John Dempster Keillor, 85, Indianapolis

John Dempster Keillor, 85, Indianapolis, died on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Moore & Kirk Irvington Chapel in Indianapolis followed by graveside services at 2 p.m. in South Park Cemetery in Greensburg. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Monday.

Della Frances Kewley, 101, Greensburg

Della Frances Kewley, 101, Greensburg, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

born Oct. 4, 1902 in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of John I. and Della Beatrice (Curry) Driscoll. She married Joseph A. Kewley on June 21, 1929. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1973.

She moved to Greensburg from Danville, Ill. in 1968. Prior to her marriage, she was the secretary to the Vice President of the Illinois Railroad in Chicago. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Daughters of Isabella, member of the Greensburg Senior Citizens and a former BPW member in Greensburg.

She is survived by a son, Joseph M. (Roberta) Kewley of Danville, Ill; a daughter, Marita (Dr. Arnold) Ducanes of Indianapolis; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, John Clifford Driscoll and Matthew A. Driscoll and two sisters, Mary Stephens and Margaret Connors.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. Michael O’Mara officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A Rosary service will take place on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Charles D. Cook, 79, Madison, WV

Charles D. Cook, 79, Madison, WV, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003 at Boone Memorial Hospital in Madison. He is survived by a daughter Barbara Lynn (Michael) Wolfe of Greensburg. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Handley Funeral Home, Danville. Burial will follow in Family Gardens in Madison, WV. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James R. Edwards, 84, Rushville

James R. Edwards, 84, Rushville, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003. Funeral service with military rites will be at 1:30 Monday at Little Blue River Cemetery in Rush County. Burial will follow. Visitation will be two hours prior to burial at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Boys & Girls Club.

Pamela Green, 9 months, Greensburg

Pamela Green, 9 months, Greensburg, died at 8:30 p.m. at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow in Hebron Cemetery in Adams. There will be no visitation. Glenn E. George Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bobbie Lynn Purkhiser Maddux, 52, North Vernon

Bobbie Lynn Purkhiser Maddux, 52, North Vernon, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003 at her residence.

born Dec. 6, 1951 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Barbara (Klipper) and Harry Purkhiser. She married John Young on Jan. 31, 1970. He preceded her in death in 1987. She married Daryl Maddux on Sept. 14, 2001. He survives.

She was a 1969 graduate of Jennings County High School and a 1990 graduate of the IU School of Nursing. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She worked for St. Vincent Jennings Hospital. She enjoyed quilting and traveling.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her mother; two sons, Robert Douglas Young and Cody Allen Young, both of North Vernon; a stepson, Cody Maddux; three daughters, Leah Ann Long of Monon, Christina Lynn Miller and Barbara Miller, both of Versailles; a step daughter, Lindsay Griffin of Westport; three sisters, Elanor Eaken and Tracy Eder, both of North Vernon and Phyllis Hunt of Ocheana, WV; eight grandchildren and six step grandchildren.

Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her first husband; and two grandchildren, Miriah Miller and Derek Long.

Nancy “Morgan” Murray, 64, Franklin

Nancy “Morgan” Murray, 64, Franklin, died at 3 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2003 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove.

born Feb. 26, 1939 in Greensburg, she was the daughter of Theodore “Ted” Morgan and Marjorie Phillips. She married Mark Murray on Feb. 17, 1991 in Franklin and he survives.

A secretary, she worked for the State of Indiana in Indianapolis. She was a member of O.E.S. where she was past worthy matron and was a 1957 graduate of Greensburg High school and a graduate of Indiana Business College.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Mike (Susan) Robbins of Franklin, Tony Robbins of Lebanon and Steven Robbins of Indianapolis; a daughter, Laura (Alex) Stemle of Greenwood; three brothers, J.P. Morgan of Greensburg, Paul Morgan of Monticello and Stephen R. Morgan of Rocky Mount, NC; two sisters, Peggy (Mrs. Max) Dickson of Batesville and Betty (Mrs. John) Blackburn of Middletown and a grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service is at 3 p.m. Saturday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Richards officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery in Greensburg. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Johnson County Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.

Ervin C. Schorling, Jr., 70, Batesville

Ervin C. Schorling, Jr., 70, Batesville, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at The Waters of Batesville. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will follow in Adams Church Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Adams Church Cemetery.

Mary E. Scott, 85, Osgood

Mary E. Scott, 85, Osgood, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003 at Manderly Health Care Center in Osgood. Funeral service is at 1 p.m. Friday at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Burial will follow in DuPoint Cemetery in DuPoint. Visitation will be from 11-1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Osgood Christian Church.

Laverne L. Dearinger, 91, Shelbyville

Laverne L. Dearinger, 91, Shelbyville, died at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 at Heritage House Convalescent Center in Shelbyville. No services or visitation will take place. Burial will follow in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery at a later date. Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mildred M. Youart, 90, West Lafayette

Mildred M. Youart, 90, West Lafayette, died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003. The Funeral Mass was Sunday at Blessed Sacrament Church in West Lafayette. A committal service followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Sisters of St. Benedict Ferdinand. Hahn Funeral Homes in Lafayette handled arrangements.

Doris Louis Goodpaster, 90, of Martinsville

Doris Louis Goodpaster, 90, Martinsville, died at 1:10 a.m. Jan. 30, 2004 at Morgan Hospital and Medical Center in Martinsville.

born July 30, 1913, she was the daughter of Dr. Abraham Hall and Ida Mae (Creech).

Formerly of Greensburg, she worked at Cook Garment Factory in Greensburg and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greensburg. She attended Greensburg High School. She lived at the Waters Nursing Home for the past year.

She was married to Nelson Goodpaster and he precedes her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Gloria Gay, Martinsville; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Aside from her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Russell, Floyd, Robert and Eugene Hall; two sisters, Hazel Hall and Pansy Geile; her son-in-law, Robert Gay and one grandson.

Friends may call at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home from 12-1 p.m. Monday.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery in Greensburg.

Wendell R. Dougan, 74, Dale

Wendell R. Dougan, 74, Dale, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

born Aug. 14, 1929, he was the son of Glenn and Mary Dougan. He was married to Malee Medcalf Dougan for 52 years and she survives. The couple lived in Greensburg for the past four years. He was raised and lived most of his life in Dale.

Retired from Dale Post Office as Postmaster, he had worked at the post office from 1969 to 1982. Prior to that he was the Field Office Manager for Western Southern Life Insurance for 17 years. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, as well. He was one of the founding members and first president of the Dale Jaycees. While president, he was instrumental in bringing lights to the Dale baseball field and organizing the Dale Fall Festival.

He was also a member of the Dale United Methodist Church and an active member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion, Hadi Shriners and Masons.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Dane and David, and sister Joyce. His four children also survive: Susanne, Gregg, Winnie, all of Kokomo, and Jeff of Greensburg. Ten grandchildren and two great- grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be at the Fuller Funeral Home in Dale, on Wednesday, from 2-6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Decatur County EMTs, Dale Fire Department and EMTs and the Dale United Methodist Church.
