Roberta Hughes
Roberta A. Hughes, the sister of Gatesville resident Marcia A. Bryant, died Friday, September 25, 1998, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. A resident of New Whiteland, she was 60.
Mrs. Hughes was born November 11, 1937, in Indianapolis to James I. Campton and Margaret Goss Campton. Her mother lives in New Whiteland.
She and James J. Hughes Sr. were married July 31, 1954, in Indianapolis. He survives.
Mrs. Hughes worked as an office manager and bookkeeper at Midwest Brake and Wheel for 16 years, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of Whiteland United Methodist Church and Franklin Senior Citizens Center.
Other survivors include a son, Joe Hughes Jr. of New Whiteland; a brother, James I. Campton Jr. of Clayton; another sister, Karol Miller of New Whiteland; and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her father; a brother, William Campton; and a sister, Kathryn Campton
A service was conducted Tuesday, September 29, at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home's State Road 135 Chapel.
Burial was in Johnson County's Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Marilyn Ledbetter
Former area resident Marilyn Joyce Ledbetter died Thursday, October 1, 1998, at Livingston Regional Hospital in Livingston, Tennessee. A resident of Bargersville, she was 51.
Mrs. Ledbetter was born February 3, 1947, in Trafalgar to Charles H. and Lottie Edwards Wells.
She and James H. Ledbetter were married April 21, 1969, in Celina, Tennessee. He died September 22, 1980.
Mrs. Ledbetter had worked as a welder at Arvin Industries in Franklin for 13 years.
She was graduated from Trafalgar High School in 1965.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Robert Owens of Livingston, Tennessee; a son, James Charles Ledbetter of Franklin; a sister, Virginia Wells of White Hall, Illinois; two brothers, Robert Lee Wells of Temperance, Michigan and Charles H. Wells Jr. of Sullivan; and a grandson, James Owens.
Mrs. Ledbetter was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Janet Sue Wells.
The Reverend Ted Burchett led a service Monday, October 5, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in Johnson County's Harris Cemetery.

Mary E. Lucas
Mary E. Routier Lucas died Friday morning, October 2, 1998, at Columbus Regional Hospital. A resident of that city, she was 63.
Mrs. Lucas was born in Bartholomew County to Ebert and Beatrice Crane Routier.
She had taught at Nashville Elementary School. Mrs. Lucas also had worked as the head cook at the old Fiesta Restaurant in Nashville.
Mrs. Lucas was a member of Grandview Apostolic Church in Van Buren Township.
Survivors include six daughters, Anita Monroe of Greenfield, Diana Poole of Brownstown, Mary Anne Miller of Edinburgh, Peggy Jo Cash, Sharon Pedigo and Tammy Lucas, all of Columbus; two brothers, James Allen Routier and Richard Wayne Routier, both of Edinburgh; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Billy Routier.
The Reverend Dorvin Bailey led a service Monday, October 5, at Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel in Columbus.
Burial was in that city's Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice of charities.

Judy Niehaus
Cordry Sweetwater Conservancy District resident Judy Ann Hendrix Niehaus died Thursday, October 1, 1998, at her home. She was 57.
Mrs. Niehaus was born August 5, 1941, in Nevada, Missouri to Herman and Ruby Sternberg Hendrix.
She and Larry J. Niehaus were married March 23, 1985. He survives.
Mrs. Niehaus had owned and operated Niehaus Masonry in Nineveh starting in 1985. She also acted as the company's bookkeeper.
Other survivors include two sons, Samuel D. Alexander of Indianapolis and Edward K. Alexander of Cicero; two daughters, Stormy Gail Basler of Danville and Wendy Kristine Alexander of Bloomington; a step-daughter, Regina Miles of Indianapolis; a step-son, Larry Niehaus Jr. of Indianapolis; a brother, Herman Butch Hendrix; four sisters, Betty Sue Ransom, Karen Jackson, Geri Oakley and Patty Gale Webber; and 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
A service was conducted Monday, October 5, at Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home in Indianapolis.
Burial was in that city's Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics of Indiana, 5648 West 7th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46278.

Wilma G. Rice
Former Helmsburg postmistress Wilma G. Rice died Thursday, October 1, 1998, at St. Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Beech Grove. A resident of Seymour, she was 78
Mrs. Rice was born March 27, 1920, in Sparksville to Samuel J. Baker and Nancy J. Howell Baker.
She and Louis B. Rice were married January 14, 1939, in Indianapolis. He died July 5, 1984.
Mrs. Rice moved to Jackson County from Helmsburg in 1981.
She had also operated a beauty shop in Helmsburg. Mrs. Rice had also been a member of the Helmsburg Town Council in the 1970s.
Mrs. Rice was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Seymour.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Rice of Greenwood; a sister, Flo Flinn of Cortland; a brother, Asher Baker of Bedford; four grandsons, Brian Rice of Florida, Dennis Rice of Georgia and Glenn Rice and Gregory Rice, both of Indiana; four great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Rice of Greenwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and four brothers.
Garrett Mills conducted a service Monday, October 5, in Johnson County's Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Voss and Sons Funeral Service in Seymour was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dixon Chapel Church or the donor's choice of charities, in care of Voss and Sons Funeral Service, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana, 47274.

Almagene Sexton
Almagene B. Sexton died Tuesday morning, September 29, 1998, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. A resident of Columbus, she was 65.
Mrs. Sexton was born December 25, 1932, in Seymour to Harry and Holland Brown.
She had worked at Columbus Sportswear and Cosco in Bartholomew County for many years before retiring.
She was a member of the Double YY Saddle Club.
Survivors include two sons, Cory Sexton of Columbus and Kevin Sexton of Nashville; two daughters, Tara Schoettmer and Chandra Robertson, both of Columbus; and six grandchildren.
Debra Sexton offered a eulogy Thursday, October 1, at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus.
The body was cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

Dawn Skinner
Former Brown County resident Dawn McCormick Skinner died Thursday, September 24, 1998, at Hospice of Denver Metro in Colorado. A resident of Aurora, Colorado, she was 43.
Mrs. Skinner was born April 15, 1955, in Indianapolis to Norman H. and Patricia Miller McCor-mick. Her parents survive on Lower Schoo-ner Road.
She and Gary Skinner were married May 27, 1995, in Indianapolis. He survives in Colorado.
Mrs. Skinner was graduated from Brown County High School in 1973.
She attended Blue River Vocational College and was graduated magna cum laude 'with high praise' from Clark Business College in 1984.
Mrs. Skinner had worked as an accountant with Navajo Manufacturing in Denver.
Before that, she had worked for several years at L.C. Cassiday in Indianapolis.
Other survivors include a son, Rocky McCormick of Nashville; two daughters, Tiffany McCormick and Cortney Branam, both of Bloomington; two grandsons, Cody McCormick of Nashville and Caleb Branam of Bloomington; a brother, Scott McCormick of Brown County; a sister, Kelli Eastridge of Brown County; two nieces, Bridget Hudson and Lori Minett; and three nephews, Brady Eastridge, Brent Eastridge and Drew Minett.
Mrs. McCormick was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Pastor J. Wesley Powell will speak at a memorial service Thursday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Duncan Community Church off Yellowwood Road.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Thelma Smithey
Thelma Mae Doty Smithey died Friday, October 2, 1998, at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. A resident of New Whiteland, she was 76.
Mrs. Smithey left survivors in Brown County.
She was born November 27, 1921, to Grover and Orpha Ruth Day Doty.
She and Max Denzel Smithey were married March 25, 1944, in Smith Valley. He died October 25, 1991.
Mrs. Smithey was a homemaker. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church in Franklin.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Bunce of New Whiteland; three sons, Rick Smithey of Deltona, Florida, Randy Smithey of Morgantown and Ted Smithey of Greenwood; three brothers, Chileen Doty of Bargersville, Delmar Doty of Commiskey and Lawrence Doty of Trafalgar; two sisters, Martha Baker of Franklin and Marline Walker of Nashville; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a step-grandson; four brothers; and two sisters.
The Reverend Mike Johnson conducted a service Monday, October 5, at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home's Bargersville Chapel.
Burial was in Johnson County's Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Mabel T. Taylor
Brown County native Mabel T. Taylor died Thursday afternoon, October 1, 1998, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center. A resident of that city, she was 90.
Mrs. Taylor was born November 26, 1907, in New Bellsville to Charles H. and Cora E. Deaver Moore.
She was married to Frank Taylor. He died in 1936.
Mrs. Taylor earned a degree from Butler University in Indianapolis.
She taught for many years at State Street School in Columbus before retiring.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of First Christian Church, Columbus Educators, National Education Association and Indiana State Teachers Association.
Survivors include two brothers, Garlen Moore and James E. Moore, both of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Minor Moore, Merritt Moore; and a sister, Burnell Hedrick.
A service was conducted Saturday, October 4, at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home in Columbus.
Burial was in that city's Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church in Columbus.

Deloris Williams
Former Brown County resident Deloris F. Hamm Williams died Friday, October 2, 1998, at Todd Aikens Health Center in Franklin. A resident of that city, she was 58.
Mrs. Williams was born September 26, 1940, in Morgan County to Cecil A. and Ruth Norman Mosburg.
She and Charles W. "Wally" Williams Jr. were married in October 1994. He survives in Johnson County.
Mrs. Will-iams had work-ed at Music Land in Frank-lin for the last two years. Before that, she had worked as a real estate broker with Nashville's Jane Gore Realty.
She was a member of the Martinsville Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Spencer American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Brown County Board of Realtors Association, Brown County Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and Morgantown Baptist Church.
Mrs. Williams enjoyed traveling, camping and reading.
She had attended the old Morgantown High School and held her real estate salesman and broker's license.
Other survivors include a daughter, Pamela S. Kindred of Poland; three sons, James E. Hamm of Morgantown and Ron E. Hamm and Scott E. Hamm, both of Nashville; a sister, Anna Mae Hovious of Martinsville; a brother, Ralph Mosburg of Jamestown; and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Melvin Mosburg.
The Reverend Peter F. Jessen led a service Monday, October 5, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
Burial was in that community's East Hill Cemetery.
