Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Zack Pugh, Sr.
May 14, 1927 - Oct. 27, 2002

Zack Pugh, Sr., 75, Indianapolis, died Sunday, October 27 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. He was born May 14, 1927 in Pikeville, Ky., a son of the late Tom and Bessie (Owens) Pugh. Mr. Pugh served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an assembly worker at Ford Motor Co. in Indianapolis for 30 years, retiring in June of 1989. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield and the U.A.W.

In July 1953, he married Gladys Marshall who survives. Other survivors include two sons, Jack Pugh, Jr. of Indianapolis, and Paul Pugh of Knightstown; four brothers, Robert Pugh of Knightstown, Cecil Pugh of Indianapolis, William Pugh of New Castle, and Delbert Owens of Pikeville, Ky.; two sisters, Marie (husband Ralph) Gauker of Pendleton, and Fay Conley of New Castle; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon today (Wednesday, October 30) at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Zack Pugh, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Grace Elizabeth Shepherd
October 25, 2002

Private family services were held at Park Cemetery in Greenfield for Grace Elizabeth Shepherd, stillborn daughter of Randall Wayne and Sheryl (Roland) Shepherd of Greenfield. Grace was born October 25 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.

Survivors besides her parents include a sister, Amelia N. Shepherd of Greenfield; maternal grandparents, DeWayne and Karen Roland of Greenfield; paternal grandparents, Tressie and Alice Shepherd of Carthage; one aunt, Nicole Roland of Greenfield; and two uncles, Greg Shepherd of Greenfield and Ronald Shepherd of Carthage.

Memorial contributions can be made to Faith Lutheran Church of Greenfield or Andis Women's Unit, c/o Hancock Memorial Hospital.

Pasco Memorial Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Sherman L. Brown
Aug. 23, 1923 - Sept. 1, 2002

Sherman L. Brown, 79, of Carthage, died Sunday, September 1 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. Mr. Brown was born August 23, 1923 in Warren Co., Ky., a son of the late John B. and Mary Z. (Tinsley) Brown.

Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On October 2, 1945, he married Madalyn Kline who preceded him in death on November 16, 1994. He retired as a crop applicator for the Homer Crop Service. Mr. Brown was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Carthage and the Knightstown American Legion.

Survivors include one son, Gary L. (wife Kathy) Brown of Carthage; one daughter, Marsha (husband Jerry) Griffin of Carthage; two brothers, Dillon Brown of Indianapolis and Jack H. Brown of Mechanicsburg; three sisters, Jeanette Swartz of Rushville, Rose Henderson of Carthage and Diana Robinson of Manilla; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death in addition to his wife by two brothers and a grandchild.

Services will be held at the Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel in Carthage today (Wednesday, September 4) at 10 a.m. with Rev. David Gates officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery at Knightstown where the Knightstown American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside rites.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, September 3.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Alan B. Henshaw
April 3, 1934 - Aug. 27, 2002

Alan B. Henshaw, 68, a resident of the Dunreith community, died Tuesday, August 27 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, following a brief illness.

Mr. Henshaw was born April 3, 1934 in Indianapolis, a son of the late Howard and Lucile Binford Henshaw and lived most of his life in the Dunreith area. A graduate of Spiceland High School in 1952, he served in the Army military police. Alan was a well-known farmer, a lifelong Republican and an avid sportsman, having refereed basketball games many years. He was a birthright member of the Spiceland Friends Church and attended Center Christian Church.

Alan is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Ann Taylor Henshaw, whom he married August 4, 1962 in Owensville; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Henshaw of Dunreith; and six cousins.

His parents and an infant brother preceded him in death.

Funeral were held Saturday, August 31 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral, Lewisville Chapel in Lewisville with Rev. Bill Worrell and Rev. Sid Martin officiating. Burial was in the Dunreith Cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday, August 30 and prior to the services on Saturday.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Spiceland Friends Church, Center Christian Church or to the Henry County Humane Society.

Michael Foley
May 28, 1924 – Sept. 8, 2002

Michael Foley, 78, of Knightstown, died Sunday, September 8 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born May 28, 1924 in Jamestown, Ky., a son of the late Arlus and Opal Mitchell Foley. On February 22, 1947, he married Darlene Dunbar, who survives.

Mr. Foley was a graduate of Russell Springs, Ky. High School and graduate from the Lindsey Wilson Jr. College in Columbia, Ky. He retired in 1983 from Naval Avionics in Indianapolis after 30 years of service. He also was well known as a television repairman for many years. Foley was a radio technician in the Army Air Force during WW 2 and was baptized in the Tibet River in China.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Baptist Church of Eli, Ky. And attended First Baptist Church of Knightstown, and taught Sunday school for many years at Knightstown Church of God. He was an active board member of the Knightstown Brotherhood and Sisterhood.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Foley of Knightstown; one daughter, Sharon Ann (husband George.) McCollom of New Albany; a brother, Mack (wife Christine) Foley of Russell Springs, Ky.; one sister, Euldean (husband Glynn) Ford of Reston, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Joe Foley in 1987.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, Sept. 11) at Todd Funeral Home Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with mark Tabb officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery with military rites conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and VFW. Visitation for family and friends was held at the funeral home September 10.

Memorial may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 9135 N. Meridian St., St #B4, Indianapolis, IN 46209-7109.

Grace K. Lipp
Dec. 19, 1908 – Sept. 6, 2002

Grace K. Lipp, 93, of Shirley, died Friday, September 6 at Henry Co. Memorial Hospital in New Castle. Se was born December 19, 1908 in St. Mary’s, Ohio, a daughter of the late William and Clara Wurster Kiser. On September 17, 1927, she was married to Tilden Lipp who died in 1978.

Mrs. Lipp, a homemaker, had lived in Shirley since 1935. She was a graduate of the St. Mary’s High School with the class of 1927. Grace had worked at Kiser’s Grocery Store for several years and at Ruth’s Odds & Ends for five years. She was a member of the Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church, Esther Circle, Shirley Senior Citizens and the Shirley Historical Society.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Warner of Spiceland and Lana Kaye (husband Charles) Marsh of Middletown; eight grandchildren, Mike Warner of Florida, Gilda (husband Mark) Hubbell of Lewisville, Duretta Rash of New Castle, Greg (wife Redawna) Warner of Greenfield, Christopher Harsh (wife Lesley) Matthews of New Jersey, Kent (wife Rosie) Harsh of Carthage, Carey (wife Ruby) Harsh of Middletown, Kevin Harsh of Middletown, 12 great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 10 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Estell Chapel in Shirley with Rev. Kurt Stone officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Monday, September 9.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Memorial Endowment Trust Fund, Shirley-Wilkinson Community U.M.C., P.O. Box 396, Shirley, IN 47384.

Geraldine Zimmerman
Oct. 7, 1929 - Sept. 13, 2002

Geraldine "Jeri" Zimmerman, 72, a resident of Wilkinson, died Friday, September 13 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. She was born October 7, 1929 in Byrdstown, Tenn., a daughter of Earnest "Red" and Ruby A. "Nanny" (Phillips) Spears.

Mrs. Zimmerman was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Knightstown where she formerly served as deaconess.

Survivors include her mother of Greenfield; three sons, Stephen Dale (wife Marjorie) Cronk of Midvale, Ohio, LeRoy A. (wife Patty) Cronk of Wilkinson, and Orlando "Alan (wife Anna) Zimmerman of New Philadelphia, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Steven Cronk Darrell Cronk, Sarah Cronk, Erik Cronk, Paul Zimmerman, Tyler Zimmerman and Allison Zimmerman; two sisters, Olive Jean Colip of Wilkinson, Carolyn Jane Pierce of Rogers, Arkansas; one brother, L. Dale Spears of Wilkinson; and several nieces and nephews.

Her father, Earnest (Red) Spears; husband, Orlando Al Zimmerman; and two brothers, Frank and Donald Spears preceded her in death.

Services were held Monday, September 16 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with rev. Alan McCraine officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, September 15.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association at 312 E. Main St., Greenfield, IN 46140.
