Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Hazel Posey

March 12, 1930 – September 24, 2011

Hazel Posey, 81, of Knightstown, died Sept. 24 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

She was born March 12, 1930, in Wetmore, Kan., the daughter of the late Estel and Hallie (Spiker) Plank.

Mrs. Posey was employed at Western Electric in Indianapolis for 14 years. She had baked cakes and worked as a caterer for many years. She was a member of Knightstown Christian Church and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, antiques and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, Rick (wife, Mary) Sipes of Muncie, Mark Posey of Knightstown, Randy (wife, Jayana) Posey of Lewisville and Brett (wife, Cindy) Posey of Spiceland; a daughter, Terri Sipes of Knightstown; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ora F. Sipes; her second husband, Frederick Eugene Posey; and two brothers, Gary and Danny Plank.

Visitation was Sept. 27 and funeral services were Sept. 28 at Hinsey-Brown in Knightstown with Richard Thayer officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.

Norman Duane Carroll

July 20, 1933 - October 3, 2011

Norman Duane Carroll, 78, of Knightstown, died Oct. 3 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

He was born July 20, 1933, in French Lick, a son of the late Porter and Olive Carroll.

Mr. Carroll retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation. He was a member of Knightstown Christian Church and was a Boy Scout master in Knightstown. Mr. Carroll served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and VFW Post 8257.

Survivors include his companion, Mary Jones of Knightstown; two sons, Norman Duane (wife, Carol) Carroll of Knightstown and Mark (wife, Karmen) Carroll of Cleveland; a daugh- ter, Julie (husband, Brian) Dellinger of New Castle; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles E. Carroll of Centerville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Edward Carroll.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Randy Gross officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 152 Flag Fund, 224 E. Main St., Knightstown.

Patricia Ann Magee

September 1, 1942 - October 2, 2011

Patricia Ann Magee, 69, of Spiceland, died Oct. 2 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born Sept. 1, 1942, in Bluefield, W.V., a daughter of the late Richard Borden and Alice (Bondurant) Borden Phelps.

Mrs. Magee graduated from Bluefield High School and earned a nursing degree from Johnson Memorial School of Nursing in Abington, Va. She lived in Spiceland since 1964 and worked at the New Castle Clinic and Henry County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Magee enjoyed doing cross stitch and was known as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She attended Friends churches in Raysville and Grant City.

Survivors include her husband, Charles M. "Charlie" Magee; three children, Amy Magee of Spiceland, Greg Magee of Indianapolis and Lisa Rains of New Castle; a granddaughter, Emily Davis of New Castle; two great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Hayden Davis; a sister, Jean (husband, Jim) Christian of Sunbury, Ohio; a brother, Bert Borden of Lewisville; niece and nephews, Katie Christian of Westerville, Ohio, Chris Christian of Sunbury, Ohio, Eric (wife, Barb) Carr of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Sandy (husband, James) York of Muncie; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Joey Borden.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with Amy Magee officiating. Burial will follow at Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Greg Magee & Camo Canine Unit, in care of the Indiana State Police Alliance, 1415 Shelby St., Indianapolis, Ind. 46203.

Roger L. Hale

May 10, 1939 – October 1, 2011

Roger L. Hale, 72, of Greenfield, died Oct. 1 at Hancock Regional Hospital.

He was born May 10, 1939, in Clinton, Wis., a son of the late Dale and Clara (Hendrickson) Hale.

Hale served with the U. S. Army Reserves and was a 1963 graduate of the University of Wisconsin. He retired from farming in 2002 and had also worked as a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker/Century 21, Wilson & Associates in Greenfield. He was past president of Indiana Pork Producers and had also taught at Michigan State University. He was past president of the Indiana State Fair where he served on the board of directors from 2007-2010. He was a member of Walnut Ridge Friends Church in Carthage.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra (Rhodes) Hale of Greenfield; a daughter, Stephanie (husband, Scott) Van Hoy of Knightstown; a son, Brad (wife, Anita) Hale of Greenfield; a granddaughter, Clara Hale; a brother, Don (wife, Kay) Hale of Beloit, Wis.; two sisters, Lois Krehoff of Beloit and Sue Hale of Janesville, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Julie Strom; and a brother, Alvin Hale.

Visitation is Oct. 5 from 3-8 p.m. and funeral services are Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastors Bruce Banister and Paul Enyart officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Hancock Regional Hospice or Walnut Ridge Friends Church.

Dessa Ellen Goodwin Morgan

November 22, 1915 – September 28, 2011

Dessa Ellen Goodwin Morgan, 95, of Markleville, died Sept. 28 at Hancock Regional Hospital.

She was born Nov. 22, 1915 in Fleming County, Ky., a daughter of the late Walter and Nancy (Jackson) Goodwin.

Mrs. Morgan retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in 1981 after 36 years of service. She was a member of Markleville North Christian Church. She was known as a person of faith, helping those in need. She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (wife, Sondra) Stanfield of Anderson and Charles (wife, Carol) Stanfield of Marion; grandsons, Jeff (wife, Bobbi) Stanfield of Bremen, Anthony Stanfield of Pendleton and Christopher Stanfield of Anderson; granddaughters, Marcia Bargo of Anderson and Deborah Andrews of Pendleton; great-grandsons Brandon Douglas of Anderson, James C. Stanfield of Bremen, Dane Stanfield of Cicero and Michael Moore of Pendleton; great-granddaughters Heather Stanfield of Colorado, Mallory Moore of Pendleton and Jessica Stanfield of Bremen; great-great-granddaughter Avery Moore of Pendleton; a brother, Clarence Goodwin of Knightstown; a sister, Goldie Jackson of Knightstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Morgan; brother, George Goodwin, Oral Goodwin and infant twin brothers; and sisters Grace Thompson and Lena Caudill.

Visitation was Oct. 2 and funeral services were Oct. 3 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Markleville North Christian Church or Hancock Regional Hospital Hospice.

Margo Sue (Walker) West

November 21, 1957 – October 8, 2011

Margo Sue West, 53, of Greenfield, died Oct. 8 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born Nov. 21, 1957, in Indianapolis, a daughter of George A. and Cleopha (Andis) Walker.

She was an honors graduate of New Palestine High School, a graduate of University of Indianapolis and the owner/operator of "Cookies to You" for 17 years. Mrs. West was an active member at Amity United Methodist Church and served on many committees and taught Sunday school for over 30 years. She was known as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter and loved spending time with her family. She was also a very active member in the community, was in the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce and donated her hair many times to Locks of Love.

Survivors include her parents; her husband, Vic West of Greenfield; two daughters, Heidi (husband, Jayson) Nunn of New Castle and Megan (husband, Steve) Kendall of Shirley; grandchildren Ashtyn, Caitlyn and Trisdyn Nunn, all of New Castle, Bobbie Kendall of Shirley, and Shelby Hoff and Kegan Hoff, both of Shirley; a sister, Stephanie (husband, Mike) Mayes of Indianapolis; sister and brother-in-law Debby and Mike Theobald of Manilla; one niece; one nephew; and great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Oct. 13 from 4-8 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield. Funeral services are Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bennett Cemetery in Ray’s Crossing, Indiana.

Pauline V. Bragg

March 21, 1919 – October 7, 2011

Pauline V. Bragg, 92, of Jolietville, died Oct. 7 at Harcourt Terrace Nursing & Rehabilitation in Indianapolis.

She was born March 21, 1919, in Honaker, Va., a daughter of the late Richard and Nettie (Harris) Whitt.

Ms. Bragg was an avid doll collector, attended Warrington Baptist Church, and enjoyed traveling and cooking.

Survivors include a sister, Dolly B. Tompkins of Kennard; a brother, Carl Henry Whitt of Sumter, S.C.; a son, Charles Knowles of Princeton, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Madie, Linda, Beulah and Ruby; and two brothers Marvin and Ellis.

Visitation is Oct. 12 from 5:30 p.m. until funeral services at 6:30 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Dan Tompkins officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
