Donald Frank Kobel

July 29, 1958 - June 17, 2009

Donald Frank Kobel, 50, of Carthage, died June 17 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born July 29, 1958, in Indianapolis, a son of the late Dale and Jean Whetsel.

Mr. Kobel was a member of Abundant Life Church in New Castle. He enjoyed attending races and was an avid fan of the Indianapolis 500. He also enjoyed riding his motor bike.

Survivors include two foster sisters, Wanda Proctor of Texas and Sue Tetraits of Indianapolis; a foster brother, Brian Whetsel of Indianapolis; and several friends in the Carthage community.

Funeral services were June 22 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. James Weaver officiating. Burial followed in Carthage Cemetery. Visitation was June 22 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Donald F. Kobel Memorial Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Florence Marie Grizzell

Aug. 4, 1930 - June 20, 2009

Florence Marie Grizzell, 78, of Laurel, died June 20 at her home.

She was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Connersville, a daughter of the late Frances Sutton Reibsomer and Edna Lucille (Purcell) Reibsomer.

Mrs. Grizzell was known as a devoted Christian. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Mrs. Grizzell was known for her crocheted gifts to friends and family.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois (husband, John) Dempsey of Lewisburg, Ohio, Mildred (husband, Dale) Haler of Moscow Hills, Mo., and Ruth (husband, Bob) Ward of Greensburg; two sons, Robert Lee (wife, Dee) Grizzell of Upton, Ky., and Roy (wife, Debbie) Grizzell of Laurel; 16 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Reibsomer; a sister, Rosella Reibsomer; and three grandchildren, Dylin and Johnny Dempsey and Brandon Haler.

Funeral services were June 23 at Urban Winkler Funeral Home in Connersville with Dale Haler, Debbie Grizzell and Samantha Godsey officiating. Burial followed at Laurel North Cemetery. Visitation was June 22 at the funeral home.

Thomas E. Schaeffer

Oct. 4, 1951 - June 23, 2009

Thomas E. "Tom" Schaeffer, 57, of Knightstown, died June 23 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

He was born Oct. 4, 1951, in New Castle, a son of the late Paul Robert and Mary (Littell) Schaeffer.

Mr. Schaeffer enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family. He was an avid sports fan, particularly softball. Mr. Schaeffer enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, as well as camping and spending time with his family around the campfire. He was known for his quick wit and humor.

Survivors include his wife, Tina Schaeffer of Knightstown; five children, Tony Schaeffer of Greenfield, Mike (wife, Crystal) Schaeffer of Camby, Melissa Schaeffer of Greenfield, Allison (husband, Justin) Cart of Greenfield and Tyler (wife, Melissa) Outt of Knightstown; five grandchildren, Andrew Patrick of Greenfield, Daymin, Bailey and Prescot Outt of Knightstown and Tristan Schaeffer of Camby; four siblings, Gary Schaeffer of Knightstown, Sue (husband, Paul) Loveall of Carthage, Barb (husband, Jeff) Gustin of Knightstown and John Schaeffer of Greenfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Roger Campbell officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Burial will take place at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Audrey P. Snedegar

Apr. 29, 1927 - July 5, 2009

Audrey P. Snedegar, 82, of New Castle, died July 5 at her home.

She was born April 29, 1927, in Nitro, W.V., a daughter of the late Wilbur Moses and Nora Florence (Switzer) Beasley.

Mrs. Snedegar was a member of Center Christian Church near Mays for many years. She was a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed reading and working on jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include five children, Alan (wife, Beth) Snedegar of Vermontville, Mich., Eileen (husband, Andy) Armstrong of Rushville, Jeff (wife, Becky) Snedegar of Bloomington, Lonnie (husband, Doug) May of New Castle and Brenda (husband, Brian) De Bruhl of Shirley; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte (husband, Charles) Whaley of Leesburg, Fla., and Ruby (husband, Butch) Cassidy of Salt Lick, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Lacy Snedegar; a daughter, Karen Sparks; two brothers, Wilbur and Henry Beasley; two sisters, Juanita Williams and Judy McKenzie; and a granddaughter, Angela May.

Funeral services were July 8 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Marion Hickman officiating. Burial followed at Center Cemetery near Mays. Visitation was July 7 at the funeral home.

Becky A. Chastain

Mar. 7, 1923 - July 6, 2009

Becky A. Chastain, 86, of Mooresville, formerly of Knightstown, died July 6 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born March 7, 1923, in Pana, Ill., a daughter of the late Cecil and Drucilla (Matthews) Allen.

Mrs. Chastain graduated from Pana (Ill.) High School. She worked at Western Electric for 29 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers for America. A former Knightstown resident, Mrs. Chastain also lived in Cape Coral, Fla.

Survivors include her husband, John Chastain; a son, Gary (wife, Nancy) Sarver of Mooresville; a sister, Avalene Toney of Pana, Ill.; three grandchildren, Beth Ann Davis, Raymond Sarver and Gary Michael Sarver; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, June 10, at Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel in Mooresville. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at the funeral home.

Annabelle Powers

July 19, 1929 - July 7, 2009

Annabelle (Mattix) Powers, 79, of Charlottesville, died July 7 at her home.

She was born July 19, 1929, in Carthage, a daughter of the late Ora and Cora (Six) Mattix.

Mrs. Powers was a career computer programmer who enjoyed reading, bowling and deciphering crossword puzzles. She was known as a generous and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sisters and friend. She was a member of Park Chapel Church in Greenfield. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include a son, Steven Powers; two granddaughters, Jennifer (husband, Jeff) Boyd and Christy Powers; a great-granddaughter, Madelyn Boyd; a sister, Kathleen Bever; a brother, John Mattix; two sisters-in-law, Mary Powers and Marybelle Mattix; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl E. "Doc" Powers; a brother, Lawrence Mattix; and a sister, Helen "Juanita" Boring.

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 10, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Dave Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

William J. "Bill" Siefert

Oct. 17, 1932 - June 28, 2009

William J. "Bill" Siefert, 76, of Marion, died June 28 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

He was born Oct. 17, 1932, in Shelbyville, a son of the late Albert and Dolores (Lambert) Siefert.

Mr. Siefert retired from General Motors after 42 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a sergeant in Germany during the Korean War. Mr. Siefert was a member of Lakeview Wesleyan Church and UAW Local 977. He enjoyed boating and spending time on Dale Hollow Lake, as well as the Great Lakes. He also enjoyed water skiing, cars and motorcycles.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Siefert of Marion; two sisters, Norita Mohr of Fairland and Patricia (husband, Roy) Wasson of Newbern; a brother, Philip Siefert of Fairland; a brother-in-law, Donald (wife, Becky) Hammer of Shirley; a sister-in-law, Joann Hammer of Shirley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Albert; and a brother-in-law, Chester Hammer.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Lakeview Wesleyan Church in Marion with Rev. Duane Seitz officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park in Marion. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service in Marion.
