Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Norman E. Brammer
May 10, 1927 – Jan. 6, 2002

Norman E. Brammer, 74, of Kansas City, Kans., died Sunday, January 6 at Providence Medical Center. Norman was born May 10, 1927, in Goff, Kans., a son of the late Earl and Lilly Brammer and had lived much of his life in the Kansas City area.

Norman was a 1945 graduate of Knightstown High School. He was the owner and founder of Brammer Custom Cabinets for 14 years and then was a maintenance engineer for the Central Park Towers for 15 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Stephens United Methodist Church and it Men’s Club, an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a member of VFW Post 1640.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Wanda D. Brammer; one son, Gary Brammer of Tonganoxie, Kans.; three daughters, Sheryl Benjamin, Kansas City, Kans., Nancy Phariss, Lawrence, Kans., and Sue LaPlante, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; one brother, John Brammer of Indianapolis; two sisters, Dorothy Smoot of Knightstown, and Helen Geren of Topeka, Kans.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held at the Porter Funeral Home in Kansas City Wednesday, January 9, with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Stephens United Methodist church.

Charles F. Disbro
Jan. 27, 1923 – Jan. 11, 2002

Charles F. Disbro, 78, of New Castle, died unexpectedly Friday, January 11 at Henry County Memorial Hospital. HE was born January 27, 1923 in Connersville, a son of the late Steve and Margaret Disbro. Mr. Disbro was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving in WW II in Europe. He retired from Chrysler Corp. Electrical Plant in Indianapolis in 1985 after 31 years. He was a member of UAW Local #371, past commander of American Legion $137, past quartermaster of VFW #1282, where he was a life member and a past member of Moose Lodge. Disbro participated in military graveside rites with the VFW and American Legion honor guard. He loved NASCAR and Cincinnati Reds baseball.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Disbro whom he married November 2, 1999; two sons, Steve (wife Barbara) Disbro, and Terry (wife Rosemary) Disbro, both of New Castle; a granddaughter, Jennifer (husband Michael) Loveless of New Castle; two stepchildren, Tony Bovard and Teresa Grider, both of New Castle; step-granddaughter, Tina Poore; step-great-granddaughter, Jazmine Livingston; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Imogene Disbro, four brothers and two sisters. Services were held Tuesday, January 15 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with burial at Green Hills Memory Gardens. Military graveside rites were conducted by Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion.

Visitation was Monday, January 14 at the funeral home.

Buford Ray Bow
Dec. 1, 1931 - Jan. 18, 2002

Buford Ray Bow, 70, of Lewisville, died Friday, January 18 at the Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle after an extended illness.

He was born in Bow, Kentucky on December 1, 1931, a son of the late Buford Travis and Pauline Shelley Bow. He had been living at the Addison House in New Castle for the past eight months, but prior to that time, had lived in Lewisville since 1945.

Bow was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and received the National Defense Service Medal. He retired from DANA Corp. at New Castle after 40 years of service where he worked as a machine repairman. He was a member of the Southside Church of Christ in New Castle. Bow was also a 25-year member of the Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and a member of the Eagles Lodge #933 of New Castle. An Avid fisherman, he enjoyed hunting and gardening.

Survivors include his son, Kevin Ray Bow of New Castle; grandson, Gary Ray (wife LeAnn) of Knightstown; granddaughter, Kayla Mae Bow of Spiceland, great-granddaughter, Jada M. Bow; 10 sisters, Reba (husband Tom) Stapp of Jasonville, Glowdean (husband, Richard) Johnson of Charlottesville, Euldean (husband John) Pierce, Louise Batson, and Helen (husband Kenneth) Miller, all of Lewisville, Nora Yergin of Naples, Fla., Elsie (husband Glen) Roettger of Cambridge City, Mildred (husband James) Stewart of Rushville; Ruth (husband, Gene) Miller of New Castle, and Linda (husband David) Bennett of Middletown; two brothers, Lawrence (wife, Kim) Bow of Lewisville, and Howard (wife Margaret) Bow of Ft. Myers, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Etta Erma Miller Bow who died June 11, 1997, and a daughter, Julia Ann on December 21, 1968.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel with Carl Wright officiating. Burial will follow at the Lewisville Cemetery with Military graveside rites preformed by American Legion Post 152.

Visitation was Tuesday, January 22 at the funeral home with an Eagles Service at 6 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Henry County Cancer Society, 1909 Walnut Ave., New Castle, IN 47362.

Kathy A. Jones
April 30, 1951 – Jan. 27, 2002

Kathy A. (Gorman) Jones, 50, of Lynn, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 27 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born April 30, 1951 in Henry County, a daughter of Lawrence and Virginia (Ayers) Gorman, who survive. She was a member of the Raysville Friends Church and was an employee of the family business, B & K Trucking in Winchester.

Survivors besides her parents include her husband of 23 years, Bennie Jones; three daughters, Angel Richmond of New Castle, Jenny Campbell of Fountain City and Benji (husband Patrick) Burchett of Somerset, Ky.; one son, Travis (wife Kathy) Jones of Lynn; nine grandchildren, Dereck, Carl, Kenzie and Elaine Richmond, Adam, Kourtney and Kodie Jones, and Kaitlyn and Noah Burchett; three brothers, Duane and Monte Gorman, both of Knightstown, and Larry Gorman of Florida; three sisters, Ginger Loveall of Knightstown, Susan Smith of Rushville, and Sandra Back of Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Akers and several grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 1 in the Peaceful Valley Church in Winchester, with burial in New Liberty Cemetery, west of Lynn.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 31 at the Thomas Funeral Home, 108 E. Sherman St., Lynn and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Marion G. Nation
March 19, 1923 – Jan. 24, 2002

Marian G. Nation, 78, of Knightstown, died Thursday, January 24 at Westminister Village North in Indianapolis. She was born March 19, 1923 in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Peter K. and Elizabeth (Goodlet) Dewar.

Mrs. Nation had been an Evening Admissions Supervisor at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis, prior to retirement. She was a Community Volunteer and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Indianapolis, American Business Women’s Association and the Jolly Workers Homemakers Club. She was formerly a member of the Fort Nightly Club of Knightstown, and a former Girl Scout and 4-H Leader for many years. She had been nominated for Henry County Mother of the Year.

On January 15, 1944, she married Richard I. Nation who preceded her in death on July 2, 1997. Survivors include two sons, Michael K. (wife Janet) Nation, St. Paul, Minn., and Richard F. (wife Deborah) Nation, Ypsilanti, Mich.; four daughters, Margaret J. Nation, Lewiston, Maine, Marilyn L. (husband Daryl) Lyons, Indianapolis, Patricia N. (husband William) Condon, Portland, Ore., Marcia L. Nation (husband Christopher Boone, Athens, Ohio; one brother, Donald Kemp Dewar, Indianapolis; two sisters, Elizabeth McClain, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Irene Dotson, Medora; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Helen Kramer, preceded her in death.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 28 at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with burial in New Lisbon Cemetery, New Lisbon.

Visitation was Sunday, January 27 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Marie S. Stunich
June 9, 1915 – Jan. 23, 2002

Marie S. Stunich, 86, of Milford, Ohio, and a former Knightstown resident, died Wednesday, January 23 at the East Galbraith Road Health Care Center in Deer Park, Ohio.

Mrs. Stunich was born June 9, 1915 in Plummers Landing, Ky., a daughter of the late Robert and Ita (Littleton) Stacy. She was a LPN for many years at the Holmes Hospital and the Longview State Hospital. Survivors include three daughters, Bonnie L. Fair, Cincinnati, Ohio, Bettie L. Scott, Loveland, Ohio, and Ita Charlene Whittington, Mesa, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and Roy Furnish of Milford, Ohio, her loving companion for many years.

Funeral services for Mrs. Stunich were held Saturday, January 26 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Rev. Chris Sitler officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was for one hour prior to the services on Saturday.

Edward Earl Bigelow, Sr.
Oct. 16, 1935 – Jan. 26, 2002

Edward Earl Bigelow, Sr., 66, of Morristown, died Saturday, January 26 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville. He was born October 16, 1935 in Indianapolis, a son of the late Clifford Bigelow and Alberta (Kindler) Bigelow who survives.

Mr. Bigelow was a 1954 graduate of Manual High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving from 1955-1958. He had been employed as an auto mechanic.

Survivors include his mother, Alberta Bigelow of Knightstown; two sons, Edward Bigelow Jr. and Brian Bigelow, both of Indianapolis; two daughters, Cynthia Ann Berry of Grove City, Ohio, and Kathy Bigelow of Indianapolis; one brother, John Bigelow, Downers Grove, Ill.; one sister, Ann Grund of Knightstown; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Bigelow will be held today (Wednesday) at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown, with Rev. Bill Worrell officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was at held Tuesday, January 29 at the funeral home.
