Rexanna A. Hamm
July 9, 1951 - Oct. 29, 2002

Mrs. Rexanna Alison (Eckhardt) Hamm, 51, a resident of Knightstown, died Tuesday, October 29 in Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield following an extended illness. She was born July 9, 1951 in Anderson, a daughter of Rex and Patricia (Alexander) Eckhardt of Muncie.

Mrs. Hamm was a graduate of Yorktown High School and Ball State University. She was an English teacher at Morton Memorial High School, Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children's Home for 28 years. Rexanna was an active member of the Knightstown United Methodist Church and the Indiana State Teachers Association.

Other survivors besides her parents include her husband of 25 years, Gregory Hamm of Knightstown; two sons, Thomas Richard (wife Tina) Smith III of Oaklandon, Jay Alexander Hamm of Knightstown; a daughter, Alison Rebekah Hamm of Knightstown; two grandsons, Jackson and Drake Smith; two sisters, Kerry Eckhardt of Winston Salem, N.C. and Tracy Eckhardt of Orlando, Fla.; grandmother, Mary Alexander Kreisher of Yorktown; father-in-law Phil Hamm of Knightstown; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 2 at the Knightstown United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Brackney officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday, November 1 at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Knightstown United Methodist Church or the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, Inc.

Paul Holliday Jr.
Mar. 4, 1940 - Oct. 29, 2002

Paul "Butch" Holliday Jr., 62, a resident of Charlottesville, died Tuesday, October 29 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born March 4, 1940 in Hancock County, the son of the late Paul and Dorothea (Spegal) Holliday. Mr. Holliday was a member of Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church and the Knightstown Golden Rule Lodge # 16.

Survivors include his wife, Marilou (Simmons) Holliday of Charlottesville; a daughter, Lisa Bricker of Greenwood; two grandsons, two granddaughters, three brothers, Bud Holliday of Wilkinson, Gene Holliday of Greenfield and Steve Holliday of Indianapolis; three sisters, Ruth Barnhart, Sue Holmes and Linda Townsend, all of Greenfield; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kent Holliday and two brothers, Norman and Richard Holliday.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 1 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. David Patrick officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was held at the funeral home Thursday, October 31.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Leukemia Society.

Carol Sykes
July 23, 1940 - Oct. 31, 2002

Carole Ulrey Sykes, 62, of Bloomington, died Thursday, October 31 at her residence. She was born July 23, 1940 in Knightstown, a daughter of Herbert W. and Julia (Adams) Ulrey.

A graduate of Knightstown High School, she attended Hanover College and received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in education from Indiana University. Mrs. Sykes retired from the Monroe County Community School System after 25 years.

She was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Knightstown, United Presbyterian church of Bloomington, the Monroe Co. Education Association, Indiana State Teachers Assoc., Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Hanover College Tri Kappa Philanthropic Sorority.

Survivors include one son, Greg (wife Susan) Sykes of Lyons; one daughter, Julie (husband Terry) Hutslar of Bloomington; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; and one brother, Mark S. Ulrey of Phoenix, Ariz.

Her husband, Paul G. Sykes and her parents preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held Monday, November 4 at the United Presbyterian Church in Bloomington with Rev. David Bremer officiating. Private burial services were held in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Memorial contributions may be made to Child's School Library Fund, Knightstown Elementary School or the American Heart Association in care of Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington.

Jerry G. Butcher
April 6, 1929 - Nov. 10, 2002

Jerry G. Butcher, 73, of Knightstown, died Sunday, November 10 at his residence. He was born April 6, 1929 in Detroit, Mich., a son of Paul and Mary (Stevenson) Butcher.

Mr. Butcher was a retired funeral director who joined his father, Paul Butcher and his uncle, Carlisle Butcher in the family business, Butcher Funeral Home in Knightstown in 1959. Mr. Butcher owned the business until his retirement in August of 1988.

During the last few years, he had been employed by Tom Raper RV Sales in Richmond. He was a member of the Golden Rule Lodge #16 F & AM of Knightstown, Knightstown York Rite #33, Indianapolis Murat Shrine and was a former member of the Knightstown Chamber of Commerce.

On November 23, 1960, he married Marilyn Orr who survives. Other survivors include one son, Anthony "Tony" (wife Carol) Butcher of Green Bay, Wisc.; one brother, Orval Hamilton, Punta Gorda, Fla.; one sister, Betty (husband Charlie) Levi, Decatur; one niece, Dawn (husband Bill) Thurlow of Florida; one nephew, Larry B. (wife Barbara) Langford, New Castle; one great nephew, Michael (wife Linda) Langford of Avon; two great-nieces, Lara (husband Nathan) Conway and Emily Langford, both of New Castle; six grandchildren, Amber (husband Chuck) Gorth of Greenfield; Kerri (husband Rob) Gunn of Noblesville, Clint Michael Butcher of San Diego, Calif., and Matthew, Andrew and Patrick Butcher of Green Bay, Wisc. Funeral services for Mr. Butcher were held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Rev. Bill House officiating.

Visitation was held prior to the service on Tuesday. Private graveside services will be held today (Wednesday) at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Burchy F. Cronk
Sept. 15, 1921 - Nov. 7, 2002

Burchy F. Cronk, 81, a former resident of the Kennard and Shirley community, died Thursday, November 7 at Regency Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield.

She was born September 15, 1921 in Petersville, Ky., a daughter of the late William and Mary Jane (Green) Rice. Mrs. Cronk was a homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Sherry (husband Howard) Ledford of Greenfield; two sons, Jack and Max R. Cronk, both of Shirley; one brother, Carl (wife Pauline) Rice of Indianapolis; one sister, Nellie McKinley of Maxwell; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Cronk in 1992 and a sister, Nora Delauter.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 9 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Darrell Deck officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was held Friday at the funeral home.

Nancy K. Lyons
Oct. 22, 1945 - Year 2002

Funeral services will be held Saturday for Carthage resident Nancy Lyons, 46, who disappeared June 17. Reportedly, her remains were discovered in Bartholomew County October 4. The remains were identified last week through the work of a forensic dentist and investigators say they believed Lyons died of a blunt force to the skull. Indiana State Police investigators are treating her death as a homicide. Miss Lyons was born October 22, 1955 in Madison, a daughter of James W. and Cleata E. (Lockridge) Lyons. She was born and raised in Madison and was a 1974 graduate of Southwestern High School in Hanover. She was raised in and was a faithful member of the Wesleyan faith. She was a professional nanny in the Louisville, Ky. are for 11 years and then in the Indianapolis area until the mid-1990's. For the past three years, she had been a resident of Carthage. Lyons always enjoyed singing and reading and loved the outdoors, especially ocean fishing. She had a large collection of Boyd's Bears, which she cherished very much.

Survivors include her parents, James and Cleata Lyons of Madison, four sisters, Patricia (husband Larry) Consley of Milton, Ky., Barbara (husband Tim) Schermer of Milton, Ky., Beverly (husband Jeffrey) Tallent of Louisville, Ky., Debora (husband Rollin) Mitchell of Carthage; three brothers, Dennis (wife Sherrie) Lyons of Greenfield, James Allen Lyons of Madison, and Donald L. (wife Rhonda) Lyons of Madison; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 23 at Morgan-Webster-Nay Funeral Home in Madison with Bro. Buddy Perry, Bro. Wayne Mahoney and Bro. Bob Leach. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison.

Visitation will be Friday, November 22 from 5-8 p.m. and from 11:30 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nancy K. Lyons Memorial Fund in care of Heritage Community Bank, 10 South Main St., Carthage, IN 46115. Cards are also available at the funeral home.

George D. Grounds
Sept. 23, 1941 - Nov. 17, 2002

George D. Grounds, 61, of Salina, Kansas, died November 17 after an extended illness. He was born September 20, 1941 in Martinsville, a son of the late David Grounds and Geraldine Grounds Jula.

Mr. Grounds graduated from ISSCH in 1961. He was a truck driver for Hauge.

Survivors include Shirley Rodgers of Salina; two daughters, Sally and Tonya Pennington, both of Indianapolis; one stepson, John Quinette of Salina; one sister, Barbara (husband William) Dawes of Knightstown; eight grandchildren; two nieces, Patty (husband Jeremy) Howard and Candy (husband Troy) Chapman, both of Knightstown; three great-nieces, Chelise and Ashkia Howard and Shelby Chapman, all of Knightstown; three great-nephews, Jordan and Dakota Howard and Hunter Chapman, all of Knightstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Roselawn Mortuary of Salina was in charge of the private family services.
