Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Ruth V. Sprinkle

February 15, 1923 – Dec. 15, 2005

Ruth V. (Wright) Sprinkle, 82, of Greenfield, died Thursday, Dec. 15, at Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenfield.

She was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Harrodsburg, Ky., a daughter of the late Arthur and Nellie (Reynolds) Wright.

Mrs. Sprinkle lived in the Knightstown area since arriving from Bowling Green, Ky., in 1986. She was a 1941 graduate of New Castle High School. She was a secretary for Firestone Tire and Rubber for 35 years. In 1947, she married Homer Sprinkle, who precedes her in death.

Survivors include a sister, Bonnie (husband, Bill) Brewer of Knightstown; two nieces, Linda (husband, Arthur) Hegewald of Indianapolis, and Lisa Brewer of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Pastor Steve Brackney officiating. Visitation was Monday, Dec. 19, at the funeral home. Burial took place at Dale Cemetery in Connersville.

Judith A. McCorkle

Aug. 22, 1935 – Dec. 13, 2005

Judith A. McCorkle, 70, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Ridgecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.

She was born Aug. 22, 1935, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Pauline Lewark.

Mrs. McCorkle lived most of her life in Knightstown where she worked at Mayhill Publications for nearly 30 years. In 1995, she moved with her daughter and grandchild to Phoenix. While there, she worked at Discover Card, retiring in 2000.

Survivors include a sister, Linda Wicks of Chandler, Ariz., two daughters, Robin (husband, Robert) Stanfield, and Lisa McCorkle, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandchildren, Jacob and David Stanfield, also of Phoenix.

Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 16, at Shadow Mountain Mortuary in Phoenix. Anyone wishing to correspond with Judy’s daughter, Robin Stanfield, may do so. Her address is 13220 North 28th St., Phoenix, AZ 85032.

Marsella Ruth Bell

Aug. 9, 1930 – Dec. 13, 2005

Marsella Ruth (Malone) Bell, 75, of New Castle died Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.

She was born Aug. 9, 1930, in Monticello, Ky., a daughter of the late Bradley and Madie (Criswell) Malone.

Mrs. Bell was a homemaker and worked at Parker Elementary School in New Castle for 13 years. She also worked at the New Castle State Hospital for five years. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church in New Castle.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Ann (husband, Don) Dishman and Kim (husband, Rick) Ball, both of New Castle, Janie (husband, Tom) Herman of Indianapolis, and Alicia (husband, David) Neal of New Castle; 11 grandchildren, Donnie and Ronnie Dishman, both of Sacramento, Cal., Chris Neal of New Castle, Lindsay Ray of New York City, NY, Donyell Morgan of Lovington, Ill., Aaron Dishman, Jessica Ball, Kendra Kennedy and Rick (Scooter) Ball, all of New Castle, Hannah Herman and Sophie Herman, both of Indianapolis; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jewelene Young of Monticello, and Lois (husband, Dallas) Troxell of Monticello, Ky.; and one brother, K.T. (wife, Lois) Malone of Monticello, Ky.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Hillard” Bell, who died in August 1995; and one son, Hollis V. Bell, who died in August 2005.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Main and Davis Funeral Home in New Castle with Revs. Charles Dugger and Tony Piper officiating. Burial followed in South Mound Cemetery, Westlawn addition, in New Castle. Visitation was 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the funeral home.

Mary Kathryn Brown

Sept. 1, 1919 – Dec. 12, 2005

Mary Kathryn (Dunagan) Brown, 86, of New Castle, died Monday, Dec. 12, at Heritage House Convalescent Center in New Castle.

She was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Bronston, Ky., a daughter of the late Fred C. and Lela (Edwards) Dunagan.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church in New Castle. She loved animals and enjoyed camping with her late husband, Clarence, who was a foreman at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle.

Survivors include a sister, Hazel Gibson of Somerset, Ky.; a sister-in-law and caregiver, Phyllis (Brown) Neal of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and a nephew, Charles Duggar.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Main and Davis Funeral Home, Broad Street Chapel, in New Castle with Revs. Robert Pavey and Chris Shore officiating. Burial took place in South Mound Cemetery, Westlawn addition. Visitation was 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the funeral home, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Ruby F. Brown

May 3, 1921 – Feb. 25, 2005

Knightstown resident, Ruby F. Brown, 83, died Friday, February 25 at Regency Place in Greenfield. She was born May 3, 1921 in Rush County, a daughter of the late James E. and Esther (Hamm) Pitts.

Mrs. Brown retired in 1987 from Chrysler Shadeland Plant in Indianapolis.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert Brown of Knightstown; one son, Anthony “Pete” (wife Pat) Stonerock of Marion; four daughters, Diane (husband Bill) Brosius of Carmel, Cynthia Tompkins of Knightstown, Michele (husband John) White of Knightstown and Bobbi (husband Larry) Aikens of Highland, Md.; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Agnes Goodwin of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 1 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Monday, February 28. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Richard E. Williams

Jan. 28, 1920 – Feb. 22, 2005

Richard E. Williams, 85, of Knightstown, died February 22 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born January 28, 1920 in Knightstown, a son of the late Harvey and Leta Kinsel Williams.

Mr. Williams was a printer and had retired from Rogers Typesetting in Indianapolis. He also worked at Mayhill Publications for 20 years. He was a 1938 graduate of Knightstown High School and was a WW II Army veteran. He was a member of the Knightstown United Methodist Church and the American Legion.

On June 20, 1946, he married Betty Jean Dawson and she survives. Other survivors are two daughters, Patricia (husband Michael) Keller of Crooked River Ranch, Oregon and Lisa (husband Denny) Oakes of Wilkinson; one brother Harvey “Jim” (wife Luana) Williams of Knightstown; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Dustin Oakes of Wilkinson.

He was preceded in death by one son, a brother and one grandchild.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 25 at Todd Funeral Home Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Rev. Steve Brackney officiating. Burial with military rites was at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Thursday, February 24.

Willard Plank

July 15, 1930 – Feb. 25, 2005

Willard Plank, 74, of Knightstown, died Friday, February 25 in Hancock Memorial Hospital, Greenfield. He was born July 15, 1930 in Morehead, Ky., a son of the late Elmer and Rosa (Egan) Plank.

Mr. Plank had lived most of his life in Knightstown. He was the Sergeant of Corrections Officers at the Pendleton Reformatory where he was a member of the Reformatory Pistol team. Mr. Plank was a member of the Knightstown Police Dept. from 1958-1966. One of his greatest pleasures was taking his grandchildren fishing and hunting.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, March 2) at the Todd Funeral Home Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, March 1.
