Thomas C. Doyle
Thomas C. Doyle, 28, of Jacksonville died Tuesday evening, April 8, 2003 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born February 14, 1975 in Jacksonville the son of Cynthia Doyle. He married Laci Campbell on May 30, 2001 in Jacksonville and she survives. He is also survived by one son, Daniel Jonathon Doyle at home; two brothers, Richard Anthony Doyle of Ft. Knox, Kentucky and Robert John Doyle of Jacksonville; one sister, Cathy Jo (husband, Jeff) Piercy of Ft. Knox, Kentucky and maternal grandparents, John and Catherine Klinkerman of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Doyle. Mr. Doyle worked for Deeder Construction and also at Kentucky Fried Chicken. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and enjoyed collecting swords and fencing. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2003 at Diamond Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Daniel Jonathon Doyle Fund. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Nettie E. Doyle
Nettie E. Doyle, 93, of Glasgow passed away Wednesday morning (February 19, 2003) at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born August 16, 1909 in Green e County the daughter of the late Norman Lee and Tunnie Smith Wells. She married Walter David “Jim” Bartlett, he preceded her in death August 11, 1951. She married Cecil Doyle in 1959 and he preceded her in death January 19, 1969. Also preceding her in death were 4 sisters, a brother and her son in law Leland Gourley. Mrs. Doyle attended Alsey High School and graduated from Winchester High School in 1927. She was a homemaker and a member of Royal Neighbors and Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Jacksonville. Survivors include 2 sons Richard Keith (wife Virginia) Bartlett of Bullhead City, Arizona, Donald Dean (wife Ruth) Bartlett of Prophetstown, IL, 2 daughters Mrs. Jean Gourley of Glasgow and Mrs. Donald J. (Barbara Ruth) Moore of Winchester, a brother Lee Wells of Alsey, 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchilden, also a special niece Virginia Wells of White Hall who was raised in the home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday (February 22, 2003) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in the White Hall Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 PM Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Winchester EMS or to the donors choice.

Mrs. Effie L. Doyle (Manker)
Effie L Doyle, age 91, of the Pittsfield HealthCare Center in Pittsfield, Ill. died 1:40 a.m. Friday at the HealthCare Center. She was born on August 20, 1911 in Pike County, Il, daughter of William C. and Margaret Henderson Manker. She was raised by her Uncle John and Aunt Lena (who she called Mom) Henderson. She married Arthur Doyle on October 4, 1931 in Griggsville, IL and he preceded her in death on May 8, 1990. Surviving is one son, Donald W. Doyle and wife Mary Ellen of Metamora, Il; seven grandchildren, Cathy McDaniel and husband John of Griggsville, Ill, Sherry Stoneking and husband Robert of Quincy, Il, Kurt McClain and wife Brenda of Littleton, Colorado, Todd Doyle and wife Amy of Gurnee, IL, Joelle Alexander and husband Christopher of Peoria, IL, Jocelyn Doyle of Peoria,IL, and Roger Doyle of Louisiana, Mo; eight great grandchildren, two great- great -grandchildren; a son in law Albert McClain of Quincy, IL, a daughter in law Ada Hanback and husband Don of Pittsfield, IL; a brother-in-law Ivy Doyle and wife Bernice of Barry, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Billy Lee Doyle, a daughter Lois Glen McClain, a granddaughter Noelle Doyle, a great grandson Ryan McClain, two sisters her twin Eva M. Barber and Beulah Doyle, and two brothers Ivy Manker and Lynn Manker. Mrs. Doyle was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield and was a devout Christian. She graduated High School in Pittsfield, Ill. and was a former employee of the old Brown Shoe Factory and was employed as a cook at the Lincoln Inn, Hilltop Cafe and the Cardinal Inn restaurant until she retired in 1974. She enjoyed her family, reading, sewing, her flowers, gardening, talking on the phone with her friends everyday, and playing dominos. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday (May 27, 2003) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice of Pike County or Pittsfield First Baptist Church or Illini Commuinty Hospital.

Mrs Florence Edith Duewer (Maginn)
Florence Edith Maginn Duewer, 99, of Waverly, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 in Sunrise Manor in Virden, Illinois. She was born October 7, 1903 in rural Waverly, Morgan County, Illinois, the daughter of Charles C. and Clara Brown Maginn. She married Carl William Duewer on October 7, 1925 at her parents home in rural Waverly, and he preceded her in death on April 20, 1990. Surviving are one son Donald (wife Bert) Duewer of Waverly, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters: Esther Gunn on May 5, 2000 and Alice Louise in infancy; on August 20, 1926, and three brothers: Raymond; Harold; and Lester Maginn. She was a homemaker and an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Waverly. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 5, 2003 in Christ Lutheran Church in Waverly. Visitation will be on Friday, April 4, 2003, from 4 pm until 7 pm at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church, Waverly Rescue Squad, or Waverly East Cemetery.

Mr. William Maurice Durham
William Maurice Durham, 78, of San Diego, California, and formerly of Jacksonville and Springfield, died Sunday, February 23, 2003, in San Diego. He was born April 24, 1924, in Roodhouse, the son of James Cloyd and Florence Catherine Love Durham. He married Mary Susan Thompson on August 12, 1944 in Green ville, Mississippi, and she survives. He is also survived by one daughter, Karolyn (husband, Les) Zoltan of La Mesa, California; one granddaughter, Kira (husband, Anthony) Jacobson and great-grandson, Jude William Jacobson, all of Pembroke Pines, Florida; one brother, J.E. Durham of Jerseyville; two brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, including June Thompson and Wanda Thompson, both of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Durham was a chiropractor and entrepreneur. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of Jacksonville Lodge #570, A.F. & A. M. Funeral services will be announced at a later date. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dorothy Tranbarger Dyer (Orris)
Dorothy E. Orris Tranbarger Dyer, 86, of Woodson, died Friday morning, January 17, 2002, at her residence. She was born on October 25, 1916, near Woodson, the daughter of Elmer and Edith Mansfield Orris. She was married to Andrew Tranbarger and later Dolph D. Dyer, and they both preceded her in death. She is survived by one son, Russell E. “Gene” (wife, Theresa) Tranbarger of Robersonville, North Carolina; one brother, Bill (wife, Bonnie) Orris of Nortonville; and two sisters, Louise Eppinger of Woodson and Olive Koehler of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, James (surviving wife, Nancy of Woodson), and Russell (surviving wife Betty Wilbur of Jacksonville;) and one sister, Helen Nunes. Mrs. Dyer was a graduate of Woodson Grade School and Woodson High School. As a young lady she operated the switchboard in Woodson and later worked at Schlitz Hardware on the square in Jacksonville. She also worked at Federated Funeral Directors in Springfield and retired from the State of Illinois, Department of Commerce and Community Affairs in 1986. She especially enjoyed cats. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2003, at the Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society or the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Della Leona Ellis (Sarver)
Della Leona Ellis, age 82, of the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling, Ill. and formerly of Griggsville, Ill. died Monday morning (March 24, 2003) at the nursing home. She was born December 2, 1920 in Beardstown, Ill. daughter of the late Eddie and Della Kelly Sarver. She married Carl Edward Ellis on January 2, 1943 in Bowling Green , Mo. and he preceded her in death August 2, 1982. Surviving is one son, Lyndle Ellis and wife Kim of Griggsville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Kristin Danielle Kemper and Lynley Nicole Ellis both of Griggsville, Ill.; one sister, Lola Danner of Pittsfield, Ill.; special friends, Jan and Ed Glossop of Ashland, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Henrietta “Ted” Roberts, Ina Lemmons, Vivian Brooks; and three brothers, George Sarver, Art Sarver, Ed Sarver. Mrs. Ellis was owner/operator of Ellis Grocery Store in Valley City, Ill. and later Ellis SuperBuy in Griggsville, Ill., which she ran with her family for over 35 years. Leona loved to quilt and sew, watching birds, and cooking. She also loved to write and always kept a diary. But her greatest love was her family, which will miss her dearly. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday (March 27, 2003) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be made to Cass/Schyler Hospice.

Mrs. Edna Louisiana Emery (Stratton)
Edna Louisiana Emery, 97 of Girard, Illinois, formerly Modesto, IL. died Thursday, May 15, 2003 in her home in Girard. She was born November 19, 1905 in Elsinore, Missouri, a daughter of George Washington and Clementine Norman Stratton. She married Virgil Squire Emery on November 2, 1921 in Elsinore, Mo, and he preceded her in death on March 28, 1984. Surviving are three sons: Bobby Emery of Girard, IL; Billy (wife Betty) Emery of Ava, Mo, and Jerry Emery of Modesto; three daughters: Helen Lucille Poore, of Caseyville, IL; Eolia (husband Walter) James of Swansea, IL; Irene Murphy of Modesto, IL, thirty eight grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son Edmond (surviving wife Juanita), one great granddaughter, Julia Murphy, who died April 25, of this year; five brothers : Newt, Chris, James, and Leonard Stratton; and three sisters Grace, Clara, and Eleanor.Stratton. She was a homemaker and in the early years of her marriage she worked in the cotton fields of southern Missouri. She loved to play cards with her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Sunday, May 18, 2003 in Stults-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra, IL., with cremation to follow. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm Saturday, May 17, 2003 at the funeral home.

Margery J. Evans (Mulquin)
Margery J. Evans, 81, of South Jacksonville died Sunday evening, January 12, 2003 at her residence. She was born June 26, 1921 in Lead, South Dakota the daughter of Thomas and Charlotte Gageby Mulquin. She married Merl H. Evans on January 1, 1938 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota and he preceded her in death on July 16, 1974. She is survived by 7 sons, Merle R. (wife, Sandy) Evans of Arenzville, Patrick (wife, Susie) Evans of Murrayville, Dennis (wife, Diana) Evans of Alexander, David (wife, Jilda) Evans of Murrayville, Donald (wife, Rhonda) Evans of Columbia, Missouri, Albert Evans of Woodson and Timothy (wife, Sharon) Evans of Winchester; two daughters, Teresa (husband, Stephen) Murdock of Drake, Colorado and Cathy (husband, Donnie) Cole of Murrayville; 28 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one brother, Jerry (wife, Peggy) Mulquin of Springfield. She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Evans; one daughter, Margery Ruth Evans and two brothers, Thomas Mulquin and Jack Mulquin. Mrs. Evans had worked as a dietician at the Jacksonville Developmental Center prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Catholic faith. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at St. Bartholomew Cemetery near Murrayville. Friends may call after 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with the family to meet friends from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Visiting Nurses of Central Illinois, Hospice Care Program.

Jordan Lee Evans
Jordan Lee Evans infant child of Chip Lee and Karla Jean Nelson Evans, of Chapin, IL. was stillborn Thursday, September 11, 2003 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. Surviving maternal grandparents are: Avalee McGee of Waverly and Robert D. Nelson of Jacksonville. Paternal grandparents are Shirley and Charles Heintz of Buffalo, IL and Robert and Glenda Evans of Jacksonville, IL. Maternal great grandparents are: Kenneth and Idella Bettis of Waverly and Lea Nelson of Jacksonville. Paternal great grandmothers are Margaret Peavy of Lincoln and Virginia Peters of Jacksonville. Jordan was preceded in death by maternal great grandfather Owen Nelson and paternal great grandfathers Albert Peavy and Pete Peters. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, September 15, 2003 in Waverly East Cemetery, with Rev. John Burmell officiating.. Neece Funeral Home in Waverly in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Robert Carroll Everett
Robert Carroll Everett, 69, of Golden Eagle, and formerly of Jacksonville, died Thursday morning, April 3, 2003, in St. Charles, Missouri. He was born May 19th, 1933, in White Hall, the son of John Anderson and Helen Elizabeth McConathy Everett. He married Jo Ann Mosley on January 23, 1959 in Jacksonville and she survives. He is also survived by two sons, Scott Keith Everett of Golden Eagle and Andrew (wife, Kimberly) Everett of Lake Zurich; one grandson, Zachary Everett; one brother, James Ross (wife, Shirley) Everett of Carrollton, Texas; three nieces, Patricia Ann (husband, Jim) Klimek, Evelyn (husband, Mike) Langley, and Marcia Jean (husband, John) Farrell; his mother-in-law, Martha Mosley of Golden Eagle; one aunt, Dorothy Redman; and cousins, Ron McConathy, Roger McConathy, Peggy McConathy Ellis, and Bill Battershell. He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Everett, his mother, Helen Everett, one brother, John Howard Everett (surviving wife Arleen of Champaign,) and one niece, Janice Everett. Robert was a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955 and his Master of Arts degree in 1963. He received his E.E.D. in 1967 from the University of Alabama. He served in the United States Navy after graduating in 1955 until 1957, as a postal clerk on an oil tanker. After his discharge from the Navy, he was assistant manager for the J.C. Penney store in downtown Jacksonville. He then went into teaching and became a school psychologist in Illinois, before retiring in 1989. He moved to Indiana where he was a psychologist for West Lake Schools until retiring in 1999. At present he was a psychologist for the St. Louis Public Schools in the Gifted Program. Robert loved to be with his sons and working in the garden and yard. He enjoyed visiting Bishop Auckland, England, where his family was from. His family was a member of the Church of England at St. Andrew. He loved his home in Calhoun County. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Jones Cemetery near Roodhouse. The family will meet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Mrs. Hester Farmer (Long)
Hester Farmer, 83, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away Monday, March 10, 2003, at Lipe’s Private Care in Springfield, Illinois. She was born January 23, 1920 in Ashland, Illinois, the daughter of Newton and Susie Long. She married James K. Eilars in 1941, he preceded her in death in 1957. She married Carl Farmer in 1970, he preceded her in death in 2000. Through out her life she was employed as a secretary for the State of Illinois and an employ at HissanHome in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Women’s Guild of Cosmetology in Springfield. She was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church and an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Household Science Club in Modesto. She is survived by 1 son; James (Jalia) Eilers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 2 daughters, Judy (Stuart) Fliege of Springfield, Illinois; Mary Jean Coleman of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; 2 step sons; Gary L. (Donna) Farmer of Tracy, California, K. Kent Farmer of Modest, Illinois; 6 grandchildren, Pamela Lazar, Jim Eilers, Roger Fliege, Stacey Eilers, Juna Lynn Eilers, Manny Brown, and Alicia Magna; and 4 great grandchildren. Her parents, and 2 husbands preceded her in death. Funeral services will be at 10:30am, Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Christ Lutheran Church in Waverly, Illinois. Family will meet friends from 4pm to 7pm, Friday, March 14, 2002 at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, Illinois. Burial will be Waverly East Cemetery in Waverly. Memorials are suggested to the Ladies Guild of Christ Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran Church.

Royce Featherstone Jr.
Royce Featherstone, Jr., 60, of Jacksonville died Thursday, February 13, 2003 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born August 14, 1942 in Houston, Texas the son of Royce and Willie Annie Altman Featherstone. Mr. Featherstone is survived by one son, Royce Featherstone; one daughter, Shannon Featherstone and one sister, Alice Monroe of College Station, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at Diamond Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation, Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. William K. Ferry
William “Bill” K. Ferry, 64, of Jacksonville, died Sunday afternoon, January 26, 2003, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born on May 29, 1938, in Jacksonville, the son of Francis J. and Margaret Davison Ferry. He married Anna Marie Gray on November 26, 1975, in Jacksonville, and she preceded him in death on January 26, 2000. He is survived by one step-daughter, Joyce Bock of Jacksonville; one step-son, Emil Wayne Bock of Shawnee, Oklahoma; one step-granddaughter, Mendy Bailey; one step-great-grandson; one sister, Mary Eileen Ferry, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Kathleen Anne Scott (surviving husband Richard D. Scott of Thurmont, Maryland); and three brothers, James F. Ferry, Edmond J. Ferry, and John D. Ferry. Mr. Ferry was retired from Mobil Chemical, where he had been a section leader. He served in the United States Army, as a demolition specialist, stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Church of Our Saviour and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading and collecting military memorabilia. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2003, at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Jacksonville East Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Mr. David John Fischer
David John Fischer, age 64, of White Hall, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 19, 2003 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis, after heart surgery, surrounded by the people who loved him. As the farmers were cutting the winter wheat, he was born June 26, 1938 in Granite City, the son of Erwin and Mary Fiala Fischer. He married Claudia Blackketter DeShasier on April 9, 1993 in White Hall and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, Erwin Fischer of Jacksonville; his three daughters and their families, Susan and Mark Twichell of Alton; Michele and Randy Stark of Worden and Amy McDonough of Wood River; his five grandchildren, Jennifer Wood, Brandon Twichell, Brittany McDonough, and Rachel and Randy Stark. He is also survived by three stepsons, Danny II, Brandan and Wesley DeShasier and their families; eight stepgrandchildren, Morgan, Elizabeth, Danny III, Zachary, Kenyon, Kate, Garrett and Ashley; and two sisters, Nancy Hess of Edwardsville and Jeanne Ellis of Lecento, Florida, and by his Aunt Agnes Halbe of Edwardsville. He was raised in Jacksonville and graduated from Mac Murray College in Jacksonville in 1960 with a degree in music education. He was among the first class there to accept male students at a formerly all-women’s college. He was music director at Southwestern School District for 28 years until his retirement at age 55. He also directed the Alton Muny Band. He worked many summers for the Kroger Company, both in his father’s Jacksonville store as well as at stores in Godfrey, Alton, East Alton and Carbondale. He had a special love for the Rocky Mountains, photography, his animals, his family and his music. He spent the weekends of his youth playing his saxophone in a dance band with Boots Brennan. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, talented musician and friend to all he met. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at the White Hall Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the March of Dimes.

Ms. Grace Fitch (Braham)
Grace Fitch, 94, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday evening, January 29, 2003, at her residence. She was born on March 28, 1908, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Charles and Abigail Braham Fitch. She is survived by a nephew, Harry (wife, Marilyn) Fitch, Jr. of Nevada; two nieces, Joyce Fitch Cummings of Kirkland, Washington, and Bonnie Scudder of Peoria; a sister-in-law, Doris Fitch of Jacksonville, several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; and her special friends Joyce Hembrough-Webb and Rob Roy Hembrough, both of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Harry, Sr., and Clyde; and two sisters, Ruth Christian and Frances, who died as a child. Ms. Fitch graduated from Jacksonville High School and from MacMurray College in 1931 with an A.B. degree. In 1985 she received a Doctor of Humanities Honorary Degree from MacMurray College. Ms. Fitch served 48 ½ years as a teacher in this area. She was employed in the elementary and junior high (David Prince) school and served 30 years as principal of Franklin Elementary School. She then became Director of Elementary Education at MacMurray College where she was an associate professor, retiring in 1976. Ms. Fitch was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she had served as Deacon, Trustee, and Elder. She was a lifetime member of the Board of Trustees at MacMurray College, was an Alumni Trustee and past-president of the Alumni Association, and was voted Alumna of the Year in 1964. She was selected to become a member of the Jacksonville Hall of Fame and was a charter member of Chapter EI, P.E.O. Ms. Fitch was also on the Lake Reclamation Committee and was presented the Community Builders Award in 1990 by Harmony Lodge #3, A.F. & A.M. Through the years she had served as a trustee of Passavant Hospital, member of the commission to bring water from the Illinois River, a member of the Woodhaven Hospice Board, the YMCA Board, the United Fund Board, the Girl Scout Board, and served as President of the Illinois Elementary Principals Association. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. Family will meet friends following the service at the church. Private committal services will be at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to MacMurray College or First Presbyterian Church. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mildred Annette Fleury (Christison)
Mildred Annette Fleury, age 73, of White Hall, died Friday morning, Feb. 28, 2003 at the White Hall Multicare Center. She was born Aug. 30, 1929 in Winchester, the daughter of Homer and Mildred Cummings Christison. She married Lewis Fleury on April 8, 1984 at Jerseyville and he survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Gail Stice of White Hall and Brenda Ward of Loveland, Colorado; one son, Russell Stice of Effingham; seventeen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Miller of Jacksonville and one brother, Claude Christison of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Christison and one sister, Judy Rueter. Mrs. Fleury worked as a nurse’s aid at Passavant Hospital, Norris Hospital and the Jacksonville Development Center for a number of years. She enjoyed fishing and crocheting and collecting angels. She was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2003 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with burial at Bloomfield Cemetery in Scott County. The family will meet friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mr. Jesse Lee Floyd
Jesse Lee Floyd, 77, of Jacksonville, died Monday evening, March 10, 2003, at his residence. He was born September 18, 1925 in Meredosia, the son of William R. and Maude Anna Ballard Floyd. He married Melba Lacy on September 15, 1947. He later married Carol Dillard on October 3, 1993 in Jacksonville and she survives. He is also survived by four sons, Kenneth (wife, Pam) Floyd, Paul (fiancé, Shari Bettis) Floyd, Mark D. (wife, Shawn) Floyd, and Robert Floyd, all of Jacksonville; two daughters, Michell (husband, Frank) Angelo of Arenzville and Melissa (husband, Joe) Newingham of Jacksonville; one stepson, Tim (wife, Michele) Mitchell of Jacksonville; two stepdaughters, Tresha (husband, Steve) Compton of Brighton and Linda (husband, Gary) Turner of Jacksonville; eleven grandchildren, eleven greatgrandchildren, five stepgrandchildren; one brother, Gilbert (wife, Lois) Floyd of Meredosia; one sister, Josephine Logsdon of Mt. Sterling; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, Darel Lee and David Junior; three grandchildren, one brother, Frances; and three sisters, Evelyn Reining, Norma June Smith, and Genevive Floyd. Mr. Floyd was assistant fire chief at the Jacksonville Developmental Center for many years. He later taught at JDC, and retired after 35 years of service. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, as a gunner’s mate. He was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church and the VFW. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2003, at the Williamson Funeral Home, with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Mary Edith Franklin
Edith Franklin, 83, of Winchester passed away Friday (February 14, 2003) at Pittsfield Manor. She was born December 23, 1919 in Leon, Iowa the daughter of the late Harrison Hyatt and May Van Horn Reynolds. She married William Franklin April 7, 1945 in Burlington, Iowa, and he preceded her in death May 29, 1966. Also preceding her was a son Francis Dean Reynolds and a daughter Emma Louise Pearson, a great granddaughter Megan Evans, 2 sisters Teresa Rauch and Nadine Baker, 6 brothers Elmer, Hubert, Clair, Harry, Harley and Howard Gene Reynolds. Mrs. Franklin was a Licensed Practical Nurse at the State Hospital in Jacksonville fro many years. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, she loved visiting with her great grandchildren, jigsaw and crossword puzzles and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Survivors include 4 daughters Barbara (husband Ron) Carter of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Linda (husband Tom) Paul of Winchester, Jane White of Winchester and Judy Franklin of Detroit. 2 sons James (wife Nancy) Franklin of Burlington, and William Howard Franklin of New London, Iowa. 25 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. 3 sisters Rene McLain of DesMoines, Iowa, Iva Judd and Dollie Sissel both of Falmouth, Kentucky, and a brother Carl Maxwell Reynolds of DesMoines, Iowa as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday (February 18, 2003) at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in the Winchester City Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 PM Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Church Building fund.

Ms. Beryl Galaway
Beryl Galaway, age 95, of Urbana, formerly of White Hall, died early Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 at Clark Lindsey Village in Urbana. She was born June 11, 1907 in Meredosia, the daughter of James and Melissa Totten Galaway. She is survived by nieces and nephews, including Mary Ann Steen of Leesburg, Florida and James Galaway of El Paso, Texas. She was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys F. Kittel and one brother, Elmo O. Galaway. Ms. Galaway received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Illinois College; her Bachelor of Science in Library Science Degree from the University of Illinois and her Master of Arts in Library Science Degree from the University of Michigan. She was a teacher and/or librarian in Richmond, Bridgeport, Robinson and Pekin. She was head librarian at Evansville College in Evansville, Indiana and was the Assistant Professor and Assistant Librarian at Milner Library at the Illinois State University at Normal. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Champaign, and a member of the American Library Association and Pi Lambda Theta. She retired to White Hall with her sister, Gladys Kittel and spent many happy winters in Orlando, Florida. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at the White Hall Cemetery in White Hall. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lloyd H. Galloway
Lloyd Galloway, age 97, of Pittsfield, Ill. died 10:10 p.m. Sunday (March 16, 2003) at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Ill. He was born March 10, 1906 in Pittsfield, Ill. son of the late Clifford and Margaret Long Galloway. He married Tessie Marie Mabe on March 11, 1943 in St. Louis, Mo. and she preceded him in death. Surviving is one son, Dale Galloway and wife Sandy of Pittsfield, Ill.; one daughter, Betty Jean Allen and husband Carl of Quincy, Ill.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Hardesty of Mt. Carmel, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lawrence Galloway, Lyndle Galloway, and Cleon Galloway and Leslie Galloway; and two sisters, Maude Burbridge and Mary Wyatt. Mr. Galloway was a custodian for the Pittsfield Post Office as well as a grain & livestock farmer south of Pittsfield, Ill. for many years. He was a W.W. II veteran serving in the U.S. Army and a past member of the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday (March 20, 2003) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Ill. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery south of Pittsfield, Ill. where graveside military rites will be conducted by Pittsfield American Legion Post #152. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to the Burbridge Cemetery.

Dalton Lee Garman
Dalton Lee Garman, infant son of Glenn J. and Crystal R. Waite Garman died Saturday morning (March 15, 2003) at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Surviving are his parents, Glenn and Crystal Garman of Concord, Ill.; maternal grandparents, Roger and Cathy Waite of Bluffs, Ill.; paternal grandmother, Carol Garman of Winchester, Ill.; maternal great-grandparents, George and Mildred Helwig of Bluffs, Ill. and Kyle Waite of Pittsfield, Ill.; paternal great-grandmother, Josephine Murphy of Bluffs, Ill.; a close friend of the family, Barb Puckett of Pekin, Ill.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday (March 20, 2003) at the Hinman Chapel Cemetery near Griggsville, Ill. with Rev. David Schultz officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Ill. Memorials may be made to the Hinman Chapel Cemetery.

Mamie Lucille Garrison (Axley)
Mrs. Mamie Lucille Garrison of Ashley, Il. departed this life in the Washington County Hospital at Nashville, Il. on Sunday, June 1, 2003 at 11:08 P.M. She had attained the age of 92 years, 7 months and 10 days. Mrs. Garrison was born in Fayette Twp., Green e County, Il. on October 21, 1910 the daughter of Isaac and Nora (nee Reynolds) Axley. She was united in marriage to Elmer R. Garrison in Jerseyville, Il. on March 2, 1928 and he preceded her in death on December 10, 1991. Lucille worked for the Illinois Dept. of Mental Health as a psychiatric aid at Jacksonville, Il. until her retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Ashley, Il. She also was a member of the Washington County Senior Services and was active at the Radom Nutrition Site. Mrs. Garrison also wrote a column for the Ashley News. Left to mourn her passing are 5 sons; Jim Garrison and wife Lus of Converse, Tx. Ralph Garrison of Ashley, Il. Lindell Garrison and wife Linda of Chandlerville, Il. Raymond Garrison and wife Linda of New Douglas, Il. and Michael Garrison and wife Katherine of Mascoutah, Il. 3 daughters; Ann Ruedin of Godfrey, Il. Niela Hires and husband Jesse of Carrollton, Il. and Mary Marshall of Alton, Il. 3 sisters; Irene Davis of Jacksonville, Il. Anna Moore of Carlinville, Il. and Minnie Hall of Whitehall, Il. 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers; Russell and Raymond Axley, and 5 sisters; Viola Bigham, Bertha Welch, Edith Culbreth, Dorothy Braden and Esther Glover. Funeral service will be held in the United Methodist Church of Ashley, Il. on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Jan Laws officiating. Graveside services will be held at the Carrollton City Cemetery at Carrollton, Il. on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at 2 P.M. Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home of Ashley, Il. on Wednesday, June 4 from 9 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. and at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton, Il. on Thursday, June 5, after 1 P.M. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Ashley United Methodist Church or to the Radom Nutrition Site and will be accepted by the funeral home.
