Robert H. Hockersmith

May 23, 1940 – July 12, 2007

Robert H. Hockersmith, 67, of Knightstown, died July 12 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

He was born May 23, 1940, in Passaic, N.J., a son of the late Robert Hockersmith, Sr., and Elizabeth Betty Jane (Bowman) Hockersmith.

Mr. Hockersmith was an auditor at Indiana Insurance Company for 37 years. He was a freelance auditor for 10 years before his retirement. In 1986, he married Carolyn, who died in 1997. He was a member of Knightstown United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his former wife, Paula K. Grant of Greenwood; two daughters, Diana L. (husband, Kent) Bennett of Greenwood and Linda A. (husband, Kenneth) Mushen of Noblesville; and four grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife.

Funeral services were July 16 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was July 15 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dennis Wade Borgman

Oct. 23, 1960 – July 10, 2007

Dennis Wade Borgman, 46, of Wilkinson, died July 10 at Hancock Regional Hospital

He was born Oct. 23, 1969, a son of Terry and Phyllis (Ball) Borgman.

Mr. Borgman was a truck driver for Action Steel in Indianapolis. He was an avid NASCAR fan who loved horses and doing yard work. He was known as a loving father and husband.

Survivors include his wife, Estie “Darlene” Borgman of Wilkinson; a daughter, Amanda Borgman of Wilkinson; his father, Terry D. Borgman of Phoenix, Ariz.; his mother, Phyllis Borgman of Hamilton, Ala.; a brother, Ronnie Borgman of Hamilton, Ala., and Wilkinson; a sister, Janice Calvert of Hamilton, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Borgman, II; and a sister, June Melton.

Funeral services were July 13 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Doug Hardy officiating. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was July 12 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Borgman’s memory and to help defray funeral expenses. Contributions may be sent to Condo & Son Funeral Home, P.O. Box 128, Wilkinson, IN 46186.

Cassandra Jayne Taylor

Sept. 29, 1988 – July 23, 2007

Cassandra Jayne Taylor, 18, of Knightstown, died July 23 at her home.

She was born Sept. 29, 1988, in Hancock County, a daughter of Russell and Jayne (Manning) Taylor.

Miss Taylor attended Knightstown High School and was known as a smart, kindhearted girl. She had an active sense of humor and she loved music, especially N’Sync and Fifty Cent.

Survivors include her parents; a brother, Zachary Zornes of Knightstown; grandparents, Tom and Sharon Nelson of Charlottesville, Richard and Dorothy Taylor of Greenfield and Norman Manning of Spiceland; four aunts, Anna Wilhelm-Hicks of Spiceland, Amanda (husband, Brad) Newkirk of Rushville, Lynda Taylor of Greenfield and Debbie (husband, David) Fox of Greenfield; two uncles, Ed (wife, Kris) Manning of New Castle and Tommy Nelson of Charlottesville; and several cousins.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Ed Manning officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at the funeral home.

Roger T. Baker

Aug. 15, 1949 – July 22, 2007

Roger T. Baker, 57, of Fortville, formerly of Knightstown, died July 22 at the Indiana Heart Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Aug. 15, 1949, in Hillsdale, Mich., a son of the late Robert and Goldie Baker.

Mr. Baker was a maintenance worker at the Daily Reporter in Greenfield for nearly 10 years. He enjoyed fly fishing, tying his own flies and golfing. He was known as a family-oriented man who took interest in his daughter’s activities. Mr. Baker was active in Cornerstone Baptist Church in Lawrence.

Survivors include his wife, Doris J. “DJ” (Carr) Baker of Fortville; a son, Richard T. Baker of Florida; two daughters, Sarah J. Johnson and Synthia E. Baker, both of Fortville; three brothers; and two stepsisters.

Funeral services were July 25 at Seals Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Fortville with Pastor Donald Mitchell officiating. Cremation followed. Visitation was July 24 at the funeral home.

Nancy Kay Eck

June 9, 1950 – July 22, 2007

Nancy Kay Eck, 57, of Boone Township, died July 22 at her home.

She was born June 9, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio, a daughter of Philip and Elise (Bean) Workman.

Mrs. Eck graduated from Indiana University and taught elementary physical education at Richmond Community Schools and Precious Blood School in Jasper. She was a former Miss Ohio Valley in Ohio and Miss Moorehead University. She also participated in competitive roller skating. Mrs. Eck was involved in many musical and theater groups in Orange and Dubois counties, and was a former member of the Orange County Players. In addition, she was an enthusiastic environmentalist. She married Gary Eck on Jan. 30, 2000. A member of Tri Kappa sorority, Mrs. Eck was also a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Boone Township where she sang with the Praise Band.

Survivors include her husband, Gary; a daughter, Genevieve (husband, Mark) Phillips of Knightstown; two sons, Andre and Geritt Guillaume, both of Indianapolis; a stepson, Brandon Eck of Jasper; two stepdaughters, Stephanie Eck of Terre Haute and Jennifer Eck at home; her parents; a sister, Bobbie Condra of West Baden; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Brian Workman and Philip, an infant.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 26, at St. John Lutheran Church in Boone Township. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, and one hour prior to funeral services at the church.

Stanley H. Guinn

Nov. 25, 1932 – July 21, 2007

Stanley H. Guinn, 74, of Kennard, died July 21 at his home.

He was born Nov. 25, 1932, a son of the late Wendell and Maudie (Gossage) Guinn.

Mr. Guinn was a Greenfield business man, having owned and operated a family business, The Sweet Shop, with his wife, Mary. They opened the business in 1971. Most of the Guinn has worked at the shop at one time or another. Some still work there today. Mr. Guinn was an avid fisherman and bowler. He enjoyed going to flea markets. Most of all, though, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary (Hiner) Guinn of Kennard; a daughter, Mona Gail (husband, Roger) Clark of Shelbyville; four sons, Marland (fiance, Cherry) Guinn of Knightstown, Dennis (wife, Julie) Henderson of Spiceland; Kenny (wife, Melissa) Henderson of Shirley, and Monty (wife, Tina) Guinn of Greenfield; 12 grandchildren, Mindi Lloyd, Matt and Andy Lloyd, Michael Guinn, Ericka Young, Jared Henderson, Jessie and Zach Henderson, A.J. Fairchild, McKinley Henderson, and Amanda and Cameron Guinn; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gene (wife, Coretta) Guinn of South Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an uncle, A.C. Gossage.

Funeral services were July 25 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Pastor Danny Shelton officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was July 24 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Shirley Ann Jackson

March 22, 1936 – July 20, 2007

Shirley Ann Jackson, 71, of Yorktown, died July 20 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

She was born March 22, 1936, in Shirley, a daughter of the late Thurston and Stella (Cline) Zornes.

Mrs. Jackson retired from AT&T after 39 years of service. She was active in the union and participated in the executive board. She donated her talents to the Pioneer Organization and was a member of Muncie First Church of the Nazarene. She was known as a generous, caring person who put others before herself.

Survivors include her husband, Larry G. Jackson of Yorktown; a son, Jeff Jackson of Ellettsville; two daughters, Amy (husband, Eric) Moore of Hernando, Miss., and Serena (husband, Jeremiah) Watts of Tuttle, Okla.; five grandchildren, Wesley and Jessie Moore and Christopher, Justin and Seth Watts; a sister, Judy Hall of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; a brother, Steve Zorners of North Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Sharon Jones and Sue Fairchild.

Funeral services were July 25 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Revs. Mark Dill and Oscar Clark officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was July 24 at the funeral home.
