Arnelda L. Prickel, 69, Batesville

Arnelda L. Prickel, 69, Batesville, died Thursday, March 7, 2004 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.

born March 24, 1934 in Batesville, she was the daughter of Fred H. Scheele and Olivia Dietz Scheele. She married Mark Prickel on Oct. 24, 1953 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville and he survives.

A homemaker, she was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Batesville, St. Anthony’s Ladies Society, Daughters of Isabella and the Morris Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Besides her husband, she is survived by six daughters, Jane Tekulve of Madison, Brenda Meyer, Nancy Prickel, Mary Jo Reer, Diane Prickel, all of Batesville and Judy A. Kinker of Greensburg; five sons, Mike, Matt, Luke and Donnie Prickel, all of Batesville and Marvin Prickel of Homer Glen, Ill.; two sisters, Rosemary Prickel and Louella “Lou” Voegele, both of Batesville; two brothers, George and Fred S. Scheele, both of Batesville; twenty-five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Morris with Msgr. Bernard Schmitz officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.

Memorials may be made to Connie Prickel-Metz Scholarship Fund.

Martha M. “Mart” Prickel, 85

Martha M. “Mart” Prickel, 85, Batesville, died Thursday, March 7, 2004. Visitation is today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Louis Church and burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Southeastern Indiana Alzheimer’s Support Group or to The Waters of Batesville recreation fund.

Philip Eugene Peters, 71

Philip Eugene Peters, 71, Osgood, died Thursday, March 7, 2004 at his residence. He was born Feb. 16, 1933 in Milan to Philip Clifford and Dorothy Moehring Peters, both deceased. He married Betty Marie Bobb March 25, 1954 in Lawrenceburg. Memorial graveside services will be 11 a.m. March 12 at Greendale Cemetery in Osgood. Memorials may be made to the Decatur County Hospice. Neal’s Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Donald Dale Fleener, Jr., 54, St. Paul

Donald Dale Fleener, Jr., 54, St. Paul, died at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at his residence.

born May 12, 1949 in Shelbyville, he was the son of Donald Dale Fleener, Sr. and Evelyn Lucille (Hudson) Fleener. He married Annie Lee (Harris) Fleener on May 12, 1967 and she survives.

A maintenance worker for Anthes Universal in Shelbyville, he was a member of the Wesley Chapel Church in Greensburg and was a St. Paul fireman for ten years. He served as training officer and assistant chief for four years, won Fireman of the Yeah in 1991 and helped train Marietta, Waldron and St. Paul fireman. His final status was Fire Dept. Master Firefighter Instructor I and helped organized Fire School for Shelbyville Vocational School.

Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Michael (Tina Lorette) Fleener of Waldron; two daughters, Teresa (Tex) Scudder of Clarksburg and Donna (Bill) Newbold of Waldron; two brothers, Bob (Nancy) Fleener of St. Paul, Frank (Madaline) Listenberger of Boggstown; a sister, Della Mae Stone of Rontoul, Ill; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Fleener; a granddaughter, Jennifer Newbold-Elliott and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Newbold of Bowman.

Funeral service is at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Wesley Chapel Church in Greensburg with Rev. Paul Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in Paul Hill Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Glenn E. George Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel Church or Decatur County Hospice.

Henrietta Hamilton, 75, Greensburg

Henrietta Hamilton, 75, Greensburg, died at 7:05 a.m., March 3, 2004 at her residence.

born April 1, 1928, she was the daughter of Leonard Bray and Fairy Howard Bray. She married Harold W. Hamilton on Sept. 24, 1949 in Franklin County and he survives.

A nurse’s aide for 11 years at the Heritage House in Greensburg, she was a member of the Clarksburg Christian Church.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Jim and Robert “Chopper” Hamilton, both of Greensburg; a brother, Marcus Bray of Brookville; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren and six step great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary (Chuck) Hamilton; a brother, Junior Bray and three sisters, Mary Margaret Bray, Billy Jean Ricker and Pearl Bray.

Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg. Burial will follow in Kingston Cemetery in Kingston. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Decatur County.

Zula E. Hill, 90, Columbus

Zula E. Hill, 90, Columbus, died at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Silver Oaks Health Care Center at Columbus.

born Nov. 1, 1913 in Jennings County, Indiana, she was the daughter of James H. and Jeannette E. (Boicourt) Scroggins. She married Ross W. Hill on Oct. 26, 1931 in Jeffersonville and he preceded her in death on August 30, 1992.

She was born in Jennings County and moved to Sardinia in 1917 and has been a life long resident there. She was a member of the Sardinia Baptist Church and the Women's Ministries Mission Circle of the church. She was a member of the C.R.E.E.K. Club (Cummins Retired Employee & Employee Kin). She attended the Jackson Township High School.

She is survived by two sons, Don E. Hill of Columbus and Thomas R. Hill of Rockledge, Florida; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James M. Hill and a sister, Mary Brodie.

Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Robert H. Woodyard and Rev. Andy Kirchoff officiating. Burial will follow in Westport Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Sardinia Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.

John Hillman, Jr., 81, Greensburg

John Hillman, Jr., 81, Greensburg, died at 6:55 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2004 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis.

born Dec. 19, 1922 in Greensburg, he was the son of John Aloysius Hillman and Anna Marie Ricke. He married Wilma G. Tellas on Jan. 27, 1951 at St. John’s Church in Enochsburg. She survives.

A retired railroad signalman for New York Central Railroad, he was a 1941 graduate of Greensburg High School and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg, Knights of Columbus, Council 1042 in Greensburg and the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Dennis G. Hillman of Indianapolis, Larry R. Hillman of Pensacola, FL and Terrence A. Hillman of Greensburg; two daughters, Rita E. Phelps and Jane M. Hockaden, both of Greensburg; two sisters, Mary E. Sisson and Luella A. Brockman, both of Greensburg; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Ann Hillman.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg and there will be a prayer service at 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. Joseph McNally officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the donor’s choice.

Raymond F. Reed, 83, Osgood

Raymond F. Reed, 83, Osgood, died at 10 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2004 at Manderly Healthcare Center.

born Nov. 5, 1920 in Pleasant, he was the son of Frank and Minnie (Gunion) Reed. He married Nellie Conkle on Feb. 14, 1940 in Pleasant. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 1968. He married Ruth Nichols on Sept. 12, 1969 in Greensburg. She survives.

A farmer, he had retired from Bonn Aluminum at Greensburg in 1981 after 28 years of service and was a former resident of Westport. He was born and raised in Pleasant and had been a resident of Osgood for the past three years. He was a 50-year member of the Switzerland Masonic Lodge No. 122 F.&A.M.; at Vevay and a member of Tanglewood Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Sharon Riedel of Madison, Brenda Reibel of Charlottesville, Virginia and Mary Gonya of Goshen, KY; two step daughters, Joanne Catron of Greensburg and Melba Colson of Gainesville, FL; four step-sons, Patrick Glenn Williams of Chattanooga, Tenn., David Williams of Lafayette, Jack Williams of Hayden and Clarion Williams of Greensburg; four sisters, Wilma Reed of Yorktown, Freda Thorton of Madison, Marjorie Olds of Versailles and Betty Shelton of Greenwood; 37 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, a son, Danny Keith Reed and a brother, David Reed.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport and also Friday one hour prior to 11 a.m. services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Westport Baptist Church with Rev. David A. Scaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Westport Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Masonic Home at Franklin or to the Gideon Memorial Bible Program.

James E. Wright, 72, Letts

James E. Wright, 72, Letts, died at 7:54 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2004 at his residence.

born Nov. 17, 1931 in Brown County, he was the son of Joseph and Eva Graham Wright. He married Betty Sawyer Creamer on Dec. 15, 1973. She survives.

He retired from Premier Ag Co-op in Decatur County and was a veteran of the Indiana National Guard.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Joe H. Wright of Columbus, Jeffery Wright of Clifford and Allen Wright of Greensburg; a step-daughter, Connie Wright of Letts; three step-sons, Roger Creamer of Columbus and Kenneth and James Creamer of Alert; four brothers, Joseph Wright, Jr. and John S. Wright, both of Shelbyville and Jasper and Jason Wright, both of Letts; three sisters, Anna Hancher of Elizabethtown and Evelyn Martin and Deana Giles, both of Letts; 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Jesse Wright and an infant brother; and a sister, Lona May Wright.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Norman Funeral Home. The funeral is at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home, Rev. Andrew McCary officiating. Burial will be Mount Aerie Cemetery, Letts.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Decatur County.
