Sara McKay King
Born October 6, 1906 - Died December 9, 1996

Sara McKay King, 90, of Kattawa, Kentucky, and formerly of McLeansboro, Illinois, died at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 1996, at Lake Clough Nursing Home in Kattawa, Kentucky.
Mrs. King was born on October 6, 1906, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Thomas and Madesta Ann (Endicott) McKay. Mrs. King owned and operated a dry cleaning establishment for many years.
The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 1996 at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Sefried officiated. Burial was in Rector Cemetery in Broughton.
Mrs. King is survived by one sister, Melvina McKay of Kattawa, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Victor King, three brothers and three sisters.

Margie M. Smith
Born April 30, 1921 - Died December 13, 1996

Margie M. Smith, 75, of Jacksonville, Illinois, and formerly of Dale, Illinois, died at 10:35 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 1996, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, Georgia.
Mrs. Smith was born on April 30, 1921, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Thomas and Mary Edna (Trout) Essary. She was married twice, to Arthur Wells and Robert Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith was a self-employed beauty operator.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 1996, at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Ernie Essary officiated. Burial was in Digby Hill Cemetery in Dale, Illinois.
Mrs. Smith is survived by four sons, Jim Wells and wife Jamie of Indianapolis, Indiana, Sam Wells and wife Kelly of Austin, Texas, Tom Wells of Whitwell, Tennessee, and David Bruce Smith of Jacksonville, Illinois; two daughters, Sandra Lee Claybourn and husband Bob of Cochran, Georgia, and Mrs. Barry Jeffery of Stroud, Oklahoma; two brothers, Ralph Essary of Broughton, Illinois and Harley Essary of Broughton, Illinois; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Harriet Barkley Barnard
Born May 22, 1922 - Died December 19, 1996

Harriett Barkley Barnard, 74, of Wayne City, died at 8:50 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 1996, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Her health had been declining for several years due to liver and heart complications.
Mrs. Barnard was born on May 22, 1922, in Carbondale, a daughter of Harry J. and Gertrude (Brennen) Barkley. She married Art Barnard on October 16, 1949. Mrs. Barnard was a social worker for the Illinois Department of Child Welfare before marriage, then became active in her husband's Livestock Marketing Business in Wayne City. She was a member of the Monday Evening Womans Club, the Illinois Federation of Womans Clubs and the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was also actively involved in organizing support for Wayne City's first kindergarten. She was a member of Wayne City Baptist Church.
The funeral was at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 1996 at Wayne City Baptist Church. Rev. Russ Johnson and Rev. Everett Lemay officiated. Burial was in Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. York Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Barnard is survived by her husband, Art Barndard of Wayne City; two sons; Barkley Barnard and wife Denise of Fairfield and Mark Barnard of Wayne City; three granddaughters; Kassie, Jessica and Marlissa, all of Fairfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother John.
Memorials may be made to the Wayne City Baptist Church and will be accepted at York Funeral Home.

Harrel Russell Eaton
Born January 27, 1913 - Died December 22, 1996

Harrel Russell Eaton, 83, of Dale, died at 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 1996, at his home. He was a farmer and carpenter.
Mr. Eaton was born on January 27, 1913, in Gallatin County, a son of John Earl and Bertha Emaline (Hubbs) Eaton. On April 15, 1937, in Milwaukee, he married Mae Davis Eaton, who preceded him in death. Mr. Eaton attended McLeansboro High School. He was an antique collector and avid fisherman and hunter. He was also president of the Hamilton County Historical Bottle Club, a past member and president of Dale School Board and was the current caretaker of the Old Hickory Hill Cemetery.
The funeral was at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24, 1996 at Harre Funeral Home. Rev. John Gilmore officiated. Burial was in Hickory Hill Cemetery in Walpole.
Mr. Eaton is survived by two daughters, Patricia Cross and husband Roger of McLeansboro, Sharon Lasswell and husband Richard of McLeansboro; four grandchildren, Heidi Hart and husband Jerry of McLeansboro, Heath Lasswell and wife Stephanie of McLeansboro, Whitney Cross of McLeansboro, Kelley Grant and husband Douglas of Huntsville, Alabama; one great-grandchild, Nicholas Lasswell of McLeansboro; three sisters, Velma Phelps of Granite City, Aretta Cant of Zephyr Hill, Florida, Helena Foster and husband Horace of Republic, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers John E. "Pete" Eaton, and Kelbert Eaton, one infant brother and one infant sister.
Memorials may be made at Harre Funeral Home for the Old Hickory Hill Cemetery Fund.

Carl L. Cremeens
Born June 12, 1910 - Died December 23, 1996

Carl L. Cremeens, 86, of Mill Shoals and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 6:45 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 1996, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Cremeens was born on June 12, 1910, in Hamilton County, a son of Cecil and Nannie (French) Cremeens. He was a retired farmer and along with his wife operated Kate's Cafe in McLeansboro for many years.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 1996, at Gholson's Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Abbott officiated. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Mr. Cremeens is survived by one son, Robert Cremeens and wife Lois of Carbondale; three daughters, Dorothy Butler of Wilmington, Illinois, Nellie Breeden of Princeton, Indiana, Stella Isaacs and husband Lowell of Fairfield; one daughter-in-law, Diane Cremeens of San Diego, California; one brother, Obbie Cremeens of Port Byron, Illinois; one sister Dorothy Trout of Moline, Illinois; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathryn "Kate" Abbott, son Carl Eugene, one brother, three sisters and one great-grandchild.

Hal Lemmon
Born December 6, 1914 - Died December 23, 1996

Hal Lemmon, 82, of McLeansboro, died at 7:10 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 1996, in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Mr. Lemmon was born on December 6, 1914, in Tamaroa, a son of John Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Rhine) Lemmon. He was married twice, to Lillie B. (Downen), who preceded him in death in 1971, and to Delsie (Moss) Mayberry, who survives. Mr. Lemmons worked as a machinist for Corn Products Company in Corpus Christie, Texas, until retirement. He was a member of McLeansboro First Baptist Church, where he was also a past trustee and Sunday School teacher.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 1996, at Harre Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Parmley officiated. Burial was in Mueller Hill Cemetery near Pinckneyville.
Mr. Lemmon is survived by his wife of 25 years, Delsie Lemmon of McLeansboro; two sister-in-law, Blanch Lemmon of Tamaroa and Nettie Lemmon of Tamaroa; one granddaughter, Sonja Kim of Michigan; one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and son Kenneth Wayne Lemmon, who died on October 23 and was interred at the same time.
Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home for the charity of the donor's choice.

Blanche Dulany
Born December 23, 1903 - Died December 24, 1996

Blanche Dulany, 93, of Dahlgren, died at 10:12 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24, 1996 at her home.
Mrs. Dulany was born on December 23, 1903, in Dahlgren, a daughter of Olin B. and Clara (Miller) Moore. On January 29, 1931, she married James Albert "Ab" Dulany, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Dulany taught in the Dahlgren school systems from 1923 to 1960 and fully retired in 1973. She was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Dahlgren First Baptist Church.
The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 1996, at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren. Rev. Everett Lemay officiated. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in Dahlgren.
Mrs. Dulany is survived by four nieces, Betty Jo Williams of Evansville, Indiana, Joan Lee of McAllen, Texas, Barbara Gentry of Alton and Beverly Fischer of Alton; three nephews, William George Acks of Decatur, George Dulany of Black Hawks, South Dakota, and James Dulany of Rapid City, South Dakota.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one infant sister.

Madge Thompson
Born February 9, 1914 - Died December 26, 1996

Madge Thompson, 82, of McLeansboro, died at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 26, 1996, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Thompson was born on February 9, 1914, in Hamilton County, a daughter of Hillary Chalon and Nellie Jane (Mitchell) Sandusky. On June 20, 1937, she married Eugene Thompson, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Thompson was a retired school teacher. She taught at the one-room schools in and around Hamilton County and Norris City Grade School for several years. She and her husband operated the Thompson Army Navy Store for many years. She was a former member of the Hamilton County Extension Service Homemakers and a member of Illinois Retired Teachers Association. She attended New Prospect Baptist Church.
The funeral was at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 1996, at Gholson Funeral Home. Rev. Ernie Essary officiated. Entombment was in the family mausoleum at IOOF Cemetery.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by one son, Roger Thompson and wife Glenna of McLeansboro; two daughters, Miryung and Dickerson and husband Brooks of Clayton, North Carolina, Keum O.K. Thompson of Queens, New York; three grandchildren, John Chalon Thompson of McLeansboro, Hillary L. and Tyler A. Dickerson of Clayton, North Carolina.

Lucy Page
Born July 16, 1905 - Died December 26, 1996

Lucy Page, 91, of Belle Rive, died at 11:27 a.m. on Thursday, December 26, 1996, at Nature Trail Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Page was born on July 16, 1905, in Franklin County, a daughter of Johnathan and Alice (Capps) Drew. She married Norval Page, who preceded her in death. She was a housewife. She was a member of Sugar Camp Baptist Church in Belle Rive.
The funeral was at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 1996, at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery near Frisco.
Mrs. Page is survived by one son, A. C. Page and wife Ada of Belle Rive; one daughter, Mary Alice Lankford of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Eliza Hutchcraft of Dahlgren; two grandchildren, Charles Page and wife Linda of Belle Rive, Kathy Norton and husband Bill of Belle Rive; one great-grandchild, Kristy Norton; two step-grandchildren, Tara Whitington and Tawana Smith and husband Robin; and one step-great-great-grandchild, Stepfon Smith.

Frederickia (Freddie) Lou Harre Hartman
Born February 25, 1947 - Died January 12, 1997

Harriett Barkley Barnard, 49, of Mt. Vernon and formerly of McLeansboro, died at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 12, 1997 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Hartman was born on February 25, 1947, a daughter of Charles Eugene and Gladys Maxine (Clark) Harre. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the McLeansboro Township High School Class of 1965 and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
The funeral was at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 1997, at Harre Funeral Home, postponed because of the weather. Rev. Ralph Clark officiated. The body will be cremated as per wishes of the deceased, and her ashes will be buried beside her parents at Digby Hill Cemetery in Dale at a later date.
Mrs. Hartman is survived by one daughter, Leslie Hartman of Mt. Vernon; one son, Jon Ryan Hartman of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Phyllis and Frank Mayberry of Mt. Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Kay McDonald.
