Hale 01/01/97
R. Paul Hale, 83, of Brighton, died Jan. 1, 1998, in Alton Memorial. He married Victoria Radke, who survives. He was a well-known dahlia grower and exhibitor, and won gold medals for many of his flowers. Also surviving are a son, Joe of Marlboro, Ma.; daughters, Joanna Brock of Clarksville, Mo., Jan Risser and Julie Hale, both of Houston, Tx.; and four grandchildren. Services were through Targhetta Funeral Home in Brighton.

Paul Wayne Hale, Sr., 69, of Alton, died June 5, 1998, in Alton Memorial. He married Roberta Edwards, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mary Bagin of St. Peters, Mo.; sons, William of Bethalto, and Paul, Jr., of Doylestown, Pa.; and step-sons, Kelly Campagna of Edwardsville, and Edward Campagna of Alton. Services were through Elias-Smith in Alton. Memorials may be given to Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton.

Russell H. Hale, 96, of Alton, died Aug. 28, 1998, in Northgate Park Nursing Home in Godfrey. He married Pauline Kehr, who preceded him in death. Surviving are daughters, Pauline Hale and Patricia Hastings, both of Florissant, Mo. Services were in Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to Northgate Park.

Louis Richard Hale, Jr., 50, of Alton, died Jan. 27, 2000, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Surviving are his Mother Ruby McGee of Alton; a daughter, April Emmons of Bunker Hill; fiancee, LeeAnn Hyman of Cottage Hills; a step-son, Tony Hyman of Cottage Hills; a step-daughter, Kasey Hyman of Cottage Hills; and step-brothers, Jimmy McGee of Alton, and Ronald McGee of Godfrey. Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to East Alton Assembly of God Church.

Haley 01/18/00
Mary Ellen Haley, 90, of Ocoee, Fl., died Jan. 18, 2000, in a health center there. Her husband, Layman, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, John of Orlando, Fl.; and daughters, Donna Nestler of Ocoee, and Mary Gwaltney of Illinois. Services were through Fine and Quinn Chapel for Funerals in Alton. Memorials may be given to a hospice of choice.

R. Harlan Hall, 85, died May 18, 1997. He married Heberta Virginia Whittleman, who preceded him in death. He retired in 1977 as comptroller of Millers Mutual Insurance Co., where he had worked for 36 years. Surviving are a son, Mark of Alton; a brother, Charles of Silver Spring, Md.; a sister, Marjorie L. Schueler of Dorsey; and two grandchildren. Services were in Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to the Alton Park and Recreation Department and to Pride, Inc.'s memorial tree fund.

Melvin Hall, Jr., 55, of Alton, died Dec. 17, 2000, in Alton Memorial Hospital. He married Trudi Stovall, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Scott of Clarksville, Mo., and Brett of Alton; and a daughter, Lori Hall of Wood River. Services were through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be given to the Alton Area Animal Aid Association.

Dolores E. Hall, 80, died Apr. 30, 2001. Her husband, Arthur, preceded her in death. Surviving are sons, Duane of Hartford, and Lee of South Roxana; a step-son, Arnold of Dow; a daughter, Carolyn Brown of Indians; a step-daughter, Valada Henson of East Alton; and a sister, Ahmed Bransasse of Indiana. Services were in Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Lutherna D. Hall, 78, died May 6, 2001. Her husband, Elton, survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Jody Bender of Aurora, Co. Services were through Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River.

Alphonse C. Hamberg, 74, of Alton, died Sept. 21, 1997, in Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis. He married Alberta Ogden, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Carl of Alton; daughters, Vicki Kuchnicki, Jayne Goskie, and Darla Williams, all of Alton; a brother, John of Alton; sisters, Louise Curvey of Godfrey, Josephine Kamp of Alton, and Elsie Carhart of Medford, Or.; and 16 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services were through Gent. Memorials may be given to St. Francis Adoration Chapel.

William H. Hamby, 70, of Alton, died Feb. 19, 1998, in St. Louis University of Hospital. He married Wilma Shaw, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Larry of California, and David of Mobile, Al.; daughters, Barbara Lahr of Shipman, Cathy Fitzgerald of East Alton, Christine Stahl of Brussels, and Nancy Kivlehen of Florida; a brother, Barney of Alton; sisters, Lucille Fitzgibbons of Roxana, Wilma Foren of South Roxana, and Marie Metz of Missouri; and 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services were in Elias-Smith in Bethalto. Memorials may be given to Liberty Christian Center in Alton.

Louise Hamby, 74, of Bethalto, died May 27, 1998, in Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton. Her husband, Monroe, preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, George of Bethalto; a sister, Zelia Jones of Eaton, Ga.; and a daughter-in-law, Dee Hamby of Bethalto. Services were in Elias-Smith in Bethalto. Memorials may be given to Saint Anthony's intensive care unit.

James Paul Hamby, 51, of Alton, died Apr. 8, 1999, in his home. He married Sandra Vaugh, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Doris; a step-daughter, Dina Flavin of Texas; and a sister, Ruth Holtmann of Bethalto. Services were through Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto. Memorials may be given to Saint Anthony's Hospice and the Fosterburg Volunteer Fire Department.
