Christi L. Hobbs, 34, Westport

Christi L. Hobbs, 34, Westport, died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at Columbus Regional Hospital as a result of injuries sustained from an auto accident.

Born Nov. 30, 1969 in Greensburg, she was the daughter of James Lee and Brenda Mae (Vinson) Penn. She married Martie Dell Hobbs on Feb. 26, 1989 in Westport. He survives.

A lifelong resident of Decatur County, she was a member of Life Apostolic Ministries, Westport.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her father, James Lee Penn of Westport; daughters, Jessica Lee and Jackie Dell Hobbs; sisters, Lisa Smith and Michelle Penn, all of Westport; a step-sister, Wendy L. Jones of Austin, Texas; maternal grandmother, Mamie Cross of Westport; a paternal grandfather, Delmar Davis, Sr. of Westport and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Brenda Penn and a brother, James Penn, Jr.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Rockcreek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Jessica and Jackie Hobbs Trust Fund through the funeral home.

Eleanor M. Peters, 95, Greensburg

Eleanor M. Peters, 95, Greensburg, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at the IOOF Home in Greensburg.

Born Oct. 18, 1908 in Greensburg, she was the daughter of Stephen and Olivia (AmRhein) Stier. She married Alvin W. Peters on June 20, 1938 and he preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1970.

She was the former owner of the Flamingo Drive Inn in Greensburg and was also a manager of the St. Mary’s School Cafeteria. She was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Daughters of Isabella.

She is survived by a son, Charles F. (Joan) Peters of Frankfort, KY and five sisters, Loretta Zoellner of Indianapolis, Sr. Mary Catherine Stier and Sr. Anna Marie Stier, both of Oldenburg and Margaret (Clarence) Feldman of Greensburg.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Francis “Bud” Stier and Joseph Stier and sisters, Christine Eder, Matilda Stier and Helen Hannigan.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A rosary service will be held on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Decatur County Hospice or to the Talking Books Fund.

Jay Dee Mann, 74, Columbus

Jay Dee Mann, 74, Columbus, died at 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at the Hospice Center of South Central Indiana.

Born Jan. 25, 1923 in Gravel Switch, Ky., he was the son of Philmore Mann and Mamie Jones. He married Lilian DeSpain on Feb. 25, 1945 in Hope. She survives.

He worked at Bohn Aluminum in Greensburg for 18 years and owned Mann Construction for 15 years. He was a member of Petersville United Methodist Church and a former member of Hartsville Masonic, Scottish Rite, Columbus Moose and Eagles Clubs. He was also a veteran of the Army having served in World War II.

He is survived by sons, J.D. “Skip” Mann of Brown County and Gerald Mann of Parrgon and a daughter, Cynthia Frye of Hope; a brother, Hubert Mann of Madison; two sisters, Marie Sharp of Paducah, KY and Hildred Palmer of Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Orville and Earl Mann.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope.

Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Donald G. Bradley officiating.

Burial will follow in Hope Moravian Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Memorials may be made to the Petersville United Methodist Church or Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Eugene J. Young, 89, Clarksville

Eugene J. Young, 89, Clarksville (formerly of Osgood), died Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany.

He is survived by a step-son, Doug Thayer of Osgood.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 21 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood.

Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Osgood.

Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Melvin H. Selke, 87, Batesville

Melvin H. Selke, 87, Batesville, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at his residence.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville with Pastor William Powlin officiating.

Burial will follow in Rossburg Cemetery in New Point.

Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. last night at the funeral home.

Phoebe R. Williams, 77, Greensburg, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at her residence.

Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.

Internment will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Charles E. Richards, 36, Batesville, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004.

Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15 at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.

A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Debbie L. (Caudill) McFarland, 49, Shelbyville

Debbie L. (Caudill) McFarland, 49, Shelbyville, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at 10:25 p.m. in Shelbyville.

She is survived by a sister, Irene (Charles) Hobbs in Westport.

Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dayspring Community Church with Rev. Jim Stephens officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today at the church.

Murphy-Parks Funeral Service in Shelbyville is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shelby County in care of the funeral home.

Daniel W. “Bill” Copple, 62, Indianapolis

Daniel W. “Bill” Copple, 62, Indianapolis, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 in Noblesville.

In 1972, he bought an interest in Vanco R&R; Equipment Services and in 1989 he sold his interest, but continued to work for the company until his death. He served his country for two years in the Army 503rd Infantry Battalion at Ft. Bragg.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Janet Schoentrup Copple; two sons, Joseph W. (Joelle) Copple and Mark D. Copple; a sister, Lucinda Anders; and a granddaughter, Heidi Christine Copple.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardie W. and Iola Orme Copple of Greensburg.

Funeral service is at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary (71st and Keystone) in Indianapolis followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, of which he was a member. Internment Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Holy Family Shelter.
