Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Beulah M. Oldham

Dec. 24, 1927 – Oct. 19, 2004

A native of Henry County, Beulah M. Oldham, 76, of Greenfield died Tuesday, October 19 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield after a brief illness. She was born December 24, 1927 in Henry County, a daughter of the late Charles Nobel and Ruby L. (Lemay) Scott.

Mrs. Oldham was a member of the North Side Christian Church of Greenfield, the Happy Seniors club, Greenfield Singles, the Senior Center for over 50 years, Ford Retirees Widow Ladies and UAW LU#1111 Retired Association. She retired from Delco Remy in Anderson after 18 years of service.

Survivors include two brothers, Marvin (wife Val) Scott of Greenfield and Charles Duard (wife Barbara) Scott of Boca Raton, Fla.; two sisters, Rosalyn Bryant of Greenfield and Lela (husband Joe) Kiplinger of Woodland, Calif.; a cousin, Myrle of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Oldham in 1991 and a brother, Wilman A. Scott.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 22 at the North Side Christian Church in Greenfield with Nick Skinner and Glenn Cunningham officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Visitation was held Thursday, October 21 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville and also prior to the service at the North Side Christian Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the North Side Christian Church, 1304 Greenfield Dr., Greenfield, IN 46140.

Roxanne Longworth/Smith

March 10, 1959 – Oct. 17, 2004

Roxanne Longworth/Smith, 45, of Greens Fork, died Sunday, October 17 in Reid Hospital in Richmond. She was born in New Castle on March 10, 1959, a daughter of the late Harold and Agatha Dalton Smith.

Mrs. Longworth/Smith had lived most of her life in Wayne county.

Survivors include three daughters, Sara Longworth, Samantha Longworth and Melissa Longworth, all of Wilkinson; one sister, Sharon Page of Connersville; four brothers, Mike Smith of Cambridge City, Ron Smith of Richmond, Va., Rich Smith of Meridian, Idaho and Jon “Hank” Smith of Mobile, Ala.; a special friend, Tim Miller; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 21 in Culberson Funeral Home in Hagerstown with Rev. James Tilton officiating. Burial was be in West Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation was held prior to the service on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Ann Carey Bartle

July 27, 1909 – Oct. 26, 2004

Lifelong resident of Knightstown, Ann (Carey) Bartle, 95, died Tuesday, October 26 in Regency Place Nursing Home, Greenfield. She was born July 27, 1909 in Knightstown, a daughter of the late Vernon Carey and Harriet Pritchard Carey Esson.

Ann was secretary to the superintendent of Knightstown Schools for 31 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Knightstown Friends Church, Tri Kappa Sorority and the Knightstown Historical Society.

She married Chester D. Bartle on October 5, 1930 and he preceded her in death September 7, 1973.

Surviving are two daughters, Sue (husband Tom) Lawrence of Knightstown and Sara (husband Bill) Lowe of Arizona; one brothers, Joseph Carey of Kerrville, Texas; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and one niece and one nephew.

Services were held Friday, October 29 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel with Rev. Mervin Kilmer and Rev. Chris Sitler officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Thursday, October 28.

Mada J. Riddle

Sept. 5, 1922 – Oct. 26, 2004

Mada J. Riddle, 82, former resident of Knightstown, died Tuesday, October 26 at the Waters in New Castle. She was born September 5, 1922 in Clinton Co., Ky., a daughter of the late Tas and Minnie (Melton) Stailey.

Mrs. Riddle, a homemaker, had worked at Thompsons Restaurant in Knightstown. She was a member of the Spiceland Church of the Nazarene and the Straughn and Knightstown Brotherhood and Sisterhood.

Survivors include four children, Phyllis Harris of Wilkinson, Max (wife Melba) Riddle of Greensboro, Avis (husband Bill) Hughson of New Castle and Lewis (wife Judy) Riddle of Shirley; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Irene (husband Bill) Hall of New Castle, Elizabeth (husband Lee) Cecil of Albany, Ky., Ida “Billie” Sloan of New Castle and Etta Mae (husband Lyle) Dotson of Jackson, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse James Riddle in 1974; a son, James Donald Riddle in 1941; two sisters, Bessie Gregory and Edna Orr; and two infant brothers.

Services were held Saturday, October 30 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with the Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Friday, October 29.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., American Heart Society, or National Lung Association.

Oliver H. Longwell

May 1, 1915 – Oct. 30, 2004

Morristown resident, Oliver H. “Pete” Longwell, 89, died Saturday, October 30 in Morristown. He was born May 1, 1915 in Henry County, a son of the late David Alfred and Ruby Fern (Reid) Longwell.

Mr. Longwell was a local representative of Public Service for 45 years, retiring in 1980. He was a 1932 graduate of Spiceland High School. He served in the United States Army as a Tech Sgt. with the Signal Corp. He was a 50-year member of the Morristown American Legion, had been a leader of the Boy and Cub Scouts and a commissioner of the District. He was also a member of the Morristown Lions Club, member of Morristown Chamber of Commerce, receiving the Man of the Year award in 1978 and received an award for being the outstanding Boy Scout Commissioner.

On June 24, 1945, he married Roberta June “Bobbie” Gladback and she preceded him in death September 6, 1982.

Surviving are one son, David A. (wife Debra) Longwell of Morristown; two daughters, Becky Longwell of Morristown and Judy (husband James) Andis of Morristown; six grandchildren, James D, Andrew K. and Angela K. Longwell, Traci L. Roberts, Courtney and Michael Andis; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Anna Goodlin of Ogden.

Also preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were one sister and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 4 at the Frazier Funeral Home in Morristown with Rev. Carolyn Stoten officiating. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery with military rites by the Morristown American Legion.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Nov. 3) at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Morristown Boy Scouts with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Velma McDonald

June 30, 1929 – Nov. 1, 2004

Velma McDonald, 75, a resident of Wilkinson, died Monday, November 1 in Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She was born June 30, 1929 in Shirley, a daughter of the late Donald and Florence (Miller) Willis.

Mrs. McDonald retired from the Dollar General Store in Knightstown and had also worked at Hancock Memorial Hospital for 10 years. She was a member of the Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church. She was an avid camper, loved to crochet and work with plastic canvas.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana Wisehart of Wilkinson; one son, Allen McDonald of Connersville; four grandchildren, Rodney Wisehart of Shirley, Tammy Woods of New Castle, Dewight McDonald of Milton and Jennifer Baldwin of Centerville; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Viola Irwin of Indianapolis; two brothers, Don Willis of Shirley and Howard Willis of Sulphur Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennie McDonald in 1997; two brothers, Herbert and Kenneth Willis; a sister, Gladys Irene Willis; and a niece, Denise Ann Willis.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 5 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Jeff Mair officiating.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, November 4.

Rosemary Vest

Oct. 28, 1923 – Nov. 1, 2004

Rosemary Vest, 81, a resident of Knightstown, died Monday, November 1 in Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. She was born October 28, 1923 in Knightstown, a daughter of the late Henry and Verla (Scott) Jordan.

Mrs. Vest was a homemaker and babysitter for many years with Pamela Crawford. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed golf.

Surviving are three daughters, Becky (husband James) Linville of New Castle, Bonnie (husband Gilbert) Perkins of New Castle, and Myla Rose (husband John W.) French of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Terri Greenwalt, Beth Clark, John Greenwalt, Jerome Perkins, Rebecca Cole and Monte Ray Perkins; four step-grandchildren, Pamela Sue French, Kenneth French, Tim Linville and Scott Linville; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Dennis E. Vest; grandson, Dennis Greenwalt, four brothers, Zelpho Jordan, Harold Jordan, David Jordan and Max E. Jordan; two sisters, Helen Green and Virginia Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 6 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Paul Gearhardt officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
