.
She married Frank "Toad" Tenney and he preceded her in death in 1984.
She was a housewife, a 50 year member of Wayne City Eastern Star and a member of the First Christian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha Ann Tenney of Wayne City and a sister, Alma Trotter, of Dahlgren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City. The Rev. Chuck Smith will officiate. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.

Kenneth W. Swearingen

Kenneth W. Swearingen, 79, of Washington., died at 9:37 a.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2000, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born July 10, 1921, in Heyworth to Otho and Rachel (Nelson) Swearingen. He married Betty Jane White and she preceded him in death. He later married Kathryn F. Lane on July 29, 1949. She died April 20, 2000, in Peoria.
He was a World War II and Korean Conflict Navy veteran.
Surviving are two sons, Bradley W. Swearingen and wife, Reta, and James E. Swearingen, all of Washington; two daughters, Brenda K. Pruett and husband, Wayne and Janet L. Fruit and husband, Paul of Sandwich; two sisters, Wava Hayes and husband Lloyd and Wanda Weinrich both of Bloomington; one brother, Gerald Swearingen and wife, Shirley of Glenview; several nieces and nephews; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
He worked as a general foreman for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 30 years, retiring in October 1977.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2000, at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. William Rhoades will officiate. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
Memorials may be made to the National World War II Memorial Fund in care of Deiters Funeral Home.

Annadell Cox

Annadell Cox, 85, of Saline Care Center, Harrisburg, formerly of 215 S. McKinley St., Harrisburg, died 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at Saline Care Center.
She was born July 10, 1915, in Saline County to the late Charles and Alta (Vaughn) Reynolds. She married Edward Cox in1937 and he preceded her in death April 15, 1966.
She was a homemaker and a member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Donnie Ray Cox and wife, Cloe of Walterboro, S.C., Glen Cox and wife, Doris of Portage, Ind. and Edward Dale Cox and wife, Judy of Schereville, Ind.; a daughter, Darlene Newberry and husband Hank of Portage, Ind.; two sisters Syble Digman of Evansville, Ind., and Helen E. Hankins of Harrisburg; 16 grandchildren; and11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
The graveside service is 2 p.m. Sunday Oct.1, 2000, at Ledford Cemetery in Harrisburg with the Rev. Ron Reed officiating.
Visitation is noon to 1:45 p.m. Sunday Oct. 1. at Reed Funeral Chapel. Burial is at Ledford Cemetery in Harrisburg.

Mary Sheila (Kennedy) Daniel

Mary Sheila (Kennedy) Daniel, 58, of Rosiclare, died 3:35 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at her residence, after a long illness. She was born June 25, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo. to William Norton and Maude Honore (O'Brien) Kennedy.
Sheila was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rosiclare. She co-owned the NAPA Auto Parts store in Rosiclare with her husband. He greatest joys in life were her family and her faith in God. She attended Mass faithfully, as long as she was able.
She is survived by her husband, Steve C. Daniel of Rosiclare; one daughter, Reima and husband, Heath Robertson of Rosiclare; three grandchildren, Erin Armstrong, Cody Armstrong, Heather Robertson of Rosiclare; two brothers, Paul E. Kennedy of Texas City, Texas and James Brian Kennedy of St. Louis; four nephews, Brian D. Kennedy of Missouri, Mike T. Kennedy of Ohio, Mark T. Kennedy of Texas, and David S. Kennedy of Utah; and one niece, Melissa (Kennedy) Band of Utah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Maude Kennedy; and one brother, William N. Kennedy Jr. of Ogden, Utah.
A prayer service will precede burial 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at the Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare, with the Rev. Joseph Trapp officiating. Graveside services will follow at Mapleview Cemetery in Marion, Ky.
In lieu of flowers, Shiela previously requested that contributions be made to the local chapter of the American Cancer Association.

Linda J. (Brown) Leady

Linda J. (Brown) Leady, 60, of Edwardsville, died 4:02 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 14, 1939, in Eldorado, the daughter of Virginia Choisser Brown, who survives in Edwardsville, and the late Hugh Brown.
Mrs. Leady was employed as a secretary for Edwardsville School District No. 7 for 20 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Edwardsville.
She is survived by two sons, Chris Leady and wife, Amy of Highland, Jon Leady and wife, Tonica of Edwardsville; one daughter, Beth Linder of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, James Brown of Collinsville; and seven grandchildren, Brooke and Julia Linder of Orlando, Fla., Zayna and Tristan Leady of Highland, Samantha, Erica, and Morgan Leady of Edwardsville.
Funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at Pletcher Funeral Home, 627 St. Louis St., Edwardsville, with the Rev. Carlos Bryant, pastor of the Church of Jesus Christ in Edwardsville, officiating. Visitation is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial is 2 p.m. Monday at Wolf Creek Cemetery in Eldorado.
Memorials may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, 4911 Barnes-Jewish Plaza, St. Louis, Mo. 63310.
