Beatrice Gunter "Bea" Hooks, 87, of Dupo died Jan. 17, 2008 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. She was preceded in death by a son, Wendell Barry Hooks; and sisters Georgia Hirsch and Ruth Gunter. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Wendell Hooks; and brother, Earl Gunter. The 1938 graduate of DuQuoin High School was a secretary at First Baptist Church of Dupo where she served as a secretary. She was also a member of the United Transportation Union Women's Auxiliary. A funeral was at First Baptist Church in Dupo with Rev. Gerald Phillips and Rev. Eugene Daily officiating. The arrangements were handled by Dashner - Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo. She was buried at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville. Memorials may be made the Bea Hooks Memorial Fund at Regions Bank in Dupo.

Mariann Tojo, 74, of Columbia, died Jan. 18, 2008 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. She was born March 18, 1933, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Jerome and Leona nee Dumbeck Zittel. She was a retired secretary for Buxton and Skinner Printing Co. Survivors include a son, Tom (Julene) Tojo of Ellisville, Mo., and a daughter, Tina Swain of Columbia; grandchildren Jordan and Jenna Tojo and B.J. Swain of Highland. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral service was held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception School Education Fund.

Luella Aycock nee Wetzler, 79, of Waterloo, died Jan. 19, 2008. She was born Feb. 22, 1928 in Fults, the daughter of the late George and Lena nee Fauss Wetzler. Survivors include son, Michael (Susie) Aycock; grandsons Aaron and Ryan Aycock; sister, Ardell (Leroy) Hartmann; brother, William (Lucille) Wetzler; and sisters-in-law Helen Wetzler and Darlene Wetzler. She was preceded in death by a son, Terrence Aycock; brothers Raymond, Willis, Roland, Robert, Wilbert and Emil Wetzler; sisters-in-law Kath-erine and Elfrieda Wetzler. Visitation was Monday, Jan. 21. A funeral service followed at St. Paul UCC of Waterloo with Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. She was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to the church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Betty Lou Nier nee Riley, 78, of Valmeyer, died Jan. 19, 2008 in Red Bud. She was born Nov. 18, 1929, in Kirkwood, Mo., the daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel (nee Brown) Riley. Survivors include children Sharon (Steve) Newell, Linda Ford, Jerry Alexander, Donna (Jim) Aldridge, Tamara (Dave) Holmes, Keith (Tina) Nier and David Cole; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Clarence Nier; two sisters and two brothers. She was a member of the Valmeyer Senior Citizens and Valmeyer American Legion Auxiliary. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Jones officiating. She was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Olinda Louis Huebner nee Petersen, 84, of Red Bud, died Jan. 19, 2008 in Red Bud. She was born Jan. 24, 1923, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of the late Henry and Louise nee Bangert Petersen. Survivors include daughter, Karen (Kenneth) Schau of New Athens; and sister-in-law Dorothy Petersen of St. Louis, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Huebner; and brother, Henry Petersen. She was a member of the St. Peter UCC of Red Bud Women's Fellowship and a past member of GRG at Immanuel UCC of Ferguson, Mo. A visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. Peter UCC of Red Bud, with Pastor Kenneth Knobloch officiating. She was buried at the church's cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.

Arlene "Eileen" Edwards nee Pencak, 68, of Waterloo, died Jan. 19, 2008, in Waterloo. She was born Dec. 21, 1939, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary nee Ziemba Pencak. Survivors include husband, Raymond Edwards; children David "Fritz" (Kathy Engel) Edwards and Diane (Daniel) Amann; grandchildren Sheila Amann, Stephanie Amann and Daniel Amann; devoted dog Punky; sister, Rosemarie (Edward) Zakszewski; and half-sister, Loretta Buettner. A funeral was at Quernheim Funeral Home. with Father Robert Gore officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Mary Icle Woodcock nee McDannald, 87, of Columbia, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at Columbia Convalescent Center. She was born October 21, 1920 in Pollock, Mo., the daughter of the late William and Lydia A. (nee Pearson) McDannald. She married Raymond Woodcock in 1946, who survives her. Other survivors include her daughter, Wilma Ann (Gene) Zarybnicky of Blue Springs, NE; grandson, Michael Matthew (Kris) Zarybnicky of Beatrice, NE; great-grandchildren Michaela S. Zarybnicky, and Ashlynn Marye Zarybnicky; a brother, Charles Otis McDannald of Ellsinore, Mo.; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine McDannald; and brothers J. Henry McDannald and William LeeOral McDannald. Visitation is Saturday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m. to noon at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral will follow at Lawlors at 12 noon, Pastor Dan Batchelor officiating. She will be buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to the Apostolic Worship Center in Dupo.

Ermin J. Vogt, 89, of Waterloo died Jan. 21, 2008, in St. Louis. He was born Jan. 14, 1919 in Waterloo, the son of the late Louis B. and Anna M. (nee Zeis) Vogt. Survivors include sister Margaret Mary Brinkmann; nieces and nephews Janice (Dave) Holdener, Kathy (Darrell) Hitzemann, Dorothy (Paul) Mollet, Joseph (Liz) Brinkmann, John Brinkmann, Chester (JoAnn) Vogt, JoAnn Daniels, Mary (Michael) Harrod, Tom (Bobbie) Vogt and Anne (Steve) Candler. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor Vogt nee May; and brothers Raymond L., Alphonse and Anthony Vogt; and sister Hildegarde Einwich. He was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Holy Name Society, Waterloo Knights of Columbus Council # 1334 and the Monroe County Farm Bureau. Memorials may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Grade School. Visitation is Friday, Jan. 25, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Saturday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m., at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Jose Jacob officiating. He will be buried at the church's cemetery.

Katherine Grob, 92, of Columbia, died Jan. 22, 2008, at Columbia Convalescent Center. She was born October 4, 1915 in New Underwood, SD, the daughter of the late George and Catherina (nee Baurele) Schuler. She was married to the late Wilbert A. Grob. He died in 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Diana (David) Monroe of Jacksonville; son-in-law, Robert Thoma of Columbia; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Thoma; 5 brothers; and 4 sisters. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Columbia. Visitation is Sunday, Jan. 27, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral is Monday, Jan. 28, 11 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbia, Pastor Steven Theiss officiating. She will be buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Memorials may be made to the church.

James D Houseknecht, 72, of Maryville, died Jan. 23, 2008, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital North in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Jan. 6, 1936 in Detroit, Mich, the son of late Theodore and Donna nee Bumpus Houseknecht. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Houseknecht nee Spelver; children Linda Houseknecht of St. Charles, Mo., Ellen (Jeffrey) Grueninger of Columbia and James Houseknecht of Columbia; sister Patricia Nevels of Columbia, Mo.; and grandchildren Connor Doherty of St. Charles, Mo., Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Bentrup of Ballwin, Mo. and Andrew Phillip Grueninger of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a son, Lou Phillip Houseknecht. Mr. Houseknecht was an electronic technician at C.C. Bell Electronic in Collinsville and St. Louis, Mo. He was a member of St. John Evangelical UCC in Collinsville and a past Mason of Lodge 712. Visitation is Sunday, Jan. 27, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Herbert A Kassly Funeral Home in Collinsville. Funeral is Monday, Jan. 28, 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home, with Rev. David Stabenfeldt officiating. Burial will be at St. John UCC cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
