Barbara Nell Davis, nee Cotton ,70, of Millstadt, died Dec. 22, 2010. She was born Aug. 4, 1940 in Hanson, Ky., the daughter of the late Ivan and Beatrice (Nance) Cotton. Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, Billie D. Davis; brothers Earl (Dorothy) Cotton and Harold (Mary Ann) Starr; half-sister, Virginia Landrum; nieces and nephews Earline, Sharon, Ivan, Debrah, Sharon, Frank, Joy, Dana, Eddie and Gina; and sister-in-law, Ethel Davis. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ivan Eugene Cotton; and half-sister, Sherrie Lynn Panel. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker. Visitation is Monday, Dec. 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt. Funeral is Tuesday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David Krueger officiating. Mrs. Davis will be buried at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights.

Robert F. Kunkel, 89, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died Dec. 26, 2010. He was born May 23, 1921 in Burksville, the son of the late Joseph and Rose (nee Kelley) Kunkel. Mr. Kunkel is survived by his wife, Alberta (Lang) Kunkel; children Daniel J. (Patricia) Kunkel, Gerald R. Kunkel and Jane Frances Kraus’ grandchildren Amy and Curtis Kraus; and sisters Miriam Jung, Madonna Degener and Adele (Syl) Goessling. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Kunkel; and sisters Bernadette Kunkel and Mary Siegfried. Mr. Kunkel was a member of the New Athens Knights of Columbus 3789 and the Cape Girardeau, Mo. VFW Post 3838. Visitation is Wednesday, Dec. 29, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Thursday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Dale Maxfield officiating. Mr. Kunkel will be buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Memorials may be made to masses at his church.

Melvin E. Sensel, 91, of Waterloo, died Dec. 26, 2010 in Waterloo. He was born Sept. 17, 1919 in Harrisonville, the son of the late Monroe and Mathilda (nee Bange) Sensel. Mr. Sensel is survived by cousins and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, Elwood Brauch. Visitation is Friday, Dec. 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral will immediately follow Pastor Matt Friz officiating. Mr. Sensel will be buried at the Waterloo City Cemetery.

Curt Louis Kopp, 74, of Columbia, died Dec. 26, 2010 at his residence. He was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Belleville, the son of the late Arthur Kopp and Elsie (nee Koch) Eckert. Mr. Kopp is survived by his children, Mark Kopp of Manchester, Moo., Donna (Stephen) Bequette of Columbia, Edward Kopp of Columbia, Daniel Kopp of St. Louis, Mo., Matthew Kopp of Chicago, David Kopp of Columbia, Ernie Kopp of Columbia and Diann (Jon) Kunze of Thomson, Ga.; grandchildren Ryan, Tyler and Michael Bequette; a sister, Edith (John) Reynolds of Columbia, SC.; and former wife, Mary Ann Schiemer. Mr. Kopp served in the United States Army. He was a member of the International Typographical Union and retired as a job foreman from the St. Louis Post Dispatch. He was also a member of the Columbia Gymnastic Association (Turners), St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia and the Millstadt Sportsman Club. Visitation is Wednesday, Dec.29, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral is Thursday, Dec. 30 at the funeral home with Rev. Matthew Friz officiating. Mr. Kopp will be buried at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt. Memorials may be made to Human Support Services of Waterloo or the Floraville United Church of Christ.

Ernst William Huch 97 of Columbia, died Dec. 27, 2010 at the Columbia Convalescent Center in Columbia. He was born April 1, 1913 in New Hanover, the son Jacob and Minnie (nee Stumpf) Huch. Mr. Huch is survived by his sons, Ronald (June) Huch of Columbia and Larry (Rita) Huch of Columbia; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Huch, James Huch and Lori Huch, all of Columbia; his great-grandchildren Alyssa and Ryan (Sophia) Huch; and his brother, Carl Huch. He was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla (nee Brandt) Huch; and his sister, Elberta Korves. Ernst retired after 38 years as a mechanic for Monroe Grain Supply in Columbia. He attended St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia. Visitation is Thursday, Dec. 30, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt. Funeral is Friday, Dec. 31, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Kristopher Avis-Rouse officiating. Mr. Huch will be buried at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to St. Paul UCC Gateway Fund.

JoAnn Myrick, 81, of Columbia, died Nov. 4, 2010 at Columbia Convalescent Center. She was born March 23, 1929, in Belle, Mo., the daughter of the late Clarence and Lydia (nee Czeschin) Tackett. She married Robert C. Myrick in 1949 in St. Louis, Mo. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Myrick is survived by her children, Robert (Nancy) Myrick of Waterloo, Patricia (Dale) Shore of Waterloo and Keith (Cindy) Myrick of Waterloo; grandchildren Megan (Dan) Menke and Monica, Ivy and Cade Myrick; and a sister, Evelyn Shipley of Afton, Mo. She was preceded in death by her brothers Clarence and William Tackett. JoAnn attended St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia, where she was active with the Lay Life and Work Committee. She was also a lifelong supporter of diabetes awareness. JoAnn and her husband had owned Myrick Feed in Valmeyer and Waterloo. Visitation is Monday, Nov. 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral is Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul UCC in Columbia with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Mrs. Myrick will be buried at the Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Shriners Hospital For Children.

Twyla Luhr, nee Miller, 88, of Waterloo, died Nov. 5, 2010 at Belleville Memorial Hospital. She was born April 25, 1922 in Valmeyer, the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Louise (nee Roth) Miller. Mrs. Luhr is survived by her children; Sheryl (Bob) Metzger, Vickie (Bill) Gardner, Michael (Michelle) Luhr, Jay (Betty) Luhr and Bethany (Mark) Miller; grandchildren Clay (Debbie) Metzger, Aaron (Karla) Metzger, Collin (Kathy) Metzger, Matthew (Stephanie) Gardner, Steven (Candace) Gardner, Nicole (Hank) Harrison, Tara (Scottie Bryant) Luhr, Kacie (Eric) Sutton, Jason, Carson and Wyatt Luhr and Kelly and Megan Miller; great-grandchildren Sidney, Sam and Jack Metzger, Josie and Callie Metzger, Luke and Jackie Hayes, Natalie and Blaine Metzger, Eli and Ethan Gardner, Austin Clark, Olivia Gardner, Luke, Noah and Jacob Hays, Charley Harrison, Zoe, Hudson, Crawford Bryant and Mason and Rouxlin Sutton; sister-in-law, Wilma (Eugene) Linker; and an aunt, Viola DuFrenne; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and many loyal employees. She was preceded in death by her husband Alois Luhr (who died in 2005); and a brother, Guy Miller. Mrs. Luhr was a co-owner of Luhr Bros. Inc., and was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo, where she was a charter member of the bell choir. She was a 60-year member of the Valmeyer Legion Auxiliary, the American Cancer Society, the Chamber of Commerce Women of the Year and an inductee of the Mon-Clair Baseball League Hall of Fame. Twyla was an active supporter of many local community organizations, an avid golfer and card player. She also enjoyed playing various games and spending time with her family. Visitation is Sunday, Nov. 7, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Monday, Nov. 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m., at St. Paul UCC f Waterloo with Pastor Fred Wehrenberg, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein and Pastor Dick Sparrow officiating. Mrs. Luhr will be buried at St. John UCC Cemetery in old town Valmeyer. Memorials may be made to the Alois and Twyla Luhr Foundation.

Levert Alvin Skirvin Jr., 86, of Millstadt, died Nov. 10, 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. He was born Feb. 13, 1924 in Elsberry, Mo., the son of the late Levert Alvin and Sarah Ellen (nee Brant) Skirvin Sr. Mr. Skirvin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alberta (nee Emery) Skirvin; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Skirvin served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had retired from Brod-Dugan Paint Co. Funeral Services will be private. Arrangements were handled by Strauss Funeral Home in Millstadt. Mr. Skirvin will be buried at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt. Memorials may be made to the Millstadt Senior Center.

Kenneth Stumpf, 74, of Columbia, died Nov. 11, 2010 at St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. He was born March 16, 1936, in Belleville, the son of the late Roy and Florence (Mueller) Stumpf. He married Evelyn (Gummersheimer) Stumpf in 1954 in Columbia. In addition to his wife, Mr. Stumpf is survived by his children, Gary (Leona) Stumpf, Cheri (Butch) Riebeling, Jay (Kim A.) Stumpf, Jane (Joe) Menner of Columbia and Kurt (Kim D.) Stumpf, all of Columbia; grandchildren, Michelle (Dan) Menner, Jason (Meghan) Stumpf, Nicole (Brad) Thompson, Bryan (Jennifer) Riebeling, Megan (Jeremy) Batson, Kendra and Kelly Stumpf, Dustin and Ryan Menner and Kyle and Cassie Stumpf; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Sydney, Brayden, Gage, Jersie and Addisen; a sister, Erlene Bretzlaff of Columbia; sisters-in-law Jean (Marc) Eckert of Columbia and Iona Juengling of Columbia; and a brother-in-law, Harvey Ries of rural Columbia. He was preceded in death by great-grandsons Evan Riebeling and Zander Batson; a sister, Ellen Stumpf; mother-in-law, Alfrieda (Weltig) Joseph; sister-in-law, Marion Ries; and brother-in-law, James Juengling. Mr. Stumpf was a lifelong farmer in rural Columbia who attended St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia. He was one of the founders of Columbia National Bank and was a current member of the board of directors. He is a former board member with the Monroe County Electric Co-Op, the Mon-Clair Grain board, a past-director of the Monroe County Farm Bureau, a founder of C & W Co-Op, the Illinois Corn Growers board, the Illinois Soy Bean Association, a former Road District 5 commissioner and 4-H leader. Visitation is Friday, Nov. 12, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lawlor Funeral Home and Saturday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Paul UCC of Columbia. A service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Mr. Stumpf will be buried at the Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to his church’s elevator fund.

Jerod W. Staub, 22, of Waterloo, died Nov. 16, 2010 in an automobile accident. He was born July 24, 1988 in Red Bud, the son of Charles “Bill” and Sandra (nee Bochantin) Staub of rural Waterloo. In addition to his parents, Mr. Staub is survived by his brothers, Beau (Angie) Staub, Joshua (Jackie) Staub and Daniel Staub; nieces and nephews, Codi, Zoe, Autumn and Amelia; and maternal grandmother, Georgian Bochantin; along with aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Kenneth Bochantin; and paternal grandparents Lindy and Wonda Campbell. Mr. Staub was employed by Charter Communications. Visitation is Sunday, Nov. 21, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Monday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Osang Idagbo officiating. Mr. Staub will be buried at the church’s cemetery.
