Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Annastasia Marie Willis

August 25, 1981 - January 10, 2010

Annastasia Marie Willis, 28, died Jan. 10 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was born Aug. 25, 1981, in Whurzburg, Germany.

Survivors include a son, Cordell Jay Lucas; her father, Dennis (wife, Sandy) Willis of Knightstown; her mother, Roberta Willis of Salt Lake City; three brothers, Brett (wife, Kim) Willis and Ryan (wife, Susan) Stallsworth, all of Indianapolis, and Chase Willis of Knightstown; five sisters, Heidi (husband, William) Self and Laura (husband, Matt) Sidwell, all of Knightstown, Holly Willis of Burly, Idaho, Shawna (husband, Ralph) Burns of Knightstown and Kayla Stallsworth of Indianapolis; her great-grandmother, Elsie Carpenter; a grandmother, Debby Willis, both of Kokomo; Vernon and Mae Pack, both of Indianapolis; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Donald Willis; and Howard and Olga Taber.

Funeral services were Jan. 16 at Ellers Mortuary in Kokomo with Bishop Dee Marler officiating. Burial followed at Crown Point Cemetery.

Marie Denney

September 25, 1923 - January 14, 2010

Marie (Rhodes) Denney, 86, of Shirley, died Jan. 14 at Brandywine Living Center in Greenfield.

She was born Sept. 25, 1923, in Kokomo, a daughter of the late Harold and Della (Rhodes) Denney.

Mrs. Denney was once known as "Little Judy" and was an emcee in Richmond. She performed as an evangelistic singer in several states. She also played and sang with Little Jimmy Hughes around the New Castle area in the 1950s. Mrs. Denney was known for her Christian faith. She attended Shirley Friends Church and several other area churches.

Survivors include three sons, David (wife, Kay) Denney of Knightstown, Bill Denney of Shirley and Ronald Denney of Shirley; eight grandchildren, Tammy (husband, Rich) Kolosso of Pueblo, Co., Melissa (husband, Kenney) Henderson of Shirley, Amanda (husband, Matthew) Zering of Appleton, Wis., Carissa (husband, Ryan) Brammer of Indianapolis, Scott and Craig Denney of Knightstown, Joshua Denney of Philadelphia and Tara Denney of Georgetown, Ky.; several great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larson Denney; an infant brother, Ivan Rhodes; and a brother, Lowell "Doby" Rhodes.

Funeral services were Jan. 18 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Revs. Charles Riggs and Dale Riggs officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was Jan. 17 at the funeral home.

Carolee J. Speer

August 2, 1934 - January 24, 2010

Carolee J. Speer, 76, of Charlottesville, died Jan. 24 at her home.

She was born Aug. 2, 1934, in Bagota, Ill., a daughter of the late Manford and Ruth (Tate) Curtis.

Mrs. Speer was a 1951 Charlottesville High School graduate. She later served as a secretary for the Charlottesville School Corporation for eight years while helping her husband farm.

Mrs. Speer enjoyed painting, nature and entertaining guests. Known as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was an active member of Nameless Creek Christian Church for 60 years. She was also a past member of Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Speer of Charlottesville; three children, Darlene Livingston of Knightstown, John (wife, Bonnie) Speer of Charlottesville and Brent (wife, Kim) Speer of Wetumpka, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Carrie Ferree, Julie (husband, Clyde) Maxwell, Kevin Livingston, Tyler Speer, Erica Speer, Bradley Speer, Collier Speer and Wesley Speer; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanita Marshall of Greenfield; her mother-in-law, Helen Speer of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Livingston; and her father-in-law, Everett Speer.

Funeral services are at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Dr. Jim Carcia officiating. Visitation is 5 p.m. until time of services on Jan. 28.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nameless Creek Christian Church, 3856 N. 800 E., Greenfield, IN 46140.

Doris L. Howard

December 19, 1920 - January 24, 2010

Doris L. Howard, 89, died Jan. 24 in Indianapolis.

She was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Henry County, a daughter of the late Henry and Ruth (Miner) Sohn.

Mrs. Howard was a member of Knightstown United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Psi Iota Xi sorority in Knightstown and, being a 1938 Knightstown High School graduate, a charter member of the Knightstown High School Alumni Association. She had worked as a cafeteria manager in the Charles A. Beard Memorial School Corporation.

Survivors include a daughter, Delores (husband, Albert) Verdouw of Indianapolis; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay J. Howard; and a sister.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Kenneth Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at the funeral home.

Nina Barnard

July 20, 1930 - January 22, 2010

Nina Barnard, 79, of Wilkinson, died Jan. 22 at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home in Middletown.

She was born July 20, 1930, in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Floyd and Alta (Wisehart) Railsback.

Mrs. Barnard was a 1948 Wilkinson High School graduate who worked at Marsh for 12 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a member of Wilkinson Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Barnard of Wilkinson; two children, Kerry (wife, Linda) Barnard of Wilkinson and Karen (husband, Jerome) Willis of Greenfield; five grandchildren, Mike Willis, Kyle Barnard, Kevin Willis, Karman Williams and Kelly Alexander; and four great-grandchildren, Ashton Willis, Kennedy Alexander, Hailey Willis and Carson Barnard.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Jean Railsback and Julia Kaufman.

Funeral services were Jan. 26 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Terry Kemp and Russ Lutes officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was Jan. 25 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 50 E. 91st St., Ste. 100, Indianapolis.

William K. Vest

September 26, 1938 - January 20, 2010

William K. Vest, 71, of Wilkinson, died Jan. 20 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Sept. 26, 1938, in Anderson, a son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Winship) Vest.

Mr. Vest retired from Delco Remy in Anderson after 36 years of service. While at Delco Remy he served on the fire brigade in the production factory. Mr. Vest was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Wilkinson Church of Christ and the Anderson YMCA. He enjoyed swimming and was an avid Purdue and Notre Dame fan.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Collier) Vest of Wilkinson; a daughter, Lori (husband, Jeff) Ochsner of Greenwood; a son, William Gregory (wife, Janice) Vest of Louisville; four grandchildren, Haley, Olivia and Josie Ochsner and Janelis Negron; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Jan. 23 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Ryan McCarty, Russ Lutes and Terry Kemp officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was Jan. 22 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wilkinson Church of Christ, 7293 N. St. Rd. 109, Wilkinson IN 46186.

Christopher L. Stark

June 16, 1969 - January 9, 2010

Christopher L. Stark, 40, of Rushville, died Jan. 9 at his home.

He was born June 16, 1969, in Rushville, a son of Jerry L. and Carol (Jones) Stark.

Mr. Stark was a machinist at Bunge Corporation in Morristown. An avid hunter, fisherman and trapper, he was a member of Center Christian Church. He enjoyed camping and other outdoor activities.

In addition to his parents, survivors include three sons, Matthew Z. Stark of Connersville, and Caleb Stark and Jacob Stark of North Carolina; two sisters, Kimberly Ravelli of Prosper, Tex., and Angela Stark of Muncie; and one granddaughter, Hailey Marie Stark of Connersville.

Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Center Christian Church in Knightstown with Pastors Bill Worrell and Mick Sanders officiating. Visitation is 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Burial will follow at Center Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Center Christian Church building fund or the Central Indiana Cancer Center.
