Zola Jeannette Wright

Aug. 14, 1907 – Oct. 13, 2003

Zola Jeannette Wright, 96, of Greenfield died Sunday, October 13 at Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenfield. She was born August 14, 1907 in Dayton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Henry and Jeannette (Marshall) Schumaker.

Mrs. Wright, a resident of the Knightstown-Dunreith area was a homemaker and a well known artist and musician. She taught art classes in her home and also at New Castle High School adult night school. Mrs. Wright authored several health food and natural food cookbooks.

She is survived by five nieces, Mary Wright McKinley, Dorothy Wright Bocock, Jean Campbell Shalka, Loucille Tuterow Stohler and Jean Moreland; and two nephews, Harold Wright and Ronie Schumaker.

Two brothers preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 16 at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.

Visitation was be from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, October 15) at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ogden Methodist Church.

Georgia A. Collins

June 24, 1919 – Oct. 9, 2003

Georgia A. Collins, 84, a resident of rural Wilkinson, died at her residence Thursday, October 9. She was born June 24, 1919 in Anderson, a daughter of the late James F. and Ruby (Fort) McDaniel.

Mrs. Collins was a homemaker and a member of the Willow Branch United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Country Harmony Extension Homemakers Club of Hancock County, Nameless Creek Literary Club and the Eden Eastern Star #101.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lowell T. Collins of Wilkinson; one son, Tom (wife Judy) Collins of Wilkinson, one daughter, Susan (husband Jim) Cherry of Greenfield; six grandchildren, John and Aaron Collins, both of Wilkinson, Chris Cherry of Indianapolis, Jeff Cherry of Greenfield, Christina Daffron of Greenfield and Tracy Whitaker of Greenfield; 13 great-grandchildren and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James Donald McDaniel on July 2.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 13 at the Willow Branch United Methodist Church with Pastor Carol Wiley and Pastor Les Grimsley officiating. Burial was at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.

Visitation was held at the Condo & Son Funeral Home Sunday, October 12.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Willow Branch United Methodist Church.

Leeta Jane Glenn

Jan. 13, 1961 – Oct. 12, 2003

Leeta Jane Glenn, 52, of Knightstown, died at her residence Sunday, October 12. She was born January 13, 1951 in New Castle, a daughter of John and Mildred (Chew) Fox.

Mrs. Glenn, a lifelong resident of Knightstown, was a beautician and former employer of the G-2 Café. She was a 1969 graduate of Knightstown High School and valedictorian of her class. She attended Knightstown Friends Meeting.

She is survived by one daughter, Kelley Jane Glenn of Knightstown; two sons, David Lee Glenn of Knightstown and Dustin Ryan Glenn of Xenia, Ohio; two step-sons, Wm. Wayne Glenn of Titusville, Fla. and Dale Edward Glenn of Smithville, Tenn; two step-daughters, Faith Elaine McAllister, New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and Diane Elizabeth Denauro, Edge Water, Fla.; her father, John Fox of Knightstown; one sister, Linda (husband David) Glenn of Knightstown; two grandsons, Tylor Douglas Glenn of Knightstown and Joseph Andrew Dunlap of Xenia, Ohio; several step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was married to William “Fred” Glenn who preceded her in death in 2001. Her mother, Mildred Fox also preceded her in death in 2001.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, October 15) at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday, October 14 at the funeral home.

Eugene I. Gardner

Mar. 10, 1914 – Oct. 27, 2003

Eugene I. Gardner, 89 of Rushville, died Monday, October 27 at Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville. He was born March 10, 1914 in Rush County, a son of the late Ornie I. And Mary A. (Krammes) Gardner.

Mr. Gardner had lived in the Arlington area of Rush County all his life. He was a 1932 graduate of Manilla High School and a retired Rush County farmer. Eugene was a member of the Knightstown Friends Church and the Carthage Masonic Lodge. He was a WWII U.S. Army Air Corp. veteran. Eugene married Anna M. Clarnon on April 14, 1940 and she preceded him in death on October 20, 1996.

Survivors include one son, J.B. (wife Shelly) Gardner of Arlington; one granddaughter, Erica Gardner; one grandson, Bryce Gardner; two brothers, George Gardner of Boggstown and Fred Gardner of Shelby County; and one sister, Thelma Swain of Cumberland.

One son, Dean Gardner; a brother, Maurice Gardner; and one sister, Maxine Rinhaldi, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 30 at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville with Rev. Gene Lewis officiating. Burial will take place in Arlington East Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, October 29) at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Knightstown Friends Church or to the Parkinson’s Awareness Association.

Mary Ruth Rhodes

Mar. 19, 1911 – Oct. 26, 2003

Mary Ruth Rhodes, 92, a resident of Greenfield, died Sunday, October 26 in Morristown. She was born March 19, 1911 in Marion, a daughter of the late Arthur and Addie A. (Belt) Nelson.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Rhodes of Florida and Myron Eugene Rhodes of Arkansas; her granddaughter and caretaker, Jennifer McClarnon; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Her husband, George Rhodes and two sons, Philip and George Rhodes preceded her in death.

There will be no funeral service or calling for Mrs. Rhodes. Pasco-Stillinger Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Paul L. Childress

Aug. 20, 1937 – Oct. 26, 2003

Paul L. Childress, 66, a resident of Greenfield died Sunday October 26 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born August 20, 1937 in Nashville, Tenn., a son of the late James Alvin and Emma (Horton) Childress.

Mr. Childress was an U.S. Army veteran serving from 1963 to 1965. He retired after 33 years of service from AT&T and had also worked for six summers at Whispering Hills Golf Course in Indianapolis. He was a 1956 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. He as an avid golfer, fisherman and NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years whom he married November 18, 1966, Georgiana (Tompkins) Childress of Greenfield; three sons, Steven Boyd Childress, Attica, Timothy Paul Childress and Glenn Adam Childress, both of Indianapolis; three sisters, Virginia Denman of Indianapolis, Betty Farnsworth of Lawrence and Dorothy Cottongim of Brownsburg; six grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; one uncle and aunt, James and Ola Horton of Hendersonville, Tenn. He was preceded in death by three infant children and a brother, James W. Childress.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 29) in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Jim Jackson officiating. Burial will be in McCray Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday, October 28 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock Memorial Hospital Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Barbara J. Leduc

Sept. 12, 1932 – Oct. 21, 2003

Barbara J. Leduc, 71, a resident of New Castle, died Tuesday, October 21 at her residence.

She was born September 12, 1932 in Losantville, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Elsie (McAllister) Brown. Mrs. Leduc was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Lionel “Bill” Leduc of New Castle; two sons, Alan (wife Brenda) Leduc of New Castle and Ralph (fiancé, Teresa Howe) Leduc of New Castle; two daughters, Cynthia Leduc of Galveston and Cheryl Mikel; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; one sister, Beverly Ann Walcott of New Castle; and one brother, Robert E. Brown of New Castle.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 25 at Condo and Son Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Adamson officiating. Burial was in Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Visitation was held at the funeral home on Friday, October 24.
