Claude E. Corson

Elkhart - Claude Edward Corson, 80, died at 3:00 PM at his home on Sunday May 9, 2010 following an extended illness. He was born December 19, 1929 in Elkhart, Indiana to Carl W. and Charlotte (Keyser) Corson. He married Sue Main on December 29, 1963 in Leesburg, Indiana. She survives along with their daughter, Claudia Sue (Larry) Adams of Indianapolis; two grandsons, Craig and Drew Adams; two brothers, Thomas H. (Dot) Corson, Middlebury; Keith D. (Janice) Corson, Granger; and a sister, Judith K. (Larry) Lentz, Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rosalie P. Corson in 2006. A 1947 graduate of Elkhart High School, he served in the US Air Force during the Korean War after which he attended the University of Maryland and worked in the public relations and advertising fields. In 1964, he and his brothers, Tom and Keith Corson founded Coachmen Industries, Inc. in Middlebury. Claude designed, built and sold Coachmen’s earliest prototypes and participated in the Company’s early diversification of acquiring Kenco Engineering Company, Viking Boat Company, Henco Enterprises, and in starting Coachlite Supply Company. Mr. Corson left active employment with Coachmen in 1970 and founded or co-founded several other businesses including Unitron Engineering, Intertec Supply, Quest Products, and First React Medical Supplies. Claude was a past member of the Elcona Country Club, The Elks, and a current member of the American Legion Post # 210, Middlebury. He was a member of the Hillcrest United Methodist Church, Elkhart and the retired pastor Don Carpenter will officiate the funeral service. Friends may call from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm on Wednesday at the Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury, Indiana. Services will be at the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Thursday May 13, 2010. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury immediately following the service with full military rites preformed by the American Legion Post # 210, Middlebury. Memorials may be given to the Boys and Girls Club of Middlebury or Care at Home Hospice of Goshen General Hospital.

Mose M. Mast, Jr.

Mose M. Mast, Jr., 93, of 3385 South 150 West LaGrange, IN died at 9:07 PM on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at his residence. He was born May 27, 1916 in Hicksville, OH, to Mose L. Mast and Mary (Yoder) Mast. On January 26, 1939 he married Anna Mae Miller, she died January 15, 1986, he then was married on December 14, 1989 to Abbie J. (Miller) Eash, she died November 23, 1999. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a minister in the Old Order Amish Church, being ordained in 1971. Survivors include three sons, Floyd (Rita) Mast of Howe, IN, Elmer (Katie) Mast of LaGrange, IN, Mose Junior Mast of LaGrange, IN; four daughters, Katie Irene (John) Lehman of LaGrange, IN, LuElla (Willard) Miller of Topeka, IN, Mary Etta (Dan) Yoder of LaGrange, IN, LeAnna (Vernon) Slabach of Shipshewana, IN.; 45 grandchildren, 163 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, 30 step grandchildren, 40 step-great grandchildren; four step-daughters, Mary Eash of Topeka, IN, Clara Eash of Topeka, IN, Katie Ann (Joe) Mullett of Hicksville, OH, Verna (Clarence) Miller of Topeka, IN; three step-sons, Wilber (Diane) Eash of Topeka, IN, John Henry (Katie) Eash of Topeka, IN, Melvin (Charlotte) Eash of Topeka, IN; a step-daughter-in-law, Susie Eash of LaGrange, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; four great grandchildren; a step-son, Willis Eash, a step-grandson; two brothers, John and Levi Mast; five sisters, Saloma Miller, Susie Miller, Lizzie Shrock, Annie Lehman and Mary Bontrager. Visitation will be after 1 PM on Saturday and all day Sunday at the family's residence. Funeral services will be at 9:30 AM on Monday, May 10, 2010 also at the family residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Martin R. Yoder and the home ministers. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, LaGrange.

Vivian Davenport

Vivian Davenport, 74, of 57252 CR 27 Goshen, IN. died at 1:56 PM on Monday, May 3, 2010 at Elkhart General Hospital Elkhart, IN. She was born December 22, 1935 in Harriman, TN, to Carmack and Margaret (Cates) Brooks. On January 14, 1978 in she married Jack Davenport, he survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Zion Community Church Guild and of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband, Jack Davenport and a daughter, Lisa J. Johnson of Middlebury, IN; two grandchildren, Michael G. & Alyssa A. Johnson of Middlebury, IN; seven step children, a whole host of step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; three sisters, Nona Brooks of Harriman, TN, Maxine Dew of Kingston, TN, Luretha Hampton of Ariton, AL; two brothers, David Brooks of Harriman, TN, Charlie Brooks of Harriman, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 PM on Wednesday at the Zion Community Church, Millersburg. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Zion Community Church, Millersburg. Services will be conducted by Rev. Chris Howell of the church. Burial will be in Jackson Cemetery, New Paris, IN. Memorials may be given to the church.

Alpha H. Miller

Alpha H. Miller, 85, of 509 Greencroft Parkway Middlebury, IN died at 1:40 PM on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at his residence. He was born March 24, 1925 in Elkhart County, to Henry and Sarah (Hochstetler) Miller. On November 18, 1948 in LaGrange County he married Mary Alice Miller. He was a farmer and an ordained Deacon serving as a minister for 40 years, serving most of these years at the Townline Mennonite Church, where is was still a member. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Miller and five sons, Wayne (Violet) Miller of Goshen, IN., Marion (Gloria) Miller of Goshen, IN., Larry (Donna) Miller of Millersburg, IN., Glen (Tonda) Miller of Shipshewana, IN., Devon (Jil) Miller of Middlebury, IN; 15 grandchildren, two step- grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth (Jesse) Beachy of Gladys, VA, Leona (Alvin) Bontrager of Bemidji, MN, Fanny Ellen (Amzie) Yoder of Albuquerque, NM; three brothers, Jesse (Mary Alice) Miller of Anderson, SC, Thomas (Naomi) Miller of Middlebury, IN, Simon Miller of Goshen, IN. He was preceded in death by parents; a great granddaughter, Jenna Miller; and two sisters, Mary Bontrager and Martha Swartzentruber. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM on Tuesday and 2 - 8 PM on Wednesday at the Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Townline Mennonite Church, Shipshewana, IN. Services will be conducted by Rev. Calvin Borntrager, Rev. Mel Eash, and Rev. Andy Eversole. Burial will be in Townline Cemetery, Shipshewana. Memorials may be given to the World Missionary Press.

Leroy D. Miller

Leroy D. Miller, 73, of 9340 West 400 South Topeka, IN died at 8:10 PM on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at his residence, he had been in declining health since June 29, 2009 with cancer. He was born November 9, 1936 in LaGrange County, to Daniel J. and Anna (Bontrager) Miller. On October 16, 1958 in LaGrange County he married Mary Anna Bontrager, she survives. He was a woodworker and a member of Old Order Amish Church. Surviving in addition to his wife, Mary Anna Miller are five daughters, Sharon (Floyd) Lambright of Topeka, IN, Carolyn (Richard) Lambright of Topeka, IN, LaVerda Miller of Ligonier, IN., Marlene (Freeman) Slabach of Goshen, IN., Glenda (Galen) Lambright of Goshen, IN.; a son, LaWayne (Arlene) Miller of Shipshewana, IN.; 35 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren; a brother, Verlin (Nettie) Miller of Middlebury, IN; a sister, Mary Ellen (John) Hochstetler of Middlebury, IN; three step-brothers, Earl (Esther) Miller of Middlebury, IN, John (Waneta) Miller of Topeka, IN, Steven (Katherine) Miller of Goshen, IN.; five step-sisters, Wanda (Alvin) Hershberger of Middlebury, IN, Loretta (Ervin) Miller of Middlebury, IN, Erma (Wayne) Troyer of Topeka, IN, Rosemary (Pete) Yoder of Middlebury, IN, Irene (Floyd) Barkman of Goshen, IN. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Karen Ann Miller; a son-in-law, Merle Miller; parents; step-mother, Esther Miller; a sister, Loretta Miller. Visitation will be after 4 pm on Sunday and all day Monday at the family's residence. Funeral services will be at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 also at the family’s residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Sam Mast, Jr. and the home ministers. Burial will be in Honeyville Cemetery, Topeka.

Mary L. Johnson

Mary L. Johnson, 71, of 9040 West 755 North Shipshewana, IN. died at 8:14 PM on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital LaGrange, IN, after being brought into the Emergency Room. She was born September 27, 1938 in Ray, IN., to James and Edyth (Snyder) Howard. On August 28, 1982 in Plato, IN. she married Emmit Johnson. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bingo, gardening and working in her flowers beds. Surviving in addition to her husband, Emmit Johnson is a son, Tommy Schaeffer of Burr Oak, MI; three daughters, Judy Archer of Coldwater, MI, Sara Lahnum of Coldwater, MI, Tina Russo of Sterling Heights, MI; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; a sister, Marie Brooks of Guthurie, OK; five brothers, Leon Howard of White Pigeon, MI, Richard Howard of Bronson, MI, Paul Howard of Sturgis, MI, Michael Howard of Oklahoma City, OK, Gerald Graser of Mishawaka, IN. She was preceded in death by her father, James Howard; mother, Edyth VanDusen; three brothers, Melvin, Gaylord, and Robert Howard.

Landon Michael Gingerich

Landon Michael Gingerich infant son of Jamie L. Gingerich and Shalee Hall, of Middlebury, was stillborn at 8:22 AM on Friday April 30, 2010 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital. Surviving in addition to his parents are grandparents, Douglas Hall of Union, MI, Sherri Bush of North Carolina, and Lavern and Veronica Gingerich of Shipshewana. Friends and family may meet for a graveside services at 3:00 PM on Monday May 3, 2010 at the Plumb Grove Cemetery, Union MI.
